Cafe Ribatejo in Hamburg

The tapas we ordered were delicious, the service was friendly and attentive but not rushed, even though the restaurant was busy. It's not particularly large, but the atmosphere is charming and rustic.

We always enjoy being guests at Ribatejo because the service is incredibly warm and friendly, and it's so much fun. Our friends were also thrilled. We'll be back soon! 🤗

There's only one word for it: absolutely delicious!

Yesterday, we went to Café Ribatejo with the whole family and had fantastic tapas. They were so beautifully and diversely prepared, both hot and cold tapas of a truly high standard and truly delicious. The service was very friendly, and the ambiance was rustic and authentic. We were thrilled and will be back.

We celebrated our first wedding anniversary at Ribatejo and had received an €80 voucher from our parents for their wedding last year. We thought the food was delicious, the table service was also good, and we had a really lovely evening until we had to pay with the voucher. BUT CAUTION: We ate for €70.40 and had planned to tip the staff in cash (since they wouldn't have received the extra money if we had paid with the voucher). When we wanted to pay with it, the manager suddenly said, after consulting with them, that they couldn't issue us the remaining value of the voucher because they wouldn't issue vouchers for less than €10 and wouldn't pay us the money in cash. When I asked why that wasn't possible, since we still had almost €10 left, the server replied: "We normally use vouchers to pay 10% of the tip." I replied, "Well, we gave the tip to your colleague in cash so he could get some of it directly." I promptly received the reply, "Well, it wasn't 10%." Honestly, we found this statement really disappointing and quite cheeky. We would have loved to come back again with the remaining money from the voucher because we really enjoyed the atmosphere and the food. The bottom line was, I gave her 0.60 cents, and she gave us a voucher worth €10. Nevertheless, this whole thing really ruined what was actually a really nice evening. After tonight, we STRONGLY advise against getting a voucher for friends or family there and giving it away.

A cozy, feel-good place with good food and extremely friendly service.

There were four of us, and none of us particularly liked the food; some of the appetizers were either very salty or had very sour pickles. The portions were manageable. We remember the food as being better; perhaps it was just a bad day. The ambiance was pleasant, and the service was friendly.

Lively atmosphere, friendly service, delicious food.

A visit to Cafe Ribatejo is always like a mini-vacation: The delicious tapas (especially the flamed chouricos), the wine we chose beforehand at a wine tasting, the pasteis de nata for dessert, and the Macieira brandy as a nightcap put us in the holiday mood! The attentive staff also made us feel very welcome! One of my favorite places for years!

We were totally surprised by the variety and selection of fine homemade delicacies. The wine was also delicious. The chef is truly accommodating and hospitable.

I've been to this small tapas bar several times, and as a vegan and gluten-free eater, I've always "only" eaten the patatas arrugadas, but I was really happy with them. Yesterday, I was surprised to find new vegan and gluten-free dishes on the menu, like meatballs in tomato sauce. They were delicious! Highly recommended—even for allergy sufferers! 😋

It's really lovely here! I was here yesterday with my sons to watch football. The atmosphere was great, Portugal won the Nations League, and the food was truly delicious. The service is really friendly and professional. The place has a cozy atmosphere that makes you feel at home right away. The price/performance ratio is absolutely perfect, in my opinion. For under €30 plus a drink, you'll be full here. (Lunch is, of course, cheaper.) Highly recommended!

Ribatejo has a very special charm; the atmosphere and the people are wonderful. I haven't been here in a long time. On my last visit, I tried non-alcoholic wine, which was delicious. I found the food rather unspectacular. The vegetable tapas were somewhat similar, and the tomato sauce was okay, but it appeared in many combinations. A few dishes stood out to me, like the salmon.

The restaurant is very small, and the tables are very close together. The service was very friendly and quick. The selection of dishes was very good. If you've never had tapas before, this is a good introduction. But it's not typical Spanish or Portuguese cuisine; it lacks a bit of heat and spice. Because it's so small and cramped, it's also very loud when the restaurant is full. This is a big problem for people with hearing aids.

It's simply wonderful here, I now come regularly with friends and colleagues. The house wine is great and the tapas are tasty. The atmosphere is quaint and cozy. You feel comfortable here

This excellent location is located in the middle of the Ottensen area. An old blacksmith's shop with the appropriate charm and cobblestones inside is the place to find all the typical Portuguese specialties, Galao natas, various toast specialties as well as warm dishes, Portuguese wine does its part to round off the experience, beautiful interior and in the summer there is also an outdoor area.

After the good reviews we expected better. The ambience is nice, but the food is unspectacular and without spice, rather bland. The service was friendly but untrained and unavailable most of the time. Private conversations between the service staff took priority over serving guests. Too bad!

4 people, 90€, everyone was still hungry afterwards. Prices are cheeky, staff inexperienced and forgetful. Nevertheless, the kitchen did a good job, the food was delicious.

Die entspannte Atmosphäre hat uns sehr gut gefallen und besonders haben wir uns über den aufmerksamen und unaufdringlichen Service von Frido gefreut. Wir kommen gerne wieder.

Yesterday I had lunch with 8 people. I had asked for the daily menu to be sent to my cell phone beforehand so that we could choose the food for everyone in advance. - The menu came, we ordered and then ate there. Great service: nice, fast and reliable. Food was great, especially in terms of value for money. Everyone was happy!

Quaint restaurant, very tasty food. Lots of vegetarian tapas on the menu. Good red house wine. It is advisable to reserve. Parking spaces are practically non-existent.

This was recommended to us by the lovely people who own the souvenir store nearby (elbstolz - check them out!) and it was one of the best meals we had during our trip to Europe. The calamari and croquettes were especially good, and the server was lovely and patient as we attempted to order from an all-German menu in English. :)

I've been here many times and enjoyed being there so far. The food and atmosphere are still good. A waiter was very nice and friendly. Unfortunately, another waiter completely spoiled the evening: derogatory looks, no service and inappropriate comments - really unpleasant as a person. This experience changed my mind and I will neither visit nor recommend the restaurant in the future.

Unfortunately the taste is just mediocre. Prices very high for the small tapas portions (approx. 9 euros and more per portion). I would have expected more for that.

The food was very, very good, authentic and reasonably priced for tapas (as we wannabe Spaniards also say when speaking to the Portuguese). Family-friendly, really nice service - it was our first, but definitely not our last visit there!

Ich habe vorher die Bewertungen gelesen undmir ist schleierhaft,wie gute Bewertungen zustande kommen .Ein Tapas Teller für 3 Personen mit Fisch und Fleisch braucht nach meiner Vorstellung ,schon etwas mehr als einen Löffel Thunfisch aus der Dose und drei Würfel Puten oder Hühnerfleisch in kalter Tomatensoße. Das Gemüse war okay,schmeckte aber ,wie aus dem Supermarkt. Da war nichts frisch!Für 28,00 Euro, entschieden zu teuer!

We spent a couple of super evenings here-one watching Football on the street in a big group of Euros fans and then returning to have a long and satisfying meal a couple days later. The food and service are fantastic but the real pleasure was being welcomed so generously and made to feel at home in this excellent corner of Hamburg. Make sure you tip these lovely people very well!

We were staying in Altona at the start of Euro 2024 for the first game in Hamburg. After watching the match, we headed here, and it was absolutely brilliant. The staff were friendly and attentive even though we couldn't speak German or Spanish. We were even given a different table so we could watch the football, which was nice. The menu was incredible, and every bit of food was delivered fresh and hot. It was all delicious. Very glad we stumbled upon this gem and would recommend it to anyone in Hamburg.

We were at this restaurant in the early evening. As the evening progressed, the store became noticeably full. There were also Portuguese people coming to eat, which for me is always an indication of very good, authentic cuisine. We chose tapas. No matter what it was, it was delicious. The restaurant offers indoor and outdoor seating in a cozy atmosphere. The staff is friendly, but definitely struggling, as this place is very well known and therefore full. It's all the more positive that, despite the sometimes enormous crowds, the food is delicious and prepared with a lot of love, as if you were the only guest there. I will definitely take a look again.

Delicious tapas of various kinds

Staff were very accommodating and friendly even on a busy night when they were rushing around like wild geese. The food was both authentic and delicious. The portion sizes were not huge but at the same time with 4 dishes between two we were satisfied. Octopus was the highlight for me, and I would recommend anyone to visit

Great shop with very tasty food - there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. In some cases the timing could be improved a bit. The cold tapas from the cabinet came later than the warm ones from the kitchen. That's a bit of a shame. The service could be a little more attentive, but with only 2 service staff it was ok, but just understaffed.

Little fanfare, but just good food.

The food was very tasty and the drinks were also good. Only the staff took some getting used to. You had to go out of your way to be served. You can really feel the lack of staff there.

We always enjoyed coming here in the past, but after today's experience, I can unfortunately no longer recommend it: small portion, for 2 small tomatoes stuffed with spinach €9.20, my feedback wasn't really heard either and only with the general price increase blocked. Plus the massive noise level because there are far too many tables in the small room. We actually had to shout at each other, but the people sitting next to us at the table could hear everything from nearby.

It was a great evening at this cute Portuguese eatery! The food was delicious, the waitresses were very accommodating and the boss was very kind in explaining some Portuguese words to you if you asked. A little tip: reserve in advance! It was really full and new guests kept coming in until late in the evening to fill up the vacant seats. So if you want to be sure that you can enjoy the incredibly delicious tapas, it's better to call ahead.

The food was incredibly delicious as always! Unfortunately the service leaves a lot to be desired. Even though there were only 3 tables occupied, the two waitresses just stood in the corner and chatted the whole time... we could only take orders when they briefly walked past us and the orders were always brought incomplete, so we kept getting up and had to ask. Unfortunately, the reaction was always snippy. Unfortunately it was very un-relaxing and very annoying considering the prices, as you were hoping for a nice and relaxing evening. The loud electronic music in the background was also very disturbing..

Small, rustic shop in Ottensen with little niches to sit in in a rustic atmosphere. We made a reservation for 4 people on a Friday at 6:30 p.m. We were offered half of the large table right next to the entrance door on one side and the steps to the kitchen serving area and the second dining room on the other. We sat on benches and there was hectic activity in front of, behind and next to us. You could hardly concentrate on your own conversation. Tip: This table should at best be reserved for walk-in customers. Reservations should be organized differently in advance; perhaps you don't reserve the entire store. The service employee also had to ask several times when ordering because we couldn't be understood. Service: the employees were friendly but unfortunately not attentive and not necessarily competent. Dishes that were no longer available (at 6:30 p.m. on a Friday, mind you) were not mentioned, such as nata tarts, which should always be available in sufficient quantities at a Portuguese restaurant. Reorders of wine were forgotten, as were menus, and the so-called dessert menu included coffee specialties and nightcaps and breakfast (?) but unfortunately no desserts. They were now on the main menu, but the employees apparently didn't know that. The cooks, in turn, "joked around" by shooting each other with empty Bunsen burners for flambéing food like pistols. It doesn't work at all. Food: great wine, super well chilled white wine and rose. We had ordered a selection of warm tapas/dishes. These arrived promptly and were of good quality. Portion size was good too. Instead of leg of lamb there were lamb chops, which unfortunately weren't very tasty. Gambas and stuffed pimentos were very tasty and are recommended. The salmon skewer with zucchini looked great and was tasty - but not a revelation either. Stuffed tomatoes and calamari were good, the goat cheese gratinated with honey and rosemary was very tasty, but carelessly prepared. After all, the eye is there. Coffee after the meal was very good and nice and hot, the Crema Catalana is also recommended. Overall: we don't understand the hype surrounding this store. All in all, average food and there is still a lot of room for improvement when it comes to customer service. There are much better Portuguese restaurants and tapas shops in Hamburg. We were happy to try it out, but we won't be coming back and won't recommend it because we didn't have a nice evening. We were missing coziness, flair and employees who live their job.

I went to Cafe Ribatejo for the first time on a Saturday evening following a recommendation and was not disappointed. It's a charming, lively tapas restaurant with an interesting wine selection, friendly and cheerful service and reasonable value for money. I would best describe the ambience as “individual”, but it fits the restaurant perfectly. It's a bit noisy at times but on the other hand you don't go to the restaurant to sleep. I will definitely come again!

Ein kleineres altes, uriges, rustikales u gemütliches Restaurant mit Charme. Sehr freundliches u junges Personal. Tapas super lecker. Das einzige Manko ist wenn vorne oder hinten die Tür aufgeht im Herbst Winter kann es etwas frisch werden wenn man in der Nähe sitzt. Sonst alles super. LG I.D.

Das erstemal in dem Restaurant gewesen. Und wir waren sehr überrascht vom super Service und dem leckeren Essen 😋.War bestimmt nicht das letzte Mal das wir da waren.

Dieses Lokal kann man nur empfehlen: Die Speisen schmecken ausgezeichnet. Allerdings gibt es fast nur Tapas und nur eine sehr kleine Auswahl warmer Hauptgerichte. Das Brot, was zu den Tapas gereicht wird, ist zwar nicht schlecht, jedoch sind es Aufback-Baguettes der Handelsware eines großen Einzelhandelskonzerns. Sehr gut hat uns das Ambiente gefallen: Trotz einfacher Ausstattung wirkt alles sehr gemütlich. Man fühlt sich wie im Urlaub. Sehr hervorzuheben ist der Service: Alle Mitarbeitenden sind sehr aufmerksam, freundlich und "locker". Beeindruckend ist auch die Wein-Auswahl: exzellente portugiesische, spanische und deutsche Winzer-Weine in großer Auswahl zu - naja - akzeptablen Preisen. Wir werden gerne wieder hereinschauen.

Wow! Selten so gut und in einem so tollen Ambiente gegessen. Hier passt einfach alles. Tolle Bedienung, stilvolles Restaurant und absolut leckeres Essen. Achtung! Unbedingt reservieren.
