This place was not on my "want to go" list, but it was a total success. Alte Kanzlei is a German restaurant with touches of haute cuisine, but without breaking the bank. They have two terraces, because the place faces two streets, so you can choose the one that best suits you to enjoy the atmosphere. The service was fast, although at checkout it was the only place in Germany where they asked me if I wanted to leave a tip. And of course, how to refuse after that? I always fall. We were three people and we ordered maultaschen (a pasta filled with broth), kartoffelsalat (potato salad), rostbraten (grilled roast beef) with potatoes and a dish of the day which was pork in a sweet chili sauce with a colorful salad. To drink: a glass of Riesling, a Pilsner beer, a Coca-Cola Zero, and then a cappuccino and a green tea to wash down the meal. Total: €91.80.

There was a piece of plastic from the potato salad bucket in my food (which I didn't even order)... It also had pretty sharp edges. The waiter responded to my comment with "ugh, again". That says a lot. The manager was unimpressed, said "it can happen" and no one apologized. Never again. The food was VERY mediocre. I I definitely wouldn't take the risk of choking on a piece of plastic again.

I guess this is self-service place since nobody is coming to me. But then the prices are insane for this kind of place. Anyway, the service is terrible (basically there is no service)

At the time of our visit to the old office, the wine village (wine festival) was right next door. The restaurant was busy, but the waiting time for food and drinks was ok. The food was very good and the portion was sufficient. The price-performance ratio was reasonable. We sat on comfortable chairs in the beer garden. No wood class

I've been coming to the old office mainly in the summer for years. The outdoor dining is recommended, but for me personally it is too loud inside. The food tastes very good. After shopping at the market, you can relax wonderfully with good wine and delicious food. The service staff is usually very nice and accommodating.

Ordered Aperol Spritz, unfortunately not enough Aperol mixed. Even after a comment to the waitress who took it back and came back with a little more Aperol in it. Still no Aperol spritz! Too bad, if you're out of Aperol, tell me.

It is well located and the food is correct. The service of the staff could be improved, especially for those of us who do not speak German and have a hard time understanding the menu.

A good restaurant on the main square of this city, which is not too expensive considering the location, and the food is delicious. I recommend eating on the terrace in the warm part of the year.

The restaurant is very nice with a view of the castle gardens. You can sit well outside. The food was delicious and plentiful. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. I can definitely recommend the restaurant.

Overall: good! However, if you are looking for the _very best_ Swabian home cooking, you will have to go somewhere else. Nevertheless, a recommendable restaurant, the service is extremely friendly, on the ball, very customer-oriented and, above all, handled excellent complaints when I didn't like the Maultaschen. A new, fresh one was immediately brought to me and it tasted significantly different, one was probably somehow stale or had been stored for too long. It shouldn't be, but it does happen. Actually, the Maultaschen are probably made fresh here every day. Potato salad was very good, cheese spaetzle was good, jus and onion melts were also good. The Hofbräu Kellerbier naturally cloudy on tap also tastes good, but in the end it is a Radeberger/Dr. Oetker beer, and for real Swabians, Hofbräu has never been the pinnacle of Swabian beer enjoyment. If you can drink very well, you probably have to serve something between the Old and New Castles (HOFbräu), but there are better options. The location is of course fantastic and it's nice to sit in, so overall recommended!

The waiter who served us for the most part was first class and knew what he was doing. The Maultaschen in the broth and the mixed salad beforehand were good. As a little extra we had the pickled olives and there was nothing wrong with them. The main course included pork fillet with mushroom cream sauce and spaetzle, beef goulash with pasta and cauliflower, lentils with spaetzle and tagliatelle in chanterelle cream. Everything was very tasty and I can only recommend this shop. Sat on the terrace but the interior was even more attractive and certainly worth another visit. It was our first time there but certainly not our last.

Unfortunately the onion roast was a bit tough. The service is attentive and friendly.

Unfortunately, the impression of being “welcome” was not conveyed here, there were hardly any tables occupied. When we arrived we weren't really noticed, we ordered 3 pilsners at the table, it took about 15 minutes until we had our order even though there were more than 4 conditions. Prices are also steep, 2cl wine no matter which one is 8.40 euros... Food looked delicious but the price wasn't without...

The food was very tasty. I was pleasantly surprised. "Old Office" somehow sounds pretty classy and not like a place I would normally visit - total misjudgment! Price/performance is right and I'm glad that I was "dragged" into the restaurant by my companion. I'll be happy to come back and bring others with me!!! 5 out of 5 stars!

Breakfast taken in this establishment, very good. Nice square, car-free, in front of the Schiller statue and the market. Go there around 9am. Coffee + croissant + fresh bread €9.50.

Amazing Swabian food - must try their Käsespätzle and Potato Salad. Ot's the best I ever tried being from the region myself. Their wine assortment is amazing as well. Great service. We dined in on a Monday night an waited almost 45 mins for our food.

Over 60 years ago I was often a guest in the Old Office with my grandmother, and now I, now a grandfather myself, enjoyed a very good Swabian menu with my wife on the terrace right next to the Stuttgart fan mile before the European Championship final. With an extremely attentive, friendly service, whose friendliness seemed genuine, not like the stewardess friendliness whose smile freezes as soon as you turn away, and who also scored points with her excellent English skills at the surrounding tables with the predominantly international audience that evening. This is how you imagine modern service in the catering industry, thank you for that!

Great place. Delicious regional draft beer. The food is delicious. But you must bear in mind that the portions are not large. Prices are quite high.

A place where you can relax with pleasure, in the center of Stuttgart, at a point overlooking the square. The employees are very polite and caring. Their service is fast, their toilets are clean. We drank coffee and ate creme brulee.

Delicious, partly seasonal dishes in a relaxed atmosphere. In early summer I can particularly recommend the asparagus dishes. Delicious. Central location in Stuttgart-Mitte.

Superb location: one entrance on the grandiose Schlossplatz, the other on the more intimate Schillerplatz with a wonderful view of the Stiftskirche. Locally brewed Kellerbier. What's not to like?

The restaurant itself is very nice to sit and eat. Personally, I didn’t find the “normal” portion of asparagus (see photo) filling. When I asked if I could get more potatoes, I got the casual answer: “I can offer you bread!” There were no extra potatoes on the menu!?! The half portion of asparagus (see photo) only has one potato on the plate and costs a lot less. Everything tasted very good.

Fair Swabian food with a mix of other things on the menu. The prices are on the higher side given the quality. We really enjoyed the Käsespätzle and a bit less the Wiener Schnitzel that was a bit thick and small for a Wiener Schnitzel. The place is spacious and the service is very kind – at least while we were having the meal there. Later in the day we returned to see a match during the Championship and they were very specific about which tables can be taken, which chairs can be brought outside even though the place was full and the German team was playing (we would expect a bit more goodwill)…

Unfortunately it's no longer what it used to be. Went here spontaneously - on a Thursday evening (as a couple). Everything took forever, even though not all the places were occupied. But what bothered us the most: the sprouts were rotten. Black dots slightly yellowish color. The whole salad was inedible. In addition, for €17.30, it's really not worth the price. Just lettuce, 4 pieces of orange, 2 grapes and dried chicken. Dressing without taste. Salad was taken back without hesitation - Comment: The sprouts were delivered today. I didn't order any other food as a replacement, if you don't recognize that, you won't recognize anything else that's spoiled, sorry!

We were in the restaurant on Friday evening, which might have been a bit unfortunate for a free table at Shillerplatz. Unfortunately, the staff was a bit inattentive, they swapped drinks and plates with us, and instead of Radler we were given draft beer. Otherwise, I thought the prices were a bit too high. For 2x small Soups, 2x small + 1x large main course and 3x drinks you pay around 90-100€.

My family was seated in a remote location in the restaurant even when whole indoor dining area was empty. Then they never came to us to serve. Unfortunately, they do serve based on your color.

Today around 2 p.m. we got a table (which still had dirt and ash from our predecessors on it). The waiter took our order. When we wanted to order the food, the waiter said that the kitchen couldn't be booked at the moment. We can order again in about 10 minutes. We were surprised, we didn't know anything like that, the kitchen was actually all the way there and there wasn't much going on. We asked another waiter who confirmed the statement. After 20 minutes we asked again, the announced 10 minutes had long since passed, the waiter replied annoyed that it wasn't possible yet. 40 minutes later we were able to order, but the waiter was unfortunately quite rude, even though we were friendly. The food was good and nicely prepared, and you can sit outside very nicely. The toilets were bad again, completely dirty, no towel paper in the dispenser. Conclusion: the food tastes good, the seating is very nice, but there is a lot of room for improvement in terms of organization, friendliness and cleanliness. We probably won't go there again.

It was very nice outside on the terrace (lunch). However, it is not possible to reserve a table outside, you are just a bit lucky. The food is good and the service is attentive. But you should wait a bit.

I live in Philadelphia USA and was on stuttgart to visit my family. We went to Alte Kanzlei twice and had a great experience. The food was fresh and delicious, the service was impeccable.

The white asparagus, which is in abundance in season, is very fresh and sweet.

If you can't decide between Maultaschen and Käsespätzle, simply choose the Swabian plate. Really very tasty!

A terrific find in Stuttgart. Classic Swabian cuisine in a very German environment. The restaurant has a beautiful outdoor seating area where you are surrounded by medieval architecture in a lovely platz. It also has a very cozy indoor bar and seating area. The wine list is slight and needs enlargement, but the beers are delightful, as are the cocktails. We received great service from the wait staff.

We spontaneously wanted to eat in this restaurant yesterday evening. Unfortunately we left after over 10 minutes because the waiter was incredible. When we asked where we could sit, there was no hello but “where there is free” and he was gone. A short time later he put 2 cards on the table as he walked past and that was it. For him it was more important to put candles on every table throughout the restaurant, then clear empty plates from the next table and bring menus there again. Unfortunately he didn't respond to our attention. At some point we got up and left. Apparently no one there is interested in that either. What you need to know is that the prices for normal dishes are in the upper price range compared to the restaurants in the surrounding area. We just wanted to try the law firm because we live in the city center but unfortunately not like that...

Restaurant with Swabian specialties

The Old Chancellery offers a very beautiful outdoor area both on Schillerplatz and towards Schlossplatz. When there is a lot of activity, the interior can be very noisy. The food has always been good. The only exception was a fish dish where the fish was absolutely dry. Exchange went smoothly. It's great that "small dishes" are offered for when you're hungry in between meals. The breakfast hasn't been great so far.

Very well furnished and pleasant place. Friendly and helpful waiter. Unfortunately there is no menu in Italian. The food was good, even the desserts!

After a visit to the construction site of the new train station, we had a good meal and a pleasant atmosphere with friendly and attentive service staff. It's all ok.

We ate spinach cake. It was very tasty, well baked and nutritious. Served with various salads. We also got quite full. Was a nice stay. Service was nice and accommodating. Relatively quiet and pleasant temperature.

On a Saturday lunchtime we spontaneously took the risk and went to the "Old Chancellery" without a reservation. To our delight, there were still a few seats available, so we were seated at a comfortable table. The service was quick and friendly right from the start. She took our order quickly and served us the drinks and food soon after. The food was good. The dishes were freshly prepared and tasted good. The prices are fair and reasonable for Stuttgart.

Introduced this restaurant to friends on their first trip to Stuttgart. Some went back three times during our few days there. Always one of the best choices when I visit the city.

Traditional but modern inn in the center of Stuttgart. Friendly and nice employees who care about the well-being of their guests. Large adjoining rooms for different group sizes on the upper floor.

As for food, everything was tasty, just right and of quality product. It just so happened that they were changing the menu and some dishes didn't have them. Furthermore, they did not have an option in Spanish, neither online nor physically, they could learn from Spain, we even have Chinese. The happy customer returns with more customers, the dissatisfied customer is a danger. Luckily, we came out happy.

Successful evening. There were four of us in the Old Office and it was a successful evening all around. The restaurant is furnished in a contemporary style and is very pleasant: although it was almost completely full, you could have a normal conversation and the background noise wasn't disturbing. The service was super friendly, competent and fast. First of all, big praise for this. The four main courses were all really very good. Everything was served at the same time and any special requests were of course taken into account. The quality of the food was really good and the kitchen dared to add spices, which we all really liked. Price/performance appropriate in any case. We will definitely come by again soon.

Was that ever there, you have to wait 15 minutes for sun spots on the terrace, then quick service drinks and food served at the same time can highly recommend
