Braugasthaus Zum alten Fritz in Rostock

We were in this restaurant for the first time today and were really impressed by the atmosphere. The food was fantastic and the service is second to none. You don't have to wait long for your food. The staff is very friendly, some can learn a thing or two. There are always people who have something to complain about. We were very satisfied and would visit it again at any time and recommend it to others.

For the price it's nothing! I paid around €32 for the water buffalo burger with fries or fried potatoes. (Unfortunately there was no beef.) The patty was very dry and well-done. The fried potatoes weren't crispy. Unfortunately not justified for such a price. Someone else had the schnitzel. When I asked if it was homemade, the waitress said it was homemade, but not fresh. So prepare in the morning. We couldn't really believe that because the breading seemed industrial. It stuck to the flesh like glue. Why a schnitzel in a brewery isn't freshly beaten (it wasn't) and breaded is unclear to me. Service was otherwise abrupt and snippy. But what can I say? The shop is well filled - especially with tourists and older guests. About the ambience: At times it smelled strongly of fish. It's a matter of taste, but I found it unpleasant. Maybe turn on the ventilation, which at least seems to be there structurally. For me: never again!

The food is always great, and we've always had luck even without a reservation. The service is also very attentive and friendly and the waiting times are reasonable depending on how busy the restaurant is. The furnishings are very attractive and cozy.

We spontaneously got a table on Saturday evening without a reservation, the reception was very nice, the order was quick and the food was delicious. Large restaurant with winding corners and different areas, so you can enjoy undisturbed. There is also a large outdoor area - the rustic atmosphere is right.

Very nice restaurant. Great atmosphere and very friendly staff. The food was amazing, I had beetroot salad with gorgonzola and the potato and spinach casserole as my main course. This restaurant is really recommended.

We (child, dog and I) spontaneously went there for dinner today. Mr. Backhaus came to take our order. Very polite, courteous and, above all, he considered my child to be a guest and was treated as such. I found that very pleasant and absolutely great. I had chicken burgers and wave fries (absolutely recommended and incredibly tasty) and the child had pasta with tomato sauce. Both dishes were fresh and very tasty. The service was really quick and always polite. Mr. Backhaus has definitely understood the “gastronomy” system and implements it perfectly. Our dog was also received very friendly. We'd love to come back.

We ate there a few times in August 2024. The service and food were excellent. Food and drink were still reasonably priced. The burger with water buffalo meat is recommended. Never eaten such good meat. The other dishes were also excellent. Greetings from Cologne

Very nice restaurant Friendly and well organized staff First there was a cauliflower soup, which was great We also had the vegetarian plate, where the vegetables were crunchy, the potatoes were simply delicious and the goat cheese was brilliant. The fried potatoes were the best part of the panfish, the sauce had absolutely no balanced acidity and was almost inedible. The fish was fried for too long and was therefore dry. The Kaiserschmarren at the end was good.

Good food at fair prices, good ambience and great service.

The two of us went to your brewery on Monday, March 17th, 2025 (4:10 p.m.) to have a little something to eat. There was no one at the “reception” and there wasn’t a single guest in the restaurant, i.e. all tables were free. We wanted to choose a table when we were whistled back by a young, dark-haired lady in a rude and patronizing tone that we couldn't just choose a table, which was pretty rude at that time and given the location. Besides, she didn't know how long we wanted to stay. How long do you think the two of you will stay if you want to eat something? We sat down briefly at a table assigned to us, but then got up and went to another restaurant where the word “customer friendliness” is not only known from its spelling, but can also be used accordingly when dealing with paying guests. We expect a friendly and courteous tone, otherwise this restaurant will not be a place for us to visit, which is what we have now decided regarding this brewery, even though we were regular guests there. I strongly recommend appropriate training for staff.

God mad og øl, dejligt autentisk og fint sted, men virkelig dårlig service og betjening. Man følte sig meget, meget lidt velkommen og vi blev kun fordi, vi skulle lidt mad inden færgen.

Great restaurant with a cozy atmosphere and friendly staff. Before I ordered the Labskaus, I was even given a sample and received very friendly advice. Even if the prices are really hefty, I would come back at any time.

It took 25 minutes for the order to be accepted today and it wasn't full.. but after that it continued quickly.. the food was TOP.. Thanks to the kitchen.. Beer nice and cold and delicious

Service was friendly and quick, the atmosphere was nice too. But: prices beyond good and evil! Panfish consisted of 2 small pieces of fish, with an indefinable sauce and fried potatoes (onions and ham were hardly present). No “vegetable decoration” and carelessly prepared. Cucumber salad would have cost another €5.80, a total of €28.70 for home cooking. Our other dishes were just as expensive and tasted nothing special. We won't be visiting again unless something is finally offered for the prices quoted.

The service was really friendly and attentive and the food was served quickly. Unfortunately, both dishes were completely over salted and inedible... apparently the lid of the salt container fell off. It's a shame because the first impression was otherwise positive.

Real brewery feeling at the Rostock harbor. Here you can still feast honestly, from Labskaus to Kaiserschmarrn and fresh Störtebeker beer on tap. The service is top and we can also accommodate small special requests. Finally, it's best to grab a few bottles of Störtebeker and rave about the delicious food on the way home :-)

Nice location. Friendly, courteous staff. (especially Maddi...) The food here in buffet form was very tasty. Gladly again.

A constant point of contact for me during my stay in Rostock.

We were there with 10 people and sat on dry land from 9 p.m. Food was good, service was okay...but if you sit in front of empty glasses for 45 minutes, then there is something wrong with the service. We didn't take 100 euros in sales with us and it annoyed us.

Wow 🤩 what an incredible Restaurant, Bar, Brewery and Distillery with the most delicious food with an even more amazing customer service team that makes feel like FAMILY!!! A big thank you 🙏🏼 to Freja who not only helped me out with the menu but also was kind to take the time while I was using the translator for some of the words that were not so common do to the fantastic menu options.

I can only recommend it, the atmosphere is really nice and Nordic, you don't just sit in public, but also in small sections, which is much more relaxed and feels more familiar. The staff is super friendly and the food is delicious.

We have been meeting in the Alten Fritz as a group of colleagues for several years and spend a sociable evening with good food, beer and Klön snacks. It's always a great evening.

Despite a full house on Sunday, super friendly and attentive service. The food was extremely tasty and our pickled meat, which we brought with us in a mason jar, was a delight. Thank you!

I was on vacation in Rostock at the beginning of January and spontaneously stopped by one evening at 5 p.m. Cozy rustic atmosphere. Staff extremely polite and attentive. The food..... Well. 3 types of meat with Brussels sprouts, vegetables and fried potatoes with onions and bacon. At least according to the menu! The chicken was dead twice. I didn't eat it at all. I get too dry chicken, just can't keep up. The “vegetables” consisted only! And exclusively! Made from yellow and red carrots🤮 I hate carrots! There were at least 5 Brussels sprouts 😑 I didn't see any 3 crumbs of bacon in the fried potatoes or onions. The amount of fried potatoes was also clear. For that, tons of disgust The dish was so bad! I only ate the other two pieces of meat. The rest went into the kitchen. I drank 2 black beers and moved on hungry. It's a shame, I actually wanted to drink a few more beers with my companion. But Störtebekers are everywhere. So I picked something up from Edeka and went to the hotel. The next time you visit Rostock, we'll go somewhere else to eat. My standards are higher for good cuisine that I'm happy to pay for. That said, I just like to eat good food

Great cozy restaurant. Friendly staff and delicious food. We would always come back and recommend it to others. Keep it up, such hospitality has unfortunately become rare. For us anyway 5 out of 5 stars.

So far it's actually pretty good. If you have the right service staff. Some are great. Some are real snobs who are more interested in private exchanges about trivialities than in assisting guests and customers. I was seated near the welcome counter and was able to experience what was happening up close. The pricing is far from the real reality. Now the operator may come with increased costs for energy, personnel or whatever... But that cannot be explained. Such pricing is only conceivable with a gastronomic star classification. But neither the service nor the quality of the food is up to par. I would like to differentiate again here. There are real gems in the staff... But you have to look for them.

Very cozy place, good menu for food and drinks, it's something special compared to standard restaurants = very good. Fast and friendly service. Our highlight = Labskaus….often frowned upon, but really tasty here. Thank you, we'll be happy to come back.

Typical German place, the service is not great but what do you expect? The food is greasy and big portions!

The service was very unfriendly. We wanted to eat grilled fish but she really wanted to convince us to eat boiled fish. When we said we didn't want it, we had to explain to her why we didn't want it.

The food was really delicious. But some dishes didn't say that red wine was your choice. This is not good at all for dry alcoholics (danger of triggers) or for people with intolerance (histamine, for example). Of course you can ask, but with some dishes you simply suspect there is no red wine in the food. Otherwise everything was very good there.

We were looking for a restaurant late on a Saturday evening. A quick call and a super friendly lady reserved a table for us. The waitresses were all very friendly and attentive. Really great. The food was also very good and not to forget that there was a very good selection of delicious beer. Top address in Rostock, thank you for the nice evening.

You can feel comfortable here and also eat well. But when it comes to St. Martin's goose, the taste and price are completely wrong. The goose tastes very bland and the price is completely overpriced. No one needs to be very expensive with energy costs and ingredients. In other regions with inns I pay almost as much for 4 people as I do here for 2 people.

Im Fritz ist es eher rustikal. Herausragend ist die Bierauswahl der Störtebecker Brauerei. Das Essen ist reichlich und gut. Wir wurden aufmerksam bedient und hatten als große Gruppe viel Spaß.

Unfortunately not good service. We were guests since 6 p.m. It started with a friend not getting his beer (forgot), then beer orders were mixed up, there were 7 of us, empty plates were already being cleared away even though 2 of us were still eating. You just don't do that. The highlight was really that even though it only closed at midnight, they didn't want to serve us any more drinks at 11:30 p.m. Although there were still a few guests in the restaurant. We would have understood if we had been the last guests and all the service staff wanted to get off work. But that wasn't the case.

Wir waren gestern Abend hier essen. Tischreservierung war schnell und unkompliziert. Empfang war ganz okay. Essen Portion war gut. Geschmack war auch okay. Einzig unser Kellner, der die Bestellung angenommen hat, war unfreundlich. Sah sehr genervt aus und unnötige ruppige Aussagen. Hab trotzdem 10% trinkgeld gegeben, jeder hat mal einen schlechten Tag, schön war es trotzdem nicht. Fazit: Preis/Leistung durchschnittlich. Kellner unfreundlich. Keine Wiederholungsgefahr.

A good restaurant right on the water. You can also sit outside on summer days. There is a large selection of Störtebeker beer. The selection of food is good. There are various fish and meat dishes as well as northern German specialties. The staff is extremely friendly and very accommodating. I have always felt comfortable there during my visits so far. Definitely recommended for me

The first time I had a grilled knuckle with dumplings... I struggled and still couldn't get everything done. It was really tasty. Now on the second visit the waiter told me that half a knuckle would also be possible. I took that too and it was extremely tasty again. This time everything was eaten. The atmosphere is really nice and the whole staff is great. I can recommend it to anyone who appreciates good cuisine and the price-performance ratio is definitely right here. I will come again.

We came here on a Sunday around lunchtime and got a table without any problems. The service was friendly and attentive. There was a large selection of beer and the food we ordered was excellent. Contrary to other opinions, we found that the price-performance ratio is definitely right here. Very good restaurant. We'd love to come back.

Very nice atmosphere and a great selection of beer, but very high prices. Burger without side dish 25€ with fries +6… We had burgers (frites good, patty fart dry and therefore not tasty - request for medium rare was ignored) “Homemade tarte flambée” (16€) -> it was clearly visible frozen tarte flambée, where even the one from Dr. Oetger would have tasted better + the tarte flambée wasn’t even brown at the bottom, so I dare to doubt the stone oven in question. CONCLUSION: TOP for drinking beer comfortably, even if it's expensive for Rostock Clearly advise against eating - price performance put six👎

Ich kann leider nicht weniger als einen Stern vergeben. Jetzt ist etwas Zeit zwischen unserem Besuch in diesem Restaurant und heute verstrichen. Und man sagt: Es wird nie so heiß gegessen , wie es gekocht wird… Aber ich bleibe dabei: Ein Flammkuchen für 16€????? 16€???? EINER !! Das sind 32 Mark. Und der Flammkuchen unseres Freundes hatte in der Mitte ein großes Loch! Er musste auch 16€ bezahlen. Für ein Flammkuchen. EIN Flammkuchen. 16€ !!!!! Trotz eines großen Lochs. Die Mitarbeiter waren freundlich- die können ja nichts dafür. Ich richte mich hier an den Vorstand dieses Unternehmens. Ja,ich richte mich an SIE! Schämen Sie sich nicht? Uns Gäste so ins Gesicht zu schlagen? FRECHHEIT!!!!! Meine Wut kann ich nicht richtig ausdrücken, dafür fehlt mir die Redewendung. Wir hatten Hunger. Und wollten eigentlich gut essen. Aber dafür hätten wir pro Person mehr als 50€ bezahlen müssen. Mehr als 100 Mark!!! Für einen wohlgemerkt! 100 Mark!!!!!! Nur für Essen?????????? Frechheit!😡

We were in Rostock in the summer and didn't regret it. The population is very friendly and the Baltic Sea is worth seeing. We stopped in at old Fritz's and felt very comfortable right from the start. The home-brewed beer is tasty and there is plenty to choose from. The food was tasty. The service was very friendly. The restaurant itself invites you to stay longer than planned. All in all a successful evening in this restaurant. I can only recommend it or if you are in Rostock you should visit it.

Absolutely a top-class brewery in the far north with excellent beers. The food was great and the portions were plentiful. Even when reading the menu with the great descriptions of the individual dishes, you didn't know which dish to choose. The service was super accommodating and friendly. We would definitely like to come back.

Beautiful old building, the brewery belongs to the Störtebeker Braumanufaktur family. Great beers, main courses really very expensive, starters, desserts and drinks priced okay.

Unfortunately, we imagined our evening in the old Fritz to be a little different. The inn is beautifully furnished and invites you to linger. However, that is almost the only thing that tempts you. Unfortunately, the name is a bit too much ahead of the restaurant. The service was very abrupt, seemed stressed and annoyed. The lady was always on the go and unfortunately didn't show up often. The food seemed better on the menu than it was. The meat was very dry and the fish had been on the stove a little too long. There was a lack of spice here and there. The bright spot was supposed to be the dessert, but unfortunately we also bit our teeth on that. In addition to the broken seeds in the groats, the cake was unfortunately anything but warm. All in all, just under €90 is a bit steep for what you get. We probably won't be back, which is a shame as we were really looking forward to the evening.

For the first half hour after we arrived we were completely ignored by service. Only after we clearly drew attention to ourselves did things get better. The food was good quality. Would I go again? Not if it can be avoided.

Die Speisen sind durchschnittlich-gut, die Currywurst gibt es nur während Sommermonate. Der Flammkuchen war nur Durchschnitt und noch nicht richtig durchgebacken. Die Preise sind allerdings nicht gerechtfertigt, die Currywurst kostet 15,90 €, den Braumeister Flammkuchen gibt es für 22,90 €

Great location, there were 7 people there, one person in a wheelchair, it wasn't a problem. The food was extremely tasty and the service was outstanding. All of us really enjoyed it and we can only recommend the Braugasthaus zum Alten Fritz

On the restaurant side the outdoor area is in a tent, on the harbor side there is no tent. We came without a reservation and there was only room on the harbor side. Weather was good, so no problem. However, this site is purely self-service, i.e. For each drink you have to go to the cart, order, pay and carry it to the table. Similar with the food, only it was brought to the table. The waitress who brought the food was friendly, but the drinks were rather Nordic-cool and listless. Prices are quite high, which I don't think is so bad given that the food is decent. However, a small piece of zander, a few fried potatoes and a little sauce for over €20 is steep. But the next guests are ready and so there is no reason for the restaurant to change anything.

It was all very tasty 😋. But 5.80 euros for a 0.5 liter bottle of Natur Radler isn't possible. The bottle costs 1.20 in stores. Exactly the same with the supplements at 5.80.

Unfortunately, the quality of the food does not correspond to the very high prices. The location at the harbor is very nice.

Be careful with the schweinhaxe, you get several kilos of meat and it may well kill you. I tried to best it and am now in fact dead.

Stopped here spontaneously while my wife was running in the Rostock night half marathon. Get a small table without any problem. Service staff is attentive and friendly. Of course I ordered a Störtebecker (a Bernstein Weizen Frei to be precise). And excellent Störtebecker matjes.

One of the best restaurants in Rostock. We come here every year and I think that says a lot. Always friendly employees in a feel-good atmosphere and very good food. We have never been disappointed here and are always happy to come back. Thanks to the team.

For lunch we had tarte flambée with salmon and rocket, excellent! The service is excellent and the atmosphere invites you to linger. In the tent, plants grow around the sides of the tables, the green calms and creates a feel-good atmosphere. The shandy also tasted very good. We will be back!

We give the 3 stars for the beautiful interior...The prices are just audacious...bread basket with a mini bowl of fat €8.90...and unfortunately the staff is just "Nordic friendly". You really have to stand that way. Unfortunately, like almost everywhere on the coast, you're just full - the next guest is just around the corner. Well... it's a shame...

This recession refers to a visit in early July 2024. The house is beautifully located on the banks of the Warnow. Parking spaces are available in the area. We were there around lunchtime and sat outside. The staff was attentive and friendly. A quick walk inside was good. Traditionally rustic furnishings. What you would expect from a brewery. The beer selection is wonderful, the menu offers a decent selection without being over the top. The price-performance ratio is appropriate for the location.

First the good - the location is beautiful and the location is of course maritime romantic. The food is very expensive and the taste doesn't reflect this. There is a maximum of 2 stars here. The staff we encountered are snotty and cheeky - you have to like that. In short, there are much nicer restaurants in the city harbor of Rostock with better service and food.
