Among the Iranian restaurants in Cologne, I like the Zarathustra restaurant the most. The taste of the food is the closest to the real Iranian taste that I remember. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is pleasant. I recommend you give it a try!

I ordered Ada's Polo Vegan. According to the menu, this dish consists of vegan chicken, rice, lentils, fried dates, onions, bread and a yogurt dip. I received a dish consisting of vegan mince, rice, lentils, raisins, potatoes and yogurt. The attentive reader will notice that vegan chicken, dates, onions and bread are missing, but raisins, potatoes and vegan mince have been added. I asked the waiter if there was a mixup, but he said no. But he couldn't explain to me why the dish on my table was so different from the one on the menu. After a few minutes the waiter brought me two quartered dates and a lot more raisins, which did absolutely nothing to solve the problem. By the way, bread was still missing. In order not to have the food thrown away, I ate it even though I had absolutely no desire for potatoes and raisins. When another lady cleared away, she asked if everything was okay. I described the problem a second time and was put off with “I can understand”. She then invited me for baklava and tea. Nice gesture, but no one understood that it was a problem if a dish was completely different from what was on the menu. Dear chefs, you can't just change half of the dish as you like or leave out components. In the best case scenario, someone complains on Google; in the worst case scenario, a customer gets an allergic shock.

I have been to Zarathustra several times and am thrilled every time! The dishes are not only incredibly tasty, but also fresh and prepared with great attention to detail. The selection is diverse, so everyone can find something. The atmosphere is also very pleasant and the staff is always friendly and attentive. You simply feel comfortable and in good hands. I can fully recommend this restaurant and will definitely enjoy eating here again and again!

One of the first restaurants to understand that you should offer a good selection for both vegans and meat lovers. My girlfriend and I were there on Wednesday without a reservation and came to eat without a long wait. We could not confirm or understand the bad reviews. We think the restaurant is struggling when there are too many people. The price was unbeatable, the food was delicious and we were stuffed

Really delicious and friendly staff. Unfortunately, there are far too many tables and chairs in the small room, making it quite uncomfortable. There is a table right by the door and one sits with his back 10cm from the door, which is constantly opening and closing. The bottom line for me is that the price-performance ratio with this room concept is not right

My choice is always Zaratasht restaurant, it is a beautiful place and located in a good place. The food is really great and delicious and made with fresh ingredients. 😍 I love Fasanjun, Kobideh and Mirza Ghasemi very much. thank you

The food is delicious, I had a persian-kebap and different starters and a Persian drink (Doogh). Everything was so tasty! The staff is very nice and the atmosphere of the place is lovely.

Been here for the first time. The vegan choices were super diverse and I could hardly decide. We sat in the winter garden. At the beginning it was still nice and warm because of the heat lamp. Unfortunately it failed and it got pretty cold. We waited 40 minutes before we could order. Then another 40 until the food arrived, which was clearly too long. Food was good, but not very good in my opinion. Unfortunately there was no compensation for the inconvenience.

Unfortunately a very disappointing experience. Because of the many good reviews, we were really looking forward to dinner here. Unfortunately, one of the dishes we wanted to order wasn't available despite the very small menu and the food itself didn't blow us away either. Two thirds of it was just rice. The small bowl of sauce, vegetables and lamb served with it could have used a little more spices and the lamb could also have been a little more generous (there were only 5 small cubes in the bowl). Unfortunately, the seating situation was very cramped and you had to move the chair every now and then to let other guests through. The staff wasn't particularly friendly either, always seemed a bit disinterested and not particularly attentive. It was worth a try but we won't eat here again.

Here we still make sure that the customer comes first. Despite the restaurant being full and only reserved seats, we were allowed to sit down straight away. We were served immediately and in a friendly manner, and the food (vegan) was extremely good. I would 100% recommend this restaurant with authentic Persian cuisine. Even the prices are very pleasant.

During a visit to Cologne we discovered Zarathustra. We eat out a lot and always notice that meat substitute products are often completely over-seasoned. Fortunately, we had different experiences in Zarathustra. The vegan pan-fried kabab and the vegan minced skewer were very well and unobtrusively seasoned, and the rice was fried until crispy. All in all very tasty, with a great price/performance ratio. The two of us had a starter, two main courses, two drinks and two Mocha paid well under 50 EUR. The only thing that could be improved is the ambience, especially the toilets, which were very clean. By the way, the team was very friendly and accommodating. Thank you for the lovely evening.

Great food, but unfortunately very, very crowded, very slow service but expensive prices

The Zarathustra starter plate was very tasty and enough for three people. A salad of iceberg lettuce, tomato and cucumber that was served was a bit simple for my taste and could have been a little more Persian. The main course Kabab Kubideh vegan tasted good, although the broccoli tasted frozen. The sauce was a bit watery. The portion size was very reasonable. The Aperol were very well mixed.

Hello, I had dinner here with my girlfriend. I've never given a bad review, but I'd really like to honestly advise against this. First of all, we both know and love Persian cuisine, but these dishes were not comparable to other Persian restaurants. We had made a reservation beforehand, but were told very rudely that we should eat quickly because other guests were coming. The food came, we had walnut pomegranate sauce and the vegan skewers. We are both vegetarian/vegan and actually not difficult when it comes to eating. But both dishes were really not edible at all. The vegan skewers and sauce had barely any flavor, and the vegetables were three shriveled pieces that were undercooked. But the worst thing was the walnut pomegranate sauce. It was really strangely seasoned and inedible. The rice was way too much and not fried. We both felt incredibly sick in the evening and would advise against visiting this restaurant. The only positive thing was the Persian house music.

The food was delicious and the vegan selection was great. However, in some places it was a bit too simple, such as the small salad, which felt like it was only dressed with vinegar and dried herbs. It was extremely cold at our seat near the door and while we were eating the main course we had tons of small flies suddenly buzzing over us. There were already a few dead ones stuck to the wall, so it seems to be a general problem. Service was friendly but service could be more attentive. But the prices are very fair.

Nine of us waited a while for our food, but the visit was still worth it. The vegan dishes were extremely tasty and absolutely fair in price. I had the grilled eggplant, very tasty. I didn't like the lamb skewer, very muttony. It was also noticed that the kitchen was not designed for larger groups, as not everyone who had crispy rice with their dish got something.

Overall, a thoroughly successful evening! The food was really delicious and the Persian cuisine, especially with regard to the vegetarian and vegan selection, was simply authentically good! The food was brought to the table promptly after ordering. The ambience is designed to be inviting and well/practically furnished for the space available. The service was friendly all around, was able to provide information about the dishes and worked quickly. Any time!

We came for the vegan options, which were also really tasty, although sometimes very greasy. Unfortunately, I also have to wonder about the way things are treated in the restaurant. Atmosphere: Despite a reservation, four of us would be seated at a table for two, with the arms of those sitting next to us behind us, and every time we got up we had to lift chairs away to get past each other. Because of the narrow space it was also very loud, you could hardly have a conversation at the table. Service: We ordered a large appetizer platter. Halfway through the meal, the main course was slammed onto the overcrowded table for two (we had to stack dishes!!!) even though I said TWICE that we weren't ready for the main course yet and whether they could wait a little longer. That was very uncomfortable and strange for all of us. We had to pack up any leftover food at the crowded table ourselves and come to the checkout to pay. I won't come back, I felt uncomfortable.

We were here for the first time and found out about the restaurant via Instagram - so we were excited. The grape leaves starter was very tasty and well balanced, while the yoghurt dip with spinach was a bit milder for our taste and could be even more interesting with more spices. We had a similar experience with the main courses: we were missing some spices to round off the taste experience. Unfortunately my bread was baked a little too dark, which affected the taste. Overall, the approach was good, but with a few small adjustments the meal could really become a highlight. We are excited to see how the restaurant develops and would love to come back to experience the changes!

I love Persian food and this restaurant. Everything is so delicious and so beautifully prepared at the same time. If I could, I would bathe in Lubia Polo and eat everything with my hands. And Nargessi and the potato pancakes...so delicious! Everything is so so delicious!

The food was slammed onto the table without being given to the person who ordered it. Cheap but very good wine — just not served as requested. The food tastes extremely good.

They serve authentic Persian food with vegan alternatives. It was tasty, the personnel was lovely, and the prices were moderate. The only problem was flies sharing your food and beer... can't you get rid of them? Seriously?

I have to admit, the food was delicious, but we had a very unfriendly waitress, she had short hair, about 170 tall, and an accent She took our order incorrectly and was totally unfriendly, pushy and pushy In the end she asked us to tip, but we should give it to her in cash, not at the front of the cash register so that no one would see anything, she said that was normal here I would recommend the shop but if you have this type of service ask for another waitress Best regards

Had a very good meal here. I'm really excited about the vegan skewers, which came with crispy rice, some grilled vegetables and a very tasty sauce. My wife had the vegan mince in ball form, which was also very good. Before that we ordered a large salad, which I wouldn't order again because it became more and more sour over time and the olives had a very sweet taste, which wasn't my thing.

Nice restaurant, solid cuisine, nothing that we necessarily have to repeat. Some dishes or starters were very good, others less so. There are definitely special spices that are a matter of taste but are interesting. The prices are moderate, especially for the drinks, which is why it's definitely worth trying out.

We had a very dissapointing experience here. The waitress seemed distressed and rushed, a bit rude too. She messed up the order of the table next to us. We also waited 1:15hr for our food to be ready, and thats at 4pm which is an off peak hour. Kashke bademjan was average. Dough was average too. Masto khiar was fine. The bread looked and tasted like an extremely oily chapathi (which is indian, not iranian) The main food was absolutely not worth the price. … And the menu is only in german!

We ordered one soltani and one extra reis but we got two soltani. Quality of barg was good but i did not like kubideh kebab without any spices. Reis quality also was not good

One of the best restaurants in Cologne. Although I'm not vegan myself, I tried the vegan dishes that evening and they were great. The restaurant is a bit small, but the atmosphere is great and the service is very friendly. The restaurant is definitely recommended.

Super nice restaurant with a cozy atmosphere. The NeoTaste app lured us there. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. It all seems very familiar. The food is incredibly tasty and fresh. Definitely not the last visit there.

The food was great, but unfortunately the service was subpar. Even after asking twice, the drinks only came after the main course and other tables got them even though they ordered later. The waiter seemed listless and unfriendly and didn't even smile or ask if everything was OK. There were a few mice running around outside and the doors/windows were wide open, which you don't necessarily have to have in a restaurant, but there's not much you can do about it. All in all, I would come back because maybe it was just the day and there is hardly any other vegan Persian cuisine.

Persian food like in my childhood and just vegan like in Iran - a dream for everyone who, like me, grew up with Persian food or just likes it but no longer eats meat. I haven't found it in any other city yet - definitely try it if you have the chance!

Overall just a mediocre experience for us. The food was good but not a taste experience. I know other refinements and special features from other Persian/Arabian restaurants. But what bothered us the most was the fact that during our visit the area next door was already being cleaned up and we ended up being the only table left on the terrace.

I had reserved a table for 4 people. Because it was very warm outside. I called again 2 days before because someone had canceled. I was confirmed with 3 people for a table outside. When we arrived they said there was no table outside. They would have a closed company outside. Very little effort. We then went somewhere else and will avoid this restaurant in the future and share our experience. A mistake can happen to anyone, but they seemed totally uninterested to us and we should save ourselves the trip to Zaratrustra because we weren't offered any alternative.

I can only recommend Zarathustra to everyone. There are countless vegan dishes here and you won't miss anything in any way. Both the starter platter, which is perfect for sharing and trying, and the main courses were incredibly tasty and something completely different. So if you want to try something new in terms of cuisine, you've come to the right place and all at very fair prices.
