Cay Tre Restaurant in Bonn

I came across this restaurant by chance and I am completely amazed. I love Vietnamese food and it is particularly good here. The food is fresh and there are many vegetarian and vegan options. The service was quick and friendly. Overall, highly recommended.

Overall, the restaurant is recommended - there are better and worse Vietnamese restaurants in Bonn. Unfortunately, the summer rolls on the appetizer plate stuck together so badly that they had to be cut apart so that they wouldn't open when separated. But the main courses were excellent.

Honestly: a complete disappointment. The food was simply bad, for example I ordered a "creamy" coconut curry, what came was a watery, inedible mush. My wife also had an inedible dish. We were surprised that the food arrived after what felt like 2 minutes, which is never a good sign. When I brought up the bad food when paying, there was no apology or effort of any kind to salvage the situation. So after what felt like 15 minutes we were back outside, the food remained. Too bad!

I ordered from you yesterday via uber eats and didn't think the food was good for the prices quoted. Very bland. The noodles were in a tasteless curry mash with a few vegetables and meat. But what shocks me the most is that the price quoted for the noodles at uber eats is about twice as much as what you get in your restaurant! (see photo) Is it still okay? I can understand that you have to compensate for the fees (although as a customer you already pay extra via uber eats €4 delivery + €2 service), but please not to this extent. It would be nice if you please take a look at it again and adjust your pricing because it really makes you feel very shitty. For 10€ like in your restaurant you can ignore the boring taste because the portion size was right, but charging 20€ for delivery is simply extortionate. Too bad

All in all, it's really great and tasty. Ambiance was very cozy. Unfortunately there are no chairs inside (downstairs) but benches. So if you have back problems you should take a seat against the wall. The food was delicious. Very diverse. The papaya salad wasn't quite to our taste. The “Tom Chien” was very tasty. Just like the noodle dish “Mien Xao” and the rice dish “Teriyaki Salmon”. However, a bit too many onions for my taste. The staff was very friendly and what you don't eat you can take home with you

This Vietnamese restaurant, which is extremely cozy, offers a huge number of vegetarian dishes. I ordered spicy (wok-cooked) vegetables with tofu, COM SA OT, which tasted really delicate. This dish consists of Broccoli, mushrooms. Carrots, zucchini, lemongrass, chili, onions, bean sprouts and coriander. The broccoli was still really crunchy. However, the rice side dish was quite poor - in complete contrast to the really large portion of COM SA OT. For drinks I had a large pineapple spritzer and a delicious jasmine tea. The service was friendly, courteous and quick. This Vietnamese restaurant on charming Friedrichstrasse is definitely worth a visit.

I come here regularly - highly recommended. I can highly recommend the summer rolls, the pho soups, the curry with rice and the glass noodles with lukewarm coconut sauce. Both the tofu is very tasty, as is the beef + beef broth

Very friendly and courteous staff. The seating is rather spartan and the terrace is under a tent. The toilets could be cleaner. The food is very tasty!

Uncomplicated Asian with delicious and reasonably priced food.

Unfortunately we found the food very bland. We had 4 pasta dishes and all of them were way too dry and honestly didn't taste like anything. However, the wine selection is good. ;) Unfortunately the only positive thing.

Food wasn’t authentic and good at all. Flavours of very different dishes were the same … some curry mixture that doesn’t resemble Vietnamese cuisine. The spring rolls weren’t filled rich and the cocktails didn’t contain alcohol.

If you're very hungry, you'll definitely get full here. There are large portions that are also pleasing to the eye. In terms of taste, however, I find it to be rather mixed. However, the homemade lemonades are very tasty.

Were in Bonn today and decided on the Cay Tre restaurant because we liked the daily menu. A wise decision, nice, friendly service staff and very tasty, well-prepared food and drinks and at unusually low prices. I can really recommend the restaurant. We will definitely be happy to come back.

Delicious food, but my soy intolerance was simply ignored, which is not possible. On the allergen menu it said that there was no soy in it and I asked again if it was soy-free, which I was told was yes. In the end I got something with tofu and when I explained that unfortunately I couldn't eat it for health reasons, the tofu was apparently just taken away in the kitchen and the same thing was given to me again instead of preparing the food again. Unfortunately, I'm now sitting at home with severe stomach cramps and diarrhea.

Simply amazing! I was for vacation in Vietnam and i loved so much the food! I chose cay tre and bring me all the great memories, felt like i was in Vietnam. Food was soooo delicious and portions so big!!! Even though i loved it, i could not finish. Noodles and meat dish is for 2 people. I totally recommend the place

Big portions of food, everything very tasty!

So the food was really tasty! It was super quick, we didn't wait long. The waitress looked after us very kindly and took great care of us. What wasn't so good: The "young" boss, who at the beginning walked around the restaurant totally annoyed and "mumbled" at us because we had a reservation and didn't explicitly reserve for outside...

Family friendliness, especially for small children, could still be worked on. There was a high chair, but the buckle for the straps was broken so my child could not be secured. There was no other high chair. In the end we didn't eat there.

Food was very tasty, service was also very good

We were surprised by the fast and friendly service. The food came promptly and was fresh and hot. In our opinion, it wasn't seasoned enough or lacked the "pepp" or "wow" taste. Still, everything we had was delicious and we would come back. When it comes to ambience, Friedrichstrasse has its own special flair.

Allergy sufferers beware: Even if it's not on the menu, there are peanuts in practically everything! The menu says: 2 summer rolls for 5€ but you only get ONE, which is cut into 2 parts, previously there were really 2 rolls. Bitter. The place used to be much better, but unfortunately the prices are rising and the portions are getting smaller. Very unfortunate. It's a real shame, I have previously recommended the store without reservation, but definitely not anymore.

We were here for the first time today and were really excited! Very friendly service, very, very tasty food and we didn't have to wait long, despite the fact that it was very busy on a Saturday. We'd love to come back! :-)

Good restaurant with outdoor dining

A discovery, by chance, eaten there once, and of course eaten there again a week later, becomes a regular restaurant in Bonn.

Unfortunately very poor service and not customer oriented! We wanted to have something to eat for two on a Wednesday afternoon. The terrace was hardly occupied, there were around 10 tables free. However, the only free tables for two were right next to tables where people smoked. Since I'm pregnant, we asked the waiter if we could sit at a table for 4 a little further away (and also told her that I was pregnant!). The table could have easily been pulled apart within 2 seconds as it was just two small tables pushed together. But after she asked the other waiter, this wasn't possible and he just shook his head and laughed. We then left because, as a pregnant woman, I don't sit down at a distance of just 40 cm from the smoking table next door. This is how you scare away guests!

Extremely unfriendly staff. When politely asked whether the food for the fifth person at the table had perhaps been forgotten, the impudent answer came: “Don’t stress!” When asked about it when leaving the restaurant, they said it wasn't his problem, but that of the kitchen. We forego further experiences.

Unfortunately the sea bream was very dry and not seasoned.... Maybe next time it will be better..... Well, so-so...

Disappointing. Lots of vegetables, but already pre-cooked when they go into the wok. At around 9:20 p.m. chairs are stacked and the bill comes automatically, even if you are still eating. Service correct, but not particularly friendly. A pity.

It was my first contact with Vietnamese food. It was delicious and my concerns about whether I would like it were unfounded. Many flavors combined and balanced. It takes a while to get through the menu, but the dishes are well explained. The portions are large and the prices are reasonable. We'll definitely come back and keep trying... 👍

Food was good. Price was okay too. Service also very friendly. We were lucky that it was relatively empty so we had the table to ourselves. The partitions on the table were very reminiscent of the Corona era and I wouldn't want to sit that tight. But we said

Nothing special....just your average Vietnamese food....it is delicious, in the city center and offers the variety of food you know from other Vietnamese restaurants. Is good to stop and grab a bite if u feel like a little bit of a healthier food.

Phew, difficult. The food was excellent, value for money was top. The meat is always very good with the sauce, and there are also delicious vegetables underneath. Can only be recommended The 3 stars are because we had difficult situations with a male waiter twice. In the winter we sat at the door and asked if we could lean it a little further because we were cold, and he yelled at us that he had to serve. The other day we ordered drinks one after the other by chance and without intention. When he brought the third drink, we were yelled at that we weren't being served anymore, and the female waiter arrived confused as to whether we had ordered the bill (which we haven't yet). The female conditions are super nice, but this one always spoils the experience a little. But otherwise good

Update 5/13/24 Unfortunately very negative feedback today The man in the serving team was very unfriendly. At the end we were indirectly asked to leave. Probably because we ordered three drinks in a row. Too bad so not good. Even the waitress at our table was embarrassed. eat good Very tasty right in the city center Unfortunately, the guests at the next table were shouted at by the waitress when they closed the door because it was cold. That's a no-go.

ABSOLUTELY RUDE WAITER!!! Today's visit to a restaurant with my wife was the most unpleasant one I have ever experienced. It started when I was given a large passion fruit spritzer with tap water instead of sparkling water; I could have ignored the lack of ice in the room-temperature drink. However, I decided (unfortunately) to speak to the young Asian waiter in black in a friendly manner. He reacted angrily, but offered to pour some sparkling water into it. He didn't offer a new drink, and I didn't ask for one either, for the sake of peace (he seemed personally offended). The impression that he was personally attacked was radically confirmed when he put away pillows, looked at me grimly as I passed, turned away and said quietly but clearly audibly "Arse...". Completely irritated, I looked at my equally irritated wife, who said she had heard the same thing. After a short thinking time of 5 seconds, I asked the waiter what he had just said. He replied that he had brought me a new drink, but I hadn't asked for it. You might think there was a misunderstanding due to a language barrier, but the man spoke German quite well. I became more specific about why he called me an “a...hole” and whether he felt personally attacked because of my drink complaint. He became visibly nervous and began to stammer, especially when his superior intervened, but he couldn't help solve the problem and just tried to calm me down. Since the waiter was only tangled up in fragments of words, and I also wanted to eat something (and I didn't want to have the chef responsible for my food against me, food has something to do with trust), I left it without clarification or even Sorry be good. However, the mood was finally gone, the nice neighbor at the table on the left, qwasi on my lap, couldn't save anything. At least she got the right dish. I received the daily special number 64 with tofu instead of the chicken I specifically ordered. (My vegetarian neighbor on the right later received his summer rolls with the exact opposite meat, but at least a thrown out “sorry” and a new meal). The dish was plentiful, a bit dry but seasoned passably. I probably wouldn't have appreciated a perfectly prepared meal after this truly devastating experience. This mixture of eating out, lower-class TV and escape room could be described as a form of experience gastronomy, but it's not my case. That's why I only give it one star.

In total nice Vietnamese food for a fair price. The spring roll was good. The portion is quiet big and the service is quick and easy going.

Food: coconut curry extended with water, which was more like a soup. Far too little rice, three pieces of beef. The rice that was subsequently ordered was also included on the bill. It used to be good here - unfortunately only one star...

Unfortunately I only have to give it 1 because the service was fruitful... especially from a young man who served this evening. He was not nice to our table, admonishing us to come and order quickly and also to finish early because they would close at 9:30pm on a Saturday, even though our food wasn't ready and arrived late. Very rude and unwelcome. Not recommended if he serves!

Considering the high score reviews I have to say I was very disappointed with the beef phò here, the least flavoursome or spicy I have had. I needed to add 3 big squirts of chilli sauce to get any heat in this broth. The beef was good but the usual condiments you expect were absent. Spring rolls are good.

Given the circumstances, I will definitely not recommend this restaurant and have no hesitation in using my personal contacts for this!

Food was ok and arrived quickly. Cutting discs from the pandemic still on the tables. Creates a strange atmosphere and brings back stupid memories. Card payments only start with a minimum amount, which you can hardly reach on your own. Nobody can say why.

The food order was initially forgotten for over 20 minutes - when asked by another waitress, the Pho soups we ordered came - neither extra spicy as expressly ordered, only lukewarm and salty, and no drinks ordered (for which the waitress at least apologized when paying) . updated review: in the past few years, cay tre has significantly improved its service while maintaining a high quality in their food. one of my favourite vietnamese restaurants ! ——— food and drink are always very good. portion sizes are appropriate, vegan options are available and good. atmosphere is nice and casual. all other aspects are inconsistent. definitely recommend for small groups (dates, etc), as service tends to be very quick. however, if you're in a big group, expect very VERY long waiting times for the food (~1 hour). staff is also inconsistent. sometimes incredibly friendly and efficient, other times slow and forget orders (again, i've experienced the former in a small group and the latter in bigger groups). all in all, a great place for small groups, but not for larger ones.

Absolutely solid restaurant! Eat: ***** Service: **** Ambiance: *** Price: **** It was my first time there, I ordered the Com xa ot and my companion ordered the Mix Plate. The portions are a good size and I was quite full without a starter (183 cm 115 kg). The taste really surprised me. It was a dinner dance. If I really like something, I start dancing while sitting for joy. The vegetables were cooked nice and crunchy and not soft, the rice was nice and sticky so you could eat it with chopsticks and the sauce had a nice, intense flavor. Visually it was also nicely presented (see other reviews). The service is, as I have already experienced it in other Asian-run restaurants, a little different than usual, but as friendly as usual. The ambience is nothing special, but not super uncomfortable either. I definitely think the prices are okay too. approx. €37 for 2 main courses, 1 homemade soda and 1 Coke 0.3l

Essen in Ordnung, kein Highlight. Service leider nicht gastorientiert… wir kamen um 20:45 und bestellten direkt Vorspeise - Dessert, weil die Küche um 21 Uhr schließt. Um 21:30 wollten wir zu unserem Essen noch etwas trinken, da hiess es die Theke ist schon sauber, wir bekommen nichts mehr. „Netterweise“ durften wir noch ein Leitungswasser haben… Scheinbar haben sie den Umsatz nicht nötig. Um 21:55 mussten wir, als grad der letzte Löffel aufgegessen war gehen. Ich habe Verständnis für Öffnungszeiten, aber wenn man keine 10 min Spielraum hat, darf man meiner Meinung nach so spät (?) keine Bestellungen mehr annehmen. Wir haben immerhin fast 100€ bezahlt um uns total unwohl zu fühlen 😐 Schade..

Leckeres Essen und schöne Atmosphäre.

The tofu curry at Cây Tre was excellent! The two of us stopped in for dinner without a reservation and were very pleased to get a table upstairs immediately in this crowded restaurant. Service as fast and friendly. People were sitting outside in a heated tent (smoking cigarettes). We had wine and beer with our meal.

Schön gelegenes Restaurant in der Friedrichstraße, Speisen ausgesucht - bestellt und die gut aussenden Teller kamen. Leider stellte der Service die Teller hin - das wars, kein Guten Appetit o.ä. Die Gerichte waren geschmacklich nicht überzeugend, kaum gewürzt, schade eigendlich.

Sehr gute Karte, gute Portionen, geschmacklich war unser Essen Top, Essenspreise gut, leider wie fast überall sind die Getränke überteuert, wir können es trotzdem empfehlen

This is the best Vietnamese restaurant I've been to so far. I came back for a second time one week after my first visit! The food is amazing - they still use sugar, but it's not as overly sweet as in some other places. This goes for the lemonade too. The tofu starter is wonderful, too. The tofu is super fresh! Finally, it's rather inexpensive for the quality of the food.

Sehr leckeres Essen und freundliche Bedienung

Vorab: die 74 mit Ente (Kokos Curry) ist wirklich gut. Allerdings waren mein letzten Besuche nicht Zufriedenstellend. Wann immer ich ein neues Gericht ausprobieren (z. B. Mango Curry), empfinde ich es als sehr künstlich und nicht schmackhaft. Heute habe ich 3x die 74 zum Mitnehmen bestellt. Darauf kam die Frage, ob ich 7x die 3 und 4 habe wolle. Darauf hin habe ich meine Bestellung nochmal laut wiederholt und wurde aufgefordert zu warten. Da es im Lokal voll war, musste ich leider draußen warten. Erhalten habe ich dann nicht das Curry mit Ente, sondern ein vegetarisches Gericht was unfassbar scharf und damit leider nicht genießbar ist. Wir haben das Gericht nicht essen können, was letztlich Anlass für diese Bewertung ist. Das nächste Mal würde ich wenn überhaupt über Lieferando bestellen, da scheinbar das Sprach-Verständnis fehlt. Sehr schade.

Das war jetzt das letzte mal das wir dort waren!!! Das Hühnchen war komplett übersalzen. Allgemein die Qualität hat sehr stark nachgelassen. Auf die Frage, ob sie uns dann Essen einpacken könnten, war in erster Sicht kein Problem. Beim Verlassen fragte ich, ob die Suppe ,was mein Sohn gegessen hat ,eingepackt wurde. Uns wurde sehr unfreundlich mitgeteilt, dass er es nicht wollte. Dabei habe ich am Tisch noch gesagt, dass alles eingepackt werden soll. Als wir uns umdrehten und aus der Tür gehen wollten, haben wir auf deren Sprache einen Ausdruck mitbekommen. Wir sind ja nicht blöd und verstehen alles !
