Bavaria Alm Torfhaus in Harz (Landkreis Goslar)

The food is delicious, the selection is very varied and the price is right. Very friendly staff. When visibility is good, you can see the Brocken.

Waited 90 minutes for the food and it ended up being lukewarm.

Unfortunately, parking costs are too high...and the opening times could be adjusted if the weather conditions are good

I had the Alm-Schnitzel and then had Kaiserschmarrn and I was extremely satisfied. The service was also fantastic and super friendly. I can only recommend the restaurant!

On Wednesday morning we went to the great tower. After we paid €3 for parking there for an hour, we thought we would move to the Bavaria parking lot. We had lunch there. We both had it and decided on a beef roulade because we love this dish. Instead of dumplings we chose fried potatoes. Unfortunately, these were totally greasy, mushy and, thanks to the burnt, black onions, not a hit. The red cabbage was okay, although not a particularly tasty side dish. We were both extremely disappointed with the roulade. It tasted sour. Really a shame. Last but not least, it was explained to us. Of course, anyone who parks here also pays. We asked for a discount.

Service was very friendly. The food, however, was inedible. We had the Tyrolean Gröstel. The meat was completely burnt and the fried potatoes were already at the limit. Only the fried egg and the pickles were edible.

Very nice atmosphere in winter with a fireplace. The service is well organized and friendly and I didn't have to wait long for my food. Prices are reasonable. I can recommend the roulade because I'm not much of a burger eater. I've also had coffee there. You should definitely reserve in advance!

Very tasty food (goat cheese salad, chicken slices with fresh (!) potato rosti) at a very good price-performance ratio. It wasn't our first time here and we'd love to come back.

Always worth a short trip, the journey from Nordhausen alone is impressive, even if the forest doesn't look so beautiful in parts! The food and the ambience in the inn are really good and when you sit right by the big fireplace, all is right with the world...😃👍🍗🍰

The schnitzel with mushroom cream sauce was not good at all. The sauce was only lukewarm on the plate and was probably a mass product from the 10 liter bucket. The 4 strips of meat looked like they had been counted out. The two Rösti's were hot and tasty, the small side salad was ok. The service wasn't rude but a smile would be nice.

Stopped in for Sunday brunch with a larger group. Huge selection, everything from cold to warm. Very good value for money, drinks are extra. Ambience very cozy, view of the Brocken very nice on a clear day. Happy to come back!

An interesting meeting place, breakfast and drinks excellent.

A bit of a long wait at the entrance, but with friendly staff. Inside, the service was slightly overwhelmed, but always tried hard. Food doesn't taste great considering the price, but it's still good. The view and the tourism explain the slightly more expensive price.

Unfortunately, it's a shame - the atmosphere is (as always: if you like it) very homely, the food is delicious. The only thing that ruined it was the downright unpleasant service - we were given a flippant “welcome” and seated only reluctantly. It would be advisable for the hosts to replace the greeting at the door as quickly as possible; we would have felt much more welcome (and comfortable) without it.

Disappointing - burger at snack bar level The atmosphere in the Bavaria Alm in Torfhaus is really nice, but that's about it. We had two burgers and I have never had such bad burger patties in a restaurant. It was compressed frozen food, more reminiscent of snack bars. Even at McDonald's you get better quality. What was particularly disappointing was that the patty in the photo on the menu looked completely different than what was ultimately served. The photo speaks for itself - unfortunately a big difference from reality. Absolutely not recommended if you are looking for a good burger.

Whenever we are in the Harz, the Bavaria Alm is one of our first port of call. The food here has always been good and the staff friendly. What is always recommended here is the brunch. However, I think that the price-performance ratio is slowly starting to tip over when it comes to brunch. Among other things, because my wife was only able to use the buffet to a very, very limited extent due to her soy allergy. Despite all of this, we would like to stop here more often on our vacation, but with the high parking fees we really had to think about it this year...

We actually wanted to explore the Harz Tower with a height of 65m in Torfhaus today...Unfortunately very strong wind & rain...We quickly chose the Bavaria Alm restaurant right next to the Harz Tower as a bridge until the weather got a little better... Rustic and very cozy, inn furnished on two levels...A lot of wood was used and a fireplace in the middle of the large room ensures a rustic coziness...The menu leaves nothing to be desired...Dishes are very tasty and plentiful.. .The service was very friendly...A real highlight, not only in bad weather...We are already looking forward to the next visit... ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Waited 2 hours for food.!Even though it was full. Everyone else who sat down after us got their food. After discussion, we became cheeky. Drinks were very expensive, but we paid. We left without food. Too bad! September 2024.

Not mine, totally overcrowded, uncomfortable, breakfast at McDonald's is a bit more comfortable, which is actually not my thing....😕

Even though it was really busy, the service was always friendly and I received great service. I was able to charge my e-bike battery on the terrace. That wasn't a problem. The food also tasted good. I'd love to come back.

Very disappointing, my last visit to the Bavaria Alm! You come from outside cold and wet and have to wait like a dog in front of the door 😅 The staff is becoming increasingly unfriendly, but the ambience and the food are good. Very unfortunate...

Unfortunately not recommended. A real chain restaurant. The staff is less friendly and the food is of poor quality, not at all appealing or tasty. Absolutely not fair value for money. Little choice for vegetarians and vegans.

Food very tasty, service great. We came by on a Saturday at lunchtime without a reservation and got a table straight away. In the summer, sitting outside is definitely great with the view. Only recommended. Went there with three adults and one child. We'd love to come back.

Typical alpine hut in XL with space inside and outside. The operation works well, which is also necessary given the size. Kaiserschmarrn, without semolina, and cake tasted good, good portions. Good for families and small groups. There are enough paid parking spaces in front of the house, especially for motorcycles. A good starting point as an introduction to the Brocken. Food and water for the sometimes strenuous walk up the Brocken. A hotel offers rooms and Globetrotter offers its program (boots, clothing, backpack, sleeping bags, accessories) on two floors for missing hiking equipment. Tourist information helpful with a small exhibition.

All in all, unfortunately disappointing. Food tasted like ready-made food and was only lukewarm. Given the prices, I expected much more. Unfortunately everyone at the table felt the same way with a wide variety of dishes.

Even if it's not exactly the typical Bavarian food, the spare ribs and especially the fries were really great. All the other eaters were also satisfied. We called at short notice to make a reservation and it worked well. I'm sure it was lucky since it was during the week. With the lovely atmosphere and the really good food, it's sure to be well attended. Prices may not be a bargain, but fair in my opinion. The only downer perhaps is that there is a charge for parking in front of the restaurant. But others have decided and somehow I understand that the fees are not taken into account. Would be a bottomless pit. Unfortunately we were there as part of our vacation, otherwise we would definitely be there more often. Too far away from home.

As the name suggests, a real German cozy atmosphere. Nice view with a terrace. Delicious food, heavy dishes with generous portions.

What happened to the beautiful Harz? No more green at the torfhaus. Sad 😢. If they continue like this, tourism will stay away.

A very good restaurant. I recommend making reservations in advance. We've already been there without one and didn't get a place. We have been booking online in advance since then. The atmosphere is authentic and you feel like you are in Bavaria. The food has always been great. Whether schnitzel or knuckle, liver cheese or cheese spaetzle, everything is a culinary delight. Despite the large hall, it was easy to talk to each other and not feel disturbed. The fireplace in the middle is very beautiful. The service is always attentive and courteous.

Sehr schön eingerichtetes Restaurant mit sehr freundlicher Bedienung. Die bayerische Speisekarte ist der Hammer... man weiß nicht was man essen soll. So viele tolle Gerichte. Mein Backhändl scharf war sehr gut, die Bratkartoffeln der Hammer.

Ich hatte eine Scheibe Kammfleisch erwartet, was ich bekam war eine Gusseiserne Pfanne mit irgendwelchen klein Geschredderten Fleisch was aussah wie vom Knochen gekratzt, und Trocken wie ein alter Strumpf, dazu gab es Bratkartoffeln und 4 Gurken , der Kaffee war genauso Schlecht aus der Kaffeebombe so hat er Geschmeckt . Ich bin Beruflich viel unterwegs, aber solch eine Zusammenstellung hab ich ganz Deutschland noch nicht Serviert bekommen.

An impressive looking Bavaria themed restaurant. Upon entering, there was no one to greet us and no signs were obvious so we found a table. I placed my motorcycle helmet on the table and removed my jacket etc. A waitress appeared and abruptly told me “no helmets on the table, only on the benches” even the chap at the next table raised his hands in dismay at the way she spoke. Service ok but a bit slow and when you are finished and have somewhere to go, you just want to pay your bill and go. I asked the same waitress if I could pay the bill “ you will have to wait for my colleague” was the curt response. Maybe she doesn’t like us English or motorcyclists or both. I should add, it wasn’t particularly busy so I would be more forgiving if it was high season and busy. Food was good and we would use this place again although not go out of our way to revisit. They did have English menus ✅

Wir waren am Samstag in diesem Restaurant. Das Essen ist kalt. Und es war überhaupt nicht lecker. Die Kartoffeln waren alt. Der Burger ist der ungenießbarste Burger der Welt! Sogar McDonald's ist besser. Wir haben nichts gegessen und sind verhungert! Und es war nicht billig. Ich empfehle es nicht!

The ambience, the service and my coffee and cake were very good. The whole setup is very comfortable, and the waitresses are also appropriately dressed. What has completely destroyed this rustic alpine atmosphere is this American Trallala, Western and cuddly music. It didn't fit in any more than Bavarian brass music fits in a typical American diner.

Great restaurant in a great location, pure alpine feeling. The service was very friendly and quick, the food was great as always. We ate cheese spaetzle that tasted like we were on holiday in the mountains.

“Homemade” fried potatoes from the deep fryer. It doesn't work at all! Location is charming but cushions on the seats would be a plus. Unfortunately, you end up sitting on the hard wooden chairs.

I have known the Bavaria Alm almost since the beginning and have always been enthusiastic about the chic restaurant with Bavarian flair. However, for several years now, the quality of the food has unfortunately left something to be desired... My salad today looked like it came from a plastic bag from a penny and the salmon wasn't a highlight either. In addition, you pay extra for every little thing and far too much - if you even get it?! The bread with the salad only came when we asked, the extra butter was charged at a high price, but we never received it (unfortunately we didn't notice that until too late, otherwise we would have pointed it out straight away). The oat milk for the cappuccino was €1.20 extra cost, which is absolute extortion given the disappointment in taste. I think the development of the Bavaria Alm is a shame because I'm a guest who likes to pay for quality, but maybe I'm just no longer the desired target group for this restaurant. Lastly, two positive points: the staff was extremely friendly today and the toilets are very clean.

We were on vacation at the Torfhaus and ate there three times with four adults. We always ate different dishes and were thrilled every time. The service was quick, friendly and attentive, but not intrusive. I heard a music track in the background and asked if it was radio and it was a playlist, because I wanted to know what the song was called so much, the waitress copied the playlist from that point in time so I could find the title. Just super friendly. We would go there again and again.

Our visit in August: Positive: - Ambiance - Staff very nice Negative: - The rust bread burger with a side dish for a total of €19 was really not enjoyable. In my opinion, the burger patty doesn't come from our own production?! and you can taste it. In the restaurant next door (W...) we had significantly better quality in the same price segment the next evening. - The men's toilet would have benefited from an interim service.

Take a break after a hike with our dog on the beautiful terrace. Ask if the waitress can bring water for the dog? Answer: No. Either take the dog to the bowl or fill a bowl with water. Oh well??? Then menu. Lots of questions about what and how to order. With or without ice cream, Kaiserschmarrn with ice cream or in the pan. We weren't the only ones who were a bit overwhelmed. But it was nice that the senior teacher at the service was there, he explained it like a sergeant.

The prices are really expensive... Prices are at the end of the line.

Went there for dinner on a Monday and reserved the table online. At the weekend the Alm was full and we made a reservation as a precaution so that we would have been able to get a table. The food was very tasty and plentiful. We had the Jäger Schnitzel and the chicken schnitzel. The service was great. Can only be recommended.

Busy as usual but the food is really good, a tiny bit of Bavaria right on top of the Harz Mountains. Definitely worth a visit.EDIT: went there twice now since my last review and left empty handed. Service staff ignored us for about 15 minutes, about 20 people on the terrace, 3 service staff were unable to greet us or take an order. One of those places that is always busy and don’t care how manny people walk away all upset since there are already other people waiting for a spot. There are more options on Torfhaus, you are better off there.
