One of the best breweries there is! Great ambience, excellent food and great service! You definitely have to visit it if you are near Cologne. The salt alley is beautiful!!!

Great Cologne atmosphere. Nice waitresses with humor. Add some delicious draft beer and the evening started well. Unfortunately little vegetarian selection.

It was once again a perfect New Year's Eve dinner at the Sünner Brauhaus. You always feel welcome. Ate very well, not a long wait and the service would have gotten six stars from us, unfortunately there are only 5 to choose from. It's just the kind, unfeigned, natural way that you're treated to. We'll be back

Delicious food and very good, individual service

The staff was very rude. We ordered only two beers without food because we heard some nice thing about their kölsch, and also the place was already full of people. When we finished and wanted to pay and leave, the staff at the bar told us they did not take credit cards (which I doubt it ). It was ok , since we only ordered 2 beers. We paid in cash as a result , and we needed the changes. The staff at the bar did not have enough coins for the change, and one of his colleagues behind us came, and he simply "Pushes" us aside without any "excuse me " or something, and made his way to the bar and left the coins the the bar. That was totally very rude and mean.

Honestly from the reviews I expected more. Pot roast was too hard and the sauce had A LOT of vinegar in it. The portion was for a small hunger. Prices aren’t cheap - 30 euro for Wiener schnitzel. Small tables where you can’t get comfortable to fit as many guests as possible. The only good thing was the fast service and good beer. The waitress seemed to be drunk. Disappointing overall.

The Sünner Kölsch is tasty and goes down well. The service was good, but our glasses often remained empty. The Kölsch serving frequency (KSV) could be increased slightly. All in all, a successful evening that deserves repeating

When we were checking the menu a painting fell down to my and my friend’s heads. It was really hurtful and the only thing that they said to us was: yes it happens sometimes. I really do not recommend this place!!!!!!!! They are awful!! Please take care of yourself🙏🏻

Typical tourist trap. Every dish we had was out of the bag and tasteless. Also far too expensive. But 1 star more for the old-established ambience. Better go to the Belgian Quarter or just have a drink here.

Although this brewery is located in the middle of Cologne's old town, it has reasonable prices and very good food. We were there at lunchtime and it filled up quite quickly downstairs. I ate the 650 gr cutlet with fried potatoes and couldn't finish eating. A paradise for meat lovers. The other dishes also looked very good. And the Sünner Kölsch is somewhat similar to the Gaffel Kölsch. Great service and highly recommended. We'd love to come back.

Best brewery in Cologne. Everything is great

I give this place 5 stars mainly for the food and atmosphere. The highlights were the pork knuckle (schweinshaxe) and the chocolate lava cake (both of them were a dream). Main down side was the slow service. It took SO long to even get our menus and place the order. From when we sat down to when we got our food, it took over an hour. They did not accept walk-ins so make sure to reserve. It was peak season in December so I get it but I was so ready to leave after 2 hours, everything took so long. However.. the level of food made up for it.

Just to feel good here :) There is also good Kölsch

We came here for the first time as a couple on the 3rd of Advent following a recommendation. Very quaint, nice atmosphere. Nice service. Unfortunately, the warm dish was cold and much too thick for a cutlet - so it was probably not cooked through. The temperature at the neighboring table was also complained about. The Cologne tapas were ok - (although the black pudding that we ordered was also served). There was a schnapps on the house for that.

Kölle! I claim that you can find some of the best sauerbraten in Cologne here. Oh, throughout the whole republic! The waiters are very on the ball and impress with their typical Köll dialect. The Kölsch hisses and the ambience is simply beautiful given its age. The sauerbraten is a stunner. Tasty, lots of sauce, perfect dumplings and red cabbage form a symphony that lets your taste buds party. We weren't there for the first nor the last time. 😁 Please keep it up!

Super tasty food, schnitzel and burger are recommended! The waiter was very rude, we asked for the menu and the best man did not bring it. When we asked another waiter for a menu, the first waiter came back 1 minute later to take our order. We say that we haven't looked yet because we only just got the menus, he gives US an eye roll and walks away. He avoided eye contact with us for the rest of the evening and we were unable to order any more drinks from him. No tip, too bad boy. Very tasty food! Xoxo

In the center of Cologne near the markets, a warm and welcoming environment. Friendly, smiling and polite staff, excellent typical German food. Koln beer super!!! A very pleasant evening in a particular environment, absolutely to be repeated ❤️

Unfortunately, we made the mistake and reserved a table for 8 people there for an Advent Saturday. We got 2 tables. In order to have a conversation with each other, we kept silent. We then put the tables together ourselves. Ok, you can do it...the service also has a lot to do. You can wait a long time for the drinks. Unfortunately also on the food. Only the schnitzel and the knuckle were good quality. Bratwurst and especially steak are highly discouraged. The steak was ordered medium and came to the table rare. Ok… complained. The steak didn't come back for a while. Went to the front of the counter and asked. Unfortunately, no service staff came to our table. So there was no drink with the meal🙈. Steak arrived at us completely burnt after about 15 minutes. You really couldn't eat. Complained again. The friendly service person then complained to her boss that we thought everything was “shit”. But we never said that. But it is true that we are not satisfied. We were then allowed to have an underground conversation with the boss. Conclusion of the visit: drank 2 Kölsch in two hours and left the shop hungry.

We asked for a table, and all we got was a lazy nod—no words, no explanation. The staff need to work on their language and communication skills. Maybe some basic English lessons would be a good idea.

When I read some reviews I ask myself: Why do I go to a rustic brewery? It is one of the most beautiful breweries for me. Great staff, great food, and very cozy. If the volume bothers you, just don't go, because that's Cologne as it lives. Each of our visits, which is a must for us, is an experience. It's not a 5 star restaurant, it's Cologne the way we love it.😍😍

After we were able to reserve a table (Saturday, November 30th, 2024) and had to search for a parking space for ages, we felt very good. The food was very good.

Had an amazing dinner here. Schnitzel and bratwurst were both fantastic. Waiter was friendly and patient with our lack of German skills. If we were staying longer we would definitely go back!

Pretty brazen service, absolutely didn't want to accept card payment. We don't make any further visits there. I didn't say I couldn't pay by card. Another waiter was then sent to us, who accepted the card payment without hesitation.

Really good pub with great food and nice staff. Price is completely fine. It really tasted extremely good. The ambience is very clocky. The staff is friendly and very accommodating. Definitely worth a visit. However, it is advisable to reserve in advance!!

Unfortunately I'm not very convinced. Unfortunately, the meat in several dishes was tough and dry and the dumplings weren't that great either. The sauerkraut was very good though. Regarding the service, I have to say that our dishes came at very different times. The difference in dessert was 20 minutes.

A great little brewery with flair. The Köbissinnen were fantastic, great service. Food ok. Sünner-Kölsch for €2.20 OK. We'd love to come back! Update 11/2024: Kölsch €2.40 and also a delicious vegetarian dish on the menu - Mittler has to have something like that at the Bauhaus too.

Typical restaurant, efficient and friendly service!

Just fine. Not great, not bad. Atmosphere is pretty much missing completely. Service is lackluster. I wouldn’t visit again, even though the food was pretty alright. For international tourists this might be a novelty and worth it, but as a European i expected more for 4,7 stars on here. Maybe just search for something else if you can.

Brauhaus Sünner im Walfisch offers a charming, authentic atmosphere and great food. The haxe was flavorful, though it could have been a bit crispier with more time in the oven. The sweet mustard complemented the tangy sauerkraut beautifully. I also tried the Sünner Weizen wheat beer, which tasted refreshing and smooth.

Had booked a table for dinner. Everything was very tight and loud. Hardly understood our own words. Service force was very nice. Food was delicious but we all had cold food.

We actually really liked it. Köbe's typical kölsch 😅. Kölsch is served until the lid is on the glass. Super child friendly. There is a children's card with a coloring picture, pens and instructions not to pick up a cell phone 😄. We think the ambience is great, typical brewery. One star deduction because of the food. My savoy cabbage was lukewarm, as was the mashed potatoes with the knuckle. The knuckle was a bit weak in taste. Nevertheless we would come back

Food (sky and ääd) was excellent. Unfortunately, the restaurant was very crowded and you couldn't understand your own words. The two of us were seated at a table with a loud group in the aisle. Atmosphere/ambience not recommended. Food and drinks were great.

We wanted to eat one of Cologne's specialities, black pudding with mashed potato, onion, and apple in a traditional pub. This was spot on with their own beer to drink with it. The staff were absolutely lovely, too. Really good evening

Unfortunately, the Sünner has lost its shine. Bad and unfriendly service. You get the feeling that it's all about processing the tourists quickly so that the next ones can come. It used to be very cozy here, but unfortunately it's no longer up to date. The food is still okay, but it's available everywhere and cheaper. We are no longer regular guests.

It's always a feast to eat at your place or simply enjoy a few Kölsch in front of your door! It's practically always the first stop for us when we're in the city. Not least because of the typical Cologne staff, who have their tongues loose and their hearts in the right place. Stay as you are, we'll definitely be back.

We were here with a large group of people suffering from COPD. The reservation and entry went well and I was very surprised at how big the brewery is inside. The food and drink was delicious for us, the service was quick and friendly, we felt very comfortable and I will go there again. Even alone 😅👍

I had a sauerbraten and it was really great. Freshly tapped Kölsch, perfect, friendly service with the typical local humor of the Köbe. I just like the place. The small windows upstairs, the small counter with the bar tables... we'll be back!!

We had to beg but managed to get seats in this crazy restaurant. The owner took us under his wing and made sure we were taken care of. The place was super popular with a lit of locals. The food and beer was amazing. We all wished we could go back.

I was here a few days ago and ate the Rhenish sauerbraten. The red cabbage was also quite good, juicy and the taste was right. The dumpling was a bit lacking in taste, but the sauce made up for it a little. What was noticeably weak on the plate was the main player, namely the sauerbraten itself. There was a lack of acid here for my taste. In addition, the meat was quite tough and dry, had some cartilage or similar harder areas. It was also cut much thicker than I'm used to with a sauerbraten, but that's irrelevant from a rating perspective. In short, the roast was edible, but no more. Too bad. The service was friendly and relatively quick. I would like to divide the ambience a little. Purely in terms of the design of the guest room, it is great. Lots of wood, authentic for the old town, really beautiful. The open guest room also has a big disadvantage - the noise. It's just incredibly difficult to have a conversation here. I don't know much about prices in Cologne, but compared to similar restaurants in other cities, I would describe it as rather high-priced, but without completely breaking out of the usual realm. Would I come back? Well, maybe. It wouldn't be my first choice. Still, it's an option.

Typical Kölsches Brauhaus with simple but delicious 😋 cuisine

Unfortunately we didn't have a good experience. Four of us ate there. A dish was forgotten and had to be ordered again, which is just not nice with four people when one person has nothing and the others have to eat otherwise theirs will get cold. The waiter who was responsible for us wasn't good overall, didn't take our orders and the drinks that were ordered took ages to arrive. The highlight was when we asked another Köbe if he could provide us with drinks. He then became cheeky and rude; his behavior had nothing to do with the cheeky nature of the boy. Two stars because the food was good. Update 12.2022 Went here again with work colleagues and this time we had a great Köbes who, even though the place was packed, had everything in view. The food tasted good, but unfortunately it was no longer hot, just warm. But the visit was enough for me to get a star upgrade.

The beer is tasting very light and fresh! I like it a lot. And ordered pork knuckle as every time visiting Germany. This size is ok for me, the sauerkraut is a bit different than my memory, but good anyway, so does the mash potatoes!

The best Kölsch you'll get anywhere in the world!

The three of us were there last week as part of a city tour that also took us to Cologne. The atmosphere is rustic and very cozy, the service is friendly and on the ball. The food was rustic but also very tasty, as was the Kölsch. Therefore a clear recommendation!

Now THIS is a proper German restaurant. German food tends to be too mealy and dry, not so here. Great staff, no nonsense. Highly recommend all of their entrees.

The food was quite okay, but the knuckle was totally dry and the waitress was totally unfriendly when collecting the money and wanted to collect more than she had ordered and when you wanted to give her a drink she wanted to say that you had supposedly given her a bill that you didn't even have in your wallet.

Roast schweinhaxer is what we ordered and ate. Skin is chewy (instead of cripsy). The meat is dark and tastes not great. However, service and reception are friendly, attentive, and nice.
