Cozy restaurant in Passau's old town with a classic ambience that offers delicious Indian dishes in various levels of spiciness. On our last visit (March 16th) we ate the Michi Lamb (🌶️) and the Chandni Mango Chicken Curry, both of which were very tasty and satisfying. Unfortunately, the veggie pakoras as a starter were a bit burnt. The service was attentive and since there was little going on that evening or at that time, everything went quickly.

Nice restaurant that I've been to several times. The food is good and the atmosphere is good too. The price may be a bit expensive for students, but it's worth it. It can get busy here, so make a reservation.

The Chandni is an Indian specialty restaurant near Passauer Römerplatz. If you use the west exit of the parking garage at Römerplatz, you are basically right in front of the entrance to Chandni, which is small but nice in an old vaulted cellar. “Namaste”, the waitress greets us very friendly and assigns us a pleasant table for two. The wine selection is good and sufficient with Indian as well as European wines. As a starter we have a delicious naan bread with garlic, which is served with two bowls of ginger and spicy vegetable pieces in oil, the like of which we have not eaten better in India. The fresh tomato soup is served with chili threads and also has a hearty but still pleasant spiciness. For the main course we choose “Chilli Chicken”, a chicken breast fillet fried with onions, tomatoes, garlic, peppers and ginger in a spicy chili sauce. Basmati rice is served with it. The second main course is “Murg Madras Curry”, a South Indian dish with chicken breast fillet and pineapple in a sweet and spicy curry sauce, also with basmati rice. Both dishes have the familiar Indian spiciness, but just enough to make it a pleasant, interesting treat for our Central European palate. The vegetables of the “chilli chicken” are served fresh and crunchy, while the pineapple pieces are drowned in the curry sauce, and come across as rather limp and overcooked, as they say in Bavaria. We've eaten better than that. The plates for the main courses are brought to the table very well warmed, but by the time the dishes are served, the plates are actually cold again. By the way, the main courses are not served at the same time. A circumstance that the waitress smiles away in a friendly manner. The New Delhi Gulab Jamun dessert is touted as warm, juicy milk balls with pistachio ice cream and salted caramel topping as a perfect combination of sweet, nutty and slightly salty. One can only agree with that, because it was a little exotic delicacy at the end. Unfortunately, the mango lassi is detracted from the fact that it contains two ice cubes, but is unfortunately served much too warm. This would have been delicious if it had been a little chilled. But it is still an ideal drink to temper the Indian spiciness of the dishes to suit our Central European palate. Overall, in the strictest sense, there is still some room for improvement, both in terms of service and the preparation of the food. What is definitely negative is the tight time limit of 2 hours, which we noticed unpleasantly when we reserved a table. This means that dinner quickly turns into a mere meal, especially if you eat several courses. We only finished eating about 10 minutes before the allotted time. A dinner with such tight time constraints is really not worth enjoying and this circumstance could actually deter you from visiting this restaurant again. Otherwise, the Chandni is definitely worth recommending.

One thing in advance, the food is delicious. But the service... 30 minutes until you are asked for the drinks is questionable. The food came an hour after entering the restaurant. And the place is super loud. Maybe it's due to the vault, but unfortunately you can hardly understand your own words, let alone those of your companion.

The Chandni. I got engaged to my wife here yesterday a year ago and before that we were here every now and then. Yesterday we were here again to celebrate and today I realized that I haven't left a review yet. Every visit was unique and the food was always great! But the waiters were all super nice and accommodating. There's really nothing that can be improved here and we'll be happy to come back here again and again in the future!

You could see people waving everywhere. Here the drink was forgotten, there the food was forgotten, there the change was forgotten and at the other end you waited for some time to place your order. Behind the counter there was loud and unpleasant talk about guests. The food wasn't convincing either - it was okay but not the experience you're used to from other Indians. Consequently, the 4.7 star rating does not reflect our impression.

I feel at home in the small, cozy guest room in the beautiful old town - especially when careless guests don't verbally express themselves too much ;-) For me, what is particularly beautiful and rare today is the continuity with which Josef Sahunta runs his restaurant, but also his social commitment to his old homeland. The time limit for reservations is a bit of a shame but very understandable. I'm already looking forward to the next time...

Beautiful vaulted ambience. The service is friendly and attentive. The beer is Weltenburger Hell. The dishes are excellent, the rice is served in a separate bowl so you can easily order another bowl. If you like Indian you will love it here and if you want to try Indian you should do it here. Since the restaurant is rather small and always busy, you should make a reservation.

I dined in with bunch of my friends a while ago. I ordered the Mutton Jalfrazi with a garlic nan. I was sharing the nan with a friend however the nan was so delicious that I had to order a second one. The spice level is authentically South Asian. I come from a South Asian background, so I was pleasantly surprised with that. Since most Asian restaurants I have seen here accommodate to the European palate. Also, you can level up or down in spice levels according to your taste which is nice. The waiting staff were extremely friendly and really attentive. If you like Indian food I would definitely recommend going to Chandni.

We were here for the first time and made a reservation as a precaution. The room makes a cozy impression, but because of the narrowness of the tables and the fact that it was full, it is very loud. The staff was very polite and we didn't have to wait long for our food. The lamb dish and chicken curry were excellent. The meat is very tender and the portions are sufficient. It was really worth it.

First the positive: The atmosphere in the restaurant is nice and cozy. The old building flair with its vaulted arches and curry-colored walls is impressive. The staff is nice and friendly. The food tastes good and the prices are okay. Negative: We also ordered Nan bread with our main courses. Unfortunately, this seemed to have been forgotten, even though we were among the first guests in the restaurant and there really wasn't much going on yet. We also had to repeatedly request the drinks we ordered, otherwise we wouldn't have gotten anything. Actually a no-go!

Very nice and cozy Indian restaurant in Passau. I tried Kashmiri Lamb, and it was very nice (and also authentic Indian Level spicy). The atmosphere is also very nice, with friendly waiters. Suggestion: please make better naans, I was sort of disappointmented with the garlic Naan, it was more of a European bread. All in all, I would highly recommend this place.

Das Chandni ist ein sehr authentisches Restaurant schön ruhig gelegen mit Möglichkeit draußen zu sitzen. Die Bedienungen sind sehr freundlich und auch relativ schnell. Das Essen schmeckt auch gut, die Auswahl ist aber leider ein bisschen wenig. Preislich ist es in Ordnung.

Es ist ein sehr schön eingerichtetes Lokal mit freundlicher Bedienung. Kleiner Aussenbereich ist vorhanden. Von hier hat man einen schönen Blick auf das Oberhaus. Leider haben uns die Speisen nicht voll überzeugt, hier ist noch Luft nach oben.

Mein Sohn und ich haben heute wunderbar gegessen. Wir hatten reserviert, was auch zu empfehlen ist. Heute war um 18:30 Uhr alles voll. Bedienung super freundlich, schnell und sehr bemüht. Unsere Speisen waren frisch, wunderbar gewürzt und nett angerichtet. Wir waren sehr zufrieden und kommen gerne wieder.
