Carls Brauhaus in Stuttgart

I went to Carls Brauhaus and ordered the 220-gram beef steak. However, there was significantly less on my plate—in my opinion, no more than 100 grams. The photo clearly shows how small the portion actually was. While the meat tasted fine, the quantity simply didn't match what was listed on the menu. It's a shame, because I would have expected more transparency and honesty from a well-known restaurant like Carls Brauhaus.

Nice place and very busy, which is always a good sign. Food was good, staff were friendly and helpful. Felt a bit rushed off the table after eating but like I said, it was very busy.

Nice location, especially in summer when you can sit outside. The food is hearty, typical of a brewery. However, I got the impression that they were very focused on high turnover.

The restaurant offers a wide selection of food and drinks. The decor is nicely designed, but it's very noisy due to its size. During our visit on Thursday, it was very busy, and some orders arrived very late (20 minutes for an espresso). Overall, however, I can highly recommend Carls Brauhaus, especially for larger groups.

There were four of us for dinner, the food was okay, but we would especially like to highlight the excellent and efficient service from the server Maria.

The restaurant is very large, has a great atmosphere, and is very friendly. The Schweinshaxe here is among the best in all of Germany, and it's incredibly delicious. The beer is also excellent.

I went to the restaurant on Sunday at 12:30 and got a table right away. Considering how busy it was, I ordered and received my food within 15 minutes, which was fantastic. The service was very friendly, but unfortunately, the food was only medium-rare. It wasn't bad, but the quality didn't impress me. The Spätzle tasted like they came straight from the supermarket. For the price, the meal wasn't worth it, and I was still hungry afterward.

Great restaurant for a visit to Stuttgart. Brewery atmosphere and a wonderful ambiance. The food was delicious. Even with eight people, getting a lunch table without a reservation was no problem. We'll definitely be back.

The fried Schweinshaxe skin was incredibly chewy. I ordered half and was full. I took a bite and dipped it in ketchup. The wait to pay was quite long, but the staff was friendly.

NEW - Update October 29, 2025: Who would have thought it? Five months later, and I'm already annoyed about this unpleasant experience again. Guess what! My original review was reported as "defamation" so Google would remove it. I wonder who did that? Really hard to guess, right? 🤔 I'm glad Google reinstated my review after I appealed, described the whole incident, and provided my evidence. Shame on anyone who claims I'm lying! Telling the truth isn't defamation. This behavior is underhanded and absolutely unacceptable. Because of this outrageous action, I'm now changing my rating to 1 star. Please also read the other reviews. My experience of being secretly charged a tip without my consent is apparently not an isolated incident. Original review: The food was okay, and the service was quite attentive. BUT – the fact that over 13% was added as a tip without my consent and without showing me the bill beforehand is absolutely not cool, guys.

Carls Brewery in Stuttgart is a very inviting and lively place, perfect for convivial evenings. The atmosphere is consistently vibrant and contributes to a great mood. The culinary offerings are impressive across the board: the traditional Swabian food is a true delight. This is complemented by the delicious beer from their own brewery. The staff deserves special mention; they are very witty and friendly and provide excellent service. The venue is highly recommended, especially for large groups, who will easily find ample space. Parking is also conveniently arranged thanks to two secure underground parking garages nearby. Carls Brewery is an excellent choice for lovers of Swabian cuisine and good beer.

You should definitely make a reservation. The food is delicious. The meat was cooked perfectly, even though the restaurant was full. There's plenty of room for guests; it's essentially one large space. The noise level can be quite high at times. Great atmosphere.

OK, beer not special, food mid-quality, the young man showed me to a stool woth a low cocktail table because the place obviously doesn't like single people with 30-40€ bills so shove them to the side. Modern, nothing German brewery house about it. Try somewhere else.

This spot in schlossplatz is a great place to grab a drink and get a schnitezel. They have also added a good number of vegetarian options, including veg maultauschen.

The location is beautiful, especially on a sunny day, but that is the best part of the experience. The service felt rushed, as if the staff were eager to clear tables rather than let guests relax. When I asked for seconds, it took an unexpectedly long time to arrive. The food was plain and underwhelming for the price. The “Big Breakfast (Schlossplatz)” wasn’t particularly big and didn’t feel like good value. For the price paid, I would have expected more substance and better service.

I had pork roast. It was delicious. I would have preferred a piece of meat and a second dumpling instead.

A typical brewhouse restaurant with all your popular Schwabish favorites. Good location and reliably decent food and beer. Nice place to take visitors or have small events with friends.

We discovered this restaurant while walking around town. We received a friendly welcome and were immediately seated at a table overlooking the Schlossplatz. Our order was taken quickly, and our drinks were served shortly thereafter. The food—down-to-earth dishes typical of the region—was of decent quality and quantity.

Great location, good beer, and decent food. We had the steak and it was good but overcooked. Caesar salad was not great but wondering if it’s just different than we’re used to in Canada.

Typical atmosphere. Our table wasn't immediately available, and they were kind enough to serve us a beer—excellent—to while away the wait in a friendly atmosphere. I had an excellent pulled pork burger with fries; it was just a little too dry, but very tasty. Attentive and friendly service. Overall, a great experience.

First night in Stuttgart and found Carl's Brewery, excellent service from Dimi with delicious recommendations for beer and food. We had 1/2 glazed ham hock and weiner schnitzel with potato salad. Draft beer was flavorful and very drinkable Dinkelacker Pils and Dinkelacker Privet. Amazingly my husband had space for dessert hausgemachter ofenschlupfer, which is very much like a bread and butter pudding incredible. Thank you, no photos as too busy eating and drinking.

A superb restaurant. The staff goes above and beyond to accommodate their guests' wishes. Vegan is no problem. Even as a gluten-free eater with intolerance, I got my money's worth without any problems. Wheelchair users are welcome. When even the cleaner whistles a tune by the restrooms downstairs, you know the working atmosphere here is good.

A very stylish brewery with delicious food and drinks. It's best to reserve a table, otherwise you'll have to wait a bit. There are seating options both inside and outside. It's naturally very loud inside, and you can barely hear yourself. Highly recommended nonetheless. Very friendly staff.

The breading on the schnitzel was clearly burnt in several places. Due to lack of time, I didn't send it back, but removed the breading myself. When I politely voiced my complaint at the checkout, I received only a curt "Sorry"—no discount or any other form of compensation. I will avoid Carls Brauhaus in the future.

Whenever we go shopping in Stuttgart, we always end our trip with a meal at Carl's Brauhaus. It had been a while since our last visit. We were all the more pleased that we were lucky enough to get a table for two on a Saturday evening. Larger groups ahead of us had to be turned away. The ambiance is truly lovely. The atmosphere in the brewery was good and convivial. Our waiter deserves special praise, as he served us quickly and friendly. Unfortunately, I must admit that I was disappointed with the food itself. My wife's "Schwabenteller" (Swabian plate) was good and plentiful. I had the "Wiener Schnitzel" and a side salad. The salad, for €6, was particularly disappointing in its quantity and consisted of one large leaf. My two Wiener Schnitzels were also smaller than the one on my wife's plate. My potato salad, unfortunately, was beyond praise. I've even had cheaper and much better experiences in faraway Munich recently. Of course, I'm aware that the quality is good for the brewery's location. The restrooms are run by a cleaning team, so they're top-notch. Tips for the ladies are expected. All in all, it was a lovely end to our visit to Stuttgart, and we'll definitely be back.

My partner and I stumbled upon this place during a spontaneous shopping trip in Stuttgart. There were two of us without a reservation. We had to wait about 10 minutes for a free table, which we shared with two other hungry people. The food was very tasty; the soup could have been a bit more seasoned, but otherwise it was delicious. We only had to wait 10 minutes for our food. It's a bit difficult to have a relaxed meal here because of the high level of noise. But I still recommend it.

Perfect german food experience, a place for having a big proper meal. I recommend taking half knuckle which is delicious (and enough quantity) and then combine it with a starter, the soup of the day was great too!

Home-style brewery with decent service

We waited 20 minutes to place our order. But at least it was quick. Service was friendly, and prices were reasonable for Stuttgart's center. A vegan burger cost €16.80.

We were there for a business lunch at this quaint restaurant. Extremely friendly and competent service. Down-to-earth yet refined cuisine, short wait times, and large portions. The price is reasonable.

Achmed was our waiter and the best on the terrace. The service was excellent, despite the full house. The food was also excellent—what more could you want? The highest praise for the Brandenburger is (you can't complain).

The food was decently average. At €16.50, the love shown for the Maultaschen (ravioli) and the unconvincingly standard sauce was somewhat lacking. I expected more from a brewery, especially in terms of garnish. The fast food is good, but unfortunately not enough for 5 stars. Especially since the wines are rather expensive, apart from the red Lemberger.

We went to eat at the brewery at 3 p.m. on a Sunday afternoon. The lady at reception, who seemed rather reserved, gave us a table for the two of us for a maximum of one hour. We had the feeling that because of the suitcases we were carrying, they assumed we were just looking for somewhere to sit and pass the time, but we were wrong. We would have liked to have stayed longer and not ended up in mass processing mode. The other waiters were okay, young waiters, I think they were students. The food was thrown onto the table quite briskly, making it clatter, including by the middle-aged lady in question. The atmosphere was more like a beer hall. The food was okay but not outstanding, the meat was too tough (e.g. roast pork), it could be done much better. The price is okay.

I had a good meal. The atmosphere, due to the large room and the large number of people, and the resulting noise, wasn't so pleasant.

The food is good swabian fare. But be careful if you speak with an American accent (as I do although I’m French) : the waiter knelt next to me with the check, told me tips were not included, then proceeded to up my - generous - five euros to round out the bill. Also, I’m pretty sure I didn’t get the combo maultaschen if asked for. Nothing I couldn’t have stopped if I’d been less tired and more on guard. This is despicable - and hopefully limited to one person!

Update. I was there again. The reception was a shame. The table was unfortunately not clean. The Brauhaus schnitzel was subject to the general decline, but this time with lemon. The side dishes and salad were still significantly inferior. The Brauhaus fries (2-3 pieces?) had a tough texture, and the mixed salad consisted only of leaf lettuce, mostly butterhead lettuce. The drink prices were still too high for a brewery restaurant. The ambiance was nice.
