Costas Greek Taverna in Hannover

We ordered delivery today, or rather, we wanted to. The order was: 1 tzatziki, 1 bifteki, and 1 baked gyro in Metaxa sauce. What arrived was 1 regular gyro with salad and tzatziki, and 2 styrofoam side boxes, one with rice and one with fries. As you can see, nothing matched the order, and everything was cold. The price for the ordered food was €44.68. The delivery service responded and fully refunded the amount as credit. Nevertheless, I expect orders placed through a delivery service to be handled just as well and reliably as when dining in. I have often found that delivered food doesn't reflect the quality of the food served in the restaurant; after all, there's no direct feedback with deliveries. Cozy restaurant with authentic Greek cuisine. Very friendly and attentive service. The food is simply delicious, everything fresh and flavorful.

Costas Greek Taverna in the List district of Hanover is a true slice of Greece right in the heart of the city. The restaurant impresses with its warm, family-run atmosphere, attentive service, and authentic Greek cuisine, ranging from classic appetizers to traditional meat and fish dishes. The fresh ingredients, generous portions, and charming terrace with its fountain are particularly noteworthy. We dined there as a family of four and ordered the moussaka, the ouzo platter, baked feta cheese, grilled peppers, and the gyros platter. Having traveled extensively and eaten at many Greek restaurants, we can confidently say that this one is among the best – both in terms of value for money and the variety of dishes. The price-performance ratio is fair (around €20–30 per person), and the quality is consistently high – it's no wonder that reservations are often necessary to secure a table. Perfect for cozy evenings, family celebrations, or simply a culinary getaway to Greece. In short: A clear recommendation for a culinary trip in Hannover-List.

We visited Costas for the first time and were very surprised by both the new service and the cozy ambiance in the conservatory. Above all, the food was impressive. Heavy but delicious :) One minor quibble: the chairs could be a bit more comfortable.

I went there for the first time this evening. I found the Cretan potato casserole very tasty. They also have a good selection of vegetarian dishes, both in terms of starters and main courses. I sat in the cozy, covered conservatory. The restaurant was busy, but George's service was still world-class 😉👌🏻 I'd like to try a few of the other dishes, so I'll definitely go back.

Unfortunately, we had such a negative experience at this restaurant because the service was exceptionally slow. After ordering an appetizer, we waited 30 minutes but nothing happened, even though more than half the restaurant was empty. The waiter came back to me and said that my order hadn't been received by the kitchen. After about an hour, we finally got our appetizers! I wanted ice cubes, but they forgot, so we couldn't finish the ouzo we ordered. After such a lackadaisical service, we didn't order anything else. When I wanted to pay, it was really quick; the bill and ice cubes arrived at the same time. This was our fourth visit to the restaurant, and it looks like our last :(

There were 6 of us and we reserved a table in advance, which was great! Very nice conservatory/terrace with great decor, as well as both indoor and outdoor dining areas! Regarding the food, however, we weren't so happy! I ordered pork fillet baked with cheese in Metaxa sauce for €19.90, which wasn't exactly cheap, but unfortunately, I wasn't full! My friend had a souvlaki plate, although cheaper, but all the dishes unfortunately only came with a very small scoop of tomato rice and very few fries; we had to reorder fries! The men had a grill plate with plenty of meat, but the gyro was very salty, and you have to order tzatziki separately! In some other restaurants, you get a dollop of tzatziki on your plate! As for cashless customers who would like to tip via debit card, that's not possible; coins or bills are better.

For over 25 years, the best Greek restaurant with a lovely atmosphere and delicious food has remained just as good despite the change of ownership. And don't forget the nice, cold Bitburger on tap. Unfortunately, they no longer serve the 0.5 liter glasses... but everything is getting more expensive... We are still very satisfied!

The best, most tender zouflaki my mom has ever had at a Greek restaurant. My sister was blown away by the super-tasty salmon in the tagliatelle. Everything was delicious, and the sweet atmosphere made me feel like I was on vacation in Greece with my family. I was also so happy with the feta with sesame in honey and the vine leaf rolls. Oh dear Costas Greek Taverna team, where do I begin... My birthday couldn't have been more beautiful – and I have you to thank for that! As soon as I entered the cozy, lovingly prepared corner that I had reserved in advance, I knew it was going to be a special evening. It started with an appetizer that couldn't have been more authentic: grilled pepperoni with plenty of garlic and saganaki, fried until golden brown, seasoned with honey and sesame – just like I know it from Greece. This was accompanied by the wonderfully fresh white wine Techni Alipias, which immediately evoked holiday feelings. The absolute highlight, however, was the meat platter – something that wasn't even on the menu, but was lovingly prepared at my request. I was truly thrilled by the flexibility and warmth. It was as if I was celebrating with friends who simply want to make anything possible. And as if that weren't enough, the meal ended with Greek yogurt with nuts and – of course – honey. A sweet ending that rounded off the story. The service? Unbeatable. With relaxed conversations, genuine attention, and a level of professionalism that simply puts you at ease. You can tell that the people here are working with heart and passion. Thank you for this thoroughly enjoyable evening – I'll be back very soon!

I have been a guest at Costa's Tavern since it opened in 1997 and have never been disappointed by the previous owners or the current operator!! The quality of the food is always at a top level and little things are changed in the food, even seasonally, no overflowing plates but always very tasty and visually very nice to look at. Unfortunately, we can no longer enjoy the delicious food on a weekly basis as we now live in the district, but we are happy to come over to eat at any opportunity Last week we were served by Georg and as always the service was above average. Many thanks to the team at Costas Taverne for the many great evenings over the last 28 years with good food and a family atmosphere. Keep it up!!!
