Hallo ! ... ich habe das Chicago-Steakhouse viele Jahre lang geschätzt, leider geht die Qualität immer weiter zurück und die Preise nach oben. Die Karte wurde deutlich reduziert ... Der Service ist gut, wenn man bekannt ist und nicht gerade die "Jungs aus der Szene" da sind - dann ist man leider an Platz "ganz weit hinten" ! ... die steaks werden fließbandartig auf den Tisch geknallt und sind von einem guten Steak "auf den Punkt" weit entfernt ... gleiches gilt für die Beilagen .... wir kommen in den Bereich des teuren fast-foods - Convience lässt grüßen ... Schade ! ... wir kommen ab und zu nochmal vorbei und hoffen auf Besserung ....

A great restaurant with a great view

If you want to eat the best meat around, you should definitely go to Chicago. We were once again completely satisfied with the quality of the food and the service. Thank you for a lovely evening with you.

Located above Lake Baldeney, the view from the outside terrace is fantastic, especially in summer. I regularly meet with clients there - so far everyone has been enthusiastic. The quality of the food is upscale, and you have to pay for that. I travel and eat a lot, often all over the world, and I haven't found a better deal when it comes to steaks. Most of the staff have been working there for years. The parking lot often resembles a sports car exhibition. At peak times I would recommend a reservation.

I don't usually write reviews because I don't usually have anything noteworthy to write. However, it must be said that this staff behaves completely baseless from the start and that their prejudices are already apparent. This is why the mood is terrible: there are a lot of snooty people who see you as an unknown species unless you fit their ideas 😐. And I would like to emphasize that I usually don't care if the staff don't care about an attractive service, but the prices that are charged there and the way my mother was treated by the staff just because she didn't match the "target audience" and were just too terrible to simply ignore. In my opinion, it's not even worth ordering something to eat there or visiting this restaurant for the view. This bad atmosphere just made me feel uncomfortable and horrified. I would also like to give 0/5 stars if possible. Apparently we weren't the only ones who weren't wanted either.

Very good quality of meat, very tasty.

The food was exceptionally good. We had a business lunch with 7 people. The food came quickly and was fantastically good. I had a 300g steak medium which was very tender. The ambience is very appealing and sometimes even has a lounge feel.

On a September day, I invited Grandma to spend a relaxing afternoon. After a well-tempered Prosecco, she had delicious pork fillets and I had a small rump steak with grilled vegetables. My steak was fried a little too long but still acceptable The vegetables were well seasoned and not cooked to death. Thank you very much for that. Our waiter was very attentive and friendly. It was a successful afternoon and we enjoyed a cappuccino on the magnificent terrace with the fantastic view of Lake Baldeney. My two dogs were Friendly tolerated (others sometimes give a bowl of water). The Padron looked very disdainfully at the two fluffy but quiet dogs. No matter😘 the waiter was really nice. Grandma was happy ❣️what more could you want.

We were invited here by our supplier and were really surprised. Until now we hadn't heard anything about this great restaurant with a fantastic view. The food was delicious and the staff was very friendly. The ambience is also great. I'll definitely come back here again. You should definitely reserve a table.

So I can't understand other people's reviews, especially when it comes to service. He was actually great. The food, especially the meat, was amazing. The view of the lake is a dream. Beautifully quiet, green. There is enough parking space. The toilets were nice and clean. We were there for our wedding anniversary and would go again. Simply an unforgettable evening for two. Thank you Chicago steakhouse for this.

Everything was fantastic: food, service, views, etc. But VERY EXPENSIVE!!!

The food was super tasty and it looks wonderful, especially when you're eating outside on a warm day. The service was always prompt and attentive, but unfortunately couldn't answer any questions about the different types of meat on the menu. All in all, always happy to give it a 5 🌟

I still know the location as Restaurant Schwarze Lene from my childhood. Now as a Chicago Steakhouse. The ambience has of course adapted to the name and is appealing and inviting. The food is very, very good. Prices are of course a little higher, but in keeping with the quality of the meat. The view of Lake Baldeney is still outstanding. 😊 Therefore, I absolutely recommend it if you want to eat a top steak in the south of Essen!

We celebrated our wedding at the Chicago Steakhouse in Essen and although the route from the registry office in Velen (near Münster) to Essen in the Ruhr area was relatively long, we and all of our guests agreed after the first course (starter plate). Shared opinion that the trip was more than worth it. Our guests and we celebrated on the terrace in beautiful weather with the best view over Lake Baldeney. Thanks to the unrestricted accessibility of the more than hospitable and kind owner, I was able to hand over our decorations on site in advance, which were then arranged exactly for us on the day of the wedding. The meeting beforehand was also very, very individual and despite my many questions, the owner took a lot of time and was very patient. Hospitality is very, very important in this restaurant. Our guests were all extremely satisfied and will continue to visit the restaurant beyond our celebration. My father-in-law even told me that he had ever eaten the best baked feta cheese there in his 60-year-old life, and another guest of ours also rated the beef fillet served as one of the best he had ever eaten in his life. Each guest received a total of around 450g of meat consisting of beef fillet, pork medallions and turkey fillet along with various side dishes. Even by the dessert (three cakes) most of the guests were already very full. Nobody went home hungry or unhappy from our celebration. Everything was as we imagined and even better! We came as strangers and left as friends! I recommend the restaurant to everyone without reservation, simply first class, especially the exceptional hospitality! Thank you again for one of the most beautiful days of our lives, which we won't soon forget thanks to you!

The terrace was really nice, the food was really tasty, but unfortunately we were greeted in a relatively unfriendly and arrogant manner. A little kindness really can't hurt.

Unfortunately the visit was a complete disappointment. Never experienced such bad service - unfriendly and inattentive. The food was really bad for the price, absolutely not what you would expect. To make matters worse, one person in our group suffered severe food poisoning after eating a burger. I absolutely cannot recommend this place!

Leider ein absoluter Reinfall... Wir haben bewusst angerufen, um zu fragen wie lange auf ist & wie lange die Küche offen ist. Aussage: die Küche nimmt bis 22:50 Uhr Bestellungen auf. Als wir gegen 22 Uhr ankamen wurde uns statt einer Begrüßung gesagt, dass wir spät dran seien. Wir haben das Telefonat wiedergegeben, daraufhin haben wir einen Tisch bekommen und mit den Speisekarten, erneut den Hinweis, dass wir uns beeilen sollen. Es wurde eine gesamte Bestellung angenommen: Große Flasche Wasser, eine Flasche Rosé, Steaks Beilagen... mit dem Essen wurde uns gesagt wir können in Ruhe unseren Abend genießen. Um 22:40 Uhr wurde die Musik ausgemacht und neuen Gästen, die reinkamen, um was zu trinken wurde gesagt, dass leider gleich geschlossen wird. Bei aller Liebe, wir geben gerne Geld für Essen und Ambiente ein, aber eine Rechnung von fast 200€ für 40 Minuten ist eine BODENLOSE FRECHHEIT! Leider wird uns das Restaurant nach unserem ersten Besuch nie wieder sehen und Empfehlen werden wir es in keinster Weise, weder für beruflich, noch Private Termine. Zum Essen: ok aber nichts besonderes. Location: Super nettes Ambiente und top gelegen am See!

The good quality of the meat in no way justifies the outrageously high prices!!The atmosphere is too American and the service is polite but impatient.The view from the terrace is unique, but still not enough for a second visit!!It's a shame!!

Unfortunately, when we visited on Sunday afternoon, all seats were already occupied for dinner in the evening, so we were firmly rejected by the friendly doorman. So we have to test the food later. The view of Lake Baldeney from up there is impressive. We then enjoyed an invigorating drink further down by the water - and will be back!

Overall, the food was very good, my beef fillet medium was on point, very tasty quark dip on the baked potato, I had expected a little more from the pepper sauce. Wiener Schnitzel (veal) also really good. However, the prices overall are not bad, especially for the wines. A bottle of Rode from Ca dei Frati for around €40 is quite a statement, or the Chateaubriand for €180. Good service, including advice, plus a dream location (terrace with a view of Lake Baldeney) and also very nicely/stylishly furnished inside. We'd love to come back.

The restaurant is generally an experience. The place is wonderful with a great view of Lake Baldeney. The service is super friendly and attentive. The food was perfect. Anyone who likes to spend money on very good food is really in good hands here. Absolute recommendation! And leaving a little room for dessert is really worth it!

Not recommended! Today 32 degrees - we wanted to drink something, but we were immediately told we also HAD to eat... so I ordered a salad. We had to wait 10 minutes while other guests who came later were served more quickly. The salad came and the drinks we ordered didn't come even after 45 minutes, despite repeated requests! That was a comeback because we didn't want to eat anything. Then you can't call yourself a restaurant & bar!!! I think it's impossible that we're being allowed to die of thirst in this heat, it's inhumane and has nothing to do with decency and respect! And several waiters walked past us and deliberately didn't notice us! Impossible behavior on your part! I will never enter this restaurant again. I wanted to give zero stars for this poor service! There was no apology either!

We ate there twice. The first impression was confirmed. The meat is of very good quality and the food is really tasty. But the prices are astronomical and the service doesn't match it. Here you really have to try hard to get a waiter or waitress and somehow you always have the feeling that you are disturbing people while they are working. It's new here, but when I have to spend €60 on a steak, I expect a little more

If you want to enjoy the view of Lake Baldeney, this is the place for you. The price of the food was not reasonable. The pork fillet was completely cooked and very dry. There was pork fillet with fries, little sauce and no side salad. The whole thing for just under 30.00 euros I think the price is excessive.

An unfriendly waiter turned us away right at the entrance because we just wanted something to drink and he wanted to keep the tables free for guests with food. However, there were probably 30 tables free, and even when we made it clear that we only wanted to stay for half an hour and then free up the place again, the waiter didn't want to give us a seat. Not hospitable at all.

The reception was very nice and I could choose where I wanted to sit. I found the waiter who served us to be a bit listless when interacting with me and my guest. The food there was very tasty. It was very cool in the toilet there that day, if not I dare say cold... so if you don't go in there with a jacket I would say you would freeze. It would be very nice if we could do something about it.

After a very short conversation with the curmudgeon, who made it clear to us at the reception with concentrated rudeness about his lack of customer orientation, we didn't even stay there to eat. Such behavior does not undo the prospect. The restaurant “Cavos” is just a 7-minute drive away, directly on the Ruhr and also has a great view. An unbelievable difference from the first second. No trace of bored, unfriendly would-be service staff and incredibly good food. Drive on for a few minutes. You will not regret it.

A little overpriced. Due to the differentiated ratings on Google and other platforms, we considered whether we would visit the restaurant. We usually only eat fine dining and go to Michelin star restaurants 6-8 times a year, so we can easily assess the quality of the food. In contrast to other reviews, we found the service to be very friendly and accommodating. Unfortunately, when it comes to steaks, you have to say that price and quality don't match. We both had a fillet (€49) and rump steak (€48) from US Prime Beef. The steaks were cooked correctly, but unfortunately the quality was rather low. I would have classified the quality as classic German beef. The quality of our standard Italian is much better and significantly cheaper. The side dishes were good, especially the fries. The dessert (chocolate soufflé) was a poor convenience product. Espresso was ok. The view of Lake Baldeney is of course beautiful. Conclusion: Despite the high prices, the restaurant is ideal for a warm summer evening.

Aufgrund der differenzierten Bewertung bei Google und anderen Plattformen haben wir überlegt, ob wir das Restaurant besuchen. Wir gehen in der Regel nur gehoben essen und 6-8 mal im Jahr in Michelin Sterne Restaurant, so dass wir die Qualität des Essens gut einschätzen können. Im Gegensatz zu anderen Bewertungen, fanden wir den Service sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend. Bei den Steaks muss man aber leider sagen, dass Preis und Qualität nicht zusammenpassen. Wir hatten beide ein Filet (49€) und Rumpsteak (48€) vom US Prime Beef. Die Steaks waren korrekt gegart, allerdings von der Qualität leider eher auf niedrigem Niveau. Ich hätte die Qualität auf klassisches deutsches Rindfleisch eingestuft. Da ist die Qualität bei unserem Standard Italiener wesentlich besser und deutlich günstiger. Die Beilagen waren gut, besonders die Pommes. Das Dessert (Schoko-Soufflé) war ein schlechtes Convenience-Produkt. Espresso war ok. Der Blick auf den Baldeneysee ist natürlich schön. Fazit: Für einen warmen Sommerabend bietet sich das Restaurant trotz der erhobenen Preise an.

Food was tasty, but also expensive😉 Price/performance ratio is not right

The Chicago Steakhouse is a real eye-catcher. Its rustic, modern interior and excellent meat are a clear recommendation for anyone who prefers a bloody culinary feast with flair. Fast and courteous service, the terrace area is also cozy and has enough space for lung roll eaters.

I wanted to celebrate my mother's birthday on the terrace when the weather was nice, so I made a reservation there and asked to get a place with a view of Lake Baldeney. This was well received. When we arrived we were given a seat in the corner with no view of the lake, even though all the seats were free. When I asked if we could get a seat there, I was just told that they don't make reservations for individual seats. A little later, more well-heeled people came and of course got the best seats. Some places were still not filled. We also left 350 euros and I think it's a real shame that people are differentiated.

If the restaurant is empty at 4:45 p.m. during the week, only “diners” are allowed. A snack like fries isn't enough... Then go to the South Tyrolean Stuben or one exit further on Jagdhaus Schellenberg

Actually, I don't tend to whine... but when I arrived there I felt so lied to by the employees that I didn't even like the delicious burgers anymore. The occasion was my godchild's 12th birthday. We were 5 adults and 3 adolescents... We had made reservations for 6 people but came with 8 and we were assigned a space which was okay. The round table by the window with a view of the lake would have been much, much nicer. This table was persistently refused to us, with the claim that it was reserved...even after two hours of it being empty, I was still blatantly told that it was reserved. When we left the parking lot after 2.5 hours, there was still no one in sight who could have occupied this space... Why? I would have preferred a simple, honest explanation of whatever kind rather than the blatant lies from the staff. Therefore, the food was really tasty, the atmosphere was chic, but still, only 1 star.

I can only recommend that we go there again

We ate very well and the terrace with a view of Lake Baldeney is very nice.

A great steakhouse with romantic mountain and water views, accompanied by a wonderful atmosphere and delicious food. The only downside was that we had to wait 50 minutes for the food. It was crowded but definitely worth the wait. Especially the dessert: absolutely fair price, soufflé, super delicious.

The prices are high - but the magnificent view, the excellent food and the excellent service make up for it.

I called in the evening and asked if there was still a table available. Without even thinking or looking, I would have expected a different answer in this price segment. The answer from the cellar was: No, everything was full. And then he just hung up 👍 after the short and very rude phone call, I know that I am not valued there as a customer. We then went to Tablo in Essen. You will be treated really well there and it doesn't matter whether it's spontaneous or reserved long in advance.

Beautiful view, but unfortunately some of the staff are unprofessional and unfriendly. The food is mediocre, unfortunately the cooking level for our steak order was not taken into account (medium arrived rather than well-done and was relatively tough). We went there twice to see the view, but there were more flaws than positive aspects, which is why it wouldn't be worth another visit for us.

vorab erst einmal: Wir sind von dem Personal immer höflich behandelt worden, immer freundlich und aufmerksam bedient worden, da gibt es keine zwei Meinungen Warum schreibe ich dann eine solche Bewertung? Die Preise sind exorbitant in die Höhe geschnellt, von einem Tag auf den anderen. Das ist in keiner Weise nachvollziehbar. Ich muss für ein Steak keine 50 € bezahlen. dann ist es so, dass das am Tisch angerührte Tiramisu nur noch aus drei Biskuit besteht, die mal entfernt eine Mascarpone Creme gesehen haben ich war sehr gerne und sehr oft im Chicago, aber mittlerweile, trotz gutem Essen, fühle ich mich dort nicht mehr wohl Die Preise können dann tatsächlich den Appetit verderben wenn ich in irgendeiner Weise die Verdopplung der Preise verstehen würde, wäre ich auch bereit, diese zu bezahlen, aber die Einkaufspreise für Fleisch haben sich nicht geändert (ich bin da recht gut informiert)

I had the pleasure of dining at Steakhouse Chicago yesterday and I have to say it was a real treat. The wine was delicious and met my taste exactly. The starter was delicious and the steak was of excellent quality. The dessert was also very tasty and the ice cream had a pleasant sweetness. The atmosphere of the steakhouse was very inviting and cozy. There was something to suit every taste, from comfortable armchairs and seating areas to tables for larger groups. The wait staff was very attentive and friendly and made me feel comfortable during my stay. Overall, dinner at Steakhouse Chicago was excellent. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a delicious meal and a pleasant atmosphere.

First of all, great location with a great view, which is only available when the weather is good. Inside the ambience is almost perfect, I like the rustic style, fits a steakhouse. However, the pictures on the tripods are out of place; instead, more rustic elements should be integrated. The food is excellent, steaks are served to perfection and with great flavors. The side dishes also have a great roasted aroma. Unfortunately the prices are significantly too high! With this price range you only look here once. Two people can spend a total of €160 here for one evening. The cheapest house wine 0.2l must not cost €8. The staff is professional, although not always with a smile on their faces. the toilets are clean. There are enough free parking spaces.

If you like eating steak you have to go here! Fantastic view of Lake Baldeney.

I’ve tried the Argentinien steak and was amazing! Perfectly cooked , greek grilled cheese is also good. Abit pricy I have to say but amazing quality would come again!

The ambience was great. However, the service left so much to be desired. The waiter who served us should probably work at Mc D., even though the employees there are more polite. As a woman you are not respected at all. The empty bottles from the neighboring table were “parked” on our table because it couldn’t carry any more, an absolute no-go. We weren't given a drink menu, so we just drank cola (it was only available without carbonation). Besides, when I go to a “high-quality restaurant”, you don’t just slam bags of ketchup and mayo onto the table. Small changes to dishes were not accepted, that could not be left out. At the end when we wanted to pay we were looked at stupidly because we were paying in cash. So all in all, the food was good but not outstanding, service was very, very subpar, only the ambience can score. But for the money we would rather go to other service-oriented restaurants. Which is why we didn't order dessert there anymore.

The steak was very good, could have been a little warmer, but didn't say anything based on the doneness. The steaks are also reasonably priced. However, I think the prices are utopian for the sizes of the soup. There is a huge break-even point, especially with soups, but the outlook is apparently also paid for.

We had wonderful weather and sat on the great terrace with a view over Lake Baldeney. That alone was like a day of vacation. We also ate really well, the meat was a delight. It was a successful evening all around. Thank you for that

A steak specialty store. I went there with no expectations, but it was delicious.

It's an excellent Steakhaus, the meat is very good, the service is fast and attentive and the place is very well located with a view of the lake.

The steaks are great. Price-performance ratio is perfectly fine. Very tasty sweet potato fries.

Unfortunately more wanted than delivered. The price is on par with upscale steakhouses, but the quality is mediocre. Side dishes are consistently mediocre and rather poor pub standard, some too salty and convenience products. The cooking point of the steaks was consistently met and delivered as ordered. Meat quality but sub-class, no marbling, fat not edible, tendons streaked through and neutral meat taste. Unfortunately it wasn't enjoyable. Service very friendly and quick.

The portions are large (like double), delicious food and delicious sauces for salad and fish. Beautiful restaurant, spacious. With a gorgeous view of the river. Prices are reasonable. The two of us ate for 75 euros. The staff is nice. It’s just a pity that the summer playground is not open yet. I really liked it.

Everything great! We'd love to come back

The location is excellent, high above Lake Baldeney with a great view. The atmosphere is modern and pleasant. The quality of the food doesn't match the prices. My rack of lamb was fried too long and the spinach was mushy.

Very unfriendly staff. We were there at around 5:30 p.m. and had reserved. There were enough seats available, but we were still seated at a table for two that was in the shade. People asked if they could sit on the parapet because there was a wonderful view of the Ruhr. It was said that this was not possible and that it would soon be full. So we sat down at the table for two. After a while, other guests arrived who had the same nationality as the owners of the shop, and suddenly two people could be seated at a table of four in the sun. When we asked if we could sit at another table, as it got cold after a while, this was answered in the negative and not discussed further. Later, however, two older gentlemen were allowed to sit at another table. If we had black hair and not blonde, we would have been treated like royalty. Never again !

High class steak house - top quality - top service

A cozy dinner on Sunday evening was a success. First of all there was a pumpkin cream soup that didn't have enough spice for our taste. The Greek Cheese, on the other hand, was perfectly seasoned, very tasty and very hot ;-) The main course was great, we had rib-eye steak from Australia. The degree of grilling was perfect and the herb butter was great. As a side dish there was broccoli with Bernaise sauce, spinach and potato chips. Portions are nice and big. For dessert there were crepes filled with vanilla ice cream and hot cherries on top. Perfect for sharing as the portion was huge. There was also a latte macchiato :-) The Sevicr was attentive and nice 😊

If you want to eat a very good steak, go to Chicago Steakhouse. The food tasted excellent, the waiter was very attentive, the pistachio parfait dessert was heavenly. The ambience is also very nice. And of course the breathtaking view of Lake Baldeney should not be forgotten. The two of us left 150 euros and we don't drink alcohol. If you want to drink a little wine with it, then it's more like 200 euros. It's not cheap, but you don't treat yourself to anything else.

We went to Chicago Steakhouse on a Saturday with a reservation. There was parking right in front of the door. This was also one of the less positive points. We were shown to our table and when we wanted to order, questions arose. How big are the side dishes? What is this sauce? They couldn't and wouldn't give us an answer to that. Which I found extremely unfortunate. Some of the side dishes were not brought but they were still on the bill. We were later blamed for why we hadn't said anything. After the third forgotten insert we gave up. In my opinion, the kitchen and service have to coordinate and it is not the guest's job to check the completeness of the food in a group of 6 people. The request to fry the burger patties medium was also answered with: that's not possible, they're made of beef. This statement had nothing to do with the request. Drinks were no longer requested after the first round and we had to keep calling the waiter to us. Even when we wanted to pay, no one came to tell us this. When we got up and went to the front, the waiter wanted to know if everything went together. When we said no, he asked if he wanted to divide the bill by three. We also denied this. All we got back was: Sure? Otherwise I have to re-enter everything in the system. We said yes, but you could clearly see the displeasure. When we pointed out the error regarding the side dishes on the bill, we were complained that we were only now getting around the corner. If a waiter had come every now and then, we could have told him about it. All in all, this will be our first and last visit. If I'm going to pay these prices, then I expect friendly service.

What hasn't there been a lot of discussion about Chicago? You just have to remember that there is very good meat there. Yes, it is in the higher price range, but you also get very good quality. I can recommend the restaurant.

Nice view, and good food. However, the staff are currently having their communicative breakdowns and there is a lack of friendliness. Unfortunately. I've been eating there for a few years, and today I just wanted to have a drink there during a rain shower. The shop was almost empty. Nevertheless, they only wanted to have a guest who would also eat something. A business philosophy that I can respect, even if I don't think it makes sense in an empty store. But of course it is the right of the restaurant owner. What I clearly criticize, however, is the really rough and unfriendly way of conveying this. There's a more charming way to do it, and at least during a rain shower it's also more friendly and service-oriented. It's just a short thought, as I've of course been completely lost as a "dining guest" in the future. But everyone has their own strategy with customers and in terms of friendliness.
