I was in the area for business. The café was a pleasant surprise: I could sit outside, the service was friendly and prompt, and the food was excellent. I'd be happy to come back.

We discovered it by chance and stopped in just for a coffee. We've become almost regulars now. We've eaten there several times (some with friends). The food is excellent, and the service and ambiance leave nothing to be desired. In the summer, a beer garden invites you to linger.

The tangerine cake is a poem. Truly the best I've ever eaten. Keep it up and see you soon!!!

How many times have we driven past here? How many times haven't we stopped in here? Countless missed opportunities. Today, after visiting the flea market with my daughter, it was more of a coincidence, as we had entered a different destination into Aunt Google. As I drove past, I saw the restaurant again, so we quickly looked for a parking space on the side street and found it. The ambiance on the outdoor terrace immediately appealed to us, and we headed straight for the cozy seating area. The summer vegetation absorbed the noise from the street and didn't bother us too much. A look inside revealed a chic and modern interior. Not too cluttered and somehow cozy. I particularly liked the ramp, which also provided barrier-free access to the back of the restaurant, where the very large tables were located. It's a shame the restroom was only accessible via stairs. Speaking of restrooms, I could actually only find one stall in the women's restroom. It's probably a bit too few for larger events. It could have been a bit more modern, and the toilet seat was crooked. But the toilet was very clean. Everything else is just nitpicking. A look at the menu was surprising. There were small dishes for under €10, as well as a steak for €30, which is perfectly acceptable these days. A half-liter of beer costs €5.50, and a cappuccino, a large cup, costs €3.80, so it's also perfectly fine. I can't say how much the cakes cost, but honestly... The cake is also absolutely PRICELESS. 😋❤️😋❤️😋 I had the pistachio chocolate cake and my daughter had the puff pastry with strawberries and vanilla cream. All the cakes are homemade. While they were already eye-catching in the display case, they became a work of art on the plate, as all the cakes are not specially prepared by the lady of the house. Needless to say, the cakes were absolutely delicious. We will definitely be coming back here again, especially because we'd like to try the other dishes as well, as everything that was brought to our tables looked delicious and very lovingly prepared. We're already looking forward to our next visit.

We stopped here on a bike tour and had a drink. The staff was very friendly and the beer was nice and cold.

Unfortunately, I was disappointed with my visit to the Orchidee café and restaurant. The service was not as expected. When I placed my order I was treated rudely. In addition, the change was roughly placed on the table. I hope that in the future the café will place more emphasis on treating guests in a friendly and respectful manner.

A lovely little cafe/ restaurant. They squeezed us in to a very busy room and looked after us well. We had breakfast which was lovely and plentiful. The service was top and professional 👌. I will definitely return.

We regularly go there after a long walk on the slag heap. The cake is always beautifully presented and tastes absolutely delicious. The service is always very friendly and always with a smile. For us, it's the best café in the area and the best cake you can find.

Delicious burger and fantastic fries, my wife's currywurst was also very good. I think the best fries I've eaten so far. We sat outside and you have to say you can't ignore the main street. Nevertheless, we would definitely come back for the food.

On June 25th I went on a long bike ride from A to B to pick something up on the way back and passed the orchid and despite the closed company I was able to sit outside and have a small healthy meal which was also necessary to get further where I wanted to go and also to have a nice meal To spend the afternoon that day.

The cakes were very tasty and high quality. The café is a good place to take a walk to Hohewardhalde. Due to the proximity to the main road, it is unfortunately too loud for me on the terrace.

All I can say is: WOW! I didn't eat on site, but I took slices of cake with me. The cakes are quite expensive so I expect the taste to match and I wasn't disappointed. The cakes taste really excellent. As I found out, they are homemade and I have to say, yes, they taste like classic homemade cakes: good, fluffy bases and buttery, melty (but not solid) cake mixture in between. I hope that it stays that way and that the quality is not optimized away! The ambience is great! There is nothing wrong with the service.

After reading the owner's reaction, I have to give it 1 star. As already described, the staff is too unfriendly. Unfortunately the wait is too long for the food... The place looks ok but that's it. And now to the owner “Naim” what do I know: Accepting criticism and appreciating it is one thing, but I won't tolerate calling your customers "ridiculous" and "annoying." I can tell from your tone that you are not German by birth and if you are, the way you talk is more than embarrassing. I think you'll go broke in 2024. P.S. Yesterday we had breakfast there for the first time but certainly not the last time, hats off, lots of choice on the breakfast menu. The price-performance ratio is really great for what you get. Sit down and feel good - that's how the day starts well Next time we get a chance we'll try the rest of the menu, it also looked very promising. And you could see the super great cakes 🎂 in a glass cabinet when I went to the toilet, it's just a shame that I was so full from the extensive breakfast. So I'll try the 🎂 again. Thank you very much for a really nice stay :-)

A solid 5 out of 5 stars from me/us in practically all categories! I was there today (Easter Sunday) from Bochum with my mother after a walk at Lake Ewald in Herten and it was a complete success. The building is very nice with outside dining, candles on the tables inside and everyone is really friendly. :) That's ideally how you imagine it. The service was also very fast and as soon as we walked in we were immediately greeted in a friendly manner at the door and, even without a reservation, were directed to a specific table by the window, which was very nice (and actually reserved). The cake was well above average, very tasty and, as I later found out, made by the mother herself (which you could tell). The coffee (crema) in the large cup was also delicious. We were served by a lovely young lady who, like her colleagues (or possibly brothers and partners), was extremely friendly and sweet. One of the gentlemen immediately offered my (now elderly) mother the "disabled" toilet, which was accessible on the ground floor, along with a key, which I also found very nice. Otherwise it would have been difficult for her to get down the stairs (only up a few steps) to the basement. The price of €7.50 per person for a large piece of (homemade) cake/tart including a large cup of crema is absolutely reasonable in this day and age. The cake was even presented like a dessert in a restaurant (fruit syrup decoration plus whole fruit on the plate! In my case raspberries), which particularly surprised and delighted me. I therefore also promised that, contrary to my usual habit, I would write a review on the Internet again in this case because I think that special things should be praised and highlighted. People tend to complain excessively online, often in completely unfounded cases, and I don't take part in that. So if you're in the Ewald Lake area and are looking for a nice café afterwards, you've come to the right place. :) Therefore, as always, when I particularly liked a restaurant, today I would like to give you (as always positive) feedback and once again a huge thank you to the extremely nice young lady. :-) About the equipment: Child-friendliness: High chair available in the stairwell (just ask if needed, I guess). Barrier-free: Accessible at ground level, toilet also available outside at ground level if required (ask for key from staff). Parking: There is a larger parking lot in front of the building and 3 parking spaces (near the entrance) are reserved directly for guests. When we arrived they were all free and when we left they were all occupied. I also saw a bus stop in front of the property (I think it's "Herner Straße", which runs in front of it). So in short: If you don't feel comfortable there, it's your own fault. ;-)

We recommend! We had breakfast there and were pleasantly surprised. We were greeted warmly and immediately felt at home in the great atmosphere. I also have to mention the child-friendliness again. There are several choices on the breakfast menu. There was something for everyone, fresh, crispy and delicious. The price-performance ratio is also good. We would love to have breakfast here again. The lunch menu also included delicious dishes such as steaks etc. But also cakes for coffee time. This definitely needs to be tested!

I have breakfast there with 10-14 women every 4 weeks. Always very tasty. The owner serves himself. Very nice, helpful and accommodating. Always my pleasure.

The dishes were quite expensive for the portion, which means the price-performance ratio wasn't quite right, but I was very satisfied with all the other things. Although you can't pay with a card, you can pay quickly and easily with Paypal, something I've never experienced in any restaurant before.

Sind mit dem Rad dort eingekehrt. Die Preise fanden wir teilweise sehr hoch...bzw überteuert. Mein Salat mit Rindfleisch war zwar lecker...aber das Dressing war so wenig, dass ich der Annahme war, es wurde vergessen. Als ich dies ansprach, bot mir der Kellner netterweise an, noch Dressing nachzubringen. Auch diese Portion war sehr sparsam. Wenn man die Preise betrachtet, finde ich persönlich zwei Dressings sehr dürftig ( Balsamico und Joghurt). Hätte mir da so etwas wie Honig-Senf...etc gewünscht. Personal wirkte etwas überfordert ( mein Dressing wurde dann doch vergessen und der Tisch wurde auf meine Bitte erst abgewischt )...es war aber auch wirklich sehr voll. Fazit: Essen lecker, nur teilweise überteuert, Personal sehr freundlich...Ambiente ganz schön.

heerlijk tentje wel 10 min. van de snelweg af. Maar zoveel beter als een raststatte. Goed schaduwrijk terras, gevarieerde kaart. Mooie taarten gezien maar helaas niet geproeft, wij waren er voor de lunch. Ruime parkeerplaatsen.

Das Restaurant - Orchidee - ist ein schöner Rückzugsort. Die 20 Minuten Fahrt lohnen sich immer wieder. Das Essen ist einfach nur Lecker! Das Ambiente ist gemütlich und erholsam. Die netten Mitarbeiter und die Inhaber runden den Besuch ab. Einfach erholsam! 🥰 Mein kleiner schwärmt nur von den Penne Medititeran! Ich empfehle Euch den leckeren Spargel…. 😋 Wir sehen uns wieder! 😊

Waren heute Morgen spontan da nach einem Ausflug auf der halde der Kaffee und vor allem auch der Kakao sowie die frische Schwarzwälder Torte der ich nicht wiederstehen konnte waren sehr lecker und zu empfehlen wir werden devenitiv wieder kommen und das Personal war sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend

Nach einem Spaziergang an der Halde ein MUSS! Getränke und das Essen wurden schnell zum Tisch gebracht. Das Steak war auf dem Punkt gebraten! Auch der Deutsche Spargel war perfekt. Die Mitarbeiter waren sehr freundlich und auch hilfsbereit meiner Oma gegenüber! Ein Rollstuhl war für alle kein Problem. Auch für die Kinder gab es beim rausgehen Schokolade. Wir sehen uns wieder! Danke für den schönen Sonntag. Ach und der selbstgemachte Kuchen… 😋

Ich war am Wochenende das erst mal im Cafe zum Frühstück. Auf jeden Fall werde ich wieder kommen,dann aber zum Mittagessen. Deshalb gebe ich jetzt nur 4Sterne.
