Bei Helena in Bad Sachsa

We wanted to have a delicious meal on vacation. You can do that here. The food is very tasty, freshly prepared and fills you up. We had gyros, suflaki, suzuki, tzatziki, herb butter and garlic bread as a starter. It is a small restaurant with a family atmosphere. The service is great. Due to the limited number of tables, we recommend that you simply reserve by telephone in advance. Daily offers, e.g. starters or desserts, are explained and described on site. Everything is very warm and honest, so you just feel welcome. Price/performance ratio is good. We will definitely come back on our next vacation. See you soon :-)

Such a great end to a lovely day of vacation in Bad Sachsa. Warmly welcomed, the 3 grandchildren immediately equipped with extensive painting equipment, the evening developed as one would imagine. Everything was totally relaxed, great service, almost family-like. We felt very comfortable. For food: eaten everything! That says it all. We were guests on Saturday with 5 people. The quality of the food is fantastic and stands out. The waiter is also very nice. You immediately notice that it is a family-run restaurant. Every time we are in the Harz Mountains.

We had a quiet room, which was okay in size. Unfortunately the mattresses were very sagging and I could feel every single spring. The breakfast was manageable and unfortunately the bread wasn't always fresh. We had dinner once, which was okay. However, I found the price to be quite steep at €19 per person. The staff was consistently friendly. The hotel is quite old and the outdoor area is not very well maintained. There are only three parking spaces directly at the hotel, but there is a large parking lot diagonally opposite the hotel where you can park for a cheap €2 per day.

We were greeted very friendly with a handshake. The service, the ambience and the treatment of the guests was exemplary.

A great evening! The gentleman is super nice, we were immediately greeted with a friendly handshake. Unfortunately we didn't get a table outside at the beginning, he was very attentive and when a table became available outside, he came up to us and escorted us out 😍 . We can only recommend this lovely little restaurant with friendly service

We dined here for our wedding anniversary. The table was lovingly decorated with rose petals to suit the occasion. Chris, who handles the service, is very attentive but not intrusive. He is also available for a little fun or a conversation. So the atmosphere is very familiar. When ordering food, people were explicitly asked about intolerances and dislikes. Now about the food: it was very tasty. Regardless of whether it was garlic bread, a side salad or grilled dishes - we enjoyed everything very much. The Greek-style fried potatoes were a tasty side dish that offered a nice change from the standard Greek side dishes. All in all, it was a very successful and enjoyable evening. Truly the best Greek we've ever been to! Very friendly and loving service! Reservations in advance are absolutely necessary, but it's worth it. There are also very tasty vegetarian options. If we are in Bad Sachsa again, we will definitely come back.

Just really great! It has become a tradition for me when my children come to visit that we definitely stop there at some point. Not only is there the most brilliant team of mother and son, but also original Greek cuisine that is second to none. Oh, and the best gyros we've ever eaten❤️

The best Greek we've been to so far. The food is excellent and there are also spontaneous dishes that are not on the menu. The waiter is super friendly and can see immediately whether you would like anything else or whether he can help you. After the first visit, we made another reservation for the next day. Please make sure to reserve. Since it is a two-person operation, only a certain number of tables can be occupied. Regarding the negative reviews written here, I'm not sure whether they wrote the review for the right restaurant or whether they seriously expect that a smaller restaurant will always have room for you without making a reservation. Conclusion: The restaurant is 1000% recommended.

When we arrived on Friday evening just before opening time, there was no room for two people and we could no longer make a reservation for the next evening, but fortunately we could still make a reservation for Sunday evening. The high expectations have been met! The starter we recommended was especially delicious. The food and service are authentically Greek.

An absolutely wonderful experience! We received a warm welcome and the mother-son duo completely enchanted us. Reservations are necessary and allow you to have a wonderful time with Helena. The portion size could be adjusted for younger guests upon request. Due to its popularity, we unfortunately experienced a quite loud group at the neighboring table. Nevertheless, we would like to come back on our next vacation.

Unfortunately we were turned away because there was “no space”. Strangely, only one table was occupied. Two tables were not set at all. With a little flexibility, something could certainly have been done. It's a shame actually. Especially for holiday guests who would like to visit the local restaurants.

We visited Bad Sachsa again and of course we visited Helena again. Anyone who appreciates Greek specialties other than in Metaxa sauce and gratinated with cheese has come to the right place. This time we dared to experiment and let the best waiter we know decide what to eat today. All we can say is “It’s spot on” - dare to let the experts decide what you like 😋. Since the restaurant is rather small, you should reserve a table in advance.

A really nice little family-run restaurant. When you made your reservation over the phone, you were greeted warmly straight away. Also when ordering and later eating there was a super nice atmosphere and a very relaxed manner from the waiter. The food was really tasty. The portions are also optimal.

Today after 6 years we went back to this restaurant. The only thing which was changed was that our daughter Emma was 6 years older. The food and the hospitality was as good as 6 years ago. Yes you have to make a reservation and pay cash. But it’s worth it 100%.

We ate there twice in a row last week, which I think says it all. Absolute recommendation!!! The food is prepared super fresh and delicious by lovely Helena. The service from Chris is absolutely outstanding. You feel absolutely welcome from the first second and the child-friendliness is also outstanding. We've never had Greek food so good! We are already looking forward to our next vacation and will definitely eat here again!

We were there for the second evening in a row and were once again given a very warm welcome. You just have to feel good here...The food is prepared with a lot of love by Mama Helena and tastes great. Chris manages to make the evening unforgettable with his charm. The two evenings made our vacation perfect. For us it is the best Greek restaurant we have ever been to were. We (6 people) were warmly welcomed and the service was very good. The food was fresh and extremely tasty. Price/performance also good. We would have liked fish, but we would have had to order it in advance, but we could find very good alternatives. Be sure to reserve as the dining room is not large. But it's worth a visit and we'll be happy to come back -:)

Where do I start? A small restaurant where you feel comfortable from the first second. You will be warmly welcomed and looked after. Price performance is top. Everything is fresh, even shortly before the store closes you are informed about ingredients that may not be enough because freshness takes precedence over quantity. It is better to offer the customer alternatives instead of senselessly throwing away food. If you like Greek food you will love everything here. Good Helena still cooks herself and you can tell she's been doing it for a long time. I have never enjoyed such delicious Greek food. Due to the size of the restaurant, we recommend calling and making a reservation one evening in advance. We will definitely come back when we are in the area!!! Thank you for the great evening.

Reservations! The restaurant is very popular and not without reason: we were two adults with two children. We had just walked in the door and were greeted with a friendly “Welcome!” I'm Chris. Your table is already ready.” with painting supplies for the children and a high chair. Courteous, charming and always with a joke on his lips, he made the evening not only for us parents, but also for our children. De ontvangst was zeer hartelijk. Zelden een handdruk gekregen op restaurant bij het binnenkomen, gaf direct een toffe warme sfeer. Een ruime spijskaart werd ons voorgelegd. De gerechten en drank kwamen vlot aan aan tafel. De zoon was zeer hartelijk en had oog voor de correcte bediening. Eerst mevrouw, dan mijnheer ! De schotels waren meer dan voldoende want we konden niet alles opeten ! Als afsluiter nog een drankje van het huis gekregen en de afrekening wordt graag cash afgerekend. Een Hollands stel had zich hier niet op voorzien en mocht daags nadien alsnog komen afrekenen ! Van vertrouwen in uw klanten gesproken want zij waren geen reguliere klanten.

The dessert (yoghurt with honey and nuts) was also very good. I have to say the best Greek I've been to so far. If we are in Bad Sachsa again we will definitely come back!

We were there today with the whole family and received a very friendly and nice welcome. It is a very small and fine restaurant that makes you feel comfortable. The service is very friendly, fast and always open to a joke. The food comes quickly and is very, very tasty. The variety of the menu is also completely sufficient. Our children were treated very nicely and looked after with toys, their own cutlery and drinking straws for the kids. Overall, a nice atmosphere where you can have a nice day with your family or as a couple.

We were with you today with the family and we are really thrilled. We were warmly welcomed and escorted to the table. Painting utensils were already available for our youngest. The food is freshly prepared and very tasty, and we didn't miss the house's recommendation. The son runs the restaurant alone with his mother and it has 7 tables, so reservations are absolutely necessary. A visit is really recommended! The son also impresses with his charming and funny nature. We felt completely comfortable and will definitely come back!

Good morning. 😎 We were received very friendly by the son. I immediately liked him very much. Luckily we had reserved early for 5.30 p.m., otherwise it would be difficult to get a table there. When we got to our table, everything was beautifully set and there was a pad and pencils ready for our daughter to draw on. Yes, and now to eat. We ate in the restaurant last Friday evening as we were on a short vacation in Bad Sachsa. We were simply thrilled! Very friendly innkeeper, we chatted with him for a long time. The food tasted absolutely fresh and I honestly ate the best bifteki ever!! Everything is very authentic there and absolutely recommended!

It was so delicious! We were guests with children and received a very warm welcome. The food was great and we felt very comfortable. The host is great and if possible he would get 6 stars. We would come back to Bad Sachsa just for this restaurant.

As you can read in the other reviews, the food was very tasty. I think pretty much everything on the menu can be recommended without reservation. However, the prices are also correspondingly high. I found the drink prices to be negative. These are even higher than in RoLigio and that is really saying something. There is more than enough here.

The food is freshly prepared and you can taste it. Really tasty and authentic. Very warm and competent service. Hospitality is very important here. The price/performance ratio is great in terms of both the food and the drinks and is absolutely justified for the culinary experience that was offered to us. If we are in the area again, a visit to “Bei Helena” is essential. Thank you for the lovely evening. (P.S. Reservations would definitely be an advantage given the small size of the restaurant).

Super tasty food! Very large choice of dishes. Sympathetic welcome, pleasant and efficient service by Helena's son. She stands in the kitchen and prepares delicious dishes. A two-person business! A unique experience. Unfortunately it was our last evening in Bad Sachsa. After all, there is still so much on the menu to try next time.

De beste griekse keuken ever. Mama kookt zoals het hoort. Grieks met een grote G. Vooraf kaas uit de oven en brood met kruidenboter uit de oven. Mix grill als hoofd gerecht. Gyros, souvlaki en souzouki... tsatsiki en salade. Alles smaakt als in Griekenland. Kom en geniet. Zorg wel dat je van tevoren reserveert anders is er geen plaats.

Very tasty, very warm!! Simply great… and in the small town of Bad Sachsa. We were really very excited. However, you should reserve in advance because the restaurant is very small. The son and his mother run the restaurant, so it becomes difficult for the two of them to be able to serve unannounced guests/groups. All in all, super warm and really tasty!!!

Simply a great shop, short trip to Greece (only the weather wasn't so suitable). After ~ 10 years we were finally able to enjoy the incredibly nice & fast service as well as Helena's great food again! How these reviews regarding alleged child unfriendliness come about is a mystery to me, there were 3 children at our table alone and at all the other tables there were also children between the ages of 2 and 13, who were all served incredibly nicely and friendly. You just can't do it without a reservation or you're really lucky. We'll be back 👍

We tried for several days to reach someone by phone to reserve a table without success. Then, luckily, we spontaneously stopped on site and personally reserved a table for the next day. The restaurant has 7 tables spread over 2 rooms and there is an intimate, warm atmosphere. We were welcomed with a table that was perfectly prepared for us. Children's cutlery and painting utensils were available. We were welcomed like friends and immediately felt at home. The drinks came quickly. The menu is quite extensive and offers all the Greek specialties that you would expect when visiting a restaurant like this. When we ordered we were asked about any intolerances/dislikes, which was very pleasant. Our kids were also spoken to and treated very nicely. What followed were dishes that were all simply wonderful, there is no other way to describe it. The best we have eaten in a Greek restaurant in a long time. Whether it was garlic bread, tzatziki, baked feta, gyros, lamb fillet, souzuki, souvlaki or the fries, everything was on point and freshly prepared. At the end, the kids received a free portion of yoghurt with honey, nuts and fruit. Everything accompanied by kind words and gestures. Price-performance is more than reasonable. Only cash can be paid. After dinner we had a chat with the owner's son, who runs the front of the shop on his own and also supports his mother in the kitchen with the preparation. According to their own information, the store has over 80% regular customers, we like to believe that. A real insider tip... If you want to eat well and comfortably in Bad Sachsa, you've come to the right place. Each table is only given away once in the evening, so it's important to reserve well in advance. A wonderful little family-run restaurant. Everything was freshly cooked and incredibly tasty. The garlic bread was the icing on the cake. The waiter is very approachable, attentive and without being intrusive. Our children were very welcome and were warmly pampered. There were 10 of us there (as a large group, be sure to reserve in advance) and we perfectly rounded off our holiday on our last evening in Bad Sachsa with our visit to “Bei Helena”. It was really great!

Wir waren im Januar in Bad Sachsa in den Ferien. Das Wetter war grauenhaft, niemand ging raus, aber bei Helena war´s so voll, dass Gäste ohne Reservierung keine Chance hatten. Kein Wunder: eine wunderbare "Griechin", Helena ist eine geniale Köchin, dazu ein unglaublich zugewandter und kinderfreundlicher Service und absolut frische Waren. Waren mehrmals da und können eigentlich die gesamte Karte empfehlen, aber die Lammgerichte toppen alles - insbesondere die Lammhaxe mit weißen Bohnen und der Vorspeisenteller waren genial. Wir wären glücklich, wenn wir etwas annähernd Vergleichbares in Hannover hätten. Müssen wir also wieder nach Bad Sachsa zu Helena kommen; die Anreise ist es wert. Und das kommt von einem Esser, der normalen griechischen Restaurants grundsätzlich eher bis sehr skeptisch gegenüber steht. Bleibt nur ein Tipp: vorher anrufen und reservieren, dann wird es ein gelungener Abend bei Helena.
