Chang Thai-Restaurant in Wuppertal

We visited the restaurant at 6:00 p.m. and had free choice of seating without a reservation. The atmosphere is rustic and cozy, the tables are quite close together, so you can't leave your seat without moving the table if the surrounding seats are occupied. The concept with the modular menu is interesting, but despite careful ordering (“no spiciness” or “least spiciness”), the dishes were already a little TOO SPICY for us. The pasta dish looked strangely thrown together. The taste of the food was still good. The Mango Lassi didn't really impress us with its consistency. We would also have liked the service staff to ask if there were any other requests - dessert or coffee were not offered. Unfortunately, paying was difficult as we had to ask several times. Overall, a solid restaurant with room for improvement. If you like spicy food, this is the place to eat.

More than recommended!!! The food is always very fresh and is absolutely true to Thai cuisine. You also feel very comfortable, the atmosphere is familiar and the service is a very friendly, courteous and warm person!

Highly recommended! We were there for the buffet on a Saturday lunchtime after the reopening and were very satisfied and, above all, very full. Unfortunately there weren't enough tables reserved for the buffet, but this was solved very well. Instead there was a buffet with all the dishes right at our table. The service was very friendly and every wish was fulfilled. We will definitely come back again!

We knew the restaurant from previous years where we enjoyed eating there and were excited about the new opening this evening. Unfortunately we were disappointed. Despite the freezing temperatures outside, the rooms were not heated, so I kept my coat on. My wonton soup didn't look very appealing and tasted bland. The Thai main course with beef was fibrous as if it had been cooked and was swimming in a coconut milk sauce diluted with water and the vegetables in it were indefinable. My husband's duck dish wasn't crispy, barely seasoned and didn't look very appetizing either. Too bad!!!

I had dinner here for the first time with my girlfriend today and we had a very nice evening. The restaurant owners were very friendly and gave us great service. I would also like to mention that the Pad Kra Pao was very, very tasty. The starter and our main courses were very authentically prepared. We were positively impressed by the quality and would be happy to come back again.

Das Chang Thai Restaurant hat seit dem 31.01.2025 wieder geöffnet und bietet wieder leckere authentische Thailändische und Philippinische Küche an. Sehr empfehlenswert.

We went to “all you can eat” last night with a pre-order. Meal for €24.95 per person. If only I had read the reviews beforehand! Everything that visitors have described over the last two weeks is 100% true. We were truly speechless and upset by this rip off!

We were there for the evening buffet on Saturday, February 22nd, 2025. The service was very friendly, what was offered from the kitchen was an outrage. The restaurant seems run down, starting with the furnishings and ending with the presentation of the food, which is a shame

Even one star is still too kind. We were there today and ordered our drinks and food relatively quickly. An hour later our refreshment finally arrived, no sign of the food. After 90 minutes when the restaurant wasn't full, we left like other guests before us. We have canceled the order. Absolute disaster. We'll never come back!!

The two of us went to Chang Thai for a lunch buffet today. We were greeted very friendly and asked if we wanted a drink, which was also served quickly. The Thai lunch buffet was great. There were spring rolls, a really delicious soup with meat and vegetables and then FIVE main courses. There was something for everyone, some things a little spicier, others well seasoned but mild. The fish curry in particular was terrific, with very juicy fish and large shrimp inside. Overall, all the dishes were really tasty. Finally there was pandan pudding. Slightly warm and very tasty. If we were in Wuppertal more often, this would definitely be a regular place. Thanks!

The restaurant has reopened, but the quality has suffered greatly. Many things were simply sold out and you couldn't order everything. When you reopen the store, you should plan better. There was no Thai beer, and there was no duck. There were just a lot of things that weren't on the menu. Overall it doesn't taste that good.

Unfortunately it's quite a failure, but with enough patience it's at least amusing to watch. The only service was nice, but completely overwhelmed. The food came after a wait of over two hours. It was tasty, but something that could have been prepared and then served within ten minutes. We sat directly at the checkout and were therefore able to see how almost every payment had to be completely re-recorded in a lengthy payment process (“what exactly did you have?”). While the only waitress was always busy busying himself with billing, other guests were already actively coming to the counter to order more drinks because there was no longer any service in the room. Occasionally, the chef's mother, who was apparently mentally confused or demented, wandered through the restaurant and caused confusion by serving drinks but not writing them down or trying to bring food to the tables by walking around individual tables to ask if the food was ordered there. After we had already eaten our starter, she asked us if we had already ordered. Some guests were only able to place their orders after half an hour, and we noticed from one table that not even the starter was served at a quarter past nine (when we arrived around half past seven). At some point, food was served to tables that had already left for some time to get their fill somewhere else. In summary: a completely overwhelmed service, a very slow kitchen, a confused temporary assistant and many dissatisfied guests. Unfortunately we probably won't come again.

Unfortunately, the new team is not comparable to its predecessor. Customers and corresponding drinks are forgotten. Eating takes a disproportionately long time. We arrived at 7:30pm and left at 9:15pm. With disappointment in my almost empty stomach (at least we got the starter) Yes. Empty stomach. When we announced we were leaving, the food was almost ready. We had it given to us “to go”. The next disappointment at home: the food that was ordered with "please never be spicy" was spicier than its counterpart, which was ordered with extra spicy. So inedible for me. We were so happy about the reopening, but we definitely won't be coming back. REVIEW FROM BEFORE 2025! We've been to Chang several times and it always tastes really good and fresh. We both eat vegetarian and actually always start with the veg. Spring rolls that are actually hand-rolled and freshly filled. They taste incredibly delicious. Be careful, risk of addiction. Then as a vegetarian you have a lot of choice, and the spiciness can be adjusted individually. Super tasty. In addition to all the delicious dishes, there is also a hostess who really lives her passion. Despite all the adverse circumstances, she is always friendly, has a little chat, checks whether everything is okay and makes you feel like you are actually and truly a welcome guest. That alone is priceless. While we're on the subject of price, here too: TOP. Price and performance are a great match. We would be happy to come back (or pick you up). Please keep it up and don't give up ♥

I'm really very sorry to have to write this. But I decided to do this because the old reviews don't correspond to the reality after the "re-opening". Unfortunately, I have never experienced such a poorly organized store. The evening we were there there wasn't a single table where the order worked. Either only parts of the food came or completely wrong dishes. And unfortunately - and this is perhaps even worse - the quality of the food has suffered. There were three dishes of crispy duck at our table and it was barely edible. I'm really sorry to have to write this. And still wish you only the best. But for that you really have to add something to it in terms of content and quality.

All of our food arrived correctly, but unfortunately not together, it took about 10 minutes until everyone had their food. We had four different main courses, with chicken, fish, beef and duck and all the food was tasty and corresponded to the expected quality, the starter plate for 4 people and the crab chips were very good and tasty. The food was the same as before, the same very good chef, unfortunately the service wasn't really good, you couldn't order drinks and they didn't ask for dessert either, there's still a lot of potential here. But of course you have to give the service team time until everything is running correctly, which is why only 4 stars

It was really nice there. We were there on the day there was a Filipino buffet. It was particularly tasty and authentic there. The waitress was also very nice.

It was a wonderful evening, with great food that you can put together using a small modular system. Whether duck, chicken, tofu... there is something for everyone - even vegans. You should be careful with the level of sharpness, which you can choose from in several levels or even forego it completely. But be careful: spicy also means spicy here! The absolute highlight, besides the great food, is the fantastic service! I've never experienced someone so attentive, courteous, with an incredible amount of tact and with a noticeably sincere warmth. This restaurant is an absolute insider tip!

Ein tolles Restaurant mit einer lieben Gastgeberin. Wir waren am Samstag zum ersten Mal dort, das Essen war super lecker und die Atmosphäre war auch super. Der Gastgeberin war es sehr wichtig, dass es ihren Gästen gut geht und führt das Restaurant mit sehr viel Liebe. Wir waren definitiv nicht zum letzten Mal dort.

Nette Gastgeberin, leckeres Essen und guter Service. Das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis ist super. Haben uns dort sehr wohl gefühlt und werden wieder kommen.

Good Thai and Filipino restaurant. We initially went to try the Buffet but we arrived at 14:30 and it is until 15 hrs, so the trays were almost all empty. So we ordered “a la carte”, we ordered a typical Pad Thai and to try we ordered a Curry and Coconut sauce dish with meat and white rice. Both dishes were good. Not the best Thai food we have eaten but good to try a new restaurant. The service is good and always looking if everything was ok. Nice atmosphere and attention.

Besseres thailändischen Essen gibt es nicht. Liebe Bedienung mega Essen. Alles super.

Ich war am 21.01.2017 mit zwei Freunden im Chang Thai. Einen Parkplatz mussten wir leider ein wenig suchen, aber dafür entschädigte das Essen diese 10 Minuten meines Lebens. Das Personal war wirklich sehr freundlich und beim Eintreten wurden wir schon sehr herzlich begrüßt. Ich war zwar noch nie in Thailand, aber genau so stelle ich mir das Essen dort vor. Ein Freund von mir hatte à la carte bestellt, mit Vorspeisen und Hauptspeise. Der andere Freund und ich hatten das Buffet. Dieses ist zwar nicht so umfangreich wie beim "0815 Chinesen um die Ecke", dafür aber wirklich sehr sehr lecker! Für den Preis von knapp 16€ wirklich gut. Leider muss ich bis zum Restaurant immer knapp 50 Minuten fahren, sonst wäre ich öfter mal dort.

Sehr schöner Laden & nette Betreiberin. Hier steht das Wohl des Gastes ganz oben. Nette Gespräche und sogar Tipps. Man wird beim Essen super beraten und das Essen ist dank der frischen Lebensmittel sehr gut. Im Abschluss noch eine nette Rechnung mit persönlichen Worten. Komme sehr gerne dort hin. Kann es nur empfehlen.

Sehr freundlicher und zuvorkommender Service und sehr leckeres Essen. Ein kleiner Abzug da leider nicht mehr alles vorhanden war, aber wir waren auch recht kurz vor der Schließzeit dort. Wir waren sehr zufrieden.

Eine kulinarische Reise nach Thailand. Wer die echte thailändische Küche liebt, für den ist dieses Restaurant ein Muss. Das Personal ist dazu auch sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend. Es ist mittlerweile unser Lieblings Lokal. Hier passt der Spruch: Du kommst als Gast und gehst als Freund. Alle Speisen kann man auch zum mitnehmen bestellen.

Leckere Gerichte. Das Essen schmeckt wirklich wie in Thailand. Super nette Mitarbeiter. Man fühlt sich kurzfristig wie im Urlaub auf den Philippinen oder in Thailand. Immer wieder gerne.

Das beste Thailändische Restaurant, in dem ich bisher gegessen habe! Das Ambiente ist sehr gemütlich und das Essen ist köstlich! Man schmeckt, dass alles frisch selbst zubereitet wird und es gibt eine große Vielfalt an thailändischen und philippinischen Gerichten. Auch die Frühlingsrollen werden von Hand zubereitet (nicht wie in den meisten chinesischen Restuarants) - ein Unterschied, den man schmeckt. Besonders hervorzuheben ist das nette und herzliche Team, ich fühle mich dort jedes Mal sehr wohl! Ein weiteres Plus ist, dass der Koch immer sehr flexibel auf alle Wünsche eingehen kann. Besonders gut geeignet für alle mit Allergien oder für Menschen die sich vegetarisch/vegan erhähren. Jedes der Gerichte ist auch als vegetairsche Option erhältlich. Ich kann dieses Restaurant auf jede Fall weiterempfehlen! Besonders lohnt sich auch ein Besuch des Buffets!

Sehr leckeres Essen und tolle Atmosphäre. Mitarbeiter sind hilfsbereit und super freundlich. Das Essen wird nach Absprache mit Kellnerin nach eigenen Wünsche zubereitet. Meine Tochter hat sofort was zum malen bekommen und war sehr begeistert. Das Lokal ist wirklich empfehlenswert!

Der freundliche Service und die gemütliche Atmosphäre sorgen für ein rundum gelungenes kulinarisches Erlebnis. Absolut empfehlenswert für alle, die die Aromen Thailands genießen möchten.

Wer die thailändische oder philippinische Küche mag, ist hier bestens aufgehoben. Aber auch Neulinge werden hier auf ihre Kosten kommen, da es genügend Empfehlungen des Hauses gibt. Das Essen ist sehr lecker und das Personal unglaublich herzlich und freundlich. Solch eine Freundlichkeit haben wir bisher kaum in einem anderen Lokal erlebt. Es war für uns ein toller Abend und auch wenn wir nicht aus Wuppertal kommen, werden wir definitiv wiederkommen! Nachtrag: Wir waren heute zum dritten Mal hier und es war einfach wieder ein toller Abend mit sehr leckerem Essen!

Wir haben hervorragend im Chang Thai gegessen und das Personal dort ist äußerst zuvorkommend, sehr aufmerksam und super freundlich :-) klare Empfehlung!

Freundliche Bedienung und schneller Service, es gibt Thai Gerichte und einige philippinische Speisen, insgesamt geschmacklich ok, leider aber auch nicht mehr.

Wir wollten mit Freunden ein leckeres ThaiEssen genießen. Unsere Idee war, wir bestellen unterschiedliche Gerichte und teilen sie. Als Vorspeise gab es einen Papayasalat für 11,50 Euro. Es war eine Handvoll Salat, wirklich wenig und es fehlte die typische Thaimarinade dazu. Zu wenig Fischsosse. Die verschiedenen Gerichte kamen auf großen Tellern und nicht in Töpfchen, wie es früher dort üblich war. Dadurch fiel das Teilen schwer und das Essen war schnell kalt. Das Massaman Curry war wässerig und fad. Mit ganzen Kartoffeln drin. Wir kannten es nur mit Kartoffelstückchen. Leider war es nicht Thai Style. Schade. Unsere Freunde leben in Thailand und können es gut beurteilen. Und wir reden nicht von Schärfe, sondern von Würze.

Wir waren heute zum ersten Mal hier essen und wirklich sehr zufrieden. Es gibt eine gute Auswahl verschiedener Speisen, zu denen man sich nicht nur aussuchen kann, welches Fleisch, welchen Fisch ob mit Tofu oder nur mit Gemüse man bestellen möchte, auch die Schärfe kann man bei vielen Gerichten individuell wählen. Das Service-Personal war sehr freundlich und aufmerksam, außerdem wird offenbar sehr auf Hygiene geachtet. Vor allem war aber unser Essen sehr lecker, das Gemüse frisch und nicht zu weich gegart. Wir kommen sicherlich gerne wieder.

Wir waren zum ersten Mal hier aufgrund der guten Bewertungen und wurden nicht enttäuscht. Das Essen war sehr lecker und (soweit ich das beurteilen kann) authentisch. Sehr freundliche und schnelle Bedienung, alles top! :)

Das Chang Thai. Die erste Wahl, wenn es um thailändische (u. Ä.) Küche im Bergischen geht. Mit den Inhabern beehrt ist dieses Restaurant selbst in Krisenzeiten ein beständiger Garant für Frische, Geschmack und zufriedene Gäste. Unser erstes unvergessliches Essen wird nicht das Letzte gewesen sein! Wir kommen wieder. Vielen lieben Dank für Ihre Gastroqualität!
