Bistro Liebenswert Café in Cuxhaven

We received a warm welcome. The food was delicious, but we felt the plates lacked a bit of color, perhaps in the form of a salad garnish. We'll be back next year.

The food, or rather the fish, was OK, to below average, as you could clearly taste the frozen goods, which could have been bought fresh right on the North Sea...

I was completely impressed by the Liebenswert Café bistro. The staff is exceptionally friendly and attentive, making everyone feel welcome. Our food was served promptly, and the portions were very generous. After our visit, we were completely happy and satisfied – a definite recommendation! We'll be back on September 26th. Price-performance ratio not good.

Highly recommended! The food is excellent here, and there's something for everyone on the menu. We've tried almost every fish dish and weren't disappointed. The fish sandwiches are also excellent. Friendly service. We come here every time we go on holiday and will definitely come back.

We absolutely cannot understand the negative reviews. This is our fourth time in Sahlenburg and we've been to this lovely bistro time and time again. The three of us ate there almost every day and tried a variety of dishes, and we were not disappointed. Excellent fish dishes, the fried potatoes, potato salad, and even the fries were all fantastic! The menu offers plenty of choice. This includes delicious fish sandwiches, which we highly recommend. The service is friendly and attentive. They also offer delicious cakes and tarts. If you're on holiday in Sahlenburg, Cafe Liebenswert is a must!

We popped in spontaneously and were lucky. We got a large table. The portions were all large and plentiful. The 30cm sausage was a challenge for the kids... but we managed :) Paid just over €100 for 5 people. Service was super friendly. Beautiful, modern, cozy bistro with a great menu. Everything was perfect!!!!!

Not recommended. Guests are treated very rudely, yelled at, and insulted. If you don't have a reservation, you might be turned away even though the place is half empty. The service makes silly comments about how stupid you would be not to make a reservation during the holiday season. The service lives up to its name, Café Liebenswert. The food was still good.

We were here last year, and this year everything was very good too... The staff was very friendly and the food was delicious. I highly recommend it.

The bistro is beautifully decorated and the view is fantastic. We got our food quickly and it was delicious. The fish sandwiches, in particular, are inexpensive and tasty. We'll be back, thank you!

The fries come in these small pouches that barely contain any sauce and are also harmful to the environment. Can't you put tubes there? The reception was a bit chilly, even though there were still tables available. With no food stand, hunger drove us there...

A great bistro that lives up to its name. The food was delicious and reasonably priced for this kind of place. We'd gladly return.

Rude staff!! Not a second time!!

My wife and I spontaneously drove to Cux-Sahlenburg to get away from it all. The bistro looks neat and clean. We opted for fried fish with remoulade sauce, which we wanted to have a light snack. It was good value for money. The restrooms are a bit small. We can recommend the bistro.

Update June 9, 2025: Been here four times in three days. We drank a wonderful latte and enjoyed freshly baked cake. Schnitzel and currywurst in the evening, simple but really good. :-) Update March 3, 2025: Successfully escaped Carnival in the Rhineland and came here three times. Everything was great, as always. They also had the cold dog again :-) Thank you very much! Update November 3, 2024: Since our first visit, we've been to Bistro Liebenswert several times, always felt very comfortable and enjoyed the delicious food. Today's "cold dog" reminded me of my childhood, even though we always called it Kellerkuchen. :-) — Nice atmosphere and service, delicious tarte flambée, strong pot of coffee!

I've rarely eaten such a bad meal. Both our meals (my husband's and mine) were dripping with grease...be it the fried potatoes or the fish (which wasn't fried, but rather unidentifiable). Even the overload of bacon cubes (more steamed than crispy) didn't make up for the food. And as for the service...friendly doesn't come easy!

We have a wonderful time here year after year, and I can't understand some of the complaints other customers make about rudeness towards customers and/or dogs. The food is delicious, the atmosphere is friendly, and the view is beautiful. What more could you want?

The food was okay; we enjoyed it. Unfortunately, the atmosphere among the staff was anything but harmonious, let alone 'lovable.' We were there in the early evening, and it was moderately busy. We found the acoustics from the kitchen particularly disturbing; we repeatedly had to listen to people shouting and complaining. It was very unpleasant and uninviting. One more tip: The menu needs a bit of revision (minor spelling mistakes).

I was actually warned last year. But hunger still got the better of me. And things haven't gotten any better. Quite the opposite. The welcome from the manager (?) wasn't exactly friendly. Although several tables were free and remained so throughout my stay, I was directed to a table with a short waiting time. The ordered food arrived quite promptly and lived up to my expectations. The fried potatoes drenched in oil and the pickled cucumbers from the menu became the only option. It was a short and one-off visit. Not recommended.

After arriving at the seaside, I had to try fish. The closest I had to this was a bistro. Interesting decor, nice service. I ordered Bratkartoffeln and fish. The food was tasty, the waiting time was ok. A big minus was the amount of oil. Everything was very greasy. I wanted to take the fish off the plate and put it on a napkin to get rid of the fat. My liver will not thank me for that. 🥺

Great food with a sea view, friendly service.

Wir kommen seit 3 Jahren immer wieder zum Essen hierher. Sind immer sehr freundlich begrüßt und bedient worden. Alle bisherig verzehrte Speisen waren sehr lecker und preiswürdig. Ebenso die Getränke. Auch mein Blindenführhund wird hier immer sehr freundlich begrüßt. Wir können das Bistro Liebenswert sehr empfehlen. Die Bewertung vom 30.03.2025 eines anderen Besuchers ist leider nicht ganz richtig. Das ist nur eine Reaktion darauf, weil er meinte, seinen Hund unter dem Tisch mit Naßfutter zu versorgen. Dies wurde ihm freundlich aus Lebensmittelhygienischen Gründen untersagt. Daraufhin ging er murrend heraus.

I give the ambience 3 stars because of the beautiful view of the beach. The service itself was polite, but you can tell from the atmosphere in general that some people are not welcome guests. There was another couple sitting in the bistro with us. Apparently acquaintances, you can make the comparison. We were treated nicely in some ways, but always with the feeling of a condescending attitude towards us. Furthermore, the food upset my stomach. I felt bad all evening. And that shouldn't be the case. I especially think that when it comes to fried potatoes, you should also state that they have bacon. Unfortunately, there was nothing about it on the menu, which is why I was even more annoyed because I couldn't eat it for personal reasons and the dish wasn't exactly cheap at €55. This was only addressed with the following sentence: "Yes, I have to know that in advance if you don't eat bacon." And then I had to accept it. Furthermore, people coughed on our food because the waitress apparently is or was “sick”. Really uncomfortable. She also smelled of nicotine. People who are sensitive to this lose their appetite, I tell you. Speak from your own person. And last but not least, I felt very watched, which also made the whole thing uncomfortable. It's in a nice setting, but in my opinion that's about it. What a shame, actually!

Much more than a bistro! Very good fish, very fresh and very well prepared. The homemade tartar sauce is also particularly delicious. The side salad is also very fresh with lots of colorful ingredients and a tasty dressing. If you want to eat well and inexpensively without any frills or frills but with friendly service, you've come to the right place with a wonderful view of the sea and the island of Neuwerk.

Der Name klingt gut, leider extrem unfreundliche Bedienung und der Fisch ist lieblos auf den Teller geknallt. Sicher nicht nochmal, auch wenn die Auswahl in Sahlenburg nicht sehr groß ist.

We wanted to grab a bite to eat there in the early evening. Since the bistro's website states that dogs aren't allowed there, we fed our dog in the lobby because it was very windy. The waitress promptly came over to tell us that this wasn't permitted. We weren't put off, but when the waitress then tried to forbid us from giving our elderly dog ​​the last four pieces of dry food, we'd had enough and left. Sahlenburg is actually known for being dog-friendly, but you should only visit this bistro without a dog. They even complained that my wife emptied the completely filthy water bowls. Last fall, however, when the dog was still welcome, the food was only mediocre.

Wir haben hier schon oft gegessen, mittags wie abends, auch mal ein Fischbrötchen auf die Hand. Das Essen ist lecker und liebevoll gemacht. Die Inhaberin sowie die Bedienung sehr freundlich. Wir sind rundum zufrieden und können das Bistro / Restaurant sehr empfehlen

Small restaurant with very friendly service and good food

Simple café, bright and friendly furnishings. Decent cake and coffee at fair prices. Cake (apple, apricot, plum, ...) €3.20, cake €4.50. Nice service, view of Neuwerk possible.

We ate very well there. Drinks and service also came very quickly. We were also allowed to take our dog in with us. We found this human gesture very beautiful. Not to forget, there was also very tasty, homemade cakes and tarts. Very tasty. I particularly enjoyed the toffee cake. Absolutely recommended and adorable, without reservation!! Great feel-good effect.

Very nicely decorated and not too kitschy. Service was super nice and friendly. Also to the dog. 😅I was there with my mother and my dog. Schnitzel and fries were super tasty. The matjes with the homemade sauce and fried potatoes were also very tasty. Simply great. 👍 We're always happy to come by. ☺️

We have been going there every holiday in Sahlenburg for several years now, delicious food, friendly service and a cozy atmosphere.

A friendly service works in a very sober atmosphere...chairs and tables are at canteen level...the toilets 🚽 were moderately clean and not handicapped accessible...the food (Jägerschnitzel??) was quite carelessly prepared (more like executed). the price was extremely questionable as it appeared... everything was convignia products, nothing was made in-house... the taste and preparation of the food was hardly reasonable, but nothing more... I wouldn't order it again... the coffee on offer on the other hand was of good quality... the shop was clean and the view of the beach was certainly quite pleasant when the weather was nice... It's a shame, I was looking forward to a nice Jägerschnitzel and then this🤨... loveless, disappointing, really bad and that Price extremely questionable anyway...

Mit LIEBENSWERT hat das Bistro wirklich nichts im Sinn. Der Kellner sowie die “Chefin” waren mies gelaunt und hatten offensichtlich keine Lust, sich um ihren Job zu kümmern. Eigentlich wollten wir dort zu Abend essen, schwenkten aber mal lieber auf ein Fischbrötchen um. Das war eine gute Entscheidung, denn diese mach ich Euch mit Käpt’n Iglo genau so gut….. Schade! Das war eine Erfahrung, die man wirklich nicht braucht!

When we entered the bistro at around 3 p.m., we were warmly greeted by two ladies. No other guests in the bistro, 3-4 tables occupied in the outdoor seating. We decided on a piece of cake, a herring roll and two cold drinks to take away. So far everything was OK, cake was wrapped and drinks bottles were opened. The matjes roll is only possible again from 4 p.m. because the chef is not on site. We were very surprised. On my note/question: Cook for a fish sandwich!? I was shouted at loudly; Yes sir, we have a staff shortage. Up until that point, we/I didn't know that this was a craft training course is necessary to top a roll with fish and onions. Conclusion: 2 x staff, at this point without any further tasks, cannot put fish on a roll, what a shame! PS: The cake was delicious.

Unfortunately not suitable for a vegan diet, when asked about a vegan milk alternative the response was unfortunately not very friendly, and there wasn't one either. Otherwise I think it's a good offer and a really nice view

Unfreundlich, wenig serviceorientiert. Der Name , Cafe Liebenswert .. ist doch wohl ein Witz '. Ich wurde schon als ich eingetreten bin ohne Bitte an der Theke vorne verwiesen nicht im Weg zu stehen. Ich bin mit meiner Freundin, Tochter hier zu Besuch, wir lassen gerne Geld da und hatten auch ursprünglich vor hier mal essen zu gehen. Jedenfalls auf Grund meiner freundlichen Nachfrage ob ich bitte 2 Pappbecher bekommen könnte wurde ich unfreundlich von der älteren dicklichen Dame hingewiesen wenn ich dafür bezahle gerne .. Das war es dann für mich aber es geht noch weiter, einige Minuten später hat sich dann die jüngere stattliche Dame draussen mit einem Gast ausgelassen über meine Person. Mein Fazit : 1.falscher Name des Cafe's, besser Cafe wie schreck ich die Gäste ab und 2. Ich rate hier allen von einem Besuch ab. Ich arbeite auch in einem serviceorientierten Beruf, Freundlichkeit, ein Lächeln für jeden Gast und Kundengewinnung geht anders. Schon eine Frechheit dass ich gefragt wurde für 2 Pappbecher zu bezahlen .. Vuxhaven Sahlenburg Strand- bitte kein Besuch in Cafe ,Unfreundlich ' ..

well the service was unfriendly (the blonde woman with the long blonde hair), unbelievable even with small children (I observed from a distance) ....and then we ordered a fish sandwich and were told: "You're welcome to wait outside the door!" 😂?! for whatever reason...I mean we were paying customers...well not recommended

We ate fish here and it was wonderfully prepared. We went again the next day and it was again very, very tasty. The portion was also generous. The coffee was also delicious. Unfortunately we no longer had room for the delicious cake that was offered. The location is great, with a beautiful view and the service was super nice. I can only recommend this bistro. I will always eat here when I am in Cuxhaven ❤ Edit: We'll be back in Cuxhaven next week and I can't wait to dine here 🤗🤗

The food tasted really good and fresh too. However, after we ordered and had our food, we didn't see any more service. We would have probably had one or two more beers, the glasses were empty... well... at some point we called someone and paid. The food was very good, the service was a bit “simple” in its own way. As a guest, you wouldn't have expected some of the answers.🙈We tried to make up for it with quick sayings, but we'd prefer it the other way around.

I stopped here to grab a bite to eat. The service was friendly and responded to my wishes. The side salad was excellent, only made from fresh ingredients. I felt very comfortable in the restaurant. Very nice atmosphere with a view of the sea.

We were in Sahlenburg with our granddaughter for 4 days and had dinner here on the first and last day. Everyone was always happy. Nice service and great view of the Watt wagons. Keep it up! We'd love to come back.

Today we went on a little detour to Sahlenburg again. The bistro “Liebenswert” is located directly on the access road to the beach, on the promenade. A small number of parking spaces are available. The service staff served us quickly and the orders were on our table quickly. The food was great and the prices are cheap. Gladly again.

One star is still too much, the service staff is very unfriendly and when asked to bring the bill you ignore it so that you are forced to go back to the restaurant to pay, not recommended, never again, there are so many other restaurants you can visit

Schnitzel with mushrooms, onions and fried potatoes. A lot of fat was used and spices and bacon were saved for the potatoes. The schnitzel is not fresh, but frozen.

Here you can find the best fish sandwiches far and wide 👌very friendly and with a view of the sea. Rolls are great, whether with salmon or herring 👌

We were there on a motorcycle with a sidecar and stopped here before returning. We hadn't made a reservation but we were still offered a comfortable place. Everything was very good and with a view of the sea anyway. 🙋‍♀️😘🌈

So we picked up food. Fish and chips €11. Vegetarian tarte flambée €13.50 Nice service. The food is just OK, nothing more. But the portion, taste, quantity don't fit. 6 small pieces of fish and a handful of potato wedges with aioli for €11. Vegetarian tarte flambée for €13.50. Size of a small pizza, doesn't fit at all. The service was very unfriendly

We were there on Good Friday and had ordered food to pick up. There was hardly any sauce on the Danish sausage and the fries were unsalted. The portion of fried fish was tasty, but here too, the fried potatoes were hardly (or not at all) salted, and the quantity was poor. Unfortunately, tartar sauce was also missing! A pity…

Nice ambience, friendly service, crab soup and crab rolls very good as well as organic sea buckthorn lemonade, great value for money

Unfortunately I have to agree with Holger Busse: the waitress who was there today looked at me unfriendly, I was still outside and she was serving inside (short haircut, dark). The day before I had a great impression of everyone who worked there: only the one today was really unfriendly; I asked the nice gentleman if I could get a pillow for outside, he said yes, but when I came out to grab the pillow, she stopped me really rudely: “Stop/Wait!” It would be the wrong chair cushion!!! (it was just a different color!). Unfortunately I couldn't judge the food yet: it was 5 minutes late today (8:05 p.m.): maybe it will work until Tuesday🍀 It worked on September 18th: the pollack fillet was brilliant! Remoulade is great! I ate there a total of 3 times during my vacation: September 19th and 21st: Baked rolls on the weekday, Röstis were also more like frozen. October 11th: my answer to the owner's message: why should a green cushion get dirty faster than a brown one and indoors it can get dirty in the same way as outside on the bench: the argument doesn't make sense to me. Have you spoken to the lady? She said it really unkindly and you heard it; stood in the wind-protected seating area! U because of the view from the interior: statement against statement: I saw the view, you didn't. And I certainly didn't rush in my review.

Intrigued by the offers, we spontaneously stopped by the Bistro Liebenswert today after a long hike. We had the Balkan-style schnitzel. The meat, sauce and fries were delicious! The food came quickly, the service was very friendly and funny. We would like to come again!

Zuerst mal: die Infos hier sind veraltet, incl. Speisekarte. Lage ist zwar super, aber Essen? Spiegelei war nicht ganz durch, Fish und Chips durchwachsen. Tipp: besser essen weiter vom Strand entfernt.

Liebe Leute, so wird ehrliche und bodenständige Küche neu und professionell interpretiert. Klasse. Eine Empfehlung für jeden, der sich eine Auszeit gönnen möchte, - unverbauter Blick auf die Nordsee inklusive. Super freundlicher und kompetenter Kellner. Klare Empfehlung.

Kommen sehr gerne wieder, das Essen war wie immer super lecker. Auch die nette Bedienung mit der Brille und dem blonden Dutt war super freundlich und sehr zuvorkommend. Können euch wärmsten weiter empfehlen.

Moin, wir waren am 05.09.2023 am Abend, auf ein-zwei Bier dort und wurden erst von einem netten Herrn bedient der wohl aus Süddeutschland kam. Am Ende unseres Besuches wurden wir sehr frech und schnippisch von einer Dame "rausgeworfen" mit den Worten sie will jetzt endlich Feierabend machen, ist schon 13 Std. am arbeiten, sie haben Personalmangel. Sie hat kein Problem damit die restlichen Getränke in einen Pappbecher umzufüllen, damit sie endlich Feierabend machen kann. Es waren noch 4 weitere Gäste dort, die alle ihr Getränk super schnell ausgetrunken haben und diese Art mit Gästen umzugehen auch alle echt schlimm fanden. Ich habe sie darauf angesprochen und es war ihr komplett egal. Wir kommen definitv NICHT wieder. Schade das man keine Minuspunkte vergeben kann.

Am Urlaubsort angekommen, um die Ecke dieses Bistro entdeckt, Dorsch bestellt und total begeistert gewesen 👍 Fisch und Kartoffelsalat sehr lecker, und unsere Bedienung war auch super freundlich.

Warum ist ein Bistro sauer wenn Gäste kommen? "Eww es klebt richtig"

Tolle Lage am Strand und verkehrsgünstig an der Kreuzung. Essen war essbar, aber definitiv keine Wiederholung wert. Bedienung schnippisch und spürbar lustlos. Einerseits sagen, man hätte Personalmangel, andererseits gelangweilt rumstehen, obwohl Gäste warten - passt nicht.

Das Essen war super und preislich vollkommen angemessen. Auch für Kinder eine tolle Auswahl. :-) Wir kommen während unseres Urlaubes gerne wieder.

Freundlichkeit ist eher glücksache hier!
