Probably the best steakhouse the city of Essen has to offer! Beautifully furnished ambience, with a breathtaking terrace with a view of Lake Baldeney! Parking right in front of the door, although sometimes difficult in good weather or at peak times. The service was very polite and attentive, the drinks came quickly and people kept asking if everything was OK or if they had any requests, great! The food is great, the steaks are to the point, side dishes such as spinach, broccoli and fries are also highly recommended, the portions are perfectly prepared and balanced in terms of quantity. The prices are in the higher segment, but it must be noted that quality has its price and you also pay for the service as well as the ambience and the view. For those on a tighter budget, the lunch menu is highly recommended, as the dishes are almost too cheap. During the payment process, an invoice receipt is automatically created which you can automatically use as a hospitality receipt, which is also a plus. The only point of criticism: We changed the side dishes for our dishes; instead of fried potatoes or a baked potato, we wanted the NY Cheese Fries with truffle mayo, for example, which we were then charged extra for, which I had never heard of before. I just know that it's possible for the same price.

So the view is great and the restaurant is very nicely decorated. The burger I ate was okay. The service is not friendly. When I come as a customer, I want to be treated kindly, regardless of whether I just drink or eat.

We were at Chicago for the first time, invited by friends. We were sitting outside and the sun was coming out, we were just ordering (!) when I asked the waiter to change seats because the sun was actually really strong. He looked at me and said, no, that wouldn't work. I thought it was a joke and smiled (still). But he continued to explain that he had now taken the order and we would just have to sit there. I've never experienced anything like this before. I was really amazed. And we have already visited many restaurants! Well, the food was ok. For wine I drank a Ca dei Frati rose. I ordered another glass: I was then served a completely different rose. So, all in all, we were disappointed. But we didn't want to show this to our friends and won't dine there again.

A beautifully located steakhouse directly on Lake Baldeney in Essen! The rib eye steak was excellent – ​​tender, juicy and cooked to perfection. The view is fantastic and the atmosphere is very pleasant. Absolutely recommended for connoisseurs and steak fans!

Surprisingly unfriendly, They turned me and my family away because we “only” wanted to buy drinks. Not even a “sorry we cannot serve you”. Turns out you have to buy food to be able to be seated here. While there were tons of tables open.

The food was of excellent quality and left nothing to be desired. The location of the restaurant by the lake is very attractive, and the spacious parking lot is another plus point. Unfortunately, the service from the waiters was not satisfactory. The way the food was served seemed unprofessional and the order was taken in an unusual position behind the guest. It is unfortunate that the service does not live up to this otherwise very good restaurant. In my opinion, there is considerable potential for improvement here.

Super nice excursion restaurant with an incredible view. The ambience was elegantly dark - fitting for the steakhouse. The service was always very quick and attentive. The beef cappaccio was ok, I've often had better, but the steak itself was fantastic. Price-performance was reasonable.

We were there on Saturday evening and the restaurant was lightly busy around 6 p.m. A very nice place to dine. The food is of good quality - the vegetables are definitely overpriced. Instead of French fries, I ordered broccoli, which wasn't offset but was added on top. A small portion of broccoli, for example, 8 euros! That doesn't have to be the case. Our waitress was, how should I put it, a bit flippant... When we asked about a non-alcoholic drink, the answer was: We don't have that... My daughter is pregnant and asked for more information... he didn't offer any assistance in finding a tasty solution. She then stuck to water. Later she asked again and then ordered a passion fruit spritzer. There is also no decaf coffee. Today, delicious non-alcoholic cocktails (there is a bar there after all) and decaf coffee should be standard. The restaurant is nice, but a certain "welcome culture" is missing. Everything was professional, nothing can be said about that. However, that certain something is missing. The 'kick' is missing. Even when eating! We go out for very expensive meals from time to time - there is another way. A little amuse gueule wouldn't be bad either. The Chicago is a restaurant that is very ambitious, but still lacks the special flair in dealing with guests to be really good. So more appearance than reality!

Mixed experience at Chicago Steakhouse in Essen We had a rather mixed experience at the Chicago Steakhouse. The location is pleasant, with a nice setting by the lake, and the interior is nice. The staff was generally friendly, and the quality of the meat was excellent — definitely the highlight of the evening. However, several things left us disappointed: - The restaurant was almost empty during our visit, which made the atmosphere feel a bit cold and lifeless. - The terrace, which offers a beautiful view, was inexplicably closed despite the lovely weather — not even accessible for a quick smoke or to enjoy the surroundings. - Unfortunately, the view is further obstructed by oversized decorative objects and statues that block what could have been a real visual asset. - There was a clear lack of coordination between the kitchen and the waitstaff: our main courses were brought out while we were still eating our starters. - As for the food: stick to the meat. The salmon tartare was disappointing — most likely frozen, with a mushy machine-cut texture, and served with bland industrial toasts. - The truffle fries were another letdown. At 11€, you’d expect at least a proper texture and some care in presentation — but the cheese wasn't even melted or gratinated, which left the whole thing strangely unappetizing. - To top it all off, the bill included items we didn’t order. We were refunded, but it’s something you really don’t expect from a place at this price point. Overall, it felt overpriced for what it was. A shame, considering the location and the quality of the steaks.

The service is also very good and free parking spaces in front of the door complete the good impression. We recommend the pumpkin cream soup and of course the perfectly prepared fillet steak. Die Aussicht von der Terrasse war schon ein Highlight, die Location war sehr schön eingerichtet. Wir hatten Glück und bekamen einen Platz am Fenster. Das Personal war sehr nett und aufmerksam. Das Essen war top. Das Steak war außen knusprig und innen, wie bestellt, medium rare gebraten. Die heißen Teller hielten das Fleisch warm, so dass selbst der letzte Bissen nicht kalt war. Die Trüffelpommes waren ein Gaumenschmaus, das gemische Gemüse hatte noch Biss und war frisch und vielfältig, ganz nach unserem Geschmack. Was allerdings gar nicht einladen ist, sind die Toiletten, hier hat es mega ekelig gerochen, die WCs waren viel zu niedrig und das Waschbecken abgerockt, wenn ich nicht unbedingt gemusst hätte, wäre ich direkt wieder rausgegangen. Dafür müsste man eigentlich 2 Punkte abziehen :-( Hier sollte dringend etwas gemacht werden.

The food was really excellent, the service was friendly. As in almost all larger restaurants, it was very loud and unfortunately shockingly cold in the restaurant, so I finally had to get my scarf because I was really freezing.

Always a treat for the palate here. The dishes are absolutely aromatic and a dream. We will always come back if the quality remains consistent.

We visited the restaurant for a third time. The food was again very tasty this time. The meat was tender and cooked to perfection. As a side dish there was a baked potato with dip. Also great (not every restaurant can prepare it). The only downer was the drafty and somewhat cold restaurant. We had already noticed this on our first visit.

The ambience is great. Thought I had discovered a really fantastic restaurant and only 15 minutes away. What a bitter disappointment. Ordered a steak for €60, with baked potatoes (the prices are beyond good and bad)! There was no salad. Rarely have I eaten such bad meat. It was so streaked with sinew and fat that it was inedible. I couldn't even cut it properly. Anyone who prides themselves on being an expert when it comes to good meat would never serve such a thing or even buy it. The audience? The parking lot is full of luxury cars. The clientele? Late twenties, thirties. Didn't give the impression that these were people with a certain level of education and academic qualifications. Because of their qualifications they simply earn well and can afford these, sometimes horrendous, prices. €111 for two people. Two drinks and two main courses (without side dishes such as vegetables, salad or the like) I can and am quite willing to pay. But not for this service and this quality. The first and last time!

Das allerletzte Restaurant: sehr abgehobene Preise, zwielichtiges Publikum, unfreudlicher und unaufmerksamer Service und das Wichtigste: ein fett- und venendurchzogenes Steak mit Ofenkartoffel (die war wenigstens gut, kann man auch nicht viel falsch machen) für 60€ was nicht wirklich schmeckte, noch nicht mal eine kleine Salatgarnitur dabei - kurz: ich würde noch nicht mal einen Stern dafür geben, nicht empfehlenswert!

Hallo ! ... ich habe das Chicago-Steakhouse viele Jahre lang geschätzt, leider geht die Qualität immer weiter zurück und die Preise nach oben. Die Karte wurde deutlich reduziert ... Der Service ist gut, wenn man bekannt ist und nicht gerade die "Jungs aus der Szene" da sind - dann ist man leider an Platz "ganz weit hinten" ! ... die steaks werden fließbandartig auf den Tisch geknallt und sind von einem guten Steak "auf den Punkt" weit entfernt ... gleiches gilt für die Beilagen .... wir kommen in den Bereich des teuren fast-foods - Convience lässt grüßen ... Schade ! ... wir kommen ab und zu nochmal vorbei und hoffen auf Besserung ....

The food was incredibly delicious. The ambience didn't suit my taste. Although it is certainly very beautiful in summer with a view of the lake. The rest is really just a matter of taste. However, I had several things that stood out to me. Firstly, I expect attractive tableware in upscale restaurants. Our plates reminded me more of a cafeteria. What struck me as particularly unpleasant, however, was the unappealing and poorly maintained sanitary facilities. Here, too, I expect a little more in the class. But, as I said, the food was very good. And that's the main thing

A slightly more expensive restaurant but quality has its price. But I think the prices for the side dishes are really high, as no side dishes are included with the whole steaks. The prices of alcoholic drinks (Apreol, Hugo…) are also comparatively high The taste was okay. Unfortunately service wasn't that good. The boys were very distracted by the local football program. The waiter rarely came to ask if we could have something else to drink. Criticism of the concept: I think in a restaurant you should have a concept but somehow it's a total mess here. The map is US American-style, with a touch of Balkans. The waiters all speak Croatian, but no Croatian liqueur is offered. The dessert menu is Italian again? But pizza is not offered To me it seems like a puzzle that just doesn't fit together.

Located above Lake Baldeney, the view from the outside terrace is fantastic, especially in summer. I regularly meet with clients there - so far everyone has been enthusiastic. The quality of the food is upscale, and you have to pay for that. I travel and eat a lot, often all over the world, and I haven't found a better deal when it comes to steaks. Most of the staff have been working there for years. The parking lot often resembles a sports car exhibition. At peak times I would recommend a reservation.

I don't usually write reviews because I don't usually have anything noteworthy to write. However, it must be said that this staff behaves completely baseless from the start and that their prejudices are already apparent. This is why the mood is terrible: there are a lot of snooty people who see you as an unknown species unless you fit their ideas 😐. And I would like to emphasize that I usually don't care if the staff don't care about an attractive service, but the prices that are charged there and the way my mother was treated by the staff just because she didn't match the "target audience" and were just too terrible to simply ignore. In my opinion, it's not even worth ordering something to eat there or visiting this restaurant for the view. This bad atmosphere just made me feel uncomfortable and horrified. I would also like to give 0/5 stars if possible. Apparently we weren't the only ones who weren't wanted either.

On a September day, I invited Grandma to spend a relaxing afternoon. After a well-tempered Prosecco, she had delicious pork fillets and I had a small rump steak with grilled vegetables. My steak was fried a little too long but still acceptable The vegetables were well seasoned and not cooked to death. Thank you very much for that. Our waiter was very attentive and friendly. It was a successful afternoon and we enjoyed a cappuccino on the magnificent terrace with the fantastic view of Lake Baldeney. My two dogs were Friendly tolerated (others sometimes give a bowl of water). The Padron looked very disdainfully at the two fluffy but quiet dogs. No matter😘 the waiter was really nice. Grandma was happy ❣️what more could you want.

So I can't understand other people's reviews, especially when it comes to service. He was actually great. The food, especially the meat, was amazing. The view of the lake is a dream. Beautifully quiet, green. There is enough parking space. The toilets were nice and clean. We were there for our wedding anniversary and would go again. Simply an unforgettable evening for two. I still know the location as Restaurant Schwarze Lene from my childhood. Now as a Chicago Steakhouse. The ambience has of course adapted to the name and is appealing and inviting. The food is very, very good. Prices are of course a little higher, but in keeping with the quality of the meat. The view of Lake Baldeney is still outstanding. 😊 Therefore, I absolutely recommend it if you want to eat a top steak in the south of Essen!

We celebrated our wedding at the Chicago Steakhouse in Essen and although the route from the registry office in Velen (near Münster) to Essen in the Ruhr area was relatively long, we and all of our guests agreed after the first course (starter plate). Shared opinion that the trip was more than worth it. Our guests and we celebrated on the terrace in beautiful weather with the best view over Lake Baldeney. Thanks to the unrestricted accessibility of the more than hospitable and kind owner, I was able to hand over our decorations on site in advance, which were then arranged exactly for us on the day of the wedding. The meeting beforehand was also very, very individual and despite my many questions, the owner took a lot of time and was very patient. Hospitality is very, very important in this restaurant. Our guests were all extremely satisfied and will continue to visit the restaurant beyond our celebration. My father-in-law even told me that he had ever eaten the best baked feta cheese there in his 60-year-old life, and another guest of ours also rated the beef fillet served as one of the best he had ever eaten in his life. Each guest received a total of around 450g of meat consisting of beef fillet, pork medallions and turkey fillet along with various side dishes. Even by the dessert (three cakes) most of the guests were already very full. Nobody went home hungry or unhappy from our celebration. Everything was as we imagined and even better! We came as strangers and left as friends! I recommend the restaurant to everyone without reservation, simply first class, especially the exceptional hospitality! Thank you again for one of the most beautiful days of our lives, which we won't soon forget thanks to you!

Unfortunately the visit was a complete disappointment. Never experienced such bad service - unfriendly and inattentive. The food was really bad for the price, absolutely not what you would expect. To make matters worse, one person in our group suffered severe food poisoning after eating a burger. I absolutely cannot recommend this place!

Leider ein absoluter Reinfall... Wir haben bewusst angerufen, um zu fragen wie lange auf ist & wie lange die Küche offen ist. Aussage: die Küche nimmt bis 22:50 Uhr Bestellungen auf. Als wir gegen 22 Uhr ankamen wurde uns statt einer Begrüßung gesagt, dass wir spät dran seien. Wir haben das Telefonat wiedergegeben, daraufhin haben wir einen Tisch bekommen und mit den Speisekarten, erneut den Hinweis, dass wir uns beeilen sollen. Es wurde eine gesamte Bestellung angenommen: Große Flasche Wasser, eine Flasche Rosé, Steaks Beilagen... mit dem Essen wurde uns gesagt wir können in Ruhe unseren Abend genießen. Um 22:40 Uhr wurde die Musik ausgemacht und neuen Gästen, die reinkamen, um was zu trinken wurde gesagt, dass leider gleich geschlossen wird. Bei aller Liebe, wir geben gerne Geld für Essen und Ambiente ein, aber eine Rechnung von fast 200€ für 40 Minuten ist eine BODENLOSE FRECHHEIT! Leider wird uns das Restaurant nach unserem ersten Besuch nie wieder sehen und Empfehlen werden wir es in keinster Weise, weder für beruflich, noch Private Termine. Zum Essen: ok aber nichts besonderes. Location: Super nettes Ambiente und top gelegen am See!

Overall, the food was very good, my beef fillet medium was on point, very tasty quark dip on the baked potato, I had expected a little more from the pepper sauce. Wiener Schnitzel (veal) also really good. However, the prices overall are not bad, especially for the wines. A bottle of Rode from Ca dei Frati for around €40 is quite a statement, or the Chateaubriand for €180. Good service, including advice, plus a dream location (terrace with a view of Lake Baldeney) and also very nicely/stylishly furnished inside. We'd love to come back.

Unfortunately, when we visited on Sunday afternoon, all seats were already occupied for dinner in the evening, so we were firmly rejected by the friendly doorman. So we have to test the food later. The view of Lake Baldeney from up there is impressive. We then enjoyed an invigorating drink further down by the water - and will be back!

Not recommended! Today 32 degrees - we wanted to drink something, but we were immediately told we also HAD to eat... so I ordered a salad. We had to wait 10 minutes while other guests who came later were served more quickly. The salad came and the drinks we ordered didn't come even after 45 minutes, despite repeated requests! That was a comeback because we didn't want to eat anything. Then you can't call yourself a restaurant & bar!!! I think it's impossible that we're being allowed to die of thirst in this heat, it's inhumane and has nothing to do with decency and respect! And several waiters walked past us and deliberately didn't notice us! Impossible behavior on your part! I will never enter this restaurant again. I wanted to give zero stars for this poor service! There was no apology either!

If you want to enjoy the view of Lake Baldeney, this is the place for you. The price of the food was not reasonable. The pork fillet was completely cooked and very dry. There was pork fillet with fries, little sauce and no side salad. The whole thing for just under 30.00 euros I think the price is excessive.

An unfriendly waiter turned us away right at the entrance because we just wanted something to drink and he wanted to keep the tables free for guests with food. However, there were probably 30 tables free, and even when we made it clear that we only wanted to stay for half an hour and then free up the place again, the waiter didn't want to give us a seat. Not hospitable at all.

The reception was very nice and I could choose where I wanted to sit. I found the waiter who served us to be a bit listless when interacting with me and my guest. The food there was very tasty. It was very cool in the toilet there that day, if not I dare say cold... so if you don't go in there with a jacket I would say you would freeze. Top steakhouse. Great meat. The view of the lake from the terrace is priceless.

A little overpriced. Due to the differentiated ratings on Google and other platforms, we considered whether we would visit the restaurant. We usually only eat fine dining and go to Michelin star restaurants 6-8 times a year, so we can easily assess the quality of the food. In contrast to other reviews, we found the service to be very friendly and accommodating. Unfortunately, when it comes to steaks, you have to say that price and quality don't match. We both had a fillet (€49) and rump steak (€48) from US Prime Beef. The steaks were cooked correctly, but unfortunately the quality was rather low. I would have classified the quality as classic German beef. The quality of our standard Italian is much better and significantly cheaper. The side dishes were good, especially the fries. The dessert (chocolate soufflé) was a poor convenience product. Espresso was ok. The view of Lake Baldeney is of course beautiful. Conclusion: Despite the high prices, the restaurant is ideal for a warm summer evening.

Aufgrund der differenzierten Bewertung bei Google und anderen Plattformen haben wir überlegt, ob wir das Restaurant besuchen. Wir gehen in der Regel nur gehoben essen und 6-8 mal im Jahr in Michelin Sterne Restaurant, so dass wir die Qualität des Essens gut einschätzen können. Im Gegensatz zu anderen Bewertungen, fanden wir den Service sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend. Bei den Steaks muss man aber leider sagen, dass Preis und Qualität nicht zusammenpassen. Wir hatten beide ein Filet (49€) und Rumpsteak (48€) vom US Prime Beef. Die Steaks waren korrekt gegart, allerdings von der Qualität leider eher auf niedrigem Niveau. Ich hätte die Qualität auf klassisches deutsches Rindfleisch eingestuft. Da ist die Qualität bei unserem Standard Italiener wesentlich besser und deutlich günstiger. Die Beilagen waren gut, besonders die Pommes. Das Dessert (Schoko-Soufflé) war ein schlechtes Convenience-Produkt. Espresso war ok. Der Blick auf den Baldeneysee ist natürlich schön. Fazit: Für einen warmen Sommerabend bietet sich das Restaurant trotz der erhobenen Preise an.

Food was tasty, but also expensive😉 Price/performance ratio is not right

The Chicago Steakhouse is a real eye-catcher. Its rustic, modern interior and excellent meat are a clear recommendation for anyone who prefers a bloody culinary feast with flair. Fast and courteous service, the terrace area is also cozy and has enough space for lung roll eaters.
