Essen war gut, allerdings auch hochpreisig. Nur der Salat, der laut Speisekarte dabei sein sollte, er fehlte. Darauf angesprochen, wollte der Kellner uns für dumm verkaufen und behauptete stur, das Gemüse unter dem Fleisch auf der heißen Pfanne sei der Salat. ... Ich kenne viele bessere Inder in Berlin.

Gepflegtes indisches Restaurant. Sehr freundlicher Service mit einem offenen Ohr für Sonderwünsche. Gutes Essen aber unser Huhn war etwas zu trocken gebraten und der Salat schmeckte langweilig, leider ist das in indischen Lokalen durchweg so ...

Das Calcutta ist das älteste indische Restaurant Berlins. Die Küche ist authentisch und köstlich mit einem großen vegetarischen Angebot. Sehr zu empfehlen

Indischer/ authentischer ?! Geht nicht. Hochgeschätzt auch in dipl. Kreisen (Tatsächlich ist es möglich, amtierende und auch ehemalige, z.T. hochrangige Größen hier beim Genießen anzutreffen.). Guten Appetit!!!

Das Calcutta Restaurant ist in der Bleibtreustr. 17, in 10623 Berlin gelegen. Insoweit handelt es sich hierbei um ein kleines indisches Lokal, mit tradionellen indischen Wandmalereien. Im Übrigen werden Currys, Birtanis, Mango Chicken und Tandoori - Speisen serviert. Die Atmosphäre ist sehr gut und das Ambiente ist auch sehr schön. Unlängst habe dort diverse Biere getrunken und einen Barra Kebap verzehrt. Beides war sehr delicious. Das Personal ist sehr freundlich, hilfsbereit, sozial kompetent und sehr wertvoll. Silvester spontan dort reserviert. Wir leben im Harz und indische Spezialitäten findet man bei uns nicht spontan im Kreis. Von daher mal eine besondere Küche. Aufmerksamer freundlicher Kellner. Tische mit Tischdecke, Blumen und Kerze bestückt, die auch sofort angezündet wurde. Bestellung wurde sehr zügig aufgenommen und anschließend auch serviert. Ob alles passt und ob es schmeckt,wurde auch freundlichst nachgefragt. Das Essen war sehr lecker, heiß und geschmackvoll angerichtet.

Unser Lieblings-Inder in Berlin und gleichzeitig der älteste! Seit 1964. Sie sind auch die einzigen, die noch einen Tandoor benutzen, was dem Grillgut diesen fantastischen Grillgeschmack verleiht. Besonders hervorzuheben sind das Käse-Knoblauch-Naan, das Palak Paneer, die drei Saucen und das Butter Chicken. Leider haben wir vergessen, unsere geliebten Papadums zu bestellen. Da müssen wir unbedingt wieder hin. Wir freuen uns sehr über dieses Festmahl, bevor es zurück in die Schweiz geht. Die Besitzer sind so liebenswürdig! Sie erinnern sich sogar noch an uns von vor zehn Jahren. Damals haben sie das Catering für die Taufe unseres Sohnes übernommen, als er fünf Monate alt war.

Hier stimmt Alles. Gerichte reichhaltig uns außergewöhnlich gut gewürzt. Preis Leistungsverhältnis stimmt .Sehr freundliches aufmerksames Personal. Top immer wieder.

Sehr schmackhafte indische Küche zu angemessenen Preisen. Bemerkenswert z.B. das Gerichte, die in der Karte als "scharf" gekennzeichnet sind, trotzdem sehr aromatisch schmecken und nicht einfach nur brennen, wie man das ja auch oft erlebt. Ein nettes Ambiente und der freundliche, unaufdringliche und flotte Service runden den Gesamteindruck ab. Sehr empfehlenswert, gerne wieder!

An upsetting and confusing experience overall: the service was unpleasant and ruined our mood and the portion size was disappointing (especially for the price, which can sometimes happen at fine dining restaurants, but one expects quality and experience to match). Except for the papadum (which was great!) the food was more on the bland side of the spectrum. A friend visiting town and I were excited to try this place, but the experience was disappointing. The waiter questioned our order (“Are you sure? It’s €30 per person – €60 in total”), which immediately made my guest uncomfortable. When we moved our empty lassi glasses aside, he placed them back in front of us — unnecessarily dismissive. We decided to take the food home instead. The manager apologized and offered a bottle of wine, which we appreciated, but the takeaway portions were small for two people and the food lacked the rich flavor expected from Indian cuisine. We’ve eaten Indian food widely across several countries, including India and the UK; this was memorable, but not for the right reasons. We had lentils soup, garlic naan, papadum, mango lassi and a Nawabi Platter. Only the papadum was remarkable.

Wir waren gestern zum ersten Mal im Calcutta das es in der nähe befindet und wir mal Indiesch probieren wollten sind wir Abends hin. Wir werden sehr freundlich empfangen und haben auch sofort einen Platz bekommen. Als der Regen stärker wurde, hat man uns auch umgehend einen Platz drinnen. gegeben. Das Essen ist super lecker, Ich hab selten so ein zartes und weiches Hähnchenfleisch gehabt wie an diesen Tag. Das Dessert war ein Gaumenschauß und hat den Abend perfekt abgerundet. Selbst der Chef hat sich Zeit für uns genommen und hat uns auf Fragen, die Geschichte der Malereien erzählt und wie er zu dieser Institutionen gekommen ist. Wenn man mal in Berlin ist und köstliches preiswertes Indiesches Essen probieren will. Ist im Calcutta herzlich aufgehoben. Beim nächsten Besuch werden wir das Holzkohleofen Brot probieren welches der Chef uns empfohlen hat. Auf jedenfall gerne wieder. UPDATE: Selbst beim zweiten Besuch wieder ein top köstliches Erlebnis. Als Abschluss für einen tollen Urlaub, wirklich sehr zu empfehlen. Top Bedienung, super nettes Personal und eine Geschichte die es lohnt zu hören

Das Essen ist sehr lecker und hat bei mir für neue Erfahrungen gesorgt im Bereich essen und Kultur. Die Geschichte des lokales ist sehr interessant und wird durch die hier gebotenen Gerichte nocheinmal verdeutlicht. Mit ca 20 - 30€ pro Person wird man hier satt und bekommt eine einzigartige Erfahrung geboten. Ich empfehle das Brot aus dem Holzkohle-Ofen .

Total disappointment. Got Aloo Chole that tasted bad. Not only was it objectively bland, it tasted like the chickpeas were old. My partner tasted it too and agreed. When I informed the waiter he started a discussion on how I would know how an Indian dish was supposed to taste like. I told him that I eat Indian food regularly and I've eaten food in Sri Lanka, if this is enough to qualify my dislike for their Aloo Chole? Then he said the cook was working there for over 30 years and never had a complaint. What am I supposed to reply to that? I'm not sending back food for fun. It does not bring me joy to do this and I feel uncomfortable doing it. That dish was bad and instead of helping to find a solution we got a discussion. The waiter then went to talk to the chef. He was gone for some time and I heard loud and angry voices from the kitchen. The waiter came back and told me they cook for German tastebuds and I should have told them beforehand that I want it spicy (this is not a spicy dish btw). They can take my dish back to the kitchen and spice it up. Sorry, I am not going to eat something from a cook that is apparently angry with me. You know why. I told him no and that I am done eating. When he brought the bill the Aloo Chole was on there. I refused to pay for it which caused another carfuffle and a telephone call with the owner. Seriously, the production cost of a simple chickpea and potato dish is no more than 3 Euros. The restaurant was completely empty. Why this customer unfriendly attitude? I don't get it.

Calcutta is a real gem among Indian restaurants. As soon as you enter you are warmly welcomed - the service is attentive, friendly and pleasantly reserved. Questions about the menu are answered competently, and special requests are no problem. My lamb curry was outstanding: tender meat in an aromatic, spicy sauce that was perfectly balanced. The freshly baked naan bread is simply great. The kitchen knows its craft and brings the diversity of Indian flavors authentically to the plate. The ambience is also convincing across the board. The warm colors, the calm atmosphere and, above all, the beautiful murals create an inviting and at the same time special atmosphere in which you immediately feel at home. An all-round great experience – I’ll definitely be back!

Great experience at Calcutta Restaurant! The service was excellent — super friendly and attentive team. The food was flavorful and well-prepared, definitely a step above your average spot. The only reason I’m giving 4 stars instead of 5 is that the portion sizes were a bit small for the price. Still, overall a very enjoyable meal — I’d go back!

Only the name is Indian, in colonial style: "Calcutta". Food and chai without any spices, but with lots of cream, does the neighborhood like that? The prices reflect the clientele. Bored waiter, how many years has he been doing an unloved job? Pleasant peace inside (at the end of lunchtime)

Simply. And spicy. Unpretentious and humble. That's how it should be.

A friend and I had a spontaneous meal here today. Spoiler: we could have saved ourselves that. The food was far too small and far too expensive. Ok, the proximity to the Ku'damm still has to be taken into account, but if I do that, my Chicken Tikka Classic will remain at almost €4 per piece of chicken. This is too much. The other portion wasn't any better either. The soup was OK, the naan was very, very good. Hence 2 points. The bahtura was very very bad. If we had eaten Indian food here for the first time today, we would never eat Indian food again. Fortunately, that is not true.

We enjoyed a great lunch with very friendly service. We'd love to come back.

It was my first time eating Indian food. And I used it on my Berlin vacation. It was also close to my accommodation. I had lamb with curry. It was very, very tasty. Friendly waiter. Clean restaurant. At first the portion looked pretty small, but it was more than enough. You also got rice. On my next visit to Berlin, I will make a detour again.

Food was average at best. Slow service. Boti kebab was chewy. Lamb bhuna was sweet. It was not at all spicy despite requesting it. The best thing was the tea and bhatura (which was nice of them to provide instead of rice as requested). It was a standard "indian" restaurant adapted to the German palette. I was expecting better from the oldest Indian restaurant in Germany. The name "Calcutta" is also misleading, and is a shame to the culinary legacy of Kolkata.

By far the best Indian restaurant in Berlin. Anyone who has ever been here will, for example, avoid the restaurant chains: cozy and atmospheric ambience, friendly service and excellent cuisine.

Good food and friendly staff. They have a big menu including a whole vegetarian section. The owner sat at different tables to chat a bit with the guests which was very nice and interesting.

We regularly go to Calcutta with our 8-year-old son and have never met a better Indian restaurant in Berlin. We live in the south of Berlin. But it's worth the half hour drive every time. The dishes are delicious, the family is very nice to deal with us. We always feel good. They also offer good wines. This is often not the case with many other Asian restaurants. We'll come again and again and again 😃 see you soon!!!!!

The food was rather in the lower middle range and the price-performance ratio simply wasn't right.

I have never tasted lamb so exquisitely seasoned and so well prepared! You can taste the fact that the meat was prepared over charcoal in a real tandoori oven, and a very subtle hint of smoke rounds everything off. The mint, coriander and chili sauce, which was served to us by the very friendly and courteous boss, is also great. The service was also very friendly. It was another special culinary experience! If you really want to enjoy Indian cuisine in Berlin, this is the right place for you!

Beyond a doubt the best Indian Restaurant I have been to, in all of my 10 years in Germany. Extensive menu, great taste, and an overall memorable experience. I ended up there again the very next day. My best compliments to the propreitress. The Samosas with the cashews are par excellence.

I went to this place with my family in May 2024 pathetic experience. People belong to India, selling and doing business in the name of India 🇮🇳 but the owner himself pitching bad and offensive vibes for the Indian government and in front of Germans. Very bad!! Also, they are highly looting people And forcing them to take extra dishes so that they earn money. Also they serve Biriyani with capsicum / green papirika.😂😂 Highly recommend please don't go to this restaurant.

The service is exemplary and the food is top quality. The ambience is calming, homely and classy. The owner is also a friendly and old-school vibes kinda person. I have eaten here exactly twice. Both times have been on the anniversary of my Dad's passing, spaced exactly one year apart. The experiences of both times have made a strong case for me to come back next year, which might officially make it a tradition if I am still in Berlin. :)

Went here going off the reviews which honestly must have been written by family or staff, has to be the worst restaurant of this type we have even been to and certainly overpriced for the quality, popadoms and Nan supermarket bought as with the mango sauce etc which had hairs in from probably the last customer, chicken not marinated just put in a wholesaler type base curry sauce at last minute and served, as curry lovers we were extremely disappointed and to make matters worse when went to pay the bill the bar area smelled of acrid body odour 🤢 seriously go elsewhere

A real gem in the area. 30 years of history. It scores perfect on food, service and ATMOSPHERE ( no place like it in Berlin) best Palak Panier ever. My Son (6) loves the dish until he discover his new fav - Rogan Josh! So much authentic dishes to choose from - Check out the desserts!! Not Boring!

Had a very pleasant dining experience here. I had booked for a table of one but did not feel lonely since the service was really friendly. Food was authentic, although would have loved it to be a bit more spicy (personal 'brown' preference 😋) Would definitely take another visit with friends and family.

We had chicken biriyani and butter naan at Calcutta restaurant and those were delicious. The owner was very friendly and we had a very pleasant chat after having food. We would highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely visit there once we are in Berlin again.

Ich bin zum zweiten Mal hier, ein schönes Restaurant, in dem es ruhig ist. Essen schmeckt ausgezeichnet, Bedienung war bislang immer freundlich. Bier wird so voll gemacht, dass es fast überläuft. Rundum zufrieden.

Overall a really nice place! The service was excellent 👌 We had the chicken korma which had a smokyish flavor which wasn't my favorite at first but after some time a nice touch! The chicken Tikka masala was really good!

The good was absolutely fantastic. So fresh and cooked to perfection. Highly recommend.

Heute, mit ein paar Tagen Abstand kann ich unseren Besuch vom 11. Oktober kann ich eine entsprechende Wertung geben. Wir, das sind zwei Paare die seit vielen Jahren das Restaurant Scheckheft des Tagesspiegel nutzen und dabei auch viele schöne Stunden verbracht haben. Der Besuch des Calcutta gehört leider nicht dazu. Über die zu wünschen lassende Qualität des Essens und das angestaubte Ambiente hätten wahrscheinlich hinweggesehen. Wir wären eben nicht wieder hier zu Gast gewesen. Aber der Service und der Inhaber setzen dem ganzen noch die Krone auf. Obwohl wir eine größere Rechnung ( 4 x Vorspeise, Hauptgang, Dessert und diverse Getränke) zu begleichen hatten, übersah der Kellner die Gutscheine des Tagesspiegel geflissentlich. Als wir dann beim Bezahlen nochmals darauf hinwiesen sagte er das sei alles schon gebucht und man kann das nicht mehr ändern. Er hatte bei der Rechnung ungefragt alles auf eine Rechnung gebucht. Er holte dann den Inhaber der es uns erklären sollte. Der Inhaber setze sich ungefragt an unseren Tisch und zeigte uns eine andere Rechnung von Gästen bei denen die Gutscheine in der Rechnung berücksichtigt waren. Kein Wort des Bedauern oder der Wille die Rechnung entsprechend zu reduzieren. Das Calcutta macht dem Tagesspiegel so keine Ehre.

Vældig god indisk restaurant med en meget venlig og service minded betjening. Vi ankom et lidt større selskab uden at have reserveret bord, og man fandt med lidt kreativitet plads til os bagerst i restauranten. Maden var meget velafbalanceret og krydret på den helt rette måde, og daal-suppen er i sig selv et besøg værd! Vi kommer helt sikkert forbi igen, næste gang vi er i Berlin!

Review of a Bengali guy: “Calcutta” Restaurant has nothing “Kolkata” about it. They claim to serve North Indian dishes.. but they fail at that too. Ridiculously pricy but all they do is mixing same curry with every dish. Absolute waste of money and time for me. I would recommend cooking at home than visiting this place.

Leider war das Essen geschmacklich eine Enttäuschung. Indisches Essen sollte zumindest etwas Schärfe haben und keinesfalls fad schmecken. Wer authentisches indisches Essen liebt, sollte sich besser ein anderes und vielleicht auch etwas günstigeres indisches Lokal suchen.

I don't know why it is called calcutta restaurant as there's nothing Bengali about this place including the staffs. It is an Indian restaurant with almost zero Indians visiting this place. There's a good white crowd, which leads the dishes taste more germanised. The staffs are cordial, food is good for anyone who do not belong to India and definitely not from Kolkata 😅.

Seit 1964 werden wir im Restaurant Calcutta mit traditionellen kulinarischen Besonderheiten aus verschiedensten Regionen Indiens verwöhnt. Die Speisekarte ist vielfältig, Fragen zu den Gerichten werden gerne beantwortet und das Essen kommt schnell. Eine Reservierung lohnt sich. Keurig restaurant. Uitgebreide kaart. Stoffen servetten altijd netjes. Wij hadden allebei een lekker spinazie curry. Met malse vlees en een vegetarische versie. Sfeervol opgediend. Neem geen espresso, dat kunnen ze niet klaar maken

Pontos positivos: a comida era muito boa, porém, pedimos um prato tipo „Lamm Korma“ que custava 20€ , vem pouca carne, sem a salada ou verduras, apenas arroz como acompanhamento. Eu achei bem mais caro, mas, com a mesma qualidade da maioria dos restaurantes indianos da região de savignyplatz. O ambiente é super acolhedor, espaçoso, e a cozinha é separada.

Ich kam um 22:20 ins Restaurant , die letzten Gäste waren gerade gegangen. Dennoch wurde ich herzlich und zuvorkommend bedient - so geht Gastfreundschaft! Das Essen (Tanduri Chicken Malai) war sehr lecker, die soße schmeckte angenehm frisch, das Naan-Brot war ofenwarm und lecker. Die Preise sind (nicht nur) für Berliner Verhältnisse ziemlich happig und vermutlich der Nähe zur Touri-Meile Ku'damm geschuldet. Alles in allem ein gutes Erlebnis. Danke.

Das bestellte Essen war nicht sehr spannend, die Preise waren dafür recht hoch. Der Service meint es vielleicht gut, war jedoch etwas aufdringlich und erst beim Bezahlen freundlicher. Wer die indische Küche mag, wird hier aber bestimmt etwas für sich finden.
