Bidlabu in Frankfurt am Main

Excellent intense cooking with full flavors and endless creativity. Punches above its weight and represents the best value for money in the city in my opinion. Excellent dishes included Turnip Cabbage, with avocado and tangerine, Königsberger Meatball, with spinach and char caviar, US beef (before tariffs, presumably) with béarnaise sauce and yellow beet, and dessert with a synthesis of flavors or saffron, pumpkin, and curd cheese and an apple base. Wine pairing (3 German one Austrian) was very well constructed. This is truly fine dining in a brutalist but attractive setting and with sensible portions.

Maybe we just had a bad day - February 14th - Unfortunately, at the reserved time of 8:15 p.m., 5 tables were still occupied and so 5 couples, spread out in a small room, waited about 15 minutes for a free table. VERY RUDE. Due to the time delay, the individual 7 courses were served quickly. The staff, varying in their level of friendliness, overwhelmed, no time for explanations with wine and food. The food was very tasty, but unfortunately it couldn't make up for the first bad impression. UNFORTUNATELY

This small, intimate restaurant in central Frankfurt was the perfect spot to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The laid-back atmosphere and excellent cuisine made for a truly special evening. We were especially thrilled it was open on a Monday!

Bidlabu offers great food in a cozy and intimate setting. The atmosphere is welcoming, and the service is mostly good. However, when I asked for a wine alternative, the response was unexpectedly dismissive. For a restaurant of this level, a more accommodating attitude would have been appreciated. While the meal was excellent, this detail took away from the experience.

This place was amazing. It’s small and intimate. There atmosphere was lovely. The host and waiters were all very pleasant and helpful. We did the 7 course tasting menu with wine pairing. Every dish was different and delicious in its own unique way. The wines were almost exclusively from either Germany or Switzerland.

It was a dinner that I enjoyed more than I expected. Although we were about 30 minutes late, the welcome was very kind. The only negative aspect was that the wine service was served twice before the glass was finished. The dessert may be the best dessert I have ever had in my life.

Food: Large menu with wine accompaniment. The individual courses were very good (e.g. soup), very decent (fish and meat courses), unspeakably bad (small crumbled pieces of blue mold under lettuce leaves or the tasteless desserts). We canceled the wine accompaniment that was offered. It consisted of inexpensive wines, all very young. They were provided uninspired. Instead, we chose ourselves from the extensive wine list (which had no apparent idea behind it and a flat selection). Service: The casually perfect service was initially pleasant. For example, the entrance door near our table blew a cold wind when it was heavily used, despite a cold protection curtain. Our request to sit at a usable table was honored immediately after the new table was wiped down. The cutlery placed unprotected on it exuded discomfort. But we are not at risk of infection. After we broke off the wine accompaniment to order a bottle of our own choice for €98, the service was as if it had changed. We were ignored without paying attention. Even though it was within the official opening hours, we ended up being inconvenient in the emptying pub. No, chairs were not put on the tables, but they were set up for the following day. Ambience: Puristic bistro style. Hard wooden chairs, raw wooden tables partly in the cold draft of the entrance door, view of the kitchen. Consistent, not bad, but uninspired, like essential parts of the dishes. Conclusion: Insider tip? Neither secret nor tip. Star level prices with no star level in sight.

You have to like it First of all - the bidlabu has one star and corresponding prices, so my expectations are higher. To start with the positive - the food was very good. There were 2 menus to choose from and you were completely free to choose from both. The individual courses were superbly prepared and presented and very tasty. The wine pairing also harmonized very well with the courses. Unfortunately, what I didn't like at all was the service. The bistro is very small - so it has few tables but also even less space. I didn't quite understand why four people work in service here, literally constantly standing on each other's feet and having their backs on the guests. But above all - of the 4 people who took turns serving us, unfortunately only one was at "star level" and was able to tell us something about both the preparation of the course and the corresponding wine. Everyone else just put the food and wine on the table and said something like: "That's a Chardonnay." Aha, I already knew that much. At an upscale restaurant with upscale prices, I expect more.

The store is a bit crowded, there are too many people. The service is not of Michelin star standard and lacks the sense of luxury of a Michelin restaurant. The most serious problem is that the dishes did not surprise me. Each dish either has too strong flavor or lacks layering. The overall taste is separated. This evaluation is based on one Michelin star. If there is no Michelin star, I can say that this restaurant is not bad, but calling it a Michelin restaurant is a bit inconsistent.

Definitely strong potential for improvement for the high price. Today, January 22nd, 2025, I went out to eat with my partner, chose 4-course menus including wine accompaniments and honestly can't understand the many positive reviews. Positive experiences: -the sourdough bread was fantastic .-the greeting from the kitchen was good (not very good but good). The warm soup was good at the beginning. -the venison was very good, very tasty. -The sweet wine, Neiss, Vogelsang Auslese from 2023 was very good and went well with ice cream. Negative experiences: -we sat next to the window and the cold air came in through the seal. -For me the prices were consistently 1/3 too expensive for the taste experience. -We were slightly pushed to go through the menu quickly and the new wine arrived where the old one had not yet been drunk. We would have liked more time, but I partially understand that since we didn't reserve a table. I would have liked the waiter at the door to send us away at the beginning, pointing out that time was limited. -Different waiters had different motivations. All in all, 260 euros for 1 hour 45 minutes is clearly, clearly too expensive for such an experience. At 180 euros including wine and two bottles of water, my rating would be “good” instead of “satisfactory”. At 150 euros we could start talking about "very good". Unfortunately, as of today, I cannot recommend this restaurant. Personally, I have to work hard for my money and therefore have high expectations. But that's just my assessment, everyone should form their own opinion.

What an incredible place for an unforgettable fine dining experience! Every dish in our 4 course meal was presented so beautifully and tasted absolutely amazing. The wine was also top-notch and paired perfectly with each course. The staff were super friendly and attentive, making sure we had a wonderful time throughout. Would totally recommend this place!

The restaurants name is inspired by “bidla buh” a lyric sung by singer Georg Kreisler. It’s modern European fare with a focus of farm to table ingredients. I stopped by with my friend to celebrate his belated birthday on a Friday evening and we wanted an environment that is low key and relaxed, more of a refined bistro. Surprisingly the menu is very flexible for an upscale dining venue. We appreciated the fact you can select the amount of courses and mix and match the dish and order however you like. Each dish was presented and explained by a staff member. We decided to go for wine by the glass although they do offer wine pairing and feature a thorough variety of wines. Standout items for us were the kurbis ravioli, Saibling, and Karotte. All were fresh and flavors were combined with some unique Creativity. Unfortunately, the catch on that day was cod and it was prepared not too well. It was flavorless and had 0 depth. The underwhelming duck and the miso cauliflower were quite mundane and forgettable. The venue is great value and we love the flexibility of the menu. They even brought out an additional dessert in celebration of my friend’s birthday and service was attentive and timed.

Food absolutely top. All courses at the highest level. Wine accompaniment was also very interesting and not 0815 chosen. Big differences in service. You were served by 5 different people, which I don't think is bad in itself. But the motivation and knowledge of what was served varied greatly - from very good to very irrelevant. We were also given a little too much gas when it came to serving. You don't treat yourself to an evening like this every day and you want to enjoy it too. For me, this also requires a certain amount of deceleration - which is why I would have liked a little more time between the courses and the next wine.

A very nice restaurant. We loved the atmosphere. The food was nice. We had a mushroom soup that was probably the best mushroom soup we’ve ever had. Other dishes were good too, but not as good. We had a cauliflower that was terrible, with extremely strong flavor, not in a tasteful way. The dessert was disappointing too.

I've been there for lunch several times now. The menus on offer are great and have a good price-performance ratio. There is always a vegetarian option too. Always happy again......

I’ve had plans of checking Bidlabu for some time, and unfortunately I was disappointed when we finally decided to go. The food was delicious, and the chef is definitely a star, so I liked all that we have tried, but I think that Michelin star restaurants should also provide an outstanding service, which is below average in this place. The sommelier was very arrogant and was even angry when I kindly asked to describe the wines and taste something before making my choice. Would not come back and recommend this place for those who appreciate a good service and nice atmosphere.

Food great, wines ok, service could have taken more care of the guests and description of the wines and dishes. The tables are placed relatively close together so there is little privacy. The waiters had very different motivations…

Absolutely loved our time in Bidlabu. First, I loved that they had two separate menus, one vegetarian and the other with fish / duck options. This already saves the pain of asking multiple changes and adjustments and asking many questions. I chose the vegetarian course menu and it was just great. Each dish was perfectly sized and packed a range of different flavours that were just delicious. The vegetables were fresh, the presentation was great and so was the service. Highly recommended.

Die Bemühungen, die Gänge mit der Weinbegleitung abzustimmen, waren spürbar, jedoch gelang dies unter deutlichem Zeitdruck nicht immer optimal. Die Speisen waren lecker und bis auf das Desert geschmackvoll angerichtet. Leider wurde am Ende mehr berechnet, als tatsächlich verzehrt wurde, und eine Erstattung schien aufgrund der Kartenzahlung nicht möglich? In dieser Preisklasse kann man insgesamt mehr erwarten.

Super nice food at very nice location! We came once in summer and it is amazing to sit outside, very casual fine dining. We also came in winter and the tables inside are a little to close to each other so it is not as nice as sitting outside. But still super good food! 100% recommended

As a single diner who arrived 25 minutes late (my fault entirely), I was impressed by the staff. At my request, they managed to guide me through the entire menu without making me feel rushed. The food was exceptional, and each wine complemented the dish beautifuly. I ended up feeling very full, but super satisfied! Thank you to the whole Bidlabu crew 🙌

The Bidlabu offered an unforgettable evening! Down-to-earth star kitchen in a small space. I particularly liked the non-alcoholic “wine” accompaniment.

Sensational! The food is on the same level as Chairs/FFM or Pankratz/Mainz. Wonderful first course with prawns, nice and fresh, tasty, sauce completely dipped from the plate with the bread. The artichoke soup was a little off, not because it was bad, just because it lacked a flavorful "boom." But it tasted good too! Fish of the day wonderfully cooked with a fresh note, the duck breast pink tender and very light crust on the skin. Great! And finally an exceptionally great plum dessert with cassis sorbet. Fresh, a bit of crunch, slight sweetness. You leave the menu happy and fresh. What is particularly worth mentioning is that there is a lot of choice of exceptional non-alcoholic drinks to accompany, not the usual soft drinks. Can only warmly recommend the aperitif! Service was great, unobtrusive, nice, explanatory when requested (only brief information about the courses, but told everything when asked!). Thanks! Only the lighting could be dimmed a bit ;) It's already very, very bright, a little "dimmier" would be more comfortable. Gladly again!

I celebrated my 18th birthday with my family at bidlabu and it was really nice. The food was excellent, I had the vegetarian menu and you were free to decide which courses you would like to choose. Even if you had the non-vegetarian menu, you could choose courses from the vegetarian menu or vice versa. The courses were very tasty and so was the menu as a whole. We always looked forward to the next course. Both the alcoholic wine accompaniment and the non-alcoholic beverage accompaniment were perfectly coordinated and complemented the courses wonderfully. I was able to discover many new non-alcoholic wines, which were really very well selected. The service was very attentive and we felt very comfortable and well looked after the entire time. bidlabu is definitely a place to visit for special occasions.

The lunch was nice and light, tastes could have been more intense, all well combined together, very good quality. Service is a bit confused, ok but not attentive or too welcoming in a way, wine selection by glass is very limited. I did not understand why bread is given in a paper bag, it does not look nice or practical, it should definitely be presented on a plate or in a bread basket. A bit too expensive in my view as room is very simple and they did not try to create a festive feeling. Maybe because it was a lunch time

Vielleicht war es ein Fehler, zur Messezeit dort zu Abend zu essen, das Lokal war voll und laut. Der Gastraum ist sehr klein, wirkt durch die Lichtgestaltung und die schlechte Akustik jedoch nicht sehr gemütlich. Das Essen war insgesamt sehr gut, wenn auch der Gruß aus der Küche und die Vorspeisen und Zwischengerichte (Lachs mit Avocado, Erbsensuppe) etwas belanglos waren. Ausgezeichnet war dagegen der Fisch mit Blumenkohl und das Kalb mit Pfifferlingen. Aber der Service! Es ist ungewöhnlich, dass man den Sekt zum Aperitif in einem Weinglas serviert bekommt. Dass der folgende Weißwein in genau dieses benutzte Glas ausgeschenkt wird und der Fehler nur auf Bitten hin korrigiert wird und beim Wechsel auf Rotwein die Bemerkung kommt "Sie waren das doch, der ein frisches Glas wollte", das bin ich in Lokalen dieser Preisklasse eher nicht gewohnt. Zwischendurch stockte der Service komplett und es gab für fast 45 Minuten keinen weiteren Gang mehr, so dass wir nach bald zwei Stunden noch auf den 4. von 6 Gängen warteten. Nein, da gibt es in Frankfurt bessere Adressen, die für deutlich weniger Geld ebenfalls ein sehr gutes Essen, aber einen guten Service bieten.

The restaurant located in a small ally which is cozy. Managed to booked a table right before they got the Michelin star, and the food was good, tasted the 6 course menu. Very fine and tasty restaurant, especially the price-performance ratio is right. Tasty to the point. Wine accompaniment is not always appropriate, but at least there is an offer to taste other wines. Service is usually attentive, but depends on how busy it is.

Simply always great. Everything. 1 small star deducted because the courses are often delivered too quickly when you have the entire vineyard management. Wine then usually has to be downed, which is always a shame with these wines so that you have the right wine for the right course. This could be timed a little better by the service. The rest is just perfect!

Absolute top address in Frankfurt!! Fine dining as it should be. Everything is harmonious, excellent dishes and wonderfully selected wine accompaniment. I don't think there's anything more that needs to be said about it. If the reader in this review is still considering reserving a table: Don't waste time, because the seats are highly sought after - and rightly so. PS: I have never (!) eaten strawberry ice cream like this in my life, it tasted like the better version of full-bodied, sweet strawberries in summer.

We love this everything about this restaurant. This is a true neighborhood spot. The winelist is fantastic with a long list of older GGs. We go to this restaurant every time we are in Frankfurt. We have even modified vacations just to stay in Frankfurt a night so we can go.

Wonderful restaurant, very good food and atmosphere. My only complaint is that the waiter at one point touched a piece of our bread with his bare hands and placed it on the table. Other than that, the dishes were spectacular, we both had the "non-vegetarian" tasting menu, and we were very impressed. The tomato soup was my favorite.

Excellent dishes beautifully presented. The vegetarian versions are also put together in great detail. The attentive and yet pleasantly reserved service is a blessing, you can feel very comfortable. Inside the ambience is pleasant, the seats on the street are a little rustic.

Really nice restaurant. Very focused menu - vegetarian and fish/meat. No frills. The food is fabulous, exquisite. The service was quick and very friendly. The only thing: it is quite expensive. In my opinion, €€€ would be the correct classification. The two of us paid €250 for two bottles of water and an aperitif. But I still really liked it! 👍

The quality of the food was excellent, unfortunately the new service was not convincing. The dishes and drinks were hardly introduced. We don't know whether it's due to ignorance or unwillingness to work. What a shame!

At Bidlabu I had my best meal in all of Frankfurt so far. Delicious compositions with great alcoholic and non-alcoholic accompaniment. Attentive service in a relaxed atmosphere. We'll definitely be back.

Food or 5-course menu was okay, but not so much that it caused high praise. In Frankfurt there are restaurants with better more ambitious cuisine!!!! (e.g. WEINSENN) And the ambience? O.k If you like a train station atmosphere! Bistros or taverns are usually more imaginatively and nicely decorated.

The food was really delicious, and the wine accompaniment was also appropriate. Maybe we had a bad day but unfortunately the courses were served at an extremely rapid pace. Sometimes we couldn't even finish the right wine before the next one was served. It was also a bit of a shame that there was no real explanation of the respective courses and accompanying wines. Overall, we would have liked a little more time to be able to enjoy the very interesting courses more.

I had made a reservation at Bidlabu on the occasion of a big birthday and had discussed this with the service team - they wanted to give us a nice table at the edge and they had also registered the birthday thing. Unfortunately, all of this was forgotten on site. No one acknowledged the big birthday and our table was so uncomfortable that it's hard to put it into words. Right in the middle of the small room, which is already way too crowded - you constantly have people around you, are jostled while eating, and can neither have a good conversation nor enjoy the food. It may be that Bidlabu wants to be a simple Bistrot Dowtown that just happens to have a star - but with that star comes a certain amount of responsibility when it comes to service and ambience. Unfortunately, both were really bad that evening. The food itself was good, sometimes very good - but Bidlabu lacks the finesse and wow effect of other star restaurants. And so you wonder how the star came about - for us the visit was a bitter disappointment and we certainly won't be coming back. Incidentally, we communicated our feedback directly to the restaurant before I published this review. The reaction: Birthday and table requests were written down, but unfortunately no one thought of it that evening. That's explaining everything.

Waren gleich nach dem 1. Besuch total überzeugt von diesem lecker, lockeren Konzept. Sehr freundlicher, aufmerksamer Service, sehr gute Weinvorschläge. Es gibt 2 Menüs, diese kann man nach Herzenslust mixen. Kulinarische Meisterklasse. Perfekter Abend im Bistro-Stil. Wurden bereits zu Serientätern und sind demnächst wieder dort.

We had a five-course dinner at Bidlabu with a matching wine arrangement. The restaurant is in a nice location and the atmosphere is very cozy. The food was very tasty with good combinations and the wine paired nicely with the dishes. While serving the dishes and wine, we only missed the explanation of what we were getting and which wine goes with it. I would definitely recommend it anywhere.

What we liked best was the service. Extremely friendly, but still professional. 10 points. The food was also really great. Overall, definitely recommended.

Fabulous creative cuisine in a casual bistro setting. Nice and attentive service. Good concept: 2 sessions in the evening at 6 and 8:15 p.m.; No a la carte, but 2 menus (one purely vegetarian) with 4 to 7 courses. Wine accompaniment to the individual courses is possible or bottled wine or by the glass. We enjoyed the fish course with cod and shrimp in a fragrant curry sauce best, as did the sophisticated pea soup. By the way: the 6 p.m. slot also works well and without time pressure because the team is very well organized.

Unpretentious bistro close to Goethestraße, Alte Oper and Fressgass' right in the center of Frankfurt. Small restaurant with room for just 30 guests (+ another 10 outside, weather permitting), so reservation is a must. The kitchen you can see from your table is tiny - but the meals the chef creates are fabulous! There are 2 slots in the evening, 18 and 20:15h, and they serve just 2 menues, one of them vegetarian. You can choose between 4 and 7 courses (during the 18h slot just between 4 or 5), and these were all outstanding. Wine comes either by the glas, bottle, or as a food/wine pairing (highly recommended). Service was friendly and well-organized, the atmosphere is urban-relaxed.

What a nice surprise! Update 2024: the kitchen consistently delivers great food, but don't hold your expectations for a Michelin starred service. I encountered a rushed, erratic, and poorly thought out service. I got kicked in my shoes by the waitresses nearly every time they attended the table, despite every attempt to keep my feet out of everyone's way. The space during colder months is crammed and if you're looking for enjoying food in peace, you likely won't find it here. But you will find good food. I really think they would do better by moving out of city center and into a bigger space. After all this is what a Michelin star is about.. people going out of their way to enjoy really good food. In my view their concept is not working any more. It's way too crowded, and even the best waiter will struggle to deliver good service in such conditions. This is not a bistro and they should stop pretending being one. The meals are neither simple nor cheap, only the setting is.

tolles konzept, locker,sympathisches team und spitzenküche, in bistro atmosphäre! hier stimmt alles, da sieht man, auch mit gehobenen und nicht wie heute meist, völlig überteuerten menüs kann man leben, preis/leistung einwandrei! dafür ist das bidlabu auch mittags und abends sehr gut bis ausgebucht, weiter so, ihr seid spitze!!

It's so good, but now it's hard to make a reservation If you want to eat real food in Phu, where there is not enough food, this restaurant is definitely worth a visit!

We had a lovely evening at Bidlabu. The vegetarian dishes and dessert were particularly delicious. The fish and shrimp were missing that certain something. The cheese wasn't special. The service was very nice, even if we were forgotten for one course. But we were given a free drink as an apology, which we were very happy about. We'd love to come back!

Tasty, aromatic and rustic. The food was excellent but the choice of wine accompaniment was unfortunately not on point.

This is so far the best dinner I’ve have in Frankfurt & Munich! We did the 5 course tasting menu. Every single dish had a unique flavor which keeps you wanting more! Service was also amazing and each staff member had a smile on (which is not to easy to find in Germany)! The only thing I found interesting was that there was a guy who came inside the restaurant and went around all tables to sell roses - never saw this at a Michelin restaurant before.

Fabulous food, with a glass panel allowing you to watch the chefs being prepared. Very friendly staff and excellent wine pairing. The only thing that needs to be improved is the atmosphere, as the tables are very small and there is not much space in the restaurant. The time slots are also a bit tight for all courses.

Once a year we go out to eat together at a fancy restaurant. Unfortunately this year it wasn't as nice an experience as usual. Unfortunately, things didn't start off so well with the starters. The bread served was generally tasty, but most of the slices were very dry. So much so that you could even see it clearly with your eyes. If we as laymen can recognize this, I wonder how something like this can happen to professionals at this price range? Afterwards, my companion had a piece of aluminum foil (!!) in the soup. Here, too, I simply expect something different given the price range. The service also seemed a bit overwhelmed at times. One time a course (soup) was cleared away that had not yet been eaten. Furthermore, different waiters tried to clear a bottle twice and then noticed when they picked it up that there was still something in it. The second time I even had to explicitly say that it wasn't empty yet. I hope that these are simply small, exceptional errors that can definitely happen. Unfortunately it wasn't the best experience for us.

The food is really sophisticated and very tasty, but unfortunately far too little for the price. If you don't get full despite 5 courses and bread, something can go wrong for just under 90 euros per person without drinks. Unfortunately, the windows aren't tight, so it's really cold to the feet and also drafty. The furnishings are not shabby-chic but simply cheap and old. The cutlery is reminiscent of university times and canteens. The service is attentive, but the pressure to pay at the end is not good.
