China Restaurant San Bao in Tübingen

I arrived half an hour before closing time and the employee saw me come in, didn't say a word to me, had AirPods in and gestured with his arms instead of telling me it was too late.

I had a really disappointing experience at this restaurant. The staff were extremely rude and unprofessional they didn’t even look me in the eyes when I tried to speak to them. Every time I wanted to ask something, they completely ignored me. When it came time to pay, they didn’t even tell me the total, just asked “cash or card” with no explanation. The food might be okay, but the service ruined the entire visit. Definitely wouldn’t recommend coming here if you expect to be treated with basic resp

Good place for chinese food with a view of the bridge and river. I had a good meal ( portion sizes were large ) and spent nice time here. The lady was very nice in recommending Chicken dishes and service was prompt.

My friend had ordered "flambéed," but when the manager said they would flambé it with alcohol, we didn't react quickly enough to decline. Neither of us drink. Because my friend was upset that you could still taste the alcohol, I asked if the dish could be heated again briefly so that the alcohol would evaporate. The manager, who had actually warned us about the alcohol in good time and specifically asked(!), insisted on serving her a completely new dish and refused to let me pay for it. A huge compliment and thank you very much. Even when my friend objected and wanted to keep the flambéed dish (to make no one uncomfortable), the manager saw through it and, laughing, stood her ground in a friendly, motherly manner. A truly wonderful experience!

I ordered the food to my home. Crispy duck gong bao with vegetables. Since it didn't specify what kind of vegetables it would be, I left a note saying "no paprika." It even said so on the delivery note. What was delivered was soggy duck with an excessive amount of paprika and absolutely tasteless rice. A real shame. On the plus side: it was delivered reliably, and the fortune cookie was delicious.

Very tasty food and really fresh, the service is amazing!

Located on the first floor. It was very busy at lunchtime because hordes of students were getting takeaways in the middle of the restaurant. Seated customers, however, aren't offered a lunch menu; they're charged full price despite the hustle and bustle. Overall, it was uncomfortable. The service wasn't at all attentive or friendly. When I went to the restroom and returned, my table had been cleared (glass still not empty, bill still unpaid) and given to a new customer, and I was presented with the bill. No thanks, even the view of the Neckar River doesn't make up for that.

The food tastes really good in the restaurant but the service is a complete disaster, this has happened more than once, the waitress and the boy charged me incorrectly and instead of giving me two boxes of rice she gave me noodles to pack, when I gave it back the rice was totally mushy and salty, I will never eat there again.

Last night wasn't our first visit to this restaurant. I have to say, unfortunately, that I, or rather we, were very disappointed with the food. We didn't enjoy it at all. It wasn't seasoned well, and the duck was very tough. It's a shame we won't be coming back.

Not so good food, soup was really nice but duck, beef and chicken dishes were poor.. also we had some roten pineapple in our food. And rice was from yesterday 🤣

Yes, with some reservations. The staff wasn't particularly friendly; we weren't offered an alternative when we accidentally ordered the wrong rice. Furthermore, our plates were cleared away while we were still chewing. The food was very good, though.

The service was unfortunately unacceptable. Food was served that hadn't been ordered, and despite assurances that the correct item would be served, this never happened. This behavior gives the impression that customer requests aren't taken seriously. The price is unjustified for this service; I would strongly recommend choosing another restaurant.

The food was swapped. I wanted chicken with rice and peanut sauce, but was served with curry. As compensation, an extra peanut sauce was brought to the table (the food was full of curry sauce). Likewise, my companion's chicken was not crispy breaded but served without breading. He was then told he could get it separately (it was forgotten). The staff were generally rather unfriendly. Won't be back here. Too bad.

Still, it was okay for the price. ⭐️ Service: 2 stars The service was unfortunately disappointing. The waitresses seemed very lackluster and unfriendly. You felt like you weren't really welcome. It's a shame, because that significantly spoils the overall impression. ⭐️ Ambience: 3 stars The restaurant is simply decorated. It's clean, but not particularly cozy. Okay for a quick meal, but less suitable for a relaxed evening. Conclusion: Solid food, but the unfriendly service makes it hard to return. If they improve this, the visit could be more pleasant.

Noodle box to go very strong and fair price

The food and service were very good, the portions were large, and the waitresses were very friendly and child-friendly. We were there with four people, a stroller, and a toddler, and everything was great.

The location is perfect, the food is quite good, a bottle of water costs 7 euros which seems too much considering that in Germany the water is drinkable. They could have brought us a carafe on request like in almost all restaurants. The waiter was not very welcoming, the menu in general was quite expensive... they are just in an enviable location.

When I read the reviews with 3-4 or even 5 stars, I wonder if the reviews are paid for, or written by family, or if I wonder what people have gotten used to that makes them find such a mixture, such stuff, delicious. First and foremost: The restaurant stinks of ancient burnt oil from the stairwell... I went home after dinner and had to shower immediately because the smell was unbearable on my clothes and hair... the service is simply awful (they're nice, but unfortunately the service remains awful... besides, they don't understand German at all)... the mise en place is awful, the drinks we ordered were indefinable... there were three of us, and one course and two drinks were simply forgotten... the filled ravioli were ordered with meat, but they were served with fish (so as not to be "problematic," we ate them anyway: they were absolutely not tasty and couldn't be called a course). The "pyrotechnic" duck "São Bao Duck" tasted 100% of alcohol, making it impossible to continue eating (that's supposed to be their specialty)... all this in an empty restaurant and for a single dinner... how I miss Bellevue Restaurant... you won't believe it. Please close!

The manager/server was a bit rude at times. Also the food was salty like him. The view from the restaurant is amazing though.

Central location with a nice view of the river. The interior is simple, as you'd expect. Service was uneventful. We had fried chicken. It was definitely fried the day before. It wasn't crispy anymore. It had a slight taste of old oil. Then there was a dish with vegetables that were overcooked and had probably been kept warm in water for a while.

Delicious, fair prices, great views of the Neckar and very attractively presented food!

Unfortunately, the service from the young man wasn't particularly good. He was quite rude in his speech and placed the food quite roughly on the table, even though the restaurant wasn't even full at the time. He also didn't seem particularly attentive, which was evident from the fact that the order was incorrect. The food itself, unfortunately, wasn't particularly convincing either; it was quite tasteless and undercooked. So, there's a lot of food per portion (okay, yes).

Since I was craving a nice location, we went to San Bao. In terms of ambience and location on the Neckar Bridge, the view was impressive as usual. I have visited the establishment several times and my companions have always been as impressed as I am. Despite arriving late, an hour before closing time, we received an extremely friendly welcome and were invited to the table. Drinks were served quickly, and the food reached us almost as quickly (the selection of soups can be recommended here). Since the portion was generous, it was packed up for us after a munching fight. Worth mentioning here was the seaweed salad, which was completely eaten. We would like to thank you for great service, friendly staff and a beautiful location in a relaxed atmosphere. Gladly again and see you soon!

I would prefer to give 0 stars. Ate there several times and everything was always delicious. Picked up a to go box for the first time today, the old lady was absolutely unfriendly. Is on his cell phone while I order and only half listens, had to repeat my order several times. Then it says SAUCES OF YOUR CHOICE, I say peanut sauce please, she says no, it's not available, it's too expensive. But I still pay the price for it even if I have to pay on top of it? Okay, so it was taken completely without sauce. Fried rice was burnt and felt like I was chewing plastic. So you're only worth something as a customer there if you pay +€50. Never again. Everything is absolutely unfriendly and tastes catastrophic.

My family had wonderful dining experience here in this restaurant. All the dishes we had were excellent. The Staff was very hospitable. We sat in their back dining area which treated us to three views of the Neckar River.

Food for 4, service not bad, of all the dishes, only the duck was a little dry!

never order the cumin lamb cuz half of it are cabbage layes in a small pot and they charged it for24 euros which is ridiculus.

It is centrally located near the Neckar Bridge and there are two rooms where you can find space. If you're lucky, you'll get a seat right by the window. The condition doesn't speak German very well, but otherwise it's okay. Rice comes separately in a bowl. The food is really very good for the price. The chicken dish cost €16.90 and so did the duck.

Very stable store. For some reason I've never been there before, but it was worth it. Not too busy, staff very nice, my food was delicious.

Just picked up something to take away as I was in town for 1 night. The service was really friendly and I even got a glass of mineral water while I was waiting for my food. That's what I call service. Food was also great.

Unfortunately, the food we had was so bad... I would rather recommend a few restaurants in Stuttgart that are really authentic. Unfortunately there was nothing there in terms of sharpness. That was a bit disappointing. It seems, at least judging by what we had, to be a very German restaurant. Very service was also okay. There are significantly better and more attentive ones but there was nothing negative. The location was of course perfect with a great view!

Average food and service from younger female staffs were not so good, we need to ask for plates to eat and serving spoons since they were not given. Food were salty, will not return.

Das schnellste Weizen und die schnellste Ente Tübingens. Kaum bestellt schon auf dem Tisch, kleiner Tipp - vor dem bestellen aufs Klo gehen😉😉. Die Qualität ist sehr gut, das Essen ist wirklich schmackhaft. Die Bedienung ist aufmerksam und auch freundlich.

We were served in a friendly manner by the staff. The Peking soup was good by default and the portions were generous. A little too much fat or oil on the noodles for our taste.

One line review: If you can, don’t go.. Wonton soup - just boil frozen dumplings What kind of stir-fried beef - it's beef stir-fried in soy sauce, but it just has a yellowish taste that I would have had with the owner if it were really Korean. Koreans might hate me for writing like this, but If you're Korean and don't have anything to eat, go to the supermarket and buy ramen. The Asian box next to Solkka is better.

Food below average, sweet and sour sauce watery and tastes like tomato sauce, meat noodle ratio for fried noodles doesn't fit at all (30% noodles, 70% meat)… Spring rolls are quite ok. The view of the Neckar Bridge is nice :) Service nice and friendly :)

I was very disappointed with this experience. I ordered the dish S1 from the restaurant's "Specialties" section. The poultry was nice and crispy. Unfortunately, the bamboo shoots were of poor quality and had an unpleasant taste. The hot sauce wasn't spicy at all; I would describe it more as a kind of broth with starch to thicken it - really not exciting. I had to get hot sauce from other tables to make the dish even edible. Actually, I didn't want to tell the gentleman it wasn't good and didn't want to leave a Google review. What would that change? I won't come back anyway. But then the waiter did something that finally convinced me to write a review. I remained silent while paying (since the food wasn't good, I didn't mention tipping - I know that tipping is expected for a good experience, but it shouldn't be taken advantage of when it's not appropriate). The gentleman then pretended to tap his cash register for a minute, apparently giving me time to think about it, and then independently rounded up the bill without saying anything. I only noticed this when I received the receipt. In short, a tourist trap restaurant on the banks of the Neckar that charges overpriced prices for mediocre quality.

The food wasn't very tasty. It was prepared without love, and instead of local spices you only get flavor enhancers. Despite the nice service, unfortunately there is no need to repeat.

A beautiful view, a diverse menu and polite staff. However, the quality of our food was a bit disappointing. The ginger tea consisted of hot water and fresh ginger. Noodle with fried beef had a lot of fat, and the beef was still raw (of course this is a matter of taste, but I don't like it when the meat is not fully cooked). Even the noodle didn't taste freshly cooked. However, the fried beef with vegetables and peanut sauce was better, but even the peanut sauce couldn't help me enjoy the beef.

I typically steer clear of restaurants with extensive menus, as past experiences have taught me that such variety often comes at the expense of freshness, skill, or focus—attempting to cater to everyone usually leads to disappointment. Unfortunately, this restaurant was no exception. Although the staff was friendly, the three dishes we ordered—a vegetable dish and two meat-based options featuring lamb and beef—were underwhelming. The vegetable dish was decent, but the meat dishes had an unpleasant, cheap smell, suggesting poor quality or mishandling of the ingredients. To be clear, the 2 out of 5 points is solely for the staff's friendliness. As for the food, you're better off finding another place if you're looking for quality Chinese cuisine. Why would anyone go to a restaurant just to meet friendly staff?

Very good alternative in Tübingen. River view and friendly prices. You can also buy a takeaway box, rice, vegetables and chicken, 3 eur. Unfortunately, they have made the quality of the takeaway box much worse. However, eating there is pleasant and the menu has offers for all budgets. They prepare everything very well, with the exception of the box. The seaweed salad is spectacular.

Food was good. Place has great views. However the service was terrible. One of the servers, a woman was extremely rude and not very accommodating. Would have loved to visit the place again, but won't probably due to the bad behavior of the staff.

We visited this restaurant during a visit. The entrance was nondescript; After we went up the stairs, we had to pause for a moment because the view of the bridge with the colorful flowers was very pretty to look at. The food was delicious and typically Asian. The quality was very good. In fact we would come again.

The sweet and sour sauce is too runny and the noodle could have been cooked longer and you can drink the sauce like water, the taste is just bad I don't know it that way, but it's a shame that you no longer value your customers

A good view directly overlooking the river, as well as good food for the price. I always go there to get my box to take away, highly recommended.

I recently visited this restaurant and was overall pleased. The dishes were truly delicious. I took some prawns and soup (be careful soup is really hot). What else I can say is that the dishes are REALLY big. The atmosphere of the establishment is also not bad, although there was no music, which, although it affected the general atmosphere, did not significantly affect it. Unfortunately, there was a slight kitchen smell in the room, which was not too strong, but still noticeable. Polite waiters made my visit more comfortable. Prises are decent but some dishes can be quite expensive.

Top location in Tübingen. Great view. However, the service and ambience inside is borderline. There is room for improvement here. Not very friendly. Not proactive, just responding to calls. Unfortunately, the piles of bulky waste between the toilet and the restaurant that are common in Chinese restaurants are not that nice.

Price performance isn't much too expensive dishes 16 euros for such small portions the food doesn't taste like anything the sauces were mixed with so much water that it doesn't taste like anything it's a real shame the vegetables aren't seasoned and taste bland Not recommended, I'm very disappointed

Die Lage ist sehr zentral, die Bedienung in Ordnung. Riesiges Menü, großer Auswahl. Die Portionen sind normal und die Preise dafür ein bisschen zu hoch finde ich. Das Essen an sich war einfach ok. Vielleicht das beste asiatische in Tübingen aber wirklich kein Highlight.

Dumpling, pecking soup, and Frühlingsrolle are good. Fried rice items are good, too, but all the soya sauce based items are too salty. Quantity is more than enough. However, the taste is not so great. The view from the restaurant is great overviewing the neckerbrüke.

The old Chinese waitress is very rude. I was eating there alone, she pressured me to switch to another table with other people twice. It was an unpleasant experience. I also saw that foreigners can change to other table without informing them, while Asian people couldn’t….. They told you couldn’t move unless they permitted. The food had an odd fragrance and the meat is very dry. They attempted to cover with soy sauce which I understood but did not work…

Rice box (fried rice) with chicken is not recommended at all. The chicken looked weird and had a weird texture. The rice was super salty and barely edible. The whole thing smelled funny...

A first class Chinese restaurant with very friendly staff!

Not recommended. After 2 minutes the food was already on the table. Impossible. Probably warmed up the leftovers. Greasy, frozen vegetables, duck was disappointing. A look at the Neckar doesn't save the situation either. Sitting on the bus with my stomach bubbling and hoping not to throw up.

Update 12.06.2024. Ordered C78. Gebraten Schweinefleisch mit süs-sauer Soße. Taste good, the sauce wasn't generic or too much and pairs well with the crispy pork. The white rice was disappointing though (3rd picture). Looked yellowish and very dry, tasted dry and hard too like day old rice. Ordered the gebraten Reisnudeln nach Kanton Art. 3.5 stars Taste a bit bland and a bit too greasy. Lots of vegetables and mushrooms though. Service was ok.

Highly recommended! I had lunch there with a friend and we were greeted very friendly and were able to choose a place. The prices are really reasonable and you really get a huge portion! Unfortunately, neither of us managed to finish our meal. But it was really delicious and well seasoned. All the waiters were friendly and, above all, quick. If you get a seat by the window, you'll also have a great view! Highly recommended!

Noodle with vegetables. 4€.... It was more like noodles floating in soy sauce... No vegetables! Then just make noodles with soy sauce for €3 or something...

The original Chinese dishes are very tasty. The staff is nice and the location is perfect too.
