What more can one say about a permanent fixture in Darmstadt's culinary scene? Breakfast until late at night, top-notch. Pizza and other food are good. Cakes and tarts are a must. A pleasant place for all ages. Tables cannot be reserved and are usually full. The service is as diverse as the clientele. Card payments are now accepted 🥳

This chaos has existed for more than four decades. In my opinion, that alone is a solid statement about what's on offer. I had breakfast here with my daughter, and the selection offers everything you could need for breakfast. The price/performance ratio is good, and the service is super friendly and super fast. Only the baked rolls spoil my impression, because they detract from the quality of what's on offer... But I'd be happy to come back here again 😊

This café is truly an institution in Darmstadt! Consistently good quality for many, many years, with a casual and cozy atmosphere and fair prices. The food is always fresh and appetizingly presented. The selection is enormous, especially the all-day breakfast menu is fantastic. Service is dynamic and attentive. A meeting point for a diverse clientele, which makes it very inviting. The large terrace is fantastic!

Pizza dough as hard as the cobblestones of Darmstadt, I'd say inedible.

For so many years, this has been the best place in Darmstadt for me for delicious food, the best cakes, and the friendliest service. The quality is still absolutely top-notch even after more than 20 years. The food comes very quickly, considering you don't get frozen ready-made food here. On top of that, it's super delicious, the portions are absolutely adequate, and the prices are absolutely fair. 10 out of 5 stars.

Decent service, cool atmosphere, good beer

A lovely Darmstadt pub with a diverse clientele and a menu reminiscent of the 90s. Everything tastes good. Very friendly service, and you don't have to wait long for drinks or food.

€5.10 for a spritzer is really too much... so no one needs to come to me with increased personnel and raw material costs anymore... That's just extortion.

I only heard of Café Chaos, but I visited today. I'll be back. The waffle with fresh fruit was amazing. I've been there several times now and the service has always been super friendly. And the food is excellent. Nice atmosphere in the evenings too. Highly recommended.

Place is good, yet if you value your time, don't bother

It's been an institution for me in Darmstadt for many years! A timeless concept, and I personally really appreciate how easy it is to strike up a conversation with your tablemates and simply enjoy the time together at Cafe Chaos. The staff is always extremely friendly and accommodating. The pizza tastes great, as do the other dishes, and where else can you have breakfast until late at night? I always enjoy coming back.

The water is as crisp as if it came from a mountain stream. By God, the best water in years, so juicy, cold, and clear. I'm in love. By the way, the food is also amazing 💣 Great that it's always open and you can spend very cozy evenings. My favorite café since I was a child. The restrooms are a must-visit. Highly recommended!

Always worth a visit! Café Chaos with its Automaton Museum, even if you have to go to the restrooms (you usually have to go 😀). We like going there, often for coffee and cake, but also in the evening with friends for a beer or a cocktail.

Nice alternative café, good, attentive service. But... the food isn't contemporary and has been the same for years. The quality and taste are only 5 out of 10. The café used to be known for its cakes and tarts. Today, the selection is small, and the taste is nothing special. The restrooms are also a complete disaster. It's best not to go in. You can sit outside and relax, but the chairs are missing cushions, for example. Conclusion: Great location, but there's still a lot of room for improvement in everything else.

We ordered three drinks and a meal. After about 60 minutes of waiting, we canceled the food because it was still being prepared. It was a complete disappointment, and I absolutely cannot recommend this cafe. It used to be much better.

We've been a regular guest since 1993, especially outdoors in the summer. Café Chaos is an institution in Darmstadt.

We'd actually planned to have a leisurely meal before our appointment in Darmstadt, but things got a bit hectic. Starting with the fact that only cash payments were accepted and I had to find the nearest ATM (about 700 m away), we waited forever for our food. The server's surprised question about whether we hadn't received our food yet prompted a search. Our pizzas were found in the oven, slightly charred... They had been forgotten during the "shift handover"... The promised 9 minutes turned out to be 15...

A Darmstadt institution that will still look the same in 2025 as it did when I was a student in the late 1980s. You can still get a good breakfast and friendly service.

Extremely cozy. Chaos has been around forever; it's an institution not just for students—truly, everyone comes here. The handwritten, no, scribbled menu offers many simple dishes and snacks, as well as breakfast from morning to night, and the waiters are friendly, relaxed, and attentive; they know their stuff. I always enjoy coming here.

We were curious about Café Chaos, but unfortunately the visit disappointed us. The food was fine – not a revelation, but solid. The drinks, on the other hand, seemed stale, which rather spoiled the overall impression. Things got really annoying when paying: card payment? None! With the note “I have never done this in 42 years.” So we were first allowed to drive 2 km to get cash. This is simply no longer appropriate in a café in 2025. What should be highlighted positively, however, is the service: despite everything, the staff was friendly, and at my request I was even allowed to charge my smartphone - that was very accommodating. Conclusion: With a little more modernity and a fresher offering, the café would definitely have potential. Unfortunately, it remains more of a nostalgic journey through time with obstacles.

Café Chaos has really not lost its old charm and is always worth a visit. Whether sitting outside in the sun or in the time-honored interior with lots to see, enjoying breakfast or other numerous dishes is simply fun. On the way to the toilets there are a lot of vending machines, like those you know from “earlier times”. These are intact and are partly equipped with all sorts of this and that. The service is also very friendly and accommodating and definitely deserves 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The audience is mixed, more likely to be part of the student scene, alternative. I didn't discover any hipsters or divas 😀 But they are certainly welcome there too. Conclusion: all in all, a really great, cozy cafe where you, from grandchildren to grandma, like to spend time, have a great time and feel completely at home🤩

My wife and our eleven-month-old daughter spontaneously stopped by Café Chaos today (April 18, 2025) after we visited the Art Nouveau pool. The café with warm food almost around the clock is a quaint, very cozy café in which young and old, young and old can find a cozy place! My wife had the cheese spaetzle and was very impressed by the delicious taste of the cheese spaetzle! I had the “Wiesomix” pizza and the pizza was also super tasty and had more than enough toppings! For dessert we both had the waffles with ice cream and here too the wait for dessert was worth it! All dishes are absolutely recommended! We visited without a reservation and were able to sit at a table with other guests, which is absolutely normal in this café! Our daughter was also provided with crayons and a coloring pad. None of the guests or employees felt bothered by this and the three of us felt very comfortable! The service staff was very friendly and open-minded and very attentive! The price-performance ratio for the great quality of the food is absolutely fair! We would love to come back! Thank you for this great experience! Daniel Vilic

One of the most unique cafes I have been to. A must if you are visiting Darmstadt. Amazing food, soothing vibe and the place takes u back in time.

Friendly service, large, colorful selection of drinks and food and delicious cakes. Breakfast is served from early to late and the prices are absolutely fair. I like to come here as a regular guest. In summer, the outdoor area is great for enjoying the weather.

The menus are extremely confusing and the food and drinks are all mixed up. The cards are written by hand and cannot be read without glasses.

Delicious food, nice staff, numerous chewing gum, food, knickknack sales car mats... Good mix of students, the young at heart, bon vivants and normal citizens...

Always been there as a child and is still one of the quaint cafés in Darmstadt today. The service is always polite and the food is delicious. Warm food is also available late at night :)

Extraordinary, but still something for everyone. The particularly distinctive menu allows even the most divisive guest to find something to eat, from pizza to tapas, cheese spaetzle or breakfast in the evening, everything is possible. In terms of price, we are in the completely reasonable middle class. The atmosphere is quaint and cozy, but you shouldn't be put off sharing a table with strangers as it is often busy in the evening. A particular highlight are the diverse machines with their content, which can sometimes be out of the norm. Clear recommendation for any discordant group, or anyone who just wants to enjoy their evening without a plan.

Disgraceful service: December 16, 2024 / 6 p.m., shift change: I am asked to pay my order in advance... I refuse. The problem: Food is being served and an uninvolved employee sitting at the counter with a laptop intervenes with the words "AFFIG"... I responded accordingly angrily. What's the point... respect for older people is probably unnecessary here...!?

Quaint café and slot machine museum (and bar and much more, but we were only there for breakfast), very authentic! Relaxed staff, audience from young to old and very tasty food - lovingly prepared! The only small minus: only cash payment - generally not a problem, you just have to know beforehand.

I love chaos coffee. It is definitely one of my favorite places in Darmstadt. The service is 99% of the time excellent, even when there are many customers and the waiters have a lot to do. Sometimes my food has not arrived as I wanted (for example, something burnt or meaty) and the waiters always respond well and attend to my requests with great dedication. The food is very delicious, the price-quality ratio is definitely beneficial for the customer. The portions are large and very good. I love the variety on the menu. My favorites and recommendations are the Flammkuchen, the Bratkartoffeln and the Käsespätzle ;) The beer and wine are ok, good accompaniment. Kuchen and coffee also very delicious. Highly recommended!!!

I've often been to Cafe Chaos, I think it's so great here, it's a great atmosphere even if it gets crowded sometimes, especially at the weekend. Nevertheless, everyone is in a good mood. Simple cuisine with fair prices. But you can miss Pite. Will definitely come back.

One of the coolest cafes in Darmstadt, where the owner has restored and installed old vending machines that now contain a smorgasbord of things you can buy there. These are constantly refilled, e.g. with sweets, finger puppets, toiletries, but also small toys for kids such as cars and other knick-knacks. For that alone it's worth walking down the somewhat narrow, winding stairs to the toilet and marveling at the wall of the vending machines. ;D I've known the café since I was in high school because they always met study groups from our school there because there are very nice niches. In general, there is always a lot going on here and you have to look for a place. But the people are super nice and the large tables also offer space for large groups. I can highly recommend the cakes there - I had a pistachio cake which was delicious. You can also buy a T-shirt with the print there and I'm still fascinated by the self-cleaning toilet seats that you'd find in gas stations, but I've only seen them in a café.

Always an experience, great café with fast staff

We ate at Cafe Chaos today. Chaos as the store says. Sunday would always be busy. If that's the case, then I have to prepare for it and not let the chaos out on the guests. The waiters couldn't handle criticism at all. Food wasn't good either. Just chaos. So for me it was the last time I was there.

I didn't have a good experience. It was actually just a short contact with an invoice that took my feet away a bit. I found a 0.4l wine spritzer for 9.80 euros (as of 10/2024) to be extremely expensive. To the credit of the waitress, she definitely had a guilty conscience and was overwhelmed with delivering the calculation model. The bill from the boss, who I didn't know, probably looked like this: Riesling 0.2 l 4.90 (as far as OK) Riesling spritzer 0.2 l also 4.90 (well... water=wine?) Water 0.3 l approx. 2.60 Riesling spritzer 0.4l = 2x 4.90 euros If you're a little too enterprising, you can expect it to be that way. 0.2 liters of Riesling + a water wouldn't have been snapper, but at least it would have been closer to reality. Just blaming it on the name (Cafe Chaos) seems to me to be falling short. Perhaps, as a Rhine-Hesse man, I was a bit too daring to order a dry wine spritzer there. If you are asked about it, I think you can correct an error in pricing. Unfortunately the opportunity was not taken.

Café Chaos has been around for more than 40 years and has delicious food at affordable prices. A real Darmstadt institution with customer-friendly opening times: you can have a delicious spaghetti or simply have a drink from morning until late in the evening. What's always a bit of a shame: reservations are not possible (so it's difficult to meet other people there because often nothing is free) and card payments are not possible (so you have to go to an ATM first, withdraw it, give them the money and they pay Then put it back into your machine. Hard work. If you can put up with it, Café Chaos is a real recommendation!

Dear Madam and Mr. Chaos, During our visit to your establishment today, there was no mention of the term “chaos” at all - everything was perfectly organized: for example, the food ordered at different times arrived at exactly the same time (hot and tasty), and the smart service was Maxi (second day of training). Perfectly prepared for all exotic special requests and remained friendly at all times despite being rude. A very special experience - we'll be back!
