BLOCK HOUSE Essen in Essen

I was visiting Essen for two days and ate there twice: once I had beef fillet with vegetables, once I had ribeye with salad. The meat was great and cooked perfectly. The staff were very attentive. I particularly liked the fact that you can deselect something on the menu and add something else. For example, I didn't want potatoes, but I wanted something different. You then only pay for what you want to eat. Since we also have BLOCK HOUSE in Stuttgart, I will also eat there. Thanks for the positive experience. (Since there is a lot of begging in the pedestrian zone in Essen, I wouldn't sit outside.)

Never again! My steak was so chewy, Potato over cooked and a bit burn. Choice of Salad even more confused when it was included and I wanted extra sidedish, but i can only choose to pay extra for side-dish and lost my salad!? Or I have to pay more!? staff wasn’t friendly to be asked for explanation the third time so let it be! Btw 70 Euro for 2 is a big expensive for expensive we got. I would consider it more average, not just a nice dining meal.

Jedes billige Steak vom Discounter würde ich diesem Laden vorziehen. So ein mieses Steak habe ich selten essen müssen. Die Folienkartoffel war ein Matschklumpen und der Kellner war nicht zu verstehen weil er zu schnell genuschelt hat. Was für eine Enttäuschung...nie wieder hier!

Were there on a Tuesday afternoon. It was very empty and Sebastian, the waiter, was very attentive. All questions were answered and all requests were addressed. The meat was medium+. Perfect and delicious. It was my first, but certainly not last, visit.

The food was not good.. the steak was rare and not medium, the potato was small and mushy.. just not good for the price. I won't eat there anymore

We were visiting Essen for the first time and looking for a good restaurant. We chose this place because of the good reviews. The steaks are perfectly cooked. Price is just normal for a good piece of steak. Location is just in the city center.

The Block House Essen is a good and cozy restaurant with very friendly service staff. Due to its American origins, it was exactly the right atmosphere for the visit after the GFL Bowl, the final game of American football in Germany, in the stadium on Hafenstrasse. Food was very tasty, everything was perfect, so 5 points everywhere…

Quality meat and comes accompanied with potato and sauce with salad

Had a nice dinner here with colleagues. The rib eye was really tasty and the sides including the option for bruschetta were good as well. Safe bet for dinner.

Lamb steak with spinach and potatoes was a good composition.

There is still room for improvement here. I order the tenderloin from the steak menu. The menu says “high and thick cut” and I note that I attach great importance to having it served that way. Especially given the ambitious price. The service lady was very nice until then, replied that it was a natural product and that you couldn't promise that... I'm sorry, what? Then why is it written like that on the map???? So I asked if it's just the goal with "high and thick cut"? She couldn't answer that and asked whether I wanted to order it or not. Very unprofessional. If something is advertised, you should deliver it to the guest. It came as it had to come... flat as a flounder. Far from tall/thick. Meat quality was ultimately mediocre. Unfortunately, the grilled medium order was almost well done.

Visited Restaurant during a visit to Essen. It was a Saturday night, and there was a queue to get in. It was around 10 min wait, but we got a table. The service was decent. I can't fault it on a busy night. Our food and drinks were delivered without a wait and enjoyable. The burger was lovely, the meat wasn't dry like some burgers and it came loaded with cheese and tomato. Atmosphere was nice and the toilets were clean and maintained. I'd recommend it, it was a nice evening out on the last evening of our trip.

Very friendly staff. Food top. Price OK for the products. Cleanliness of the toilet facilities was top. We were completely satisfied.

A very, very nice restaurant with a great ambience. The food is very delicious and is offered at a fair price. Making a reservation was easy and quick, and it wasn't a problem to get to our table in half an hour. Clear recommendation to anyone who wants to eat a delicious steak or a good burger for little money. The staff is very friendly and you can tell that they enjoy their work, it's easy to talk to them and they give you excellent recommendations when it comes to food.

Unfassbar sowas ist mir noch nie passiert Ich habe insgesamt 99.90 bezahlt was an sich ja ok ist ich gebe 100 Euro ab und sage ich möchte den Rest nicht wieder haben, natürlich dachte ich mir dabei nichts da muss ich mir von dem Kellner anhören 10 Cent brauch ich nicht davon kann ich mir auch nichts kaufen .. legt die 10 Cent hin und sagt Eckelhaft so Menschen . Sowas ist mir noch nie passiert sowas undenkbares . Niemals würde ich dieses Restaurant jemanden empfehlen.

Ein Hund, der nicht einmal an den Tisch ran kommt wird des Lokals verwiesen, während andere Gäste mit den Füßen auf den Sitzen haben... ein Kompliment an Ihre "Managerin", die sich auf Hygiene-Vorschriften beruft und diese absolut genervt und unfreundlich vermittelt.

It’s overrated. The service was just okay, and the manager was too busy to properly address our request to replace the steak, which we believed was overcooked — they disagreed. Honestly, the onion soup was odd, lacking caramelization, and the beef tartare was mixed with wine vinegar. Just imagine that.

The waiter spoke so quietly that you had to keep asking. I was asked for ketchup, mayonnaise or steak sauce. My husband, who ordered the same thing as me, didn't. The knife was then replaced with a steak knife, but was passed across the table to my husband instead of putting it on his napkin. My ketchup was then forgotten and my husband's steak sauce was also forgotten. At the next table we noticed that the guests had received and paid the wrong bill. Unfortunately, Block House is no longer what it used to be.

Unfortunately, the portions are getting smaller every year. The bread is now only a quarter of what you used to get and the baked potatoes are only half as big (if at all) compared to before. The prices continue to rise.

I had dinner there with my family last week and it was just great. The service and the food were very good. My family enjoyed it and we would come back soon because the food and everything else there is very good. We were very happy!!!

We sat down at the table. We ordered beer, wine and water because we weren't hungry. We were nicely served by the waiter. After 10 minutes, the impudent manager came and said that if we didn't order food, we should go. Most of the tables outside were free. First time. I've seen such impertinent treatment of a guest. Maybe the manager should look for another job because she's not suitable for this one.

We personally reserved a table on site at 1 p.m. When we arrived the table was occupied and an absolutely incompetent waiter stuttered something incomprehensible like ??? Not to be defined. In the blockhouse you are asked to wait until you are shown to the table. The receptionist wasn't exactly in control of the situation either. We went. It's a shame actually. Because we used to be regulars.

I mean it was a bit expensive and the atmosphere was not that super cool meanwhile the food let's say average not bad but the portion cost over 40 Euro and was small a bit didn't feel that full for 45 Euro portion and the meat could've been better otherwise good experience

Today I have the first one Ate in a block house once. I ordered an AMERICAN TENDERLOIN. Unfortunately, I wasn't completely satisfied with my experience. Unfortunately, the doneness of my steak differed significantly from what I ordered (medium). Unfortunately the meat was almost done. When the waiter cleared the plates after the meal, I honestly asked if everything was OK. O. replied that the doneness was unfortunately missed. Instead of apologizing for the mishap, I was confronted with accusations as to why I didn't get in touch sooner. Everyone has to know how to maintain their restaurant and how they interact with customers. The rest of the restaurant experience and the taste of the side dishes were fine. A repeat visit is no longer an option for me.

Steak and everything that went with it were great. The service was excellent - perhaps a little pressured when everything wasn't on the table straight away. Almost puts the guest under a bit of pressure - a slightly more relaxed atmosphere would be nice. The plates may be a bit out of date. But overall great!

Hello, I was just eating steak at Blockhous in the city. Service was very friendly. Logically, the bill comes at the end. The bill was €85.20 for 2 people and we paid by card. After paying the bill, there was no thank you, have a nice evening or any other tone from the waitress. The male waiter simply walked away from the table after paying the bill. I have never experienced anything like it. What kind of outrageous behavior is this. I suspect it was about the tip, which I already had ready in my other hand. So for me it was the first and last time to eat there. You don't have to put up with something like that. I'm also really speechless at the behavior that's going on. Something like that is no longer acceptable to me and you can no longer ignore it. I can't make any recommendations. Better go somewhere else.

Good, tasty steak restaurant! Ambience is cozier inside than it looks from outside! Open kitchen, top steak quality! Also great for families! Unfortunately only 1 fish dish on the menu and no vegetarian or vegan burgers!

Es ist ein geräumiges Restaurant im Herzen der Innenstadt von Essen - den Zentrumskern kann man jetzt schön finden oder auch nicht, aber für die 70ger-Jahre-Bebauung im Umkreis kann das Restaurant nun wirlich nichts (der vor dem Restaurant befindliche Kennedyplatz ist i.d.R. hochfrequentiert für den Weihnachtsmarkt, die Eisbahn oder jetzt im Sommer für das "Public Viewing EM 2024" - max. 10 min. vom Hauptbahnhof entfernt). Schnelle Platzzuteilung, schnelle Aufnahme des Essens- und Getränkewunsches - und ein paar Minuten später "Essen auf dem Tisch" - 2 x Fitnessteller (wo das Fleisch in gewohnt guter Qualität war, lediglich der Gemüseanteil wirkte ein wenig verloren auf dem Teller) und Getränke (inkl. Kaffee) für ca. € 60,-- sind ein normaler Preis. Gerade für die Mittagszeit, wo es auch mal schnell gehen muss, sehr zu empfehlen - für das gemütliche Candlelight-Dinner gäbe es sicherlich lauschigere Plätzchen.

Always happy to go to the Block House. I have known the chain for many years and have always received reasonable quality at a reasonable price. My wife usually eats the burger, which is prepared differently than in other restaurants. This is almost always pointed out to us. I can't fault anything here. And always very friendly service. Very tasty steaks and a really great Caesar salad.

Three times it was okay, although clearly too expensive. I know many “Block House” branches in various cities. Unfortunately, there are significant differences in both food and staff skills. Unfortunately, the “restaurant manager/receptionist” here is a bit overwhelmed when she takes a call with a reservation. During this time, arriving guests are neither greeted nor seated. When I asked today why I couldn't get a lunch menu, I was told that it was only available if you asked, otherwise you could look at the board outside (which only had one dish on it). I ordered the weekly lunch for a whopping 13.50. Namely a burger with fries. I then received a completely dry fried patty on the plate, without a bun or anything else (see photo) When I asked why a burger was just a patty, I was told that it was. Because back in the day, the very first burger in the world was just a patty (which is total nonsense) To the second question why it was so dry and not medium, the answer was that it would vary from house to house. Huh?

Excellent food, the burgers are highly recommended. The starters and desserts also taste very good. The conditions were very nice and extremely competent.

Since we were a larger group, we reserved a table. That worked wonderfully. There was also a small selection of dishes for vegetarians, which were perfectly priced. The orders and especially the drink orders often did not arrive at the same time despite being ordered at the same time. Meat eaters will definitely get their money's worth here.

The filet mignon is very tasty and was perfectly seared, just as requested. However, I found the portion of fries to be too small. The baguette is also delicious. We didn't have to wait long for the food. However, the busier the store became, the longer everything took. In the end it was just very loud and you couldn't have a normal conversation anymore. The toilets are clean. I would come again.

Highly Recommended. My first visit 6 weeks ago was a hit in all respects, the food was super fresh and delicious and the service was perfect from the first minute. My second visit on Thursday was exactly on the same level. You don't have something like that often. Big praise to the committed employees - this is real feel-good and experience gastronomy.

We were there spontaneously before going to the theater. We got a table by the window and were greeted warmly. The beer was nice and cold, as was the cola. The steaks were cooked just right and very tasty. All in all, it was a success, and the service was also very nice. Thank you for the nice start to the evening.

The steaks are unbeatable, simply delicious. This time we were served by Merisa...first-class service, which unfortunately is rarely experienced these days.

I'm a regular customer here when it comes to steak. Best steak with delicious side dishes that fill you up and as a starter a very tasty salad that tastes really fresh and is big enough. Everything ideal. Super nice waiters, really top service. Why I would actually only give 4 stars: Because it's often quite full and the shop isn't necessarily big, which is why you're a bit put off at first and think you'll have to wait a long time or you won't get a table at all. Well, the wait doesn't take very long, they always try to get you a table and that's why it's a full 5 stars!

In this restaurant they serve tartare without eggs. The waitress is pushing me hard to order something else.
