Cafe Bistro Novus in Mannheim

The Novus breakfast was decorated with wilted, even dripping lettuce leaves. The salmon wasn't the best, and the typical, slimmed-down additions didn't even come close to justifying the price/performance ratio. The scrambled eggs came without bacon, although the menu listed it as included. The waitress was more concerned with decorating, cleaning, and chatting, mostly somewhere in the background. With six guests, there really wasn't much to do, and the response and interest were zero. It's a shame; we remembered it much better.

Sunday Buffet (10 a.m.-3 p.m.) - Value for money is okay - Food is good to very good - Server (tall/curly hair/slim) is very friendly and accommodating - One star deduction, however, is for a 1 1/2-year-old girl paying full price for a pretzel with two slices of cucumber. It doesn't have to be free, for God's sake, but when you see what adults sometimes eat for that money, I find it simply inappropriate. Nevertheless, we would come again. Sincerely

We were very well looked after. The menu is varied and caters to all tastes. It's a very nice place, with special offers on weekends, such as a breakfast buffet. It's also very easy to find and has a huge selection of cocktails.

Went there for brunch. Great and varied selection of products. It was really delicious. I'd go back anytime. The only downside: the buffet isn't ideally positioned in the room. If there are a lot of people queuing, it's almost impossible to get through. PS: The scrambled eggs were delicious. It's just a shame that the portions at our table (reserved at 10 a.m.) were so much smaller than the portions at the table next door (12 p.m.) 😉

Visit Novus very often on weekends with friends. There's not too much going on, which is great if you spontaneously need a table for 6-8 people. Very large selection of cocktails that all taste great :) Food is also very convincing.

I had dinner at Novus with a friend on Saturday evening because we had only heard good things about it. Unfortunately we were disappointed. The food was okay, my friend's fries were mostly raw and the schnitzel was very difficult to cut. My spaetzle and my cordon bleu were okay, but they could also be worse. We then drank cocktails that I would have given 4 stars. However, we always had to wait a long time until we were served and sometimes had the feeling of being forgotten. But the food was delivered very quickly. We actually reserved for 4 hours because we wanted to celebrate our exams a bit, but left after two hours because we really weren't happy with the all-round package.

Our first port of call in Mannheim city center for years. We always like to come, great food, atmosphere and friendliness. There is also space for a stroller. I can only recommend it!

In itself a great and, above all, very cozy restaurant that we have enjoyed visiting again and again over the years. Unfortunately, last time in December 2024, the price/performance ratio for the veggie wrap was no longer right. On the one hand, the price screw was turned and at the same time the portion size was shrunk. The fries in particular were practically hand-picked (also with the veggie burger), which is a shame..! What unfortunately also caught the eye negatively was the condition of the sanitary facilities in the basement. The cleanliness should urgently be improved here (especially with the hand dryers).

We have been coming here for quite a long time and have always been very satisfied. Unfortunately we had no luck at all today! There were 6 of us and we all ordered spare ribs. There were 4 salads, 4 plates of spare ribs where not even the waitress could figure out how many grams were on each plate and 4 baked potatoes. If requested, the two salads and the baked potatoes would be added later. Unfortunately no corn on the cob! So I definitely know it differently. Apparently there are no more corn on the cob but it says so on the menu.

Food was quite tasty, although not world class. The service was great. Unfortunately the volume was very annoying. Conversations hardly possible.

Brilliant. I came here with some friends while visiting here, and it's amazing. Delicious and cheap typical German food. I really recommend it 100%. It also has a very good atmosphere.

Der Service war freundlich und schnell. Das Essen war bei beiden Hauptspeisen allerdings eine Katastrophe. Paniertes Putenschnitzel aus der Fritteuse, mit leichtem Fischgeschmack. Die Bratkartoffeln öltriefend. Der Salat reine Deko, nicht essbar. Steht da wirklich ein ausgebildeter Koch in der Küche? Sorry, unterirdisch!

We were there for Sunday brunch. A total of eight, including two children (5 & 11). The kids could eat for free. The food was nothing special, but there should be something for everyone. From savory to sweet, everything was available and there was plenty to choose from. Drinks were available according to the menu. The service was very friendly and competent. I really liked the atmosphere. We were there for a good two hours. We were not forced to leave, even though we took a break from eating.

We've been there twice now, and each time the service staff are super friendly and customer-oriented. E.g. We had reserved for 4, but then we also had a child with us. No problem at all for the staff, a table was added. Top

I ended up here by chance and since I was here on business I was completely alone. Can sometimes feel a bit strange in a restaurant, but not here for a second. Got a great table close to the bar. Lively bistro with a nice atmosphere. Mojito was on the sign outside as a promotion for 6 euros. It was delicious😉 Service by two young men and two young ladies: it ran smoothly and was super attentive. My steak mushroom with grilled vegetables, mushroom sauce and fried potatoes: great. My primitivo rosé: top. Prices: top. Come back tomorrow😁

The Novus is a nice restaurant with quite a few seats. Unfortunately, the background noise is very loud, making it a bit uncomfortable to have a conversation. The waitresses were nice and mostly attentive. The food was good, but nothing spectacular. However, the bathroom urgently needs to be done here. It is located on the lower floor. Unfortunately, the smell reaches up into the guest room. In addition, the toilets really don't look good and they urgently need a thorough cleaning.

The blonde service staff cannot be surpassed in terms of arrogance and unfriendliness. Not recommended under any circumstances!

While looking for a restaurant for lunch in Mannheim, we came across the Novus restaurant. Overall, nice rooms, everyone will find something on the menu. The food tasted good and was prepared quickly. The only criticism is that we had to wait a long time until we were served.

The Monday Spar Rips were once again a blast. The staff is very attentive but not too intrusive and very friendly. The prices are in the normal range. All in all, highly recommended. We always enjoy coming here.

Were there today (8/18/24, 8/11/24 and in between for brunch - still just as sensationally good as the first few times😊🤤). Today I came in (half an hour earlier) and the boss said straight away: "Sandra" yes? 😳🤔😍😂😂😂 So I'm already recognized and basically greeted by my first name. On the last visit we were one and a half people more (spontaneously) and it wasn't a problem. The brunch offer (from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. - 5 a.m. for €13.50 is simply unbeatable. It's always refilled, there's a bit of everything and everything is delicious. Went to Sunday brunch for the second time today (March 17, 2024). Like the first visit, it was absolutely great👌🏻👏🏻 Went to brunch from the beginning (10 a.m.) to the end (3 p.m.)...it was always filled up, plenty of choice, everything was very tasty, fresh and attractively prepared. It was very cozy again...for me one of the top brunch addresses for Sundays! And the price is unbeatable...€13.50 for a possible 5 hours of delicious breakfast, snacks, cakes, waffles, fruit...whatever. Even if it cost more, it would be unbeatable. !!!BUT!!! Be sure to reserve. Wanted today for March 31st. Make a reservation, everything is already fully booked😔 Were there for the first time - probably had better luck than everything else. We spontaneously called for brunch on Sunday (after we had no luck elsewhere), spontaneously got space for 7 people and it was great. Large selection, very tasty and definitely affordable brunch. Vegetarians are guaranteed to find something - we had two with us. You have the opportunity to have brunch until 3 p.m., there is cake, lunch snacks, you can make your own fresh waffles... So lots of choice... We'll definitely be back. Reservations are advisable and recommended! And in general there seems to be a good selection...just take a look at the menu - the breakfast selection is decent.

When I was a student, I really enjoyed the pasta buffet. Since that no longer exists, I haven't been to the Novus anymore. Til today. It was my first time going for Sunday brunch and I highly recommend it. I went around 12pm, without a reservation. The place was full and loud, something I've experienced every Sunday break so far. I still got a nice and relatively quiet spot in a corner. Perfect! The only disadvantage was the open window next to it, which unfortunately I couldn't close, but the draft was bearable with a jacket. The buffet was pretty full. There were various meat dishes (not tried), salmon (unfortunately quite dry), breaded vegetables (very good), fresh vegetables, selection of cheese, various dips and salads, baked goods (baguette slices were unfortunately more like rusks, but rolls were very fresh and tasty) , cakes (very few pieces at 1 p.m. but all very tasty), pancakes (dry), fruits, etc. Most of the things tasted great and the selection was very large. The only shame I found was that there was no signage. Sometimes I didn't know whether the dishes were with or without meat and I only found out afterwards that the chocolate fountain was bittersweet. It would not be recommended for people with allergies or intolerances. Anyone who eats everything will definitely stay happy. Despite the full restaurant, I was able to help myself to the buffet at any time and never had to wait. There was only a small queue when a group had just picked up things, but that was quickly gone. The service was super nice and quick. I got a drink (very tasty iced tea) and warm eggs within 5 minutes and they apologized for having to wait 2-3 minutes to pay. With the place packed, I was really impressed! I can't understand the complaints about the toilets in some of the comments. The women's toilet was in very good condition and very clean. I will gladly come again.

If you want a cheap and delicious lunch, this is the right place! Daily changing dishes, 1x vegetarian and 1x with meat. Plus a soup of the day and a dessert for FREE with every dish! Perfect for your lunch break and easy to do in 1 hour! 🥰 Reservation in advance recommended.

I was very disappointed with the breakfast buffet, even though it supposedly has a very good reputation. The coffee was tasty. Addition: after 4 years, a lawyer was called in and tried to have my honest review deleted. That's not okay. Of course, a lot can change in 4 years, but simply reporting an honest review on the grounds of “consciously spreading untrue facts” is the wrong approach!

Service staff with tunnel vision: You have to shout really loudly to be noticed. The cordon bleu, a large lump of meat, was fried in the deep fryer. (Saturday around 6 p.m.)

Great brunch buffet on Sundays! Service was ok, as was the ambience. The restaurant was fully booked, so everything was a bit cramped and access to the buffet was somewhat limited due to the spatial situation. But all in all, everything was great to cope with and overall!

There's really nothing wrong with the restaurant. I enjoyed the food very much. With soup, dessert, main course and drink, the price is very reasonable despite the high quality. The service was very nice and quick. You didn't have to wait long at all and everything arrived quickly and with high quality. The ambience and seating are also very pleasant and comfortable. A 10/10 absolute recommendation.

The five of us still got a table on Sunday without a reservation. We were very pleased. All in all just great and simply bomb for the price. Friendly and fast staff. Huge selection at breakfast so something for everyone. Gladly again.

I usually like Novus but last time I was there I saw a mouse running through the tables. I alerted the bartender who reacted with a dismissive “okay” and went about his business unperturbed. One can wonder what such nonchalance at the sight of rodent signals about the place’s hygiene.
