Bei Ulla in Lübeck

A very charming, traditional pub in the heart of Lübeck.

Ulla is a cozy oasis of calm in the bustling old town. Highlights of German songwriting (Petry/Kaiser/Helene Dietrich) play discreetly in the background. The food is delicious, home-style cooking at reasonable prices. I can recommend a well-poured pilsner to accompany it.

I had a very delicious meal and drinks. The service was excellent. They make their fried potatoes from fresh potatoes here. I'll be back!

We stopped in spontaneously without a reservation to try the famous currywurst. We were seated at the counter, which was perfectly fine. The sausage has to be prepared this way; it's absolutely delicious. Add to that the very attentive service and the rustic atmosphere – a great change of pace!

Update October 23, 2025 The currywurst is still very tasty. We had it once with fries and once with potato salad. The salad is homemade and the fries were crispy. The cucumber salad is still delicious. What bothered us a lot was the completely smoky place. A light fume wafted through the place from the deep fryers, as if you were standing in a chip shop. Our first thought was... all of our clothes have to air out outside first... And the attentive service is missing. -------------------------------- I can only review a small portion of the menu. But even under the new ownership, it is and remains the best currywurst in town! With fries and cucumber salad - a delight 😋 Unfortunately, neither Köpi nor Bitburger are my favorite beers, but that's a matter of taste. If you're not afraid of very small tables and like a rustic atmosphere, Ulla is the place for you!

The shashlik and currywurst are unbeatable, and everything else is delicious too. The staff, especially the friendly waitress in the early afternoon, is simply fantastic. We were there for lunch again today after a long absence, and the food was very good, as always. The menu was being expanded, and the place was packed. Unfortunately, the friendly waitress is no longer there, which is a real shame.

If you like traditional German food, Ulla's is the place to be. A small menu with home-style dishes, served in a small space with a 70s feel. The friendly, attentive staff; we were consistently satisfied.

The fish fillet with fried potatoes is recommended. The price is also perfectly reasonable.

Ulla would turn in her grave! Damn it. What has happened to this place? Dirty tables, dirty toilets (the floor is sticky), used toothpicks in glasses. And the waiters/cooks speak very loudly in their language (whatever that was). I felt less like I was in a German restaurant and more like an Asian fast food joint! Never again! Very sad!

Very tasty plaice fillet with superb fried potatoes, which are perfectly cooked, not too dark, and above all, not greasy. The salad dressing is also very appealingly delicious. They even offer recommendations if you think you might have ordered too much. So, they're focused on the well-being of the guest, not on profit. The ambiance is exactly what I'd expect from an "Ulla" restaurant. Rustic with German Schlager music. Lovely!

A pure sensation! I'm a long-time customer and am continually fascinated by what this restaurant has to offer. I wholeheartedly recommend everyone to visit this restaurant. The food is simply a sensation in itself, and my taste buds are always delighted by the taste of the cuisine whenever I visit. Quality is paramount. You can tell immediately!

Despite the change of ownership, nothing has changed; the typical "Ulla" dishes are as good as ever. It's great that it's been preserved so traditionally! The staff are very attentive and friendly.

Ulla is apparently no longer there, but the (apparently) new owners are putting a lot of effort into it. The service is fast, friendly, and child-friendly. We had currywurst with fries, which was a classic, high-quality snack. The place is very quaintly decorated, like a corner pub from the golden age. Classic pop music plays in the background, which simply belongs there. We'll definitely be back!

Very delicious food! The schnitzels are hand-pounded and wonderfully tender, accompanied by crispy fried potatoes and delicious sauces – the one with chanterelle mushrooms was particularly good. We had a children's dish, a hunter's schnitzel, and a schnitzel with chanterelle sauce – all excellent. The music perfectly matches the rustic ambiance, and the staff was very friendly and efficient. Highly recommended!

Zum Glück ergatterte ich hier noch einen der begehrten Plätze. Bei Ulla scheint auch bei Lübeckern sehr beliebt zu sein. Freundliches Personal und leckere deutsche Küche zu angemessenen Preisen machen den Besuch hier sehr angenehm.

It's a shame! We were so looking forward to this traditional restaurant. Unfortunately, we were disappointed. The food wasn't good. We both had pork. One was plain with mushrooms, the other was breaded. Both were dry, and the filling kept getting thicker. The fries were okay. The fried potatoes were swimming in grease. The service was fine, and the beer was tasty. If the food had been good, the price-performance ratio would have been good.

We stopped in spontaneously; luckily there was a table available. The rustic ambiance still retains its cozy feel. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. The wait for food and drinks is reasonable. Of course, you have to order the unmistakably unique and incredibly delicious currywurst. It's simply iconic and unsurpassed in this place. But don't overlook the other dishes; they're also very tasty. The generous portions are served hot. The price-performance ratio is exceptionally good. If you haven't been here yet, you've missed out.

It has a nice atmosphere and very friendly staff. And the food isn't overpriced. I can say that the currywurst with fried potatoes is very tasty, and the accompanying golden-brown fried potatoes are also delicious.

I sat outside and didn't eat inside. The food was good and plentiful. The price was reasonable for what was offered. The server was prompt, and the food arrived at the table fairly quickly.

"Bei Ulla" initially appears to be a pub with food options. The server was very attentive and friendly. Drinks were served very quickly. The food (fried fish, fried potatoes) also arrived very quickly. The fried potatoes were tasty, but also quite greasy. The fried fish was coated in a thick, greasy breading.

Vänlig och trevlig personal, känns mysigt och geniunt. Maten var mycket prisvärd, billigare än på många andra ställe . Personalen kunde rekommendera passande öl. De kunde engelska efter att min tyska inte funkade. Känns som ett ställe inhemska går dit med sin familj och äter.

If you want good, affordable fish, you have to come here. It's super tasty and reasonably priced. A quaint restaurant with friendly waiters.

Wir waren zum Abendessen bei Ulla. Klein aber mit Stil eingerichtet,freundliches Personal, Speisen zu fairen Preisen und erst noch lecker gekocht. Schön,dass man so was Tolles in einer Stadt noch findet. Macht weiter so!

I happened to pass by today. I'd never been inside, but my neighbor often talked about Ulla. So I went in and was absolutely thrilled. The service was very friendly; I found it small and cozy inside. My dish was served differently than I prepare it at home. I chose the farmer's breakfast and didn't regret it. It was delicious. I know I'll be back and can only recommend it.

Very good place to eat in Lubeck

The ambience was excellent, the food excellent and the staff very friendly. I'll come back on my next visit to Lübeck.

During our visit on April 19, 2025, we were very enthusiastic about the food, the ambience and the nice service. We had meatloaf with fried eggs and fried potatoes, which were absolutely perfect.

Super cozy little place that I and some friends were recommended by a couple of locals. They serve a very good currywurst at good prices too. The atmosphere was a bit strange as it tried to be both a romantic little inn but also a bar for young people. However, can only strongly recommend.

The restaurant is quaint and small. You can sit outside in the summer. It's been a cult favorite for decades. I love the currywurst. We ordered food from there online today and had it delivered at a specific time. It arrived on time and piping hot. Super delicious!

I just barely recommend the place

That was a nice visit for our team from Billich Services in and around Schwerin in Ulla's restaurant. The food was delicious (the portions were very generous, there was hardly any room for dessert 😊 ) and the atmosphere was cozy. The service is good, I think that's fundamentally important. We will come here again, it's really good.

We've been to Ulla's for a while now, the food was really tasty, Farid served us very friendly and attentively without being intrusive, the renovation wasn't that good, the old upholstery had a better flair, the pear in the Lamps blind your eyes

After 30 years of abstinence from Lübeck, this was the first place to stop. Even though the old landlady is no longer with us, the restaurant has remained the same as it used to be. Currywurst with fries is still top notch and always recommended. The new landlady is also really nice. So I absolutely recommend it.

Legendary! Delicious currywurst and Altbier punch in a charming atmosphere

Here you get well-poured beer and it's quite cozy. They have crystal beer which we unfortunately don't have in Denmark. Didn't get any food so I can't rate that. Recommended.

If you can get a seat there, you can probably eat the best currywurst and fries in Lübeck. You can hear the schnitzels being mashed by hand from the kitchen. 100% old school, 100% my thing 🤘

We had reserved a table so that we could chat, among other things. Unfortunately we were sitting right in the middle of the action. The prices had been increased and our clothes smelled of frying grease, from jackets to T-shirts. Was never the case before.

Yesterday, I was here for the first time with six people, and I can only say it was fantastic. Great atmosphere, incredibly delicious food, and super friendly and funny service. We had herring with fried potatoes, schnitzel with a fried egg and fried potatoes, currywurst, fries, and kale. Everything was delicious, and the value for money is hard to beat. We'll definitely be back.

During a visit to Lübeck, we stopped at this small and fine restaurant. We reserved a table in advance, otherwise, with four people, you'd have little chance of getting a table. We were here for a kale dinner. The food was delicious and plentiful. The service was impeccable. We really enjoyed it.

We went there twice while in Lubeck. The Schnitzel was fantastic, both the pork and the turkey. Service was great the first night because the server was happy to speak English to us. The second night the server said “no English” and didn’t seem to want to deal with us. Great food, but you better know some German.

Wir waren während unseres Lübeck-Besuchs 2x bei Ulla. Beide Male bekamen wir ohne Reservierung `nen angenehmen Platz und waren mit dem bestellten Essen und den Getränken vollauf zufrieden. Die Bedienung war sehr aufmerksam und freundlich :-)

A nice pub with a small kitchen that serves everything you can fry or fry. Prices are moderate. The schnitzel is homemade and the cucumber salad was also very good. All in all it was good.

It's a shame when the "original" curry sausage runs out on Friday and you get a replacement sausage. Unfortunately I didn't like it...and the reservation didn't work out.

Very bad, I had reserved a table for 8 people by email. This was also confirmed to me by email. The team at the restaurant claimed there was no reservation. I had the confirmation on my cell phone and showed it and then they said there was a mistake in the organization and there wasn't a table for us either. I will never make a reservation there again nor will I ever enter the restaurant again.

Fuimos aquí dos noches seguidas. Encontramos el restaurante en línea y decidimos comprobarlo después de ver las críticas y porque tenía un precio razonable. En nuestra primera visita, el hijo de los propietarios era nuestro camarero. Hablaba muy bien inglés y era extremadamente servicial y amable. Nuestro schnitzel vienés era delicioso. El mío vino con patatas fritas con tocino y cebolla, y una ensalada de pepino agridulce. Todo estaba delicioso y el precio era muy razonable. El camarero dijo que el schnitzel de pavo también estaba bueno, así que decidimos ir también de nuevo al día siguiente. Y el schnitzel de pavo estaba muy bueno. La única desventaja era un camarero diferente que no hablaba inglés y nos dio la clara impresión de que ni siquiera quería servirnos si no hablábamos alemán. Afortunadamente mi esposa sabe lo suficiente para dejarnos pasar. Si no fuera por la calidad de la comida, probablemente este sería un restaurante de 1 - 2 estrellas.
