The restaurant has added a self-service section, which means the very limited staff doesn't provide service and takes a long time to get to the table with a la carte dishes. My bill was 98 euros and the self-service menu costs less than 8 euros. The food is of very low quality, in my opinion, as a frequent customer of the place. This makes me think they've gone from being a gourmet restaurant to a simple street food restaurant with dirty plates left on the table and those dirty tables uncleaned. I won't be returning as this has happened on the last 3 occasions, therefore I don't recommend it. I give this rating, but I think it's above par since it doesn't allow me to give them a negative rating, deserving a minus 5 in all areas.

I specifically chose this restaurant based on the positive reviews online, but I'm honestly unsure where those positive reviews came from. Upon arrival, the owner was indeed quite nice and friendly, but the food was truly unappealing. First, the dry-pot tea tree mushrooms were ridiculously dry, lacking any dry-pot flavor. They were tough and woody after every bite, completely unpalatable. After I complained to the owner, he promptly returned them, which was a positive gesture. Then there were the dry-pot potato chips, which truly made me question my life. The slices were paper-thin, likely machine-cut, and fried to a very dry, tough, and flavorless texture. I even suspected they had been fried multiple times. Next, let's talk about the dry-pot lotus root slices. The lotus root slices looked like frozen lotus root and were fried very hard. They had no lotus root flavor at all and were incredibly difficult to eat. It was absolutely terrible. After eating the entire place, the only decent things I thought were the dumplings and the stir-fried green beans. The overall experience was terrible, and I honestly don't understand where all the high reviews online come from. I will definitely not be returning to this restaurant.

The best Chinese restaurant in Leipzig! They serve truly traditional Chinese food, not the generic stuff you'd find everywhere. We've been eating here since it opened and are always impressed. There's always a good selection at lunch, and you'll always be full.

Authentic Chinese cuisine! As a big fan of Sichuan cuisine, I can say: You won't be disappointed here! The owners, a charming family from Sichuan, cook with heart and soul and use authentic spices from their homeland. The taste of authentic Sichuan pepper is a game-changer! The lunch buffet is one of the cheapest and best in the city. For €8.50, you get a huge selection of freshly prepared, healthy dishes. That's a fair price for a culinary journey like no other. A great family restaurant with authentic flavors. If you stop by at lunch, it's more international than an airport!! Always happy to go back!

One of the few restaurants in Germany that offers authentic Chinese cuisine. I've been coming here regularly since I found it in Leipzig. If you've been to China and experienced how they cook there, you'll find exactly that here and feel like you're back in China for a moment. It's simply delicious and doesn't adapt to the European palate. Authentic Chinese, without the fried noodles and all the fake Chinese you're usually served.

While searching for authentic Chinese cuisine, I stumbled upon Restaurant Zhang. It's somewhat unassuming from the outside, but the food is a culinary delight, far removed from "fried noodles" or "sweet and sour duck." You won't find any of that here. It offers a mix of diverse Sichuan dishes in varying degrees of spiciness. There's something for everyone. The other guests, the food, and its presentation make me think I've found what I was looking for. I'll be back.

It's amazing that a restaurant manages to offer so many different dishes at once, and each one is of such high quality. The prices are very reasonable, too. They serve truly authentic Chinese cuisine. It's perfect for those who like to experiment and aren't afraid of offal. It's best to go with a group and order several dishes, so there should be something for everyone. However, dishes often contain coriander.

The food was served quickly and the service staff was very timely. The cabbage was fried with crispy pork belly, which tasted good. The cumin spareribs were also quite flavorful. The cumin tasted salty. I would not order the shrimp wontons again because they had fat in them. Overall, the cabbage was the best.

I ordered steamed chicken feet in brown sauce today. It was my first time trying this dish, and it was fantastic. The brown sauce was extravagantly Asian-flavored with a slight kick. The steamed chicken feet were soaked with it. They felt like, mmm, I'm having a hard time eating them, like boiled chicken wings from a soup, soft and easy to suck on. Still a bit chewy...

This place is terrible. All the fried food tastes weird, old, cold, floury, and weird, and it's way too expensive. You pay €28 for the buffet, and I didn't like almost anything except the lamb. I'm sorry, but I wouldn't recommend it.

I never would have thought I'd be able to enjoy such authentic Chinese food here in Germany. They have the most exotic delicacies here, from chicken feet to tripe. Everything can be made nice and spicy upon request. In any case, everything is very, very tasty. Next time I'm in Leipzig, I can see myself sitting here again. The anticipation is growing.

With my plan to eat the classic fare you'd expect at any Chinese restaurant, I was in for a surprise... They served authentic Asian cuisine. It took some getting used to at first, but it was truly delicious! The price is relatively reasonable considering the portion sizes. I'll be back!

Wir sind ca 1 x die Woche in diesem tollen asiatischen Restaurant und essen die Karte hoch und runter . Wir haben dort noch nie etwas gegessen, was nicht total lecker war und wir gehen sehr viel und gern egal in welchem Land, essen. Es ist immer gut gefüllt bis rappelvoll und das Publikum total gemischt und sehr interessant . Vor allem gehen auch super viele Asiaten dorthin .Klar Qualität spricht sich rum. Heute hatten wir, Seetang, Gurkensalat , Brühe mit Wantangs, Wasserspinat, Rindfleisch mit Koriander und Pulpo mit Lauch auf einer heißenPlatte mit einer mega Sauce. Alles soooo lecker !Man kann, wenn man asiatisch mag, nichts falsch machen und die Preise sind der Knaller .

We go to this great Asian restaurant about once a week and eat all over the menu. We have never eaten anything there that wasn't absolutely delicious and we go there a lot and we really enjoy eating out, no matter which country we are in. It is always busy to packed and the clientele is really mixed and very interesting. Above all, a lot of Asians go there. Of course, word gets around about quality. Today we had seaweed, cucumber salad, broth with wontons, water spinach, beef with coriander and octopus with leek on a hot plate with a mega sauce. Everything was soooo delicious! If you like Asian food, you can't go wrong and the prices are amazing.

This was our first time at the hot pot buffet. They offer two different broths. Be careful, the spicy one is really spicy! The food was good. However, we found it a shame that there weren't many vegetables to choose from and many of the ingredients weren't labeled.

I was there for dinner yesterday and ordered two classics: Kung Pao chicken and Peking duck with rice. Both were delicious, with huge portions (we could have shared one). The only thing I could have done with was a bit cleaner/more modern outside, but otherwise everything was great, so I'm still giving it 5 stars!

The dishes are average, the knife skills and seasoning are very poor, it's better to cook at home, the steamed buns are OK. The boss lady's face is also very ugly, eating here is like owing money to others for several lifetimes. I would not recommend it.

After a long walk, we decided to eat here based on the many good reviews. The restaurant wasn't crowded at lunchtime on a Sunday, so the noise level was very pleasant. The staff was friendly and attentive, and our food arrived very quickly. The food was delicious, very authentic, and yet not too spicy. I highly recommend it.

Try the beef in spicy broth, wonton filled with shrimps in soup, and salted duck. It’s so delicious and you can’t go wrong with this combo. But if you like something chewy try the stir fry beef tendon, it’s so good😊

As already mentioned, the food is very authentic. We were there in a group of ten and we enjoyed it. The food came quickly and the service was friendly. It was also no problem getting power for my mobile phone. The restaurant is highly recommended for anyone who wants a quick, tasty meal. If you want to spend a nice evening in a cozy atmosphere, this is not a good choice. The tables are close together and the noise level was high. This means that it is hardly possible to have a conversation except with your immediate neighbors. A reservation is definitely recommended.

I went for hot pot with a friend today. We went to the hot pot for the first time. We had a lovely evening and it was well worth the experience. However, in our opinion there was not enough choice, if you don't like fish or seafood you will have a hard time finding something. A little more meat selection would be nice. We were afraid to try some things because some of the labels were missing. We didn't use the starter and dessert buffet except for one small thing. However, that was lavish. The service and price were good. Drinks are mostly included. Overall okay but probably a one-off visit.

The Zhang offers very good & authentic Chinese food in a campsite location. Overall you have a very large selection of dishes, even if a lot of it is very meat-heavy, the menu scores points with many vegan dishes! Since there were five of us, we ordered several dishes and shared them, which works best for the type of dishes & food! The service is quite distant, but the younger waiters/waitresses are all the friendlier. We had the cucumber salad with garlic, fried peanuts, tofu with vegetables, the dumplings, chili chicken, braised eggplant and the fried lotus roots. Everything was very tasty, well seasoned and spicy, but the last two in particular are a very big recommendation. There was also a huge portion of rice, which even the five of us couldn't manage. Overall, Zhang is a great recommendation for anyone who is looking for a change away from the standard Asian restaurants in Leipzig and wants to eat tasty, authentic and cheap food. If you are alone, lunch is recommended. My first, but definitely not my last time!

It's always pretty crowded and serves authentic Chinese food (Sichuan cuisine). I've been here several times and tried a few things, everything was very tasty. The menu is extensive (selection also suitable for vegetarians), and the dishes are often quite spicy. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Ordering and picking up is also easy. Friday to Sunday you should definitely reserve a table. (Addendum March 2024/February 2025: It is still very tasty and highly recommended!)

Very good restaurant. The food is excellent and something different (not what Germans expect in a German Chinese restaurant). We were here twice in a larger group and without exception everything tasted wonderful. There are different levels of spiciness and the children also enjoyed it very much. The menu also has things to offer that you can't get anywhere else. The ambience could perhaps be improved a bit, but otherwise everything is wonderful and we would love to come back! It's busy on weekends and it's probably better to make a reservation.

I've been here so many times in the last few months, it's always very tasty and the service is friendly and, above all, very fast. The food was always there within 10 minutes at the latest. In the evening you should definitely have a reservation from 6 p.m., even during the week the restaurant always fills up very quickly. I particularly recommend the fried pork intestine. I only knew it from Korea and you can't really get it anywhere else here.

It was my first time to dine in this restaurant. The waiter was from Shanghai and was very friendly when I heard the Shanghai dialect. But the food is Sichuan food, which is a bit oily and salty. I ordered the spicy hot pot, the bottom fire was very strong, and the fungus inside fried in the oil. The oil flew to my glasses, forehead, and corners of my mouth. It hurt. I asked the clerk (that is, the boss) to turn off the heat. He said, "Wait a minute." Lips. The burn was so painful that two Shanghainese guests sitting next to me immediately asked if they wanted some cooling oil, and immediately applied the cooling oil that I had brought with me. The female clerk came over and interrupted our conversation and said just don't touch it. The boss didn't ask a question, and didn't even ask if he wanted scald medicine (scalding medicine is usually provided in German restaurant kitchens) and just ignored him. Restaurants without service spirit should pay attention to their own safety. During the meal, no waiter cared about whether to turn off the fire at the bottom of the pot. I am very lucky today. There is a lovely Shanghainese guest sitting next to me. This is the most gratifying thing today. Zum ersten Mal habe ich in diesem Restaurant gegessen. Ich komme aus Shanghai, and es war sehr angenehm, Shanghainesisch zu hören. , bei dem die Flamme sehr stark war. auszuschalten, aberer sagte nur: „Einen Moment." Meine Lippen brannten vor Schmerz. Die weibliche Bedienung kam und unterbrach unser Gespräch, indem sie sagte, ich solle die Stelle einfach nicht anfassen. Der Chef fragte mich nicht einmal, ob ich eine Salbe gegen Verbrennungen benötige (in deutschen Restaurantküchen ist eine Brandsalbe normalerweise Standard). Er Ignorierte die Situation einfach völlig. In einem Restaurant ohne Servicebewusstsein muss man selbst auf seine Sicherheit achten. Zum Glück hatte ich heute das Glück, so nette Gäste aus Shanghai am Nachbartisch zu haben – das war das einzig erfreuliche Erlebnis an diesem Tag.

You might think that's how they eat in China. The Chinese restaurant Zhang clearly stands out from the monotony of Chinese restaurants in Germany. Original Chinese cuisine is offered here, especially from the Sichuan province, and it is actually much more varied than what we know here. So, give it a try, even if the dishes on the menu sound a bit unusual. Pork belly, carp in many variations, steamed chicken feet, fried pork intestine, etc. It's worth it because everything I've eaten so far tastes great.

This place is incredible!! Proper sichuan flavors in the middle of Leipzig. We were skeptical when coming here as Leipzig is not such an international city and Germany generally doesn’t have such good Chinese restaurants, but this place is exceptional. The food was delicious, high quality, and plentiful - for only 25€ per person, we received more amazing food than we could eat! The shrimp dumplings and lamb hotpot were our favorites, but the Peking duck is also really good. My new favorite restaurant in town, I can’t wait to go here again.

I used to come here often and it was pretty good. Now that I'm working, I came here again to order lunch. The aunt in the store kept urging me to order, as if she was in a hurry. Asked a question with arrogance. Treat Chinese people as human beings. If you don’t know how to do business, don’t be a facade. Who taught you etiquette, justice and integrity? Reputation is earned by oneself and lost by oneself.

We had the buffet, some things were tasty, some were interesting all depends on your taste, maybe ordering from the menu would've been better. A lot of people if you reserve from 5pm-7pm. Customer service was good. The restaurant seemed a little bigger and cozier online.

We went there to eat HotPot. There is a buffet there every Sunday. Very very tasty. Really great price-performance ratio. The staff nice. Be sure to make a reservation as it is very busy. Unfortunately there is no good air circulation, so the walls quickly tarnish and everything becomes damp and smells like food. This should be fixed somehow.

The food is really very tasty. Authentic Chinese food - beef in broth (spicy) is highly recommended. The service is also good, sometimes there is a little difficulty in communication, which leads to incorrect orders here and there. The restaurant itself, you are not allowed to look into the corners or especially into the fans, there is a lot of room for improvement when it comes to cleanliness. But as I said, because of the food, which is great, this can be neglected and you can concentrate on enjoyment.

The food is very tasty, Chinese style, comfortable seating, but you have to make a reservation on weekends. Very suitable for those who like dishes with strong Chinese flavors. You should go there with a lot of people to enjoy different dishes together.

Our favourite Restaurant in Leipzig. Everytime we don't know what to eat we'll go over there. It can get very busy on the weekend so make sure to reserve or come early. The chicken cripsy is a must!

I came here with my friend, he’s from Shanghai but living in Leipzig. Both of us agreed that this is the best restaurant. The food is so delicious. The waitress was very friendly, even we did not make the booking first. It’s very busy Saturday evening but they happily offered us a table to sit. Highly recommended!!!!

Ordering: The price is a bit high but they are all authentic and delicious. My favorite is the tomato beef. Self-service hot pot: Don’t eat it. The soup is bland and tasteless. The fish tastes very bad after being frozen for who knows how long. Lunch set: The disadvantage is that the price has increased and the salted duck is always just bones. But it is so close to the university and for 8.5€ you can eat braised beef, boiled fish, pork belly, braised radish, braised radish, salted duck, braised pig's trotters... The food was extremely good. A friend suggested going to this restaurant and the recommendation was really good! The braised eggplant is incredibly delicious. But I should have been careful because I don't like coriander (it was my mistake to order a starter with coriander). But everything was extremely good!

It is an exceptional culinary experience, like being teleported to China. I have always found nice people and I have felt well received and cared for. Plus I love this restaurant on weekdays at noon! You can make a combination plate by choosing five from all the dishes they offer and add all the rice you want.

A positive surprise, There are Chinese people working in the restaurant (not Vietnamese like in every Asian restaurant) Great atmosphere, great food. The portions are so big that you can't eat it alone. We'd love to come back again :)
