Cuneo in Hamburg

An institution, and rightly so. It would have deserved five stars, but then why would you give Bianc (2 Michelin stars)? The service is certainly no less friendly. Although the Cuneo was very busy, they made us a table outside and accommodated our request to order a dish from an earlier menu, and it tasted as usual. So, it was an evening as expected. And that's why we'll keep eating and drinking there. Starter, main course, and dessert. Everything! Thank you.

As a Hamburg native, I was showing my city to a group of Austrians, and after a neighborhood tour, we stopped for dinner at Cuneo. We had a set menu with various appetizers (including roasted asparagus, vitello tonnato, and carpaccio) and platters with three different pasta dishes. It was sooo delicious! Everyone loved it. And the service was also amazing! I'll definitely be back for dinner soon. Thank you, dear Cuneo team!

Before our trip to Hamburg, I did some research and reserved a table based on the great reviews. Had I not done that, we would never have eaten at this restaurant, which seems unassuming from the outside. We would have definitely missed out! The food was great, the service friendly, and the atmosphere lively. If you prefer peace and quiet, Cuneo isn't the place for you. It's quite busy, but that has its own special charm. We'd love to come back next time we're in Hamburg.

A group of five girls. We reserved a table a few weeks ago and were given a very narrow table, where everyone had to pass by. Thanks to the very friendly manager, we got a cozy table in the corner. The food was high-quality and delicious. The service staff was unfortunately very arrogant. A shame.

In short: highly recommended. There have been plenty of positive reviews about the authentic ambiance and the food here, and I can only agree. Just give it a try. (Reservations recommended.) Of course, it's not the cheapest option for Italian food, but in my opinion, the value for money is good.

We sat by the street in beautiful weather. The food was okay.

We popped in spontaneously without ordering. We got a table right away, even though the restaurant was full. The service was super friendly and accommodating. We had a great meal; everything tasted amazing, and we didn't have to wait long. The Italian music was coming from an old jukebox, and the telephone was from the 60s and 70s—everything was very old-school. We highly recommend this restaurant, even if it doesn't look like it from the outside.

Besøgte stedet juni 2025. Udefra ser stedet ikke ud af meget. Når man træder ind mødtes man af et venligt personale der hurtigt viser en til det bord vi havde reserveret. Et mindre lokale hvor man sidder lidt tæt, men det er blot med til at give en mere autentisk oplevelse. Vi fik alle fire pastaretter, som var veltilberedte. Et par fik herudover fine desserter. Samtidig prisvenligt. Kan anbefales.

Amazing pasta, rustic Italian ambiance. We completely forgot we were in Hamburg. We'd love to go back.

I had pasta with shrimp that were completely shredded in oil that was slightly red. A huge disappointment. A friend also had pasta in a cream sauce that was very thick and had a strange color and was undoubtedly a ready-made sauce. None of us six friends would eat there again. The food comes from the basement next to the restrooms and can be inspected by anyone who needs to go. Behind the counter, where the drinks come from, it looked disastrous. The whole thing was a complete disaster. Best regards

We really enjoyed it. Very friendly service and a pleasant atmosphere.

Vitello tonnato and carpaccio were really good. The fish in the mixed fish platter was grilled well, nicely grilled, and a reasonable portion. Pasta with crayfish was delicious, although the crayfish was very small, which wasn't a problem. The side dish of beans with mint was unusual at first but then delicious. Espresso, tiramisu, and Sambuca were all of good to very good quality. The place was very busy, but luckily we had a reservation. The waiters and the owner were super attentive and had everything under control. We definitely recommend it, and we will go there again 👍✌️

A regular customer's recommendation proved right. Even though the restaurant was completely packed, we received our food very quickly, and our glasses never stayed empty for long. We were treated kindly from start to finish, and we finished with a complimentary limoncello. My favorite: tiramisu. Thank you for the lovely evening!

Unfortunately, only after repeated requests and in a grumpy manner did I receive a handwritten entertainment receipt that did not show any net amounts and did not provide the mandatory information about the people and the reason for the entertainment. The food is average, so Cuneo is the right place for tourists and day visitors. If you're from Hamburg, you'd better go somewhere else.

Dieses Lokal mit Tradition hat eine besondere Atmosphäre. Nach einem Theaterabend im St. Pauli Theater passt das gut. Immer wieder sind Auch Schauspieler hier zu sehen. Das Lokal ist immer voll - ohne Reservierung geht hier nichts. Allerdings ist die Küche nicht wirklich mehr gut. Preise stimmen nicht. Speisekarte relativ klein.

The food and ambience are great. Unfortunately, there was a large, very loud group of men around us. That was unbearable! Nobody did anything either. I would stay away next time. The evening was really spoiled and there is great concern that it will happen again! Too bad!!!

I can with a clear conscience recommend this small but fine restaurant to anyone who has ever wanted to take a trip back to the 80s. We were welcomed very nicely and the service left nothing to be desired. The food was just perfect. (I had the liver in butter.) This place has my recommendation. Really inconspicuous from the outside but once you're inside you feel like you're in Italy! We love coming here, super delicious authentic Italian food and delicious wine. The staff extremely friendly. The best Italian food in all of Hamburg and the surrounding area. You really notice the family atmosphere and immediately feel incredibly comfortable and well received. Absolutely clear recommendation! Tip: be sure to reserve in advance.

Vi reserverede bord her efter et tip, og var meget spændt på stedet. Vi er gået forbi restauranten i mange år, uden at opdage den. Venlig modtagelse og anvisning af bord. Må sige, at her kommer man hinanden ved. Bordene står tæt, og der er en meget fin atmosfære i de gamle lokaler fra 1905. Vi bestilte hhv. pasta og laks, og dertil en flaske hvidvin. Så kom der en hilsen fra køkkenet i form af bruschetta med tomat. Maden var super. Spaghettiretten var virkelig veltilberedt og fint anrettet og serveret. Laks med dagens grøntsager ligeså. Laksen havde måske fået et minut for meget, men det er jo en smagssag. Meget italiensk, meget velsmagende, og passende portioner. Sammen med regningen kom der en Averna til os begge. Super restaurant, med hygge, dejlig mad, flink betjening og moderate priser, som vi helt sikkert besøger igen.

We ate with a group of 30 at the oldest Italian restaurant in the neighborhood! Right off Herbertstraße is the inconspicuous entrance that led to the first floor. The space was a bit too small for the number of people, and two servers were almost too few. Overall, the food was good! Under normal business hours (no group) and with the seating arrangements, I would definitely recommend it.

I just walked in on a Friday around 9 p.m. Of course, I didn't get a seat, but I made a reservation for the next evening. What can I say? Great atmosphere, great food, great service! What more could you want?

Overall disappointing. Regular guests seem to be treated differently than "normal" guests. First we had to wait for the menu, then a long wait for the food. And no one there was really friendly. We won't be coming back. Summer 2019

It was nice, nothing more, nothing less. I can't understand the hype, but that certain something is missing. You get an honest noodle, nothing more and nothing less.

It's cozy, maybe a bit cramped, and dim inside. Many people use their cell phone flashlights to read the map. There was bruschetta from the kitchen, which I found very tasty. There was always enough bread at the table. We didn't get everything to the table at the same time, but we got it quickly enough that everything was still warm and we could enjoy everything. I found the main course (Saltimbocca) very tasty. The meat was fried longer than requested/ordered. The crème brûlée was caramelized a little too darkly in some places and also curdled a bit. The taste was deliciously sweet.

Puede ser difícil conseguir una mesa. Desde fuera parece un club de swingers. Pero no te dejes engañar. Si usted puede conseguir una reserva, la comida es genial, a buen precio y es auténtico como el infierno. He estado dos veces ahora y se ha convertido en una visita obligada cada vez que visito Hamburgo ahora. Cuando salimos en la segunda visita solo había platos vacíos. Y el proyecto de ley era bastante razonable también.

The food in one of the oldest Italian Hamburg restaurants is very tasty. The service from the family-run company was very warm and friendly. However, at peak times you definitely have to make a reservation in advance and when the shop is packed, it is cramped and loud. The best time to go there is outside of Christmas and during the week. A reservation is recommended.

So much has been written about the Cuneo that I won't even try to write an interesting review. Just try it out!

Charme, Ambiente, Historie und Bella Italia wir haben einen wunderbaren Abend verbringen können. Nettes Personal, ein gemütliches und romantisches Ambiente haben unsystematisch Abend versüßt. Der Wein war sehr lecker und in alle Richtung auswählbar. Die Karte gab Hinweise auf frische und keine fertig Produkte. The food was (as always, we've been there several times) super tasty. But we were seated at a table that was difficult to sit at (30cm clearance). The whole time I had the waitresses from the neighboring table behind me (literally), when I was clearing the neighboring table behind me I got the chair in the back. No fresh cutlery after the (fish) starter, no asking if you would like to drink something else after the aperitif. Rarely have I sat and eaten so comfortably.

War nach längerer Zeit mal wieder im Cuneo, auf der Reeperbahn. Mit einigen Kollegen. Preise sind ambitioniert (für Pasta mit Salsiccia und Tomatensoße 20 €), nur ein offener Rotwein (einfacher Moltepulciano). In Summe für kleinen Beilagen-Salat, Nudeln, 3,5 Glas Wein , eine Flasche Mineralwasser 55 € bezahlt. Wird wieder etwas dauern, bis ich zum Cuneo gehen werde.

Are you serious? Young young boy… that was incredibly bad… respect. It shows once again, the direct proximity to tourists, over 100 years of history and people actually come to eat here... crazy. A hype about nothing. What I find worst are the reviews that say the food is excellent. As is well known, taste can be debated. Where there is no taste but no argument, so please? Awkward. In Italy no one would go out to eat in Cuneo but I know what, as an Italian restaurateur (and no, I'm not from the neighborhood and therefore I'm not competition, although I would then feel extremely insulted. Sounds arrogant and unsympathetic, sorry , is that 😂) Food 6 Service 6 Ambience - Bar with a thousand tables. I would add a second level. Then you could let people sit up to the ceiling ;) Condition - 6 Price performance - 6 minus I hope the kitchen isn't as "clean" as your toilets... which, by the way, I would be ashamed of at your prices. As an Italian I feel insulted. Everything that defines Italian passion, temperament, our fire, etc.... saw nothing. Everything Zack Zack. Get out, thank you ciao. My father warned me that there was only hot air in the Cuneo and he was proven right once again. At least the temperature felt like 40 degrees, like in Italy. By the way, it's also a shame that with over 300 euros on the bill there wasn't even anything on the house. You don't go there to eat. The ambience has style. But the food is served rather blandly, unseasoned and as mass-produced goods. The calamaretti were cooked in the afternoon and warmed up again, so they are tough and lukewarm. To make a tasteless fried burrata, half ripe mini tomatoes halved, nothing else. The veal liver with sage was well cooked, but the saltimbocca was tough and the bacon was too salty and the accompanying vegetables were bland. Sorry, but that doesn't have much to do with eating well.

Girls trip to Hamburg, wanted to eat well here again. Total failure, very unfriendly welcome, tables even tighter than last time. Starter and main course came together. Staff didn't come after the meal. It's a shame, I would have liked to have had something to drink. Billed without comment. If we wanted to pay separately, we had to do the math ourselves. It's a shame we'll go somewhere else on our next trip to Hamburg.

We must have had a bad day. The food was served quite simply but at a high price, the service stopped an hour before the table reservation expired, but we were particularly informed about the time of departure. The restaurant could also use a renovation. It's a shame, but it's nice somewhere else too. But I wouldn't call this restaurant an insider tip.

Cuneo. The P stands for passion. We had made a reservation for our Hamburg trip at the city's oldest Italian restaurant, the Cuneo. Opened in 1905 and therefore only two years younger than Harley Davidson. In a word, it was impressive. Impressive if you want to see how a really average Italian lives entirely from his reputation and at the same time does nothing to permanently destroy it. A wonderful and creative path that the Cuneo takes is as simple as it is effective. You simply put more tables in the store than is physically possible. We were clever enough to rub ourselves with lube before visiting the Cuneo as if we were on a P.Diddy freak-off, so that we could both slip on and into our place with little wear. Learning from Dirk means learning to win. If you think the guest would be annoyed by the overcrowding move, you haven't seen the staff yet. With a pained smile, they comply with the annoying visitors' outrageous demands for food. Let them go to a restaurant! The “service” staff doesn’t seem to understand what this has to do with them. Going to the toilet in the basement is accompanied by the angry looks, whispered curses and touching of everyone bothered (guests and staff). Quote from the homepage: THERE IS NOT “THE BEST TABLE” IN THE CUNEO. HOW THE GUESTS FIND “THEIR PLACE” IS ALWAYS PART OF THE MAGIC OF AN EVENING. But we didn't come to sit or to use the toilet in the melee. We came to eat. The price suggested star cuisine, the setting suggested youth hostel, but what ended up on the plate made me wistfully think of summer and my unforgettable stay in this small Neapolitan state hospital in 1997. Respect to the virtuoso at the stove who took away every soul, every integrity and every taste from the ingredients and then replaced what was taken with Maggi and cheap olive oil. Yes, food poisoning is really no fun, but knowing that this food is lingering in your body feels similar to having an alien lay eggs in you. The handwritten invoice and its review and complaint effectively distract from this pain and remind you that the tax office in Italy is more of an idea, a philosophy and less of a state organ. All in all, you are doing everything wrong if you take away one of the highlights of your visit to Hamburg that the countless restaurants have in store for you and go to Cuneo instead. However, if you're looking for a bit of flavor for your trip, the Cuneo can help. What remains to be said, and that's why the second star (the first one is for the escape room feature to get to the toilet), is that the owner is really pretty. But once you pay, she treats you like you fucked her cat to death. See Cuneo and die - unfortunately not. I'll have to live with this for the rest of my life.

Food is good. There is very little choice for vegetarians. Otherwise great. The waiters could be a bit friendlier and more proactive about prices.

Seen at Wunderschön years ago and has been an integral part of every visit to Hamburg since then. Super delicious ravioli alla zia Rosa. Vitello tonnato also highly recommended!

Very quaint restaurant - really cozy. Very tight seating, very loud - a romantic meal is hardly possible like that ;-) The food is - in my opinion - good, but not very good (Both had pasta - they were of course well cooked, the sauce was also delicious - but you also have to look at it in relation to the price and I felt the sophistication was missing.) The service was very attentive - even though it was really full. So: if you want to eat good, rustic Italian food, then you can recommend Cuneo - we would come back.

We happened upon this small restaurant not far from the Reeperbahn when we were visiting Hamburg on a Friday evening as a couple. The restaurant had an attractive outdoor area which immediately invited you to linger. We sat down and were served by a nice young man without a long wait. We would describe the selection of food, drinks and wine as sufficient. There is a selection of tapas as well as pasta, meat and fish dishes. In the end we decided on the spagetti with shrimps and the tortellini in a cheese cream sauce and were very enthusiastic about the food. For me it was definitely the best spaghetti of my life. Something incredibly delicious 😋. The white wine I ordered with it was also perfect. The whole 2 meals, 1 wine, 1 coke and 1 bottle of water for €60 icl tip. If you are in Hamburg and have the opportunity to eat out here, you should definitely try it out for yourself. We'll definitely be back next year.
