Pleasant atmosphere, and excellent pizza

A small, somewhat cramped, but very pleasant restaurant not far from the TU. The pizzas we tried (€15-17) were fluffy and light, almost digestible, despite their high crusts. It's no wonder that even Italians from Campania come here to indulge themselves. The Neapolitan owner runs his restaurant from behind the counter, from which beers and other drinks can be passed to neighboring tables. He is always approachable and responds promptly. For dessert, there was an excellent baba, which you can easily share, accompanied by barrel-aged grappa. You don't need anything more to be completely satisfied.

Calvello’s is one of the best pizzas I had in my entire life, and don’t worry, I’m a pizza monster eating pizza on every opportunity. But this place just amazes me every single time. Perfect food, nice location, nice staff. It’s always packed make sure to reserve.

The staff create a great atmosphere and a friendly atmosphere – and despite some spontaneous visits, we always managed to get a table. Absolutely recommend it, and I look forward to coming back :)

Best Neapolitan pizza, family atmosphere, very friendly service!

After we had settled on German cuisine, it was time for the easy solution when you decide to eat at the last minute: pizza. We entered this small place without a reservation and with little hope. We asked if we could even sit at the bar, but the German waitress turned us down, honoring the German lack of flexibility, because all the tables had been reserved by that time. However, when the Neapolitan owner heard us speaking Italian, he made us sit down, since one of the tables had not yet appeared. And, of course, the owner and pizzaiolo also made us sit down with his creations. I had a Fuego with ventricina salami, chili and Calabrian n'duja. Traditional spicy pizza never fails, as long as it has the right dough; here too, the master has honored the tradition of the pizza capital. I highly recommend!

My companion and I cannot understand the enthusiastic reviews of this pizza place; we ate there two weeks ago (encouraged by a newspaper that celebrated their „authentic Naples pizza“). Apart from the somewhat bubbly pizza crust (seen in pizzas in Naples) my pizza tasted quite bland, especially the mozzarella (I doubt it was buffalo). To enhance the flavour we asked for garlic oil - which looked and smelled rancid, so we didn’t use it. One of the restaurant’s proprietors served us: he couldn‘t care less and made us feel uncomfortable. (The female member of staff however was attentive and very friendly). Last point: they take cash only, and we had to ask for a receipt explicitly … If you want excellent pizza and good service with fresh spicy oil, for the same price, you will be happier in Neuhauser in Schwabing.

The pizza is good, but nothing special. The dining room is very small, but feels cozy. We preferred eating outside in the garden. If you want a really good pizza to go, you can also go to Napoli Rush on Theresienstraße, which is the parallel street. I find it much better.

Truly, by far the best pizza I've ever had in Germany, and even in Italy. As soon as you walk in, you're greeted by a delicious aroma and very friendly people. A relaxed place to feel good and enjoy! And then comes a fragrant pizza margarita, with an incredible crust, a fruity-sweet tomato sauce, and the perfect amount of the best cheese. Thank you for your perfect pizza craftsmanship and your love of cooking, which conjures up such deliciousness from just a few good ingredients!

The pizza was good, but in my opinion, there are better ones. For starters, we had burrata and bruschetta. The bruschetta lacked garlic and was generally a bit spicy. The olive oil was excellent. Unfortunately, both starters were made with German tomatoes (they tasted like supermarket tomatoes). The tomatoes were a bit bland, unfortunately. I don't know if there are any better tomatoes in Munich. The restaurant is quite small but has a cool decor, but if you're unlucky and there are loud groups there at the same time, it can get noisy.

I recently ordered a “Calvello’s” pizza, which came topped with burrata, truffle, rucola, cherry tomatoes, and of course tomato sauce and mozzarella. The pizza was absolutely delicious. The dough was of excellent quality and you could really taste that it was a premium pizza. I highly recommend it to everyone—coming from an Italian, I think it’s the best pizza in Munich!

Impolite and insulting behaviour They let us in with delay, then they refused to take our order because we wanted to share Pizzas. Although, they had many empty seats... it is really disappointing to see this kind of insulting behavior.....

I had a wonderful evening with my friends at Calvello's today. The pizzas are sensational. I've eaten many good Neapolitan pizzas in various cities across Germany, but this one was truly superior to anything I've had before. Whether it's the quality of the ingredients or the dough preparation, I don't know. In any case, the pizzas are great, the service is relaxed and authentic. The food was served quickly, and the atmosphere was very relaxed and convivial. I can only recommend everyone to try this place. Unfortunately, I'm not in Munich very often, but I'll be back at the next opportunity.

Very tasty pizza with excellent crust and toppings. The servers are very friendly, but we had to wait a bit despite having a reservation. A family-run business worth supporting, with reasonable prices.

What can I say? Simply fantastic! Excellent service, excellent food (from the pizza—superlative—to the dessert), everything was excellent. If I really had to nitpick, I'd say the space is really small and the prices aren't exactly cheap. Reservations are highly recommended. No waiting. They deliver within a 3km radius or simply order takeout. Ordered pizzas: Jerry, Lucana, Fuego, and Boscaiola. Excellent tiramisu.

I discovered the restaurant through an Instagram post and tried it out with my girlfriend. The ambiance is sweet and stylish, a bit "fancy" – but that's not uncommon in Munich. You just adapt to the clientele and the surroundings. My girlfriend particularly found the lovingly designed decor very sweet and harmonious. The service was fine – friendly but unobtrusive. For an aperitif, I had an Aperol Spritz, which was unfortunately a bit bland – rather watery in taste and lacking in tang. The food, however, fully met our expectations: We had Caprese for starters, and Pizza Cavellos for the main course – both very tasty and beautifully presented. The only minor disappointment was the red wine: unfortunately, it was a wine I know from the supermarket – available there for significantly less money. This somewhat dampened the experience, as one would have expected something more unique for that price. Overall, though, it was a lovely evening with very good food in a lovely setting. If I could, I would give it 4.5 stars – so I’ll round it up to 5 with a small deduction in my mind.

Last night I had the Calvello’s pizza with burrata, arugula, and truffle — and honestly, it was insane. I keep wondering how they manage to get such top-quality ingredients all the way from Italy, because I haven’t found anything quite like this in Munich until now. The dough was simply amazing: high crust, just the right crunch, super light and well-fermented. I slept like a baby after eating it — and that says a lot about how good and digestible it was! The truffle on top was incredibly fragrant, the burrata was creamy and fresh, and the whole experience felt like a real trip back to Italy. Especially thanks to Massimo, the owner — super friendly, welcoming, and genuinely funny. He immediately made us feel at home. Prices? Very fair, especially considering the high quality of the ingredients and the lovely location in Maxvorstadt. 👉 One of the best pizzas you’ll find in Munich, no doubt. Honestly? It even beats many places back home in Italy. 🇮🇹 Coming from an Italian, that’s saying something!

Probably the best pizza in Munich!

There were 5 of us in total, with 4 different pizzas. I can only say on behalf of the other 4 people that we ate very well. I wasn't so impressed with the dessert; it was just ice cream. Those who opted for the tiramisu were better off, because it was very good. Of course, there were a few things that I, as a guest, didn't like so much, like the restrooms, where I initially thought I'd gone through the wrong door. Then there was only cash payment (but I also understand the owner's argument) and 500 ml of tap water for €3.50. However, I can't comment on the reasons for this. In my opinion, this restaurant doesn't need such a thing, especially since the wine goes better with the pizza. But hey, we want to eat well, and that was certainly what we got. Thank you very much, and we will definitely come back and tell others about the great pizza.

To be honest, I'm quite confused. If you call yourself a "Neapolitan pizzeria," you should know the basic rules of Neapolitan pizza—or at least respect them. A pizza marinara with anchovies and capers is simply not a marinara. Period. The marinara is one of the oldest pizzas in existence. Its name has nothing to do with fish—but rather with the sailors who took it with them on their travels because of its simple ingredients. A true marinara consists of dough, tomatoes, oregano, olive oil—and maybe a bit of garlic. The fact that a pizzeria that prides itself on its "authenticity" instead serves a fanciful version with fish is not only confusing—it's a breach of culinary honesty. It's as if I were to order a white sausage in Munich and instead get a bratwurst in a jar because "it's on the menu." No—certain things are not available for creative experimentation. Those who work with the concepts of tradition bear responsibility. And that includes being able to order a marinara without studying the menu – because I know what a marinara is. The fact that I was almost served a pizza with fish, even though I specifically ordered marinara, isn't a minor slip-up, but a real breach of trust. PS following the restaurant's response to this review: Apparently, my criticism hit harder than I expected – otherwise, the overly sensitive reaction is hard to explain. If you publicly position yourself as a "Neapolitan pizzeria," you should expect that guests will come with a certain amount of knowledge – and then be able to say if something isn't right. This isn't about personal preferences, but rather about clear definitions. And this is provided by the official body, namely the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana (AVPN): "The denomination of the product is called “Verace Pizza Napoletana” (…) the cui used is kept in the due tipi di pizza marinara (pomodoro, olio, origano e aglio) ..." In German: A pizza marinara only contains tomatoes, oil, oregano and garlic. Between us again: Second to the discipline of AVPN, a vera Marinara è cu’ pommodoro, oglio, origano e aglio sulo. If you hit it and put it on the cap, you will now have a marinara. Vi pregammo: rinuovate 'o name pe' chesta versione - o tornate all'autenticità.

The pizza is good... but the Babà al Rum is amazing 😜. Super authentic restaurant. Please keep it up. The place is very small, so reservations are a must.

After reading about the pizzeria in the press, we wanted to try it for ourselves and were certainly not disappointed. The first two pictures below show the Pizza Queen and Cavello's, both of which taste amazing. You can immediately tell how fresh the toppings are. The dough is wonderfully fluffy and has a nice, high crust. We both agreed that we haven't had such a good pizza in Germany. Prices are in the very high range at €22 and €20, respectively, but they're still reasonable. The drink prices are really good: a Sarti Spritz for €8.50, a half-liter of Augustiner for €4.50, and a 4cl Barrique Grappa for €6.50 (highly recommended). A small restaurant with the necessary charm and Neapolitan flair. Thanks for the excellent service, we'll definitely be back.

The pizza are delicious. I took a Queen, and that was the best one on the table. The other one, the Nuvola, was good but lack of salt and too green on the salad: lack of guilty pleasure feeling. We had it take away and it was super quick to be prepared! Good communication via WhatsApp to order.
