I was really craving a proper South Indian breakfast in Berlin, and I’m so glad I found Chettinad Restaurant in Spandau! The moment I walked in, the aroma of freshly made dosa and filter coffee took me straight back home. I ordered their Masala Dosa, the Breakfast Combo (Idli–Vada–Sambar), and of course, the classic Filter Coffee — everything was just perfect. The dosa was crisp and flavorful, the sambar had that authentic South Indian taste, and the coffee… rich, strong, and aromatic — just the way it should be! ☕️ What I really loved was not just the food, but also the warm hospitality and reasonable prices. The service is excellent, the staffs are very friendly. Taniya and Sam are super nice and their helpful. It’s rare to find such authentic flavors in Berlin, and Chettinad Restaurant absolutely delivers. If you’re missing home-style South Indian food or want to try something truly delicious, this place is a must-visit! 🙌✨

I visited there on special day where breakfast options are at low price.I ordered idli,dosa,combo and aloo puri all were very great... Medu wada had great taste. Chutneys were very tasty.

The service was amazing and the waiter was super friendly. However, the food was below average. Was charged one euro extra for sambar which didn’t make any sense to me. The dosa was super oily and really thin. Unfortunately, it will be a one time visit only.

Editing my review from 5 star to 1 , the last time I visited which is almost a year back food was great , felt authentic. This time food was terrible, probably the worst biriyani I had in Berlin . Biriyani rice was like kichdi rice . Chicken chilly was terribly sweet like payasam.

I had been looking forward to revisiting Chettinadu after some great past experiences with South Indian food, but this visit was a real disappointment. We started by asking for masala dosa, samosas, and chai. To my surprise, chai wasn’t available, which itself was a big letdown for a South Indian restaurant, so we settled for coffee instead. When the coffee arrived, the lady serving said, “Two cappuccinos?” I told her we ordered Indian coffee, not cappuccino, and she seemed confused, asking what the difference was. The guy who had taken the order said something like, “It’s not cappuccino; we’ve customized it to suit the Indian palate.” When we tasted it, it was unmistakably cappuccino. It felt like an attempt to trick customers into believing they were getting something else, which was very disappointing. The food didn’t help either. The masala dosa was limp, not crispy at all, almost like a piece of cloth. The samosas looked and tasted like frozen packets similar to the ones sold at the next door grocery store, Asia Might, which is actually owned by the restaurant, rather than freshly made. We wanted to order more items like Kerala parotta and beef, but then we were worried the parotta might also come from a frozen packet, so we refrained from ordering. Overall, this visit was far below the standards I remembered. Chettinadu has the potential to shine given its cuisine, but this experience left me frustrated and disappointed.

I wanted authentic food, and I got it. It was much better than expected. We indulged ourselves and put our cutlery aside. It was our first visit, but definitely not our last. We'd be happy to come back.

My husband and I coincidentally landed up at the Markt Halle (KalleHalle Neukölln) and since I was craving for some Indian food, I ordered at the Chettinad booth. This was ny first experience with this restaurant and it certainly won't be the last. I had the Kerala fish curry which, after 5 years in Berlin and multiple restaurant visits, finally hit the nail on the head with it's robust flavours, use of authentic spices and perfect balance of tangy and spicy. It reminded me of my mom's cooking and I immediately ditched the fork n spoon and dove straight in with my hands to devour this delicious meal!! The fact that I have no pictures of the food in itself is testimony enough that there was no time to waste!! The staff, including the chef were so warm and friendly, felt like I was back home in India. They were attentive, engaging and just extremely kind and accommodating. I tried the lunch menu and really enjoyed it! The food was tasty and good quality, and the service made the experience even better. The staff were always friendly—especially Tanya, who was very welcoming. Definitely a great spot for lunch!

The food is very very average and super overpriced. There are way better Indian and malayali restaurants in Berlin which actually give you value for money. Their service is horrible you order something they bring half and take another 15 mins to bring the other half. This is not ideal at all. Hope this review helps people around Berlin to find better food, service and ambience!

Good Indian restaurant with an enormously large (actually too large) menu. I wanted to try a dish that was listed as spicy because it was served with coconut milk. I requested less spicy when ordering, but it was still quite spicy, but bearable. The rice was a bit small, but since we were taking some of the food home anyway, it was fine. What took some getting used to was that the staff spoke poor German and kept switching to English. We noticed this when we made our reservation over the phone. I'm confident in my English, but that's not the case for everyone. So, the food was good, the staff friendly, the ambiance could be better; the space is more like a snack bar, but what's definitely missing are hotplates to keep the food warm. We had previously enjoyed a great breakfast here and were genuinely excited to return for lunch. Based on that positive experience, we even invited friends and traveled 30–40 minutes specifically to try their Kerala-style dishes. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a massive letdown. The food was bland, tasteless, and completely unrecognizable from what one would expect from South Indian cuisine. The so-called “roasted chicken curry” tasted like it was drowned in some generic Chinese-style sauce — absolutely no resemblance to Kerala flavors. The biryani was, without exaggeration, the worst I’ve ever had in my life. What’s even more frustrating is that there was no warning or mention that they didn’t have a South Indian chef that day or that the food would be prepared in a completely different style. If we had known, we would never have ordered, let alone invited guests or made the long trip. The restaurant’s name and menu suggest a South Indian specialty, but what we received was anything but. Totally misleading and deeply disappointing.

Great Spot for Affordable Breakfast, but Weekend Crowds Need Attention Our group of five visited this place over the weekend. It was super crowded, likely because of their very affordable breakfast menu. Despite the rush, the service was impressively fast, which we truly appreciated. However, managing such large weekend crowds could be improved—perhaps by having an extra waiter or two to ensure things run even more smoothly. It would make the experience even better for everyone. One thing that really stood out was the owner's openness to feedback. We shared a few suggestions, and to our surprise, they were actually implemented! It’s rare to see such responsiveness, and I truly appreciate the positive attitude. Overall, a wonderful experience, and we’re definitely looking forward to going back again!

If you're looking for authentic Indian-spiced cuisine, you'll find it here. If you're not up to the challenge of this intensity of spice, the milder dishes are also perfectly suited. In addition to the classic main courses, the authentic breakfast is also highly recommended. The frequent use of fresh ingredients, which are hard to come by outside of India, is a particular highlight here and, in contrast to other Indian restaurants in Germany, a definite plus. The authentic food, friendly service, and excellent advice from Taniya have made us regular customers.

First of all, general information about the restaurant: we come here regularly, even if the drive to Spandau takes about 30 minutes. If you're looking for a special Indian restaurant and like to try new things, this is the place for you. I especially like the South Indian (Kerala/Tamil Nadu) dishes. The staff are all very friendly and attentive. I'm regularly reminded to pay in cash, even when card payments are accepted (honestly, it's annoying. Who carries cash these days? It's better not to offer card payments). They often offer a weekend special with typical South Indian dishes, which I often choose from. Everything is very tasty, but I find the dishes (especially the specials) too expensive compared to the quantity and variety on the plate. We love the mango lassi and the lime juice (iced, typical Indian lime juice); drinks are a bit pricey, in my opinion. Due to the prices, we don't go there as often as we would like. The food is definitely outstanding.

Orders placed for home delivery aren't delivered in full; you're told they'll deliver more with your next order. The food at the restaurant is okay, but not great. Reviews are deleted...which looks like Nazi censorship.

We were there today and had chicken korma and chicken mango, along with mango lassi and bathura bread. Everything was soooo delicious! The chicken was so tender and the sauces were simply delicious! The service was very friendly and polite! The food came quite quickly, too. We were completely satisfied!

I ordered vegetable curry, choley masala, paneer 65; but received 2 chicken curries and paneer pakora. You can see the order details and the actual food in the picture. They had done the same mistake even months back when they sent chicken instead of a vegetarian dish.

I had taken food at this restaurant multiple times, Service was good and especially south Indian foods are tasty. Restaurant people are too good on the behavior and response on your order. I would like to mention specifically Taniya gives more attention to Customer in nice way and friendly manner.

I used to visit Chettinad yummy Kitchen from 2023. I always order their briyani. I am a big fan of their dum briyani. Out of few places in berlin that offers dum briyani Chettinad yummy Kitchen is good. Also I like their fish curry. Service is good and Tanya who works there is very friendly and asks our preferences for spice levels. I suggest to add more masala in briyani because I felt it mild as a south indian. If you are craving south indian food and in spandau you can visit them. In 2023 while I came new the taste was very good. Now it has got reduced a bit. Kindly look into it. Pls add parotta salna,kotthu parotta. Over all good . Can improve. Price is ok.

Highly recommended. We were also asked if we wanted it spicy, which was very nice. It was real Indian spiced curry and soooo delicious. The waitress was also very friendly. Thali was especially very impressive with the banana leaf plate. Many vegetarian options as well as special menus for children were also very good.

Our visit to Chettinad was a thoroughly enjoyable date experience. My companion and I enjoyed raita, butter naan, garlic naan, and dosa – all freshly prepared, perfectly balanced in flavor, and of the highest quality. The staff was attentive, friendly, and always present, without being intrusive. Particularly noteworthy is the authentic Indian ambience, which completely immersed us in another world for a moment. A true highlight for all lovers of South Indian cuisine – we would gladly return.

The Chettinad restaurant is simply fantastic! The Chicken Dum Biryani is incredibly spicy, aromatic, and tender. The Chicken 65 is also delicious, crispy, and perfectly seasoned. Anyone who loves Indian food should definitely stop by here!

A very nice atmosphere I felt like I was at home.

Today I ordered three kinda meals online like biryani n curry‘s. Quality is very bad n quantity is very less. Even not enough for a single person. They should increase the quantity according to the prices as well as the quality. They even don’t have raita n pickle for biryani. I was surprised by seeing these kinda service in Berlin. I am very shameful to share this experience.

Absolutely love the Mysore Masala Dosa! Just incredible. Honestly it was way better than Sarvana bhavana so totally recommend to come here and try the Dosa. Lemon soda was also very delicious. The staff was lovely and welcoming so all in all I definitely recommend this place!

We had to wait for very long for even ordering the food then it took even longer for them to bring it. A couple next to us came after us and they ordered, eat and left while we were still waiting for our last dish. The food was good, without a doubt but the service was disappointing.

I ordered from Lieferando. The naan was far from authentic, more like Turkish bread. The Chicken Jalfrezi tastes like Butter Chicken, with the only difference being Butter Chicken is slightly sweeter. Wouldn't recommend ordering from here as it’s nowhere near actual Indian restaurant.

We had an amazing experience at CHETTINAD !Every dish we tried was bursting with authentic South Indian flavour’s. The Lamb Biryani was perfectly spiced and fragrant, while the Chicken Vindaloo had just the right level of heat. The Chicken Chettinad stood out with its rich, aromatic masala. We also loved the Battura—crispy yet fluffy—and the Porotta, which was beautifully layered and soft. The Tofu Butter Masala was a great vegetarian option with a creamy, flavorful gravy. For drinks, the Mango Lassi was thick and refreshing, and the Kokos Banana Shake was a unique and delicious surprise. The highlight of our meal was the dessert—Kerala Parippu Payasam, an authentic pudding with the perfect balance of sweetness and texture. Overall, a fantastic place for anyone craving real South Indian cuisine in Berlin. We’ll definitely be back!

Worst service by the restaurant. We waited for 2 hours for the food to be delivered and then they still didn’t delivered it after stating that they will be deliver it. Looks like owner didnt care about the customers.

Since now they have beef and with Kerala style I think this place is amazing. If you are from south and eat spicy food please let them know. The food was great. It's could be a lil more spicy for me but Im not complaining.

Could give 0 stars if given option. On 28th september at 19:00 i ordered mysore masala dosa. First came normal masala dosa when i complained they changed to mysore with high spice that a normal human body cannot digest. Totally disappointed how can they serve to a human such spicy dosa. Never come to this place again. Another scam in same order. Ordered 4 heiniken beers. First 2 beers came good 330 ml When we ordered again they gave 250 ml beers instead 330 ml. While billing we asked for bill they charged same for all 4. When questioned the waitress acted she didnt know anything went away then asked informed us that they are now charging for 3 beers instead 4. We agreed then she insisted to pay with cash instead card because she didnt amend the bill. We refused to pay cash and paid jn card. Stop scamming your own people.

Stop cheating people by serving them food which doesn't look or taste like Indian at all. We ordered online, Mutton Rogan Josh, and they have added potatoes, beans, cauliflower, and paprika. What kind of Rogan josh you are serving. We ordered food looking into the ratings but, you don't deserve a single rating at all. Non Indians might be fond of eating your food, as they don't know how Indian food taste.

Recently, I visited this restaurant. The food was delicious, even better than homemade. My personal favorites were the Kovakkai Milagu Piratti and Parota. The ambiance was wonderful, the music added an extra layer to the experience and the service was exceptional.

This was great place, wonderful authentic South Indian food. The service was excellent and kind, they were very accommodating and I was able to change the rice to dosa in the vegan lunch thali. The only negative thing was that the dishes were very very oily which I think is a real problem. However, otherwise, tasty, fresh well cooked and delicious! The restaurant itself is beautiful. Highly recommend.

One of the authentic South Indian restaurant in Berlin. We had veg thali and fish thali, both were really good and filling. I had to loosen up my belt. Food was not oily and gave me the homemade touch. Prices are reasonable. Highly recommend this hidden gem. Waitress Tania was very friendly and welcomed us whole heartedly

A go-to place for those who are craving for Kerala food. Must try the Tattu dosa.

Very friendly staff, nice outdoor seats. Only downside is that it is just next to a Main Street, yet overall it was an excellent experience. I got a vegetarian plate as Sunday special offer: Astonishing how much variety they managed to put onto one plate, it was quite a firework of flavours and the design of each component was quite intricate. Clearly recommended!!!

Always delicious here! Friendly staff, the selection of vegetarian dishes is perfect! But meat eaters also have a good selection. The chicken is always buttery and tender. We really enjoy coming here because everything always tastes so good! We also love the Bathura 🤩.

The quality of the food was not good

Vegetarian/ eggeterian should stay away from this place. Whatever the biryani you order it comes with meat. Veg kottu was too oily and pepper. We got complimentary Dosa for biryani replacement and the dosa batter was sour. Overall our experience was bad. The owner/ bouncer did not even had courtesy to say sorry (may be he thought free dosa will do the job)

I ordered three dishes online at 8 p.m. The food had not been delivered by 10:30 p.m. I called three times. I thought it would start now. Where the food ended up, I have no idea. I'm really disappointed. You never had it delivered on time. After all, only bad experiences. Never again

The chicken biryani was flavorful and authentic Kerala style , and the beef thali was delicious with each part complementing the others perfectly. In 29th July we went to this restaurant and I particularly ordered Veg Tali. But they added Chicken fry along with Gobi 65 in Veg Tali. This is not at all acceptable. My friends ordered Chicken Tali and the quantity was very very less. This kind of Service is not acceptable. They said us that they have Tali and when we asked about this why the Chicken Tali was given in a small plate then they were saying we don’t have Tali plates. And to get those they made us wait for 2 hours. They have charged full amount for those Chicken Tali‘s. When we spoke about it and leaving the restaurant then they started saying sorry we will give more food and all. Which is not really acceptable.

Very bad.. ordered two chicken gravy... both tasted almost the same... tandoori chicken was dry to its bones, chicken was very very hard like the one we find in chicken pickel.... garlic naan was super thick like some bun

Very Very Very Poor Service.. it takes more than 45mins to get served and they say that the restaurant is crowded but there are hardly 4-5 tables occupied…. No one bothers to come and check neither… Extremely Poor Service and I would definitely recommend against coming to this Restaurant

The 1star rating is for the service. The food is great. Here’s my experience with timeline. 17:48 - Ordered on their website and received confirmation email 19:25 - Food didn’t arrive and called them. They said it’s some technical problem on their system and they received the order just now(which isn’t the case IMO). They told they would deliver the food in 45 mins. I accepted with disappointment. 20:40 - No food yet. Called them again and they said it’s still on the way. I finally ended my hopes that the food will be delivered and cooked some food. I regret ordering from their site. 20:50 - The delivery guy finally showed up and sent back the delivery with all due respect. I would recommend people to visit the restaurant and have food and not to order through their website.

Ordered food online, called after waiting for over an hour, the lady on the phone didn't understand German and hung up. 2nd attempt in English, after 5 minutes back and forth the information was that the driver had left 10 minutes ago. Food finally arrived after 25 minutes. The dish, which wasn't marked as spicy on the menu, burned your throat away. Conclusion for us......NEVER AGAIN!
