Bembel & Gretel in Usingen

Starter: Beetroot carpaccio - goat cheese good, not very good. Salad too. Unfortunately very little beetroot, a bit weak but well crafted. Main course: Green sauce - very weak, schnitzel on the other hand good - but not very good. Fried potatoes really good. Side salad drowned in vinegar, a shame. 🍔 wildburger: the ingredients don't match, the patty is too dry, but the taste could definitely be going in the right direction. Game meat content good, spices good. Ingredients in the burger are generally quite high quality, there is definitely potential here. Cranberry? Unfortunately, if it doesn't fit into the taste, it doesn't become a relevant part of the mouthfeel - it's a shame that points are wasted. Fries good. Waited a little long but not worth mentioning - unfortunately a drink order went missing, that can happen. Service was otherwise generally very nice and seating was particularly good.

It was a disaster. We ordered our food at 6:45 p.m....at 8 p.m. I pointed out to the waiter that it might be time to serve us something. An incredulous look hit me. I can't accept an excuse "it's unfortunately so full today". How bold can you be to treat your guests like that? At 8:30 p.m. I packed my things and left the restaurant. Never see me again. Never experienced anything like this before. Then I went to the kebab around the corner with my sweetheart. Dear owners of Bembel and Gretel, please learn the ABCs of gastronomy. If you can't handle that many guests (the store was full) then you can't accept that many reservations. You are a disaster.

At Gretel and Bembel you can sit in a lovely atmosphere with a great view towards Feldberg or the old market square. We had reserved a table. As a starter we had a cappuccino cup full of a very tasty pumpkin soup. For the main course we had schnitzel with mushroom cream sauce, onion meatloaf and Wiener schnitzel. The sauce for Schnitzel was a bit too runny and didn't have enough flavor. The fried potatoes were peeled and almost not fried or seasoned at all - a shame. The side salad, the Wiener Schnitzel and the meat were delicious. The portions for the main courses were great. The service was very attentive. We'd love to come back.

Im Gretel und Bembel sitzt in einem schönen Ambiente mit tollem Blick Richtung Feldberg oder auf den alten Marktplatz. Wir hatten einen Tisch reserviert. Als Vorspeise hatten wir eine Cappuccino Tasse voll mit einer sehr leckeren Kürbissuppe. Als Hauptspeise hatten wir Schnitzel mit Pilzrahmsauce, Zwiebelhackbraten bzw. Wiener Schnitzel. Die Sauce zum Schnitzel war etwas zu flüssig und hatte zu wenig Geschmack. Die Bratkartoffeln waren mit Schale und fast überhaupt nicht angebraten und gewürzt- sehr schade. Der Beilagensalat, das Wiener Schnitzel und das Fleisch waren lecker. Die Portionen waren bei den Hauptgerichten prima. Der Service war sehr aufmerksam. Wir kommen gerne wieder.

We have been going to Bembel and Gretel regularly for two years and have never been disappointed. The food is very tasty, they always use fresh ingredients. The waitresses are always very attentive and friendly and the atmosphere inside and outside on the beautiful market square is great.

We were disappointed!! Had reserved a table in advance for 6.30 p.m. The place was very full for a Monday, which is a good sign. Unfortunately we waited 1.5 hours for our food. The side salad was served during the main course. A single guest who arrived significantly later was served immediately and had already left the restaurant and we hadn't even had our food yet. We won't be coming back here any time soon. It's a shame, we weren't satisfied with this service.

Restaurant on the market square with a lot of flair. Very good food with great staff. When the restaurant manager is there, you notice even more how the place is running even better. Good food, friendly and fast service. We sat outside at first, but then had to go indoors because of a thunderstorm. Unfortunately it is quite loud there, so it was difficult to have a conversation. The food is definitely recommended and we will definitely eat here again.

We spent a warm summer evening here. Perfect ambience on the old market square with a holiday feeling. The two Viennese schnitzels with fried potatoes Grandma's style plus a small salad tasted very good. The burger was also very tasty. Despite the restaurant being full, the service was very attentive and friendly. The price, performance and gastronomic standards are right here. We'd love to come back!!!! What we did then: Sat in the beautiful square again for a late Sunday lunch. Very attentive service. The salad “Nina's summer salad” with king prawns, chicken, falafel and mushrooms was a feast for the eyes when it was brought out. The taste is also very diverse and delicious. The dish of the day was meatloaf with fried potatoes and a side salad, also tasty and very filling. At the end, the house was treated to a refreshing cocktail of apple liqueur on ice, and for the driver a version without alcohol. We felt very, very comfortable and in good hands here..

I was there today and had a burger 🍔, it was one of the worst burgers I've eaten in my life. Never again

The portions used to be a little larger and tasted better. I found the schnitzel to be too dry, the green sauce and fried potatoes not enough. The prices are too expensive for the food and a Meatloaf for almost 20 euros!!! Sorry, that doesn't work for a bit of minced meat. I'm not going there anymore

A very nice restaurant, it's nice to sit inside and out. The menu is not too big, but still has a good selection. Particularly noteworthy is the service, staff “hand-picked” by the chef who are friendly and attentive. I can only recommend it, a trip to Usingen is worth it.

Attracted by the beautiful website and the exciting menu, we went to “Bembel und Gretel” for dinner. It's really nice to sit there in the market square. The food we ordered came so quickly that we wondered whether a microwave had been used. The chanterelles in cream sauce with fried potatoes were designated as a main course due to the portion size, but were an appetizer. You could look for the chanterelles in a light, tasteless sauce with a magnifying glass. There was clearly too much sugar in the mixed salad served with it. The vegetarian burger was presented in a strong grain bun, which is initially positive. But the knives were so blunt that it was difficult to eat him. It consisted of three small, crumbly, dry falafels, a slice of watery, tasteless tomato, a slice of eggplant cooked almost to a pulp and a few huge lettuce leaves and - a no-go - for a decent burger: raw onions. The burger costs 17.50 euros without any side dishes. I think that's overpriced. However, the schnitzel with fries at the next table looked good. So it's more of a place for the schnitzel and fries group. Too bad.

Angelockt von der schönen website und der spannenden Speisekarte sind wir zum Abendessen ins „Bembel und Gretel“ gegangen. Man sitzt dort wirklich schön auf dem Marktplatz. Das bestellte Essen kam so schnell das wir uns die Frage stellten, ob da eine Mikrowelle eingesetzt wurde. Die Pfifferlinge in Rahmsoße mit Bratkartoffeln waren zwar als Hauptgericht ausgewiesen von der Portion her aber eine Vorspeise. Die Pfifferlinge in heller geschmacksneutraler Soße konnte man mit der Lupe suchen. Am dazu gereichten gemischten Salat war eindeutig zu viel Zucker. Der vegetarische Burger wurde in einem kräftigen Körnerbrötchen präsentiert, was erst einmal positiv ist. Nur waren die Messer so stumpf, dass man Probleme hatte ihn zu Essen. Er bestand aus drei kleinen krümeligen, trocknen Falafel, einer Scheibe wässriger geschmackloser Tomate, einer Scheibe fast zu Brei gekochter Aubergine und ein paar riesigen Salatblättern und – ein no go– für einen ordentlichen Burger: rohen Zwiebeln. Der Burger kostet ohne jegliche Beilage 17,50 Euro. Das finde ich überteuert. Die Schnitzel mit Pommes am Nachbartisch sahen jedoch gut aus. Also eher ein Lokal für die Schnitzel mit Pommes Fraktion. Schade.

The food was very tasty, the atmosphere was inviting and the boss dealt with our mishap with the gourmet block in a completely calm and uncomplicated manner. We'd love to come back!

I've been there three times over the course of a year. But yesterday was probably the last time. I was there for almost 3 hours, 90% of the time I was looking at an empty table or an empty glass. I had to ask for the bill 3 times and it took an hour until I was finally able to pay.

Had dinner again today. Totally nice atmosphere. It's really good to sit outside. The steak and salad were great, kudos to the chef. Also nice staff. The managing director is simply nice and coordinates his staff brilliantly. Despite being extremely full, we got a nice seat. For me it's currently the best restaurant in the area, praise to the team and the managing director

Great location, beautifully situated. Food quality overpriced and mediocre. Service always tried hard.

We've been there several times, everything was always great, but not today. We arrived as a group of 5 at 6:30 p.m. We were able to order drinks along with the food at 6:45 p.m. Thanks to the appetizer platter, we were able to curb our hunger until 7:50 p.m. There were no more drinks because no one came anymore. Some of the schnitzels were cold and dry, quick and thin from the deep fryer - whereas the one from the next table was nice and thick and had a bubbly, crispy breading. The double cheeseburger was so big that you could hardly eat it and didn't want to eat it after the first bite because the meat was very dry. The sauce on the meatloaf already had skin on it and was no longer warm. The price-performance ratio is now questionable: paying over 20 euros for a herb pancake with a little salad and chicken, you wonder what justifies the price.

The food is down-to-earth and good, but nothing special. For me the price is way too high. A cheeseburger with fries for 20 EUR is unjustifiable. The staff deserve 5 stars, everyone is so friendly and helpful despite the enormous stress. It couldn't be better!

This was my first and possibly last time in this restaurant. The potatoes were cut just like… undercooked, the meat was fried in old oil and tasted bitter. Although there wasn’t much meat there, 4/3 was dough. There are an awful lot of people, and you can’t breathe in the restaurant. We waited 1.5 hours for our order. I gave it 3 stars for good service and a cool waiter who often makes jokes)

We were here in the restaurant for a small family celebration. Orders were taken quickly and food and drinks were served without long waiting times, despite the fact that it was very busy. Everything was very tasty, there were large portions. The waitresses and the boss were all very friendly. Unfortunately, the conversation was a bit difficult because the acoustics are not that optimal. But we definitely recommend Bembel & Gretel.

Sweet, sweet service, the landlord knows something about long drinks (at least the one who was responsible for the Cairincha. All good, you shouldn't forget! - Frankfurt front area (drugs like "crack") But a nice idyll here! - At least from there 11.00 a.m.!!! (Until about 1 p.m.!!!) Great restoration despite being a listed building in this old Huguenot building. A very nice atmosphere, especially in summer, when a street musician with a brass instrument accompanies the scene. The menu is not too extensive, which in my opinion speaks for quality, especially since it changes seasonally. There is a selection of regional dishes and drinks. Price-performance is good. I enjoy being there and I enjoy sitting outside on the market square, especially in the summer months. I fully recommend it if you don't expect star cuisine but want to have a cozy, home-style meal. For me a great option in Usingen!

Viennese schnitzel, rump steak, variations of dumplings, pasta with side dishes and boiled beef. Here's another compliment to the kitchen for the great food. We'd love to come back.

Despite seats in the front area which seemed appealing, we were placed in the back corner. Very bright, loud and tends to be uncomfortable. Service was very nice but it took too long. Unfortunately the fried potatoes were inedible because they were raw. Despite criticism, there was no feedback. The dessert was filled with the wrong ice cream and was therefore poor. I wouldn't go there anymore. The price-performance ratio was too bad for that!!!

After reading the reviews, the 4 of us expected more from the food. Fried potatoes almost black and hardly seasoned at all. The meatloaf lived up to its name. You had to press hard and almost hack to get it small. The mushroom sauce for the schnitzel had a nasty aftertaste. It was very loud all around so that you had to talk very loudly. Only the service was very good. All the waitresses at our table were friendly and helpful.

Tasty and good food. We'll be back, especially in the summer when you can sit outside on the market square.

Wir waren am 28. Dezember in "Bembel und Gretel". Speisen und Service waren ausgezeichnet. Wegen der 19 % Mehrwertsteuer ist es wie in allen Gaststätten nun etwas teuer, aber es hat sich gelohnt.

Wir waren gestern Abend das dritte Mal bei Bembel und Gretel zu Gast. Rundum ein sehr schönes Restaurant!! Das Essen kam wie immer sehr schnell und war ausgezeichnet lecker!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Allerdings fiel uns während unserem Aufenthalt schon das zweite Mal auf, dass der Chef sehr lautstark und respektlos mit der für uns sehr aufmerksamen und freundlichen Kellnerin sprach. Das letzte Mal stellte er einen anderen Kellner vor den Gästen dermaßen bloß, was auch wir am Nachbartisch definitiv mitbekommen haben. Das Personal wirkte in den Situationen sehr eingeschüchtert! Ich finde sowas gehört keinesfalls in den Restaurantbetrieb, da es leider das schöne Ambiente kaputt macht..Geschweige denn so ausfällig zu werden und generell solch eine Ausdrucksweise und Respektlosigkeit seinen Angestellten entgegenzubringen… sehr schade für das liebe und engagierte Servicepersonal.

Optisch toll angerichtete und sehr schmackhafte Speisen, sehr gemütliches Ambiente,wunderschön eingerichtet. Freundliche,sehr engagierte Bedienung.Es war ein schöner Abrnd den wir hier verbracht haben.TOP 5 Sterne.

Heute waren wir im Bembel und Gretel zu einer Vorstandsitzung unseres Clubs. Vorab ist positiv zu bewerten, dass uns bereits im Vorfeld Wünsche zu unserer vollsten Zufriedenheit erfüllt wurden. Wir bekamen wie gewünscht einen Tisch am Rand zugewiesen. Das Ambiente ist eine Mischung zwischen hessischer Tradition und leicht gehobener Gaststättenatmosphäre, ohne das die Menschlichkeit verloren geht. Hier fühlt man sich sofort als gern gesehener Gast. Das Cordon Bleu war geschmacklich sehr gut und mehr als ausreichend. Dazu ein sehr frischer Salat. Alles in allem: Note 1 mit Sternchen

Bedienung sehr freundlich. Toiletten sauber. Ich hatte ein Handkässchnitzel mit frischem Beilagensalat, sehr zum empfehlen.

Gans war super lecker!!!! Sehr schönes Ambiente! Besonders der nette Kellner Mick hat uns toll bewirtet. Wir hatten einen tollen Abend. Jederzeit wieder.

Waren mittags um 12 Uhr da. Hatten freie Platzwahl da nicht viel los war. Das Essen ist super lecker und eine ordentliche Portion. Der Service war auch sehr nett. Würde auf jeden Fall wieder kommen

Wir waren zum Krimi Diner in diesen herrlichen Restaurant. Für den Preis von 84€ pro Person wurde uns viel geboten. Zuerst Salat mit 2 Gemüsebällchen auf Auberginencreme als kleiner Gruß aus der Küche. Danach eine sehr leckere Champignoncremesuppe, als Hauptgang gab es Rindergulasch vom Entrecote mit Spätzle und Rotkraut und zum Dessert Vanilleeis mit Himbeeren. Zwischen den Gängen wurde das Stück "Mord um Mitternacht" von 2 tollen Schauspielern gespielt. Es war ein sehr unterhaltsamer Abend mit tollen Gastgebern, leckerem Essen und schönem Ambiente. Absolut empfehlenswert.

Sehr netter aufmerksamer Service. Ambiente ist angenehm. Gutbürgerliche Küche und schmackhafte Zubereitung. Man fühlt sich wohl.

Man kann hier sehr schön auf dem Platz vor dem Restaurant sitzen. Das Essen wird frisch zubereitet und ist sehr gut, daher muss man etwas länger warten.

Die gutbürgerlichen Speisen kann man auch draußen an Tischen auf dem Marktplatz genießen. Es brauchte zwar etwas Zeit, das bestellte Essen sieht aber nicht nur lecker aus, es schmeckt auch gut.

Eine angenehme Atmosphäre mit bunt zusammengewürfelten, und besonders drinnen hübschen alten Tischen und Stühlen. Auf dem Marktplatz sitzt man sehr angenehm und manchmal gibt es Musik. Das Essen war sehr lecker, hübsch und ansprechend angerichtet mit schönem Geschirr und eine gute Menge, nicht zu viel und nicht zu wenig. Besonders lobend erwähnen möchte ich unsere junge Bedienung, die ihren Job wirklich toll gemacht hat und uns sehr willkommen fühlen hat lassen.

Schnitzel war leider nicht nach meinen Geschmack sehr dünn und viel zu lange gebraten nach Reklamation neues bekommen leider auch ein bisschen zu lange in der Pfanne

Ich war am Montag zu der Mittagszeit dort und das Essen war einfach top 👍🏽 der Service war wirklich gut..muss man loben!! wir werden definitiv demnächst wieder kommen. :-)

Essen war sehr lecker. Die jugendlichen Bedienungen sind nicht so souverän/professionell und wegen der trendgerechten Einrichtung ist es sehr laut. Der Blick in die " Hofbaustelle" ist auch nicht so prickelnd. ... alles aber kein Grund, nicht gerne wieder hinzugehen.

Schade, da hätte man mehr draus machen können. Die Eigentümer gaben sich wirklich viel Mühe beim Umbau des Gebäudes. Man hat sich wirklich auf ein tolles Restaurant in Usingen gefreut. Wir waren mehrfach dort. Am Anfang dachten wir noch, ok Startschwierigkeiten, Leider hat sich nichts geändert: 1. Preise: Wir sind sehr gerne bereit, die Preise auf der Speisekarte zu zahlen, wenn die Qualität auch stimmt. Tut sie leider nicht. 2. Unfreundlich. Die Eigentümerin und das ein oder andere Stammpersonal haben ihren Job nicht verstanden. Man kann froh sein, wenn man von freundlichen Aushilfen bedient wird. Die sind toll! Wahrscheinlich muss man bei den Besitzern erst persönlich bekannt sein, um als Gast gut behandelt zu werden, andernfalls kann ich mir die guten Bewertungen nicht erklären. Liebes B&G Team: Ihr habt da eigentlich eine Goldgrube. Nehmt die Kritik an und ändert etwas. Dann kommen wir gerne wieder oder empfehlen Euer Lokal weiter.

Ich hatte Hackbraten mit Zwiebeln Bratkartoffeln und Salat. Der Hackbraten war aufgewärmt, also nicht frisch zubereitet. Die Bratkartoffeln waren aus frischen Pellkartoffeln die man nicht geschält hatte, zubereitet aber leider zu wenig gebraten. Der Salat machte optisch einen sehr guten Eindruck, leider wurde am Dressing gespart. Der 4er Tisch, an dem wir zu 4. saßen war sehr klein und man hatte ein beengtes ungemütliches Gefühl. Die Bedienungen obwohl in ausreichender Zahl vorhanden, machten einen bemühten aber überforderten Eindruck. Das Ambiente in der Gaststätte ist optisch ansprechend, nur kam es vor der Gastätte, an den tortigen Tischen, wegen einsetzendem Regen zur Panik und diese Gäste kamen fast alle in die Gaststätte, was nicht gerade zur Gemütlichkeit beigetragen hatte. Das der Bezahlvorgang dann ca. 30 Minuten in Anspruch genommen hatte, war das Ende eines Abends, den wir uns eigentlich ganz anders vorgestellt hatten.

Sehr laut im Gastraum, Gesellschften 12 Personen und kleine 4er Tische zusammen geht gar nicht. Essen ok
