The food is delicious but slightly overpriced. The staff seemed overwhelmed and forgot about a drink. We waited about 30 minutes for the food, which we ordered about 20 minutes later, and it arrived at the table earlier than the meal. I would describe the occupancy that evening as normal. It takes forever for a server to even ask if anything else is okay or if you want anything else. In conclusion, you can go there, but you don't have to. I'd rather go somewhere else.

after some weisswurst with senf we enjoyed käsespätzli, wiener schnitzel and jägerschnitzel with pommes and salads. we had some weissbier and pils and white wine with the food.

The food was okay, but nothing revelatory. We would have expected better quality from the schnitzel and redfish, something more distinct from convenience foods. The service was very friendly and attentive. The ambiance was also quite good. It wasn't bad, but we don't need to go back, even though we actually love Bavarian cuisine.

Aside from the acoustics, the restaurant is quite nice. The food available is tasty. But there wasn't a single vegan dish listed on the menu. While the waitresses were super friendly, the owner turned the evening on the downside with his rant that he couldn't keep any vegan items on hand, because he'd have to throw them away anyway, as it was too expensive. Boy, if that's what you want, you shouldn't just boastfully write it on the menu. That's clickbait.

We ate there yesterday around 4 p.m. after making an online reservation. You can skip making a reservation at that time, as the restaurant was completely empty. We were the only guests inside. The waiter gave us his recommendation, and we chose our drinks and dishes from the menu. We got our drinks after a while and waited maybe another 15 minutes for the food. The dishes were very large portions and very, very tasty. They offered us more gravy on the house, and I didn't regret it. It was delicious and went perfectly with the meat and potatoes on my plate. They repeatedly and very discreetly asked us if everything was okay and if we needed anything. I thought that was very good. We had a short, pleasant chat with the waiter while clearing the table and paying, and it turned out that he was actually the chef. We told him how delicious everything was and promised to come back. We will definitely do so again. A clear recommendation for this restaurant.

The pork knuckle was very good with mashed potatoes and sauerkraut, but different from what I've had on other occasions, but still very good. On the other hand, I had to call a waitress for dessert because it was hard, and she very kindly changed it for me, which was very good.

We were at the Benediktiner today. I was hoping for Schäuferle (pork knuckle), but unfortunately they didn't have any. So I ordered a pork knuckle with sauerkraut and mashed potatoes on the side. The size was perfectly adequate. The mashed potatoes and sauerkraut were also good. The ambiance is also very nice. The price-performance ratio is also decent. I hope it stays open longer... This wasn't the last time we were there... Update from September 12, 2025: Tried Schäufele (pork knuckle) today. It was really good.

First of all. We (6 people) tried the restaurant twice at the end of August and the beginning of September 2025 (you always have to give things a second chance). Unfortunately, the experiences were sometimes very different and sometimes very disappointing. On the first visit, I tried to explain to an older waiter (boss?) that we would very much like to sit outside despite having made an online reservation. The very quick response (the waiter interrupted me in a completely rude manner) was, "You talk too much, just sit down somewhere!" You can probably imagine that I couldn't say another word to our group that evening. The behavior was simply presumptuous and rude! Funny, then, that the same man told us on the second attempt, eight days later, while we were still standing in front of the restaurant (we didn't have a reservation this time/it was lunchtime during the week), that it was a mistake not to make a reservation, because sometimes everything suddenly fills up very quickly! Uh, yes, if everything is suddenly booked very quickly and unexpectedly, then that only works if the guests arriving after us don't have reservations either. Otherwise, suddenly and unexpectedly, it's not possible!!! Of course, everything inside and outside was practically empty. My internal question: "Who's talking too much?" To clarify: All the other waiters (an older man at the first visit, two women at the second) were really very nice, quick, polite, and attentive. We found the ambiance in the restaurant very appealing. The drinks came quickly and were all delicious, and the cold drinks were very well chilled. When it comes to the rustic food (we're fans of "brewery food"), two hearts beat faster for us as a group. The food/menu is undoubtedly rustic, and the price is reasonable in our opinion. However, we didn't find several things very good. The sauerkraut was "normal" and very tasty on the first visit. The second attempt, it was prepared completely differently. The sauerkraut was swimming in a very generous, very whitish, and slightly sweet sauce. Three people at the table were surprised by the completely different preparation and the distinct flavor. As mentioned, there were exactly eight days between meals. In our opinion, the Kaiserschmarrn was missing raisins. It seemed as if it wasn't homemade, but rather mixed from a packet. The Schäufle (shredded pork), which was absolutely delicious the first time (which is why several people ordered it the second time), was so dry on the second visit (the meat) that you had to chew on it for hours. As a result, two plates weren't even finished. The half-handle of fries lacked any decoration on the plate. The "Kraftpaket" (the first visit) had a thimbleful of pulled pork. But that's not all: the meat is garnished inside the baked potato itself. This means you have a very modest amount of meat, and you also cut away a whole piece of potato to fit the meat in. It's therefore a very manageable portion. What we found worst, however, was the overall variation in preparation and quality within exactly 8 days. Despite the constructive criticism, we would definitely stop here again if we were to visit Dortmund. However, for a small, rustic meal, but not because it's a must-do during a Dortmund visit. We wouldn't drive into the city center just for this, without other things to do!

Delicious food with a great atmosphere and friendly service

Huge portion, good flavor. The 'small' cucumber salad on the menu was more like a full-sized salad plate. The only thing that bothered me at first were two flies. When I got annoyed and removed one, three or four more came along to annoy me even more. The seating could have been a bit softer for my back.

Good, home-style cooking. The food was delicious and good value for money. Drinks are available, as usual: soft drinks, various beers, and, above all, homemade lemonade. Always worth a visit.

If you're looking for Bavarian food, this is the place to go. We sat outside and ordered Leberkäse (liver sausage) and a knuckle of pork. It came quickly and tasted great. The beer was okay, but for a northern German... Despite my appetite, I couldn't quite finish the knuckle. Packing it up and taking it with me was no problem. May the force be with you.

Good and friendly service. The food is okay, but some of it doesn't have much in common with typical Bavarian specialties. For example, the "Brotzeitbrettl" (a kind of bread and butter platter). There's still room for improvement. The size of the meals, however, is really adequate. The price/performance ratio is good.

Cozy Bavarian atmosphere, good drinks, and super friendly staff. The menu focuses on standard schnitzels, burgers, and baked potatoes with Bavarian names. The old menu, on the other hand, was typically Bavarian, and that's what it's all about. Our food was decent, but there's room for improvement. If management makes a few improvements to the food, this will be a great place.

Five of us went there because of the often-recommended knuckle of pork. And it was truly as good as promised. The staff and the chef were always up for a joke and created a great atmosphere. It won't be our last visit.

The best part of the selection is the beer. The paprika sauce contains too much sugar, and the roast chicken contains too much water. Death must have been a relief for the animal. The prices are reasonable, though.

Definitely recommended! We had a reservation midweek, so there were plenty of free seats. It's very clean here (including the restrooms 😉), the service is very friendly, and they even had a "lunch menu" at 3 p.m. in addition to the regular menu + drinks menu. The selection is quite large, both for food and drinks, which is very nice. My "knuckle of pork" was really good and filling, but my wife's chicken, including fries, was unfortunately "swimming in fat*, which wasn't pleasant. A little less fat, and everything would have been perfect. The prices are reasonable.

A truly lovely restaurant. You can sit both inside and outside. It's beautifully decorated, and the location is very central and good. We were greeted very politely and friendly by the wine waitress. We were free to choose our table. The food was fresh and very well prepared, absolutely delicious 😋. The spritzer and wheat beer were very good and well chilled. We will definitely come back. Absolutely recommended! If you like Bavarian food and a mix of modern and wooden ambiance, this is the place for you. We, two adults and two children (11 and 5 years old), ordered the Schlachtplatte (meat platter), chicken nuggets, and the children's schnitzel. The portions were more than generous and VERY TASTY! The service was very friendly and attentive. It was our first time, but definitely not the last 😊😋

I arrived right on time for the reopening. The name remains the same, the dishes are new and/or have new names that are very reminiscent of various regions in Bavaria. The knuckle of pork, which was already good back then, is now even better. Add to that the very attentive and friendly staff and a chef who is always with the guests. Very, very nice.

The Benediktiner Wirtshaus in Dortmund immediately appealed to me with its friendly atmosphere and modern interior. The staff was very friendly and attentive, which made a great first impression. Unfortunately, the Schlachtplatte wasn't my highlight of the evening. The meatballs and Käsekrainer looked like convenience foods, which unfortunately was reflected in the taste. However, the steak was very well prepared and delicious. The potato salad was super tasty, and the gravy was okay. The drinks were very tasty, and the restrooms were clean and well-maintained. Overall, the visit was okay, but I think the inn has potential if they were to improve their dishes a bit. The friendliness of the staff and the modern atmosphere are definitely plus points.

I've been here a few times and was really sad when I closed for a while, but now it's finally back. From spaetzle, knuckle of pork, burgers, and even salad, I can recommend everything. The menu is even better than before, slightly updated with funny names. The service is always excellent, with plenty of Ruhrpott charm, even though it's a Bavarian restaurant. They always do everything they can to get a table at short notice. I highly recommend trying the desserts too. Good luck to you, see you soon.

Very good restaurant if you want to enjoy Bavarian cuisine. And that in Dortmund city center. My knuckle was very well prepared. The freshly tapped light beer is also recommended. The service worked flawlessly and the cellar provided friendly and competent answers to all questions about the dishes available in the inn. For me it was a nice experience to eat there. You should improve the ambience a little bit. When it's full there is a relatively high noise level. I can recommend the Benedictine Wirtshaus to everyone.

Mega tasty and the lunch portions were perfect. The service was quick too. Unfortunately it was very loud that day because of the stage setup.

I once tried the burger with pickled onions and alpine cheese. To my surprise, it was really good. The fries were perfect and the beer was delicious. Super friendly staff. I'll be back.

If you like something hearty, this is the right place for you! Very tasty and good portions, you quickly establish a good rapport with the staff, who are happy to take some time for their guests. The food and the staff take you to an imaginary place in southern Germany. An all-round successful concept that has impressed us many times. We would love to come back!

Super fast and friendly service

It is an original and clean place. It is decorated like a typical German tavern. It's very pretty. The food is more than delicious. We ordered a board for two people of vegetables and cheese...spectacular and giant. For dessert, the famous applestrudel was finger-licking good. The beer was also very tasty, we tried some on tap with and without alcohol. The Benedik White had a lot of flavor and was very rich.

We had a drink there by chance, the staff is amazing... you can tell they still enjoy their job and put their hearts into it, thank you for the lovely evening... we'll be back

So we were there twice this week and in both cases we were put down quite rudely twice by the innkeeper/service manager.. in the service area you shouldn't do that and have a relaxed manner and not stand for "clear conditions".. I was for 4:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. reserved by phone but it was written down as 5 p.m. Since it was quite empty inside and we then jokingly said "we're there a little earlier (4:15 p.m.) but it's not that crowded shouldn't be a problem" the answer was "I didn't say it wasn't possible" in a tone that wasn't appropriate. To smooth things over, we said it was fun. But that too was dismissed in a rather unfriendly tone with “I am in favor of clear conditions”. That was the last visit for us, even though the food and the waiters were good. It's a shame when managers ruin things like that...

There are restaurants that I visit regularly, like this one. The service staff is always very committed and courteous. The dishes are very tasty and hearty. The portions are very generous so everyone gets full. The price is absolutely reasonable for what is on offer.

The food is great, the waiters were probably already tired. Empty glasses are a no go. But after a short notice everything was sorted out. What's wrong is the acoustic sound system. First boom boom music and then too loud. You can hardly have a conversation. It doesn't have to be Bavarian tuba music, but it doesn't have to be something like that either.

The staff are great. The boss should think about how he talks to the guests in stressful situations. Otherwise great place. It's a shame that the cushions always disappear from the chairs.

They gave us completly diffrent recepit on higher amount. When we had complains they kick us from the bar. Very unfrendly manager. Be carefull!!!

The restaurant looked good at first glance, the food was even good, but the service is Turkish women who, when paying the bill, always print 2 receipts, one with an inflated price of 5 euros, and when you then give them your IDs and statements, they pretend that everything is fine and show you the second receipt.

Tried my first European schnitzel here at the request of some local friends. Which was good. One of the others in my party ordered the Haxe Mit Kraut and it was the best plate at the table of 4. Would recommend that above all else! Don’t make my mistake!

Crazy to ask for food at 21:45 and being told that the kitchen is closed. On a Saturday. While Dortmund is hosting the EUROs. Not sure if there’s no liquidity to finance additional staff for extra hours, if they are not proud promoters of German cuisine or if the owner is not a fan of Cristiano Ronaldo. It is what it is. Made it to the Italian next door and the pizza was as good as in Napoli. After 22! Crazy! Shocking scenes!

I've been here several times. At intervals of half a year and today I was very disappointed. Every time I ordered the knuckle. Last time there was less mashed potatoes and cabbage, but today the knuckle was also smaller. At a price of over €25 I expect to be full. This was not the case this time. The taste was great, but that's 2 kebabs and they cost half as much. Think about it...

Really horrible, if I could have given no stars I would have done so, the meat which is called “Angus” is visibly meat but in terms of taste has the same taste as a sole, me and my friend we try to knock with a piece of the steak and unfortunately we succeeded, I think that cooking it is asleep on the cooking, it's a shame that Phillipe Etchebest does not exist in Germany. And when we wanted to pay we were forced to pay a tip for a more than horrible and mediocre dinner, I don't recommend it except if you are a masochist

The food is as you would expect from Bavaria. Delicious. However, some of the food at our table was cold. We then told a service person about it. However, she rolled her eyes and didn't immediately understand why she should heat the food again. Except for this meal, everyone was satisfied and praised the food.
