Everything was simply wonderful. Our server, Tim, was especially outstanding. We always enjoy coming here to eat.

Great ambiance, but very sweet and small (rice) side dishes. The May Restaurant impresses with its truly beautiful ambiance. The wall with its many waving cats is a real eye-catcher and creates a wonderful atmosphere. The service was also very friendly and attentive. However, two points are deducted for the food (the sweetness and the side dishes): For my taste, it was unfortunately much too sweet. We mentioned this to the waiter, and he openly confirmed that the food here is indeed prepared with a lot of sugar and is therefore not entirely authentic. He explained that the recipe was deliberately adapted "because Germans apparently prefer it a bit sweeter." It was also noticeable that only a very small portion of rice was served with each main course, which was a bit meager for our appetites (see my photos). Those looking for genuine, rather spicy and fresh authentic Vietnamese cuisine might be disappointed here. However, those who enjoy sweet food and want to appreciate the great design will still find it a good choice! Therefore, a clear recommendation for lovers of sweet dishes! I'll objectively give it 3 stars, but I won't be coming back because of the sweet taste and because I'm better off elsewhere for authentic Vietnamese food, so I can actually make a comparison.

I would love to give 5 stars, but unfortunately I have to deduct one because I had a slight stomach upset. However, I must say that the food tasted fantastic, and sometimes your stomach can react a little to new food. So, despite that, I highly recommend it. The staff are very friendly and the atmosphere is simply stunning.

Like all Doan family restaurants, this one is highly recommended. The food is fantastic and the service attentive. They offer a smaller menu at lunchtime, but at very fair prices.

It's a pretty restaurant, so it's quite pricey 🥲 The Pad Thai was delicious! The spicy cashew chicken wasn't spicy at all and was just average! The atmosphere is nice, so it's a bit expensive 🥲 There were plenty of seats, but I was disappointed to get a cramped corner table ㅠ

Very, very delicious food of good quality at a reasonable price. Unfortunately, we're not from Munich, otherwise we would come more often. The waiter is extremely friendly and well-dressed. The restaurant is simply great, especially the waving cat wall!

One of the best Vietnamese restaurants in Munich

Extremely disappointed. Google says they close at 11:00 PM, but when I walked in at 10:00 PM, I was told the kitchen was closed despite a full house of diners. After leaving, the server followed me out to take an order, but then intentionally or carelessly entered the wrong items (duck instead of the veggie rice I asked for). It felt like a clear case of profiling and a deliberate attempt to make me feel unwelcome. Avoid this place if you value respectful service.

The staff were very friendly and the food was good, but towards the end it got quite crowded and noisy due to the large groups.

The reservation via OpenTable went smoothly. On the day of our visit, we received a reminder in the afternoon asking if we would be arriving with the specified number of people and requesting a call back. The employee on the phone was very difficult to understand. Ultimately, everything worked out well, and we got a table on the right-hand side. There are also tables right by the entrance, which I found quite uncomfortable. The restaurant was already quite busy at 6 p.m. and later felt completely full. It got quite noisy as a result. The service was excellent throughout the evening. The staff were always approachable, attentive, and available. The menu offers a good cross-section of Asian cuisine, but it is on the pricier side. There were four of us for dinner, and we sampled a variety of dishes, from rahmati with tofu or chicken breast to beef and curry. We also ordered dumplings and edamame. , ... Great tableware, beautifully presented food, generous portions, and absolutely delicious: we were completely satisfied and highly recommend "May." We also really enjoyed the atmosphere. Yesterday I spontaneously ate at May for the first time. From the outside, it looked unassuming at first glance, but as soon as the door opened, I was more than impressed by the wonderful atmosphere and the friendly service. I got a table immediately, even though the restaurant was very busy on a Sunday. The restaurant has a truly chic and elegant ambiance – you can definitely feel very comfortable here. The food was incredibly delicious. The wok-fried Tiri Cheddar was sooooo good. :-) The strawberry basil lemonade was also very refreshing. For dessert, I had espresso ginger ice cream with mocha, which tasted really interesting. The service was very friendly and quick. Everything was handled very professionally, without being intrusive, from taking the order to serving the food, clearing the table, and offering dessert afterward. They do so many things right to make their guests feel welcome. The restaurant is mid-range to high-priced, but the taste and service are definitely worth it. The restaurant's size does create a certain amount of noise, but that, along with the limited parking, is probably the only downside – something you'd likely find in almost any big-city restaurant. ;-) What I also really appreciated was that each table had a remote control to call staff for an order or the bill. And in my case, it worked perfectly for the bill. No need to crane your neck and ask someone to come over. Excellent, and a definite recommendation.

My wife and I had lunch at May Restaurant today (12:30-2 pm) after making a reservation online. The ambiance was, as expected from the photos on their website, fantastic; I imagine it's even more impressive in the evening. The staff, all Asian/Vietnamese, were very polite and attentive. The noise level was reasonable (the restaurant was only half full). The dishes we chose (salmon/chicken; desserts: crème brûlée/sorbet) were excellent and plentiful, and we could order more rice and sauce (at no extra charge). After the delicious dessert, we left completely full and satisfied, knowing that there are still restaurants in Munich that truly deliver. Highly recommended! We'll be back!

We were at the restaurant on March 20, 2026 at 6:00 PM. The food was excellent, the atmosphere was lovely, and the staff was incredibly friendly. They frequently checked if everything was alright. The table was set by a staff member wearing white gloves, which is something you rarely see. We will definitely be back. Hans

May Restaurant beautifully blends Far Eastern influences into its menu and overall concept. With such a wide variety of dishes, making a choice can be quite challenging, but I decided to follow the chef’s recommendations — and it turned out to be a very enjoyable experience. Compared to some other restaurants, the quality and tenderness of the meat could have been slightly better. However, aside from that, the flavors, sauces, and spices were truly delightful. Overall, it was a pleasant dining experience and I would certainly recommend it.

Best Vietnamese restaurant in Munich 😃

An extraordinary experience, and I'm already looking forward to the next time.

The food and atmosphere were great. The service was sometimes unfriendly; for example, we wanted ramen noodles instead of rice, but the response was blunt: they didn't have any noodles, only rice. The menu said otherwise, but by then the waiter had already left. Around 9:30 p.m., there was a loud cleaning up, the entrance door was flung open, and two waiters positioned themselves in front of our table to wait for us to pay—quite unpleasant. We unfortunately didn't feel comfortable at all and were ultimately "kicked out" at 10 p.m.

The best restaurant if you want truly refined Vietnamese food. We're huge fans and regular customers. Every visit is an event.

Came here after seeing all the positive reviews but our experience was just average. The drink was amazing but the main course was unfortunately not up to our expectations. The ginger duck was rather super salty and Pad thai looked so basic. The prices are expensive as well, price to taste ratio was unfortunately not justified. The service was super fast, however, looked like the waiter wanted to rush home. He was trying to clear our plates even when there was food on it and was constantly looking at his watch. Felt a bit rushed, and it was only 9pm and the restaurant also looked full and busy. Wouldn’t recommend.

A fantastic Vietnamese restaurant with excellent value for money. The meat, in particular, was wonderfully juicy and plentiful, accompanied by crisp, carefully selected vegetables – perfectly matched to the dishes. The interior isn't large (it is a city center, after all), but it's very cozy and pleasant. Highly recommended – five stars and a definite return guarantee.
