Don't go in there. It's the lowest quality and overpriced to boot. It used to be a great café. Now they sell supermarket-style cakes, cut them into tiny pieces, and charge a fortune.

Popular spot among locals and tourists. We ordered the pumpkin soup and broccoli cream soup. Both was tasty.

The Alte Kanzlei is a very special restaurant in a historic building. Old and new have been successfully combined here. The quality of the Swabian cuisine is outstanding, and the value for money is excellent. A special mention goes to Reda, our server, who, despite the huge crowds at #Stuttgartleuchtet, always kept his cool, was attentive, and clearly enjoyed his job. Besides the ambiance and the food, he was also a highlight – thank you so much!

Friendly and helpful staff. Excellent artisanal teas and exceptional desserts, not to mention the traditional dishes. Spotlessly clean bathrooms. Quality that justifies the prices.

The vegan bowl looked really delicious, but unfortunately some of the sprouts weren't fresh – the initial impression vanished faster than we could eat. Our waiter was super friendly, but clearly overwhelmed with all the guests. At these prices, a little more staff and fresher ingredients in the kitchen would definitely improve the experience.

When we still lived in Stuttgart-Ost (until mid-2020), we were regulars at the Alte Kanzlei. Whether for a delicious meal or simply to enjoy a few cocktails 🍹 or a glass of wine 🍷 and peanuts 🙌🏻 Last week, the time had come: we made our way from HDH to Bärensee to explore our old stomping grounds a bit. To end the day in a relaxed manner, we returned to this great location ✔️ We were not disappointed: the food was delicious as always, the service attentive and courteous, and the price was still perfectly reasonable even in 2025 😄 We'd be happy to go back anytime 🙏🏼

There were two of us here. The food was good. Unfortunately, it wasn't hot enough. The service was excellent, the atmosphere was nice, perhaps a bit too loud. We probably won't go back.

Very good restaurant with Swabian food

If you want Swabian food, this is the place to go. A diverse crowd, great food, and friendly people.

I was able to enjoy the excellent service and perfect food at a company event. The staff is very friendly. The law firm team managed to keep our buffet food warm while still cooking the meat and side dishes to perfection. The Maultaschen (including the vegetarian ones) and the salads on offer were first-class. Definitely recommended for larger groups, too!

The food was very good! The staff was a bit inattentive, but overall everything went quite quickly. It does feel a bit like a train station concourse, though.

We got a table for two at short notice on a Saturday evening after a five-minute wait and had a delicious meal: surf 'n turf with mashed potatoes and rabbit leg with mushroom risotto were both excellent! The service was busy and not always immediately available, but friendly. We were very satisfied!

Very friendly service, they appear very relaxed and calm, even though there was plenty of reason to be stressed, which at least you couldn't tell. Very tasty food with a good selection. Due to the size of the room, it's quite noisy. That was partly due to a large tour group with younger people having a relaxed conversation :-). We had a very nice evening, thank you.

We went there for dinner during the wine festival. The food itself was good, the service friendly, but extremely slow (probably due to the wine festival, which was running at the same time). The prices were reasonable.

This was my first time at a restaurant serving traditional Swabian dishes. The food was truly delicious. We had a roast beef with onions, which was cooked perfectly medium, as requested. And the Maultaschen (smeared ravioli), which were also delicious. The price/service was absolutely reasonable for what you get. The service was really friendly and helpful. If I'm ever there again, I'll be back.

We sat for a long time, and were told twice that someone would be right there. After people around us had their coffee, we got up, and after 10 minutes at the Schlossplatz, we had our coffee.

I was here during the wine village. The service and the food were very good considering the crowd. Unfortunately, it was very crowded and noisy. Even with a reservation, it was difficult to get a seat for everyone. Conversations were only possible at extremely high volume.

Unfortunately, it was a terrible experience, not so much in terms of the quality of the food, which was decent, but especially in terms of the table service. Despite the small number of customers, after placing our order, they completely forgot to serve one of us, and we waited almost 40 minutes for everyone to receive their orders. Two people eating and one forced to watch isn't nice... And to top it all off? When paying for dinner, they even asked me for a tip (which is mandatory, by the way)... shame on you!

The Alte Kanzlei restaurant is located near Schlossplatz and has a lovely outdoor terrace overlooking Schillerplatz. We were seated immediately, even without a reservation. The staff was friendly and served us well. The food was very good and served quickly. We even decided to visit the restaurant twice during our stay in Stuttgart because the food was so good the first time, and we wanted to try something different from the menu. We had a great time both evenings.

We have had a horrible experience with the snob and rude waiter who thinks he has right to waited customers on purpose just customers were not ready to order when he asks. When we are ready we called him politely 3 times, he saw but did not come, he took other customers pictures, organize the service desk but did not come on purpose We requested help an other waiter, he told him too but it did not change his impertinent attitude and even we waited more than 15 minutes he did not came. I reported him to the manager of the restorant, finally he came and unashamedly said that you did not give order when I came. When you go to the Alte Kanzlei you accept to have a few meal options with really high preices, but this attitude is unacceptable in any conditions, any country. I will never ever go to that place for sure but also recommend everyone to not go as well.

We were at the Laube wine village. Everything was fantastic. The food was first-class. The service was also excellent. Our waiter, Nedeljko Miletic, was fantastic. Friendly, attentive, professional, and charming. The cooperation with Ms. Schweikle during the reservation process was excellent. Thank you for a wonderful evening.

A spacious and tastefully decorated restaurant, right in the city center. We returned twice in four days, confirming our good experience. We ate both outside, in a very welcoming area with umbrellas, and inside, which is tastefully decorated. The dishes were excellent, well-presented, and tasty. The staff was helpful and friendly. Prices were very reasonable for a place right in the city center.

I was craving German food—and that's exactly what I got! 😍 Fluffy cheese-filled spaetzle, crispy schnitzel, traditional potato salad, and a glass of delicious, local, dry white wine. When I mentioned a severe fish allergy, all she said was, "The kitchen is in chaos because of the wine festival, and I can't promise anything." I tried to make a reservation and experienced one of the most unprofessional email exchanges I’ve ever had with a restaurant. From the start, the communication was confusing — sometimes I was told to reserve at the restaurant, sometimes at the “Weindorf.” I stayed polite throughout, clarified details several times, and even complimented the staff for their help. Unfortunately, the tone of their replies was increasingly unfriendly, and in the end, my confirmed reservation was canceled by this person because of a honest mistake. Instead of simply clarifying or correcting me, they responded with hostility and canceled my booking! For a hospitality business, this kind of reaction is unacceptable. Canceling a reservation that i already shared with 20 people over a small politeness slip — despite being courteous and grateful — shows a lack of professionalism and respect. Potential guests should be aware of this before booking here.

I found a wonderful German restaurant in the heart of the old town with incredibly delicious traditional cuisine. The dishes were served quickly, the service was friendly and attentive. I was very satisfied and definitely recommend this place!

No, terrible service. Ordering cake at 5:01 p.m. isn't possible; it's only available until 5:00 p.m., even though it's available at the cake counter. Absolutely outrageous! The manager banned it... is that even possible? Never again!

The food was truly delicious and freshly prepared, and the prices are absolutely fair and in keeping with the quality. You can tell the love and care goes into the cooking here. My only minor criticism is the wait – it took a bit longer for the food to be served. If you're not too hungry, though, it's bearable, as the wait is truly worth it in the end. We came here as a group for brunch and ordered the breakfast for two. Unfortunately, the value for money wasn't quite as good as some other restaurants in Stuttgart. The staff was friendly at first, but when it came to distributing the ordered items, the mood unfortunately dropped a bit, but that didn't spoil our appetite. Maybe we were just having a bad day, as everyone knows.

Food was ok, atmosphere is nice if you sit outside on the market square. Our service was not great - our little guy spilled some apple juice, they left us to find napkins on our own and watched us while we wiped the floor waiting for us to finish so we would order. No one offered any help. We felt more like an inconvenience than a guest.

When I want to eat well in the heart of Stuttgart, my path leads me to Kanzlei. All the Swabian classics are on the menu. Dining here isn't cheap, but it's not as expensive as you might think. The homemade lemonades are highly recommended... and sitting on Schillerplatz in the summer and watching the hustle and bustle is definitely worth it.

We sat down on the terrace for dinner with our two daughters, ages 3 and 6. The waitress welcomed us warmly and was attentive. There's a children's menu, perfect for coloring. We really enjoyed the Schweinefiletmedaillons in gravy with Kässpätzle. Truly delicious! We were just passing through; otherwise, I would have gone back again. Fantastic!

The Alte Kanzlei is an institution in Stuttgart. In terms of gastronomy, I would place it in the mid-range. The dishes served are mostly home-style regional dishes, which have so far impressed me with their taste. The recent pork medallions with cheese spaetzle and gravy were quite satisfying, but the relatively empty plate would have benefited from a side dish of salad or vegetables. The prices are quite reasonable for the excellent location between Schlossplatz and Schillerplatz (with terraces on both sides). The service was quick, but also a bit overwhelmed in our case. The food arrived before the drinks. Not ideal, and not just on hot days. Once, the wrong item was brought because someone apparently didn't really know their own menu. Finding good service is, of course, not easy either. Overall, and also due to the pleasant ambiance, 4 stars are justified.

We sat outside on the Schillerplatz side. The ambiance was wonderfully quiet and pleasant. The service was very friendly, the food was delicious and came quickly. A nice selection of aperitifs and wines was available. We had the suckling pig fillet and roasted Maultaschen for main course, and crème brûlée and Ofenschlutzer for dessert. I highly recommend this restaurant.

It is a place I always enjoy coming to, but the waiters' behavior and the way they address the customers is impudent. No matter how right they are, such behavior is unacceptable. Don't complain, you will be scolded. We ordered Veal Schnitzel, it was 1/4 of the normal, not beaten enough, breaded meat. If they had written it on the menu as breaded meat instead of Schnitzel, I would have nothing to say. But every dish has a presentation.
