We visited the Bavaria Alm in Torfhaus and had a mixed overall impression. The food tasted okay, but lacked a certain kick – a bit more seasoning or refinement would have benefited from the dishes. The children's portions, which are generous, deserve special mention. However, the rice pudding was far too sweet, which even our children complained about. The service, unfortunately, left a lot to be desired. Communication was rather reserved, and when our food was served incorrectly several times, there wasn't even an apology. At least the correct food was brought, but a little more friendliness would have made the situation much more pleasant. Overall, a solid location, but there's room for improvement – ​​both in terms of taste and service.

The Bavaria Alm impresses primarily with its friendly and helpful staff. Nobody will be turned away here, even if you spontaneously want to stop here in a slightly larger group of 8 people without a reservation after a long day of hiking. The atmosphere is rustic and the price-performance ratio is good.

Delicious food, good beer and wine at normal prices! The atmosphere is unique here in the region! There's no chance on weekends on public holidays without a reservation, as a couple you're often lucky enough to get a small table! Always my pleasure!

The ambience is quite nice, cleanliness is OK. The previous person cleaned the table immediately and brought a new tablecloth. The staff is mostly friendly, but unfortunately no questions are asked during the meal as to whether everything is OK. However, questions were asked at the neighboring tables. Food is served quickly. Very good selection of drinks, something for everyone. Food selection is large. What I have to complain about is that the vegetables are unfortunately not fresh. Salad was probably prepared long in advance, rocket was wilted, iceberg lettuce was reddish in color, spring onions were dried out, baked potato was very gray and tasted a bit musty. This definitely needs to be checked more closely before it is released. Unfortunately my dessert wasn't good (ice cream with Kaiserschmarrn). The worst Kaiserschmarrn I've ever eaten, it wasn't fluffy at all, sometimes you had to really bite into the dry parts, cream wasn't homemade (spray cream). Very disappointing for the price. The portions are enough to fill you up. We ate there twice and wouldn't go back a third time.

It's a shame, I've rarely had such a bad meal. Apple spritzer without fizz, sauerkraut from a can, mashed potatoes without taste (I had ordered fried potatoes), dry fried pork, food cold, waited 1 hour and 30 minutes for the food.

Food came way too late and way too expensive. Food doesn't taste good. Fries way too small. Employees way too confused. Rababar spritzer not drinkable.

Main courses were very tasty, medium sized portion (roast pork and bacon and onion dumplings). But Kaiserschmarrn really isn't recommended, it's worse, I haven't tried it yet, as if it was already finished, cold and then warmed up a little in the microwave. Service was very good, waiting time was moderate, despite everything being full. Ambience very nice

We were there with a group of 10 people. The selection is large, but only for meat eaters. Vegetarians will find a choice of 3/4 dishes. Things are looking rather bad for vegans. On the one hand, you can't expect this from a pub, but on the other hand, you can perhaps keep up with the changing times so that everyone can find something. :) Unfortunately, the food came to the table very lukewarm and since this is not uncommon according to the reviews, I wonder why nothing has been changed. Especially given the prices, which are certainly not cheap. In my opinion, the price-performance ratio is not right for some dishes. The pretzel pizza is very tasty and true, but when it comes to the meat, it can be argued. The beef goulash for just under €21 with spaetzle and salad, which is excellent as a main course, was very small (see picture) and then lukewarm. The knuckle, on the other hand, is more than big for €23. The cheese spaetzle for €15.50, on the other hand, is again expensive but again a very small portion. But every dish we ate was delicious. Ultimately, everyone has to decide for themselves what it's worth to them, but in my opinion, at prices of €20 you should expect to be full. Unfortunately, we also lost two things that only came when we had finished eating. This could have been avoided by stopping by the table regularly, as I don't think a portion of fries needs 30 minutes. The service staff was still very nice and the atmosphere after tobogganing was very appropriate.

A rustic oasis loved by many, so reserve it as early as possible and enjoy the surroundings

For the second time today we are at Torfhaus in the Bavaria Alm for brunch. The atmosphere is cozy, stylish, Bavarian, a lavish selection of delicacies. In addition to fresh fruit, there is a machine that produces small pancakes. We enjoyed salmon, baby mozzarella and scrambled eggs as well as typical Bavarian dishes such as white sausage, pretzels and Obazda. The imaginative furnishings with fireplace, typical Bavarian furniture including cowbell lamps are great and invite you to linger. We haven't tried the lunch menu yet, but the menu is already making our mouths water. Everything is simply delicious here. Bavaria Alm is cult!

Was there with 12 people after hiking. I can only recommend making a reservation because even if you have a reservation you have to wait a bit outside because it is so full. The service was good, nothing was mixed up, they were very nice, etc. Drinking and eating was also very good. I personally ordered ribs but can highly recommend the salads. The Kaiserschmarrn is ok but I've definitely eaten better.

Absolutely not recommended…. Ate with 8 people and only 2 of us were full. The extremely small portion of goulash was mentioned to the staff but there was no response. After we were supposed to leave at 9 p.m. on a Thursday because it wasn't worth leaving it open for a "couple" of guests, the next shock came of 7.50 euros in the form of parking fees. Definitely never again for us.

The food (brunch on Sunday) was okay but unfortunately not more for the price. Scrambled eggs were runny, bacon was absolutely not crispy. It's a shame there wasn't any lactose-free milk.

Our visit today (with a reservation and the request for a quiet table with a children's chair) was unfortunately very disappointing. Reservation requests were not taken into account at all. Waited over 1 hour for food with small hungry children. 3 out of 5 dishes were only lukewarm and had to be remade. Took another 30 minutes, so we ate separately. Unfortunately, the food was “not good”. Knuckle somehow somewhere between dry and rubbery. Kale had an odd texture and taste. The service person apologized several times and wanted to waive part of the bill. That didn't work either and led to further discussions. It was my birthday and I wanted to end it comfortably with my family. This restaurant has done everything to prevent that. It's a shame about the money, it's a shame about the valuable time. I won't get any of it back! Warm words don't help as an apology for this review, as I read in all the bad reviews here. These only serve for harmonization true to the motto “I have the last word”. Addendum: The restaurant commented on my review and asked me to contact me via email to find a solution. I contacted you. But the restaurant didn't respond to that. The restaurant apparently only wanted to round off a bad review with a positive comment. The negative experience remains!

01/23 took another lunch break at the Bavaria Alm Torfhaus. Friendly welcome and a cozy place by the fireplace. We shared a snack board for two. Enough for us for a small meal. Super tasty selection. Service, price and performance are simply great. Always worth a break.

Delicious food and great ambience

Visited again for a long time, luckily for us on Friday lunchtime, so there were still places vacant. However (according to the assignment) eating on a plate in an armchair “takes getting used to.” The service was tried hard, e.g. T. but understaffed and therefore overwhelmed. The food was average, estimated - by type of duration and presentation - system cuisine, what not must be bad. According to these statements, the prices are, in our opinion, “high”. (1-25)

We had reserved and therefore didn't have to join the long queue of people waiting. The service was very friendly, the selection was good and the atmosphere was great. But; Hearty prices, which is okay if the food was good. But the taste of the food was just okay. Burger patties were frozen, as were some other things. There is a lot of catching up to do here. Therefore three stars.

We got a seat straight away, even without a reservation, and the service was quick and friendly. Unfortunately, the vegan selection on the menu is very, very clear. With such a diverse menu, at least 1 vegan main course would be desirable and absolutely feasible! So I stuck with a side salad and fries...

The food is tasty, the prices are acceptable for the location of the restaurant but the service is too bad, too much waiting to receive the order. We ordered an ice cream! Only 1 ice cream and it took more than 30 minutes.

We had the pleasure of visiting the Bacaria Alm Restaurant in Torfhaus on a sunny day and it was an all around wonderful experience! The location is unbeatable: with a fantastic view of the Brocken, we were able to enjoy our meal to the fullest. I chose the Wiener Schnitzel and it was fantastic! The meat was tender and perfectly breaded, and the fries that came with it were crispy, hot and simply delicious - exactly as they should be. The portions were generous and we were really impressed by the quality of the food. We also really liked the ambience of the restaurant - a cozy, alpine atmosphere that fits perfectly into the surroundings. The service was fine. We will definitely be back and can only recommend the Bacaria Alm Restaurant to anyone who appreciates good food and breathtaking views. Thank you

Asked to just get drinks quickly, even offered to drink them outside. But apparently there was no capacity for that. The waitress said that the half-empty shop should be absolutely “full” in 15 minutes. Then we went next door to the Vienna Woods, the service there was super nice and it wasn't a problem, even though it looked a lot more crowded there. No more!

Ambience is good, it is a bit loud. More of a canteen flair in “Bergisch”. The food is okay, nothing more. What doesn't work at all are the worn glasses, some of them aren't even really clear anymore and one of them was even dirty on the edge. The apple spritzer tasted stale. Sorry, I expected better. The service people did a good job.

The broccoli cheese dumpling is unfortunately a disappointment :-( The cappuccino was also too strong. But nice service & nice ambience

We stopped here after our hike on a Sunday and had to wait about 45 minutes until we got a table. The selection is okay, even though there were hardly any vegetarian options, but the prices are really reasonable. The service wasn't exactly friendly, but the atmosphere with the fireplace is of course not bad.

We were there today. Very friendly staff, fast service, short waiting times, food was also delicious, but unfortunately the drinks and food were only "warm" and not really hot. My hot chocolate and latte macchiato were lukewarm and our food was also only "lukewarm". After 3 hours of tobogganing, one of the things you want is hot drinks. It's a shame, but otherwise the taste is great! The Kaiserschmarrn was very crispy and dark brown, which could have been fluffier.

Very nice restaurant in the Harz and only a few kilometers from Bad Harzburg. Service was polite, hospitable and quick. The food was delicious and filling well. Prices are reasonable for the location, quality of food and experience. I can only recommend it.

Am 30.12. haben wir im Restaurant angerufen, um eine Reservierung für den 31.12. vorzunehmen und dort essen zu gehen. Uns wurde gesagt, dass es für den 31.12.2024 nicht möglich sei, telefonisch zu reservieren. Stattdessen wurde uns vorgeschlagen, am 31.12. persönlich vorbeizukommen und zu warten. Am 31.12. sind wir also ins Restaurant gegangen. Wir verstehen, dass es ein schwieriger und geschäftiger Tag war, da es Silvester war. Doch bereits beim Betreten des Restaurants wurden wir von der Rezeptionistin völlig ignoriert. Sie sagte, sie würde sich „gleich“ um uns kümmern. Nach Minuten sprachen wir sie an und erklärten, dass wir zum Essen gekommen seien und uns am Telefon gesagt worden war, direkt vorbeizukommen. Ihre Reaktion war äußerst unhöflich. Sie forderte uns auf, nach Hause zu gehen, und erklärte, dass es an diesem Tag unmöglich sei, einen Tisch zu bekommen. Ihre Art und Weise, wie sie reagierte, war unangemessen und schockierte meine Kinder. Ich möchte hiermit zum Ausdruck bringen, wie enttäuschend es ist, dass in Ihrem Restaurant Mitarbeiter beschäftigt sind, die Ihre Kunden auf diese Weise behandeln. Es gibt sicherlich angemessenere Möglichkeiten, solche Situationen zu kommunizieren. Luisa

The food was very fresh and totally delicious. The service was nice and courteous. We are very excited and will definitely come back.

I wanted to go out to eat with my family and we had specially reserved a table. Were there ahead of time too. Just punctuality. After a long wait in the front area, we went in to see if anyone had seen us outside. We were pretty much thrown out. We actually just wanted to ask if they had seen us and other guests. So we continued to wait outside. Meanwhile at -3°C we were all getting pretty cold and the children also wanted to go somewhere warm. After 20 minutes, no one came to get us or other guests in. Then it snowed more. The funny thing is that more and more guests came out and we really thought, "Cool, then we can go in straight away." Pustekuchen.... the waitress also asked several times and said she didn't know when our table would be ready. PLEASE WHAT???? Reservations are requested on the website so that a table can be guaranteed. 30 minutes after making the reservation there is still no table ready? Why didn't you contact us? Hospitality, friendliness etc. It's really something different and I'm really disappointed. After 50 minutes, after making the reservation, we left. So we waited for an hour in vain... Of course we were also allowed to pay the parking fees... I wouldn't have been so disappointed if they had just contacted us by phone... that would have saved time and, above all, fuel.

After waiting for 20 minutes, the waitress told us that she didn't have a large table for our group (7 adults, 2 children), which was absolutely fine. After we replied that we would also be happy with two smaller tables, she then let a group of four who were waiting behind us come forward without further explanation. Underground service

We were there for brunch. Unfortunately the service was very snippy and unfriendly, you didn't really feel welcome. Coffee and drinks are not included in the price, which is perfectly fine in itself. However, not once were we asked if we would like something to drink, we had to look for a waitress every time and were always sent back to our table quite listlessly with the words "Yes, someone is coming". But almost €4 for a cup of filter coffee is a bit bold. The tables are hardly or not cleaned at all. The table next to us changed guests twice, only the dishes were taken down and the crumbs were swept onto the floor by hand, not even the seat cushions that were thrown into the corner of the bench by the previous guests were put down properly . The quality of the buffet has also declined significantly. With many products you could tell that they just came “out of the bucket”, the fruit had hard spots and was already brown. For €15 you still get a very good selection, most of which taste very good. Unfortunately, the service spoils it a bit.

Today we went to the great Bavaria Alm with friends again! The food was delicious, the service was very attentive and friendly and the ambience was simply amazing! Special requests were also taken into account. Personally, I prefer oat milk with my coffee, which is what I got too❤️The Bavaria Alm is always worth a great trip, to enjoy and linger... Definitely recommended 👌💯

We've never experienced anything like this before. We had reserved a table for 4 p.m. We got there on time and waited patiently in line outside: "Please wait here, they are being seated." After 10 minutes of nothing happening and the queue being divided into "reserved" and "unreserved", we asked what it looked like. Answer: It's still taking a while, please wait outside. So we waited further out. After another 15 minutes we asked again when we could at least be allowed in because the children were really cold after almost half an hour of snowfall and many guests came out again in the meantime. Answer: The table is not yet free and still needs to be set. When asked how long it would last, no answer could be given because no one knew how long the guests would stay at the table. There was no answer to the question as to whether it was even worth waiting. And when asked whether it was possible to stay warm with the freezing children (by eye only 50 percent of the lower seats were occupied), there was only the curt answer: "We can't let them in. We'll get them then" and the door was thrown away again. After another 10 minutes of nothing happening, we left. I mean, there can always be delays. Even if there is a staff shortage, as is almost inevitable these days, you can react differently. If necessary, it would always be better to cancel the reservation (we know your cell phone number and email) than to have people (and we were far from the only ones) waiting outside in the cold with a view of the blazing fireplace. And of course the parking fees still had to be paid.

There is a fireplace in the middle and the alpine pasture is furnished like a typical ski hut. We were there promptly at 12 p.m. without a reservation and got a seat straight away and didn't wait 20 minutes for our food. So when we left an hour later, there was a queue in front of the Alm, I recommend making a reservation here.

Great food and a great ambience.

We were disappointed! We waited about 1 hour for our food (we were there after the big lunch rush) and then 2 out of 3 meals were cold. The spaetzle was tasteless, cold and watery, the fried potatoes were greasy and the "pizza" was dry. The whole thing is topped off by €7 parking fees. Too bad!

Very full, eight people were dining. Thank God we had pre-ordered and when we arrived there was a long line of hungry visitors. Very tasty, service very friendly and quick. Cool view.

It's a real shame that I didn't have the opportunity to get something from the buffet to take away, even though I would have been willing to pay extra for it. I realize this may not be common practice, but a polite note or an alternative offer would have made the situation much more pleasant. Instead, not only was I rejected, but this was done in an extremely arrogant and unfriendly manner, which left me very disappointed. I would have liked to have been treated more respectfully and with more understanding for my request. Too bad!
