Giant schnitzels that were absolutely delicious. Excellent value for money. The service was very friendly, what more could you want? We felt very comfortable there.

Always a pleasure. A local spot, often busy. We were lucky to get a table for two without an appointment. The portions used to be bigger.

We were a bit disappointed with the food. The schnitzel (€21.90) was rather dry and the breading very tough. The salad had a yogurt dressing that simply tasted of yogurt and lacked any finesse. The pepper sauce on the schnitzel was okay. I find over five euros for a glass of apple wine a bit too expensive. It's also unpleasant that you have to pay an extra euro for a sauce served separately. The ambiance was as lovely as ever!

Some things change...and others, thankfully, never do. For over 30 years, the service and quality have remained consistently excellent. The chef, along with the stylish ambiance, is another positive constant. XXL here doesn't just mean filling your stomach, but experiencing a delicious meal. Very good value for money, even after the price increase!

Having been a regular customer for over 20 years, we've experienced questionable conditions there quite a few times recently. We last ate there on October 10, 2025, with a table reservation. When we arrived (with a one-year-old child), the "head waiter" initially yelled at us, asking why we were arriving with the child in a stroller. (Note: it folds up to the size of a briefcase and is carried in the cabin by every airline.) Then we were shown to our table, which was fine. The salads arrived, and our son ate some of it. As is the case with small children, things sometimes fall on the floor; we always clean it up before we leave and leave the table as we found it. When a waitress (who also acted rudely towards us and rolled her eyes on the last visit) saw this, she just mumbled something under her breath. Then the aforementioned "head waiter" came back and yelled at us in front of the assembled restaurant, saying that we had to clean the floor and how rude it was to let children eat like that. The surrounding tables were also simply astounded by such behavior. When I objected that if we had known that we weren't welcome with children, we wouldn't have come, the "head waiter" left us standing there without a word. From then on, we just waited for a long time...groups came, received their appetizers and main courses, and then left again, until after a total of two hours we finally received our main courses. We were practically ignored and didn't receive any drinks or anything else. Then I just paid the "head waiter" and told him again that I wouldn't have come if we had known that children weren't welcome. He couldn't utter another word and took my money without saying a word. When I asked when the boss (who wasn't there this time and last time) would be back, he simply replied, "He'll be back sometime...". Don't get me wrong, I rate the Baumstammhaus's culinary offerings as A+ without a doubt. However, the service only shines with its socially questionable behavior, to say the least. I won't be coming back either privately with my family or with my company. If the boss had found out, I'm fairly sure he would have been thoroughly embarrassed! He, unlike his staff, is always in a good mood, professional, and friendly, no matter what. I would have liked to have told him on the spot, but unfortunately, it wasn't possible. I've attached a picture of the floor in question to this review.

It's always a highlight for us. The service is very quick, they constantly ask if everything is okay, and the food is always delicious! I'd like a little more sauce for the schnitzels 😆

Was there yesterday and had a great meal. The schnitzel and fries were amazing.

Large portions, sometimes lacking in flavor. Eight months later, I was back, and the longer I think about the meal—schnitzel with chanterelle mushrooms, fries, and salad—the more I realize that the schnitzel and fries were good, but the standard sauce and the chanterelle mushrooms on top, which had never seen butter or a pan—were simply heated in water and then placed on top. The salad was drowned in a yogurt sauce; you can't entertain guests like that.

Highly recommended. Very generous portions. Delicious flavor and a reasonable price. Very friendly service, even when the place is full. We'll be happy to come back.

Very nice, but unfortunately, it's become quite expensive these days. Unfortunately, there's almost no alternative to French fries as a side dish, at least not fried potatoes! The side salad is green-heavy and rather bland!

Addendum: Half a year later, and the meat is still very bad. The atmosphere is also unpleasant. We won't be going back. It used to be better. It used to be better. Our first visit 1.5 years ago delighted us. Since then, however, it has steadily deteriorated. Making reservations by phone is difficult, as they always tell us to just show up. Once, we weren't served for an hour. So we simply left. The last time, the meat wasn't good. I sent back the whole schnitzel. The portion of fries is getting smaller every time. Furthermore, no attention is paid to guests' empty drinks. After the first glass, you're left with nothing for the entire evening. This was the last time we were there. It's a shame, because it used to be really good.

Gigantic portions that will satisfy anyone. However, it's become a bit pricey in recent years. Still delicious, and there's a wide selection of schnitzel and steak. Service is sometimes a little slow, but it's reliable. Reservations are recommended.

A note about the parking situation next door at the supermarket...very customer-oriented, so no one gets a ticket out of ignorance. Commendable. 👍🤗 I find the huge portions incomprehensible. I saw so many guests wrapping leftovers in foil. It's great that that's possible...but...necessary that so much ends up on the plate. 🙄 Well, that's my own personal opinion. The service staff somewhat dampened my visit. Reason: Everyone seemed joyless, somewhat strained. They were matter-of-fact in their interactions, such as ordering, etc. My two companions thought so too. BUT: as I said: delicious food, top-notch ambiance. 👍

I was there again after a very long time. The ambiance and service were very good. The burgers were delicious. Unfortunately, the schnitzels were much too thin. My favorite is Fetzer in Oestrich. The schnitzels at Baumstammhaus are unfortunately even more expensive. The taste was okay.

Unfortunately we had to wait 2 hours, there were 9 people at the table, the service was unfortunately bad, we were not asked if we wanted something else to drink after the first drink, we were left high and dry, that was the first and last visit. It's a shame because the ambience was very nice

Comes with fries 🍟 We added a side salad (might want to request they go light on the dressing; I would've enjoyed half as much dressing on mine). Reservation is highly recommended because it's cozy (not a really large place). Log cabin with that rustic feel. The decorations are in character - rustic, woodsy, nature, outdoors.

The best schnitzel for miles around, and it's been that way for decades. Accompanied by a delicious Kirner Pils or a fine Riesling.

Decided to stop here for dinner on a whim. We did not have reservations, but thankfully we were able to get a table when we got there. Probably because we are American and they know we eat fast! Service was great, and the food came out quickly. We had a huge portion of fries to share between the two of us, and the salad appetizer with house-made dressing was delicious. Definitely come here hungry! The schnitzel and the hack steak was fantastic and filling. Love the rustic vibe and outdoor seating too. Will be back!

One of the best schnitzel restaurants in the region, serving not only the best schnitzels, but also delicious salads, tasty burgers, superb pasta dishes, and a very good fried fish with a delicious potato salad. Depending on the season, there's always a special menu with seasonal delicacies. This time, it features chanterelle mushrooms. The staff is super friendly, and wait times are short.

I've been coming here for so many years and I'm still very satisfied. The food is incredibly delicious, the service always has a friendly joke ready. The seating is very comfortable, and the prices are absolutely reasonable for the portion sizes. My favorite dish is the Champion Cream Schnitzel. Today I tried the turkey salad. Both are highly recommended. The kids had potato pancakes and fries. The fries come in huge portions, by the way.

We ate at Baumstammhaus for the first time in 2018 and really enjoyed it – a lovely atmosphere, good food, and fair prices. Unfortunately, the place has declined significantly since then. Prices have risen sharply, and the food was no longer as tasty this time. The schnitzels were noticeably flat, and the overall flavor was rather bland. Unfortunately, it's no longer worth a visit if you're traveling from the Darmstadt area. It's a real shame – we had fond memories of the restaurant, but we wouldn't recommend it at this point.

Delicious meal salad with chicken!

After a long time, we finally returned to the Baumstammhaus. Basically, everything was the same as always: Atmosphere, schnitzel size, crowds. What's changed: 1. The price. When we first went there about 20 years ago, you could get a schnitzel moped for a little over €10; now each schnitzel costs well over €20, which is okay. 2. The schnitzel. Still huge, but very flat. We remembered it differently in terms of taste and consistency. But still okay. The sauce on my winemaker's schnitzel was a dream. It gets a special star for that. All in all: We rarely come here, but we're always thrilled. It'll stay that way!

The restaurant is very cozy, tastefully, and quaintly decorated. I really enjoyed it; I had the paprika schnitzel with cream. A large portion at a fair price. I'll be back.

A truly beautiful log cabin with lots of charm! The interior is very cozy – lots of wood, warm lighting, and a pleasant atmosphere. Outside, there's a small but lovingly designed beer garden – perfect for a relaxing visit in good weather. I ordered a schnitzel – crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, just as it should be. The fries were delicious too! The prices are absolutely reasonable. I'll be back!

The food is delicious, the service is attentive, and the ambiance is beautifully rustic. The only thing is that the air here quickly becomes stuffy when it's busy, but it's worth a quick trip outside. Parking is very limited. The space in front of the restaurant is reserved for employees. It's better to park on the streets of the industrial area. Be careful: the supermarket parking lots are under video surveillance! It's expensive!

We were absolutely thrilled with the food. We had a mushroom cream carving and a veggie burger. The burger was really amazing. I can really recommend it to everyone, even non-vegetarians. My friend, who is also not a vegetarian, tried the burger and said: “I’ll order that too next time I visit.”

We have been customers at Baumstammhaus for many years and like the food. However, we don't like eating there anymore since we became parents. The owner seems to have no understanding for small children. Among other things, we were there this week and had to hear that our son was behaving a bit “uncool”. How do you explain to a 1 and a half year old that it's uncool? Especially since we sat alone outside in the garden (especially because we know that the owner always finds fault with the smallest guests). Unfortunately, we will miss the food, but that was our last visit to the tree trunk house!

We were here once before a long time ago and were completely satisfied this time too. We will come again. Our friends were very excited about the photos we took.

Unfortunately, the quality of our food was not as good as it used to be from the tree trunk house. The height of the schnitzel was comparable to a daily newspaper and the mushroom cream sauce only consisted of a thickened cream mixture with canned mushrooms. To be honest, if I had presented a meal like this to my family at home, no one would have eaten it. The side salad also has a lot of potential for improvement. Looking at the price-performance ratio, we come to the conclusion that we will no longer visit this restaurant.

The only drawback is the price-performance ratio. Canned mushrooms and warmed Rama Cremefine is the mushroom cream sauce. At least that was my impression. Terrible

I personally didn't like it that much, others say it's good

After a long time we were back in the tree trunk house in Walluf. Nothing has changed in terms of the beautiful ambience, the friendly staff and the high frequency of guests. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed with the food and will not visit the restaurant again in the future. Our side salad consisted entirely of inexpensive iceberg lettuce, garnished with 5-6 corn kernels and millimeter-thin strips of pepper. Oh, another diced tomato. On top of this (and unfortunately I have to put it this way) a heavy ready-made dressing was 'slapped' on it, so that the plate resembled a 'mush' and also tasted like it. Hours later we were still burping constantly. 'Yummy'! The 'schnitzel', which was about 2-3 millimeters thin and had more breading than meat, hung left and right from the edge of the plate (which apparently fascinates and attracts many guests), but resembled a Tillmann's Toasty Schnitzel. But I think this tastes better than this restaurant schnitzel. No taste of its own, zero spice. Even a lot of salt and pepper didn't make it any better. The crowning glory was a (ready-made) mushroom cream sauce that sat in the middle of the schnitzel. Completely tasteless and just greasy (thickened cream?). It was therefore no longer possible to taste or tell whether the mushrooms were fresh or canned. If you would like to have this sauce separately and not on the schnitzel in the eventually soggy breading, you will pay an additional charge of €1!!! 😁 We haven't eaten so badly in a long time. At a price of just under €22 you would expect better. But, the beautiful restaurant is more than full and seems to prove the operator right. Anyone looking for mass instead of class is definitely in good hands here. If you fold the millimeter schnitzel together, you might end up with a 'normal' portion of schnitzel. However, visitor numbers and reviews seem to show the opposite. Hence: 'To each his own'.

Ich war schon 25 Jahre nicht mehr im Baumstammhaus. Es hat sich vom Ambiente nichts geändert. Man sitzt sehr eng aufeinander & die Luft war zum Schneiden. Ansonsten war der Service extrem professionell & aufmerksam. Das Essen ist gut & frisch und reichlich, besonders für Fleischliebhaber. Die Preise passen zur Leistung. Kann es zu 100% empfehlen.

The tree trunk house has a very nice ambience, everything is very tastefully decorated and matches the rustic tree trunks. The team is very friendly and the service is top. The food is simply great. All in all, a reason to come back.

I have often received recommendations to come here. I was very happy because I only heard good things. The schnitzel was large but unfortunately the sauce didn't taste good at all and the spaetzle unfortunately didn't taste like anything either. Which was a shame because the schnitzel was very large and unfortunately all the sauce was on the schnitzel. The service was good, unfortunately it was very cold and very drafty. Unfortunately, I didn't feel so well after eating.

Ein Stück Normalität bewahrt sich da unweit der Tore aus Wiesbaden: es ist wie es war, immer gleich gut! Kein Schickimicki, ehrliches auf den Teller und lecker ohne Übertreibung! Sind es 20 oder schon 30 Jahre? Natürlich ist es nix für den Feinschmecker, der seine feine Sauce apart haben will (obwohl das für 50 Cent auch da gemacht werden kann)! Nee, die Soß‘ ist mitten auf dem Schnitzel und es ist uns Gästen seit Anfang an egal, ob es Gluten hat oder nicht! Denn die meisten kommen immer wieder gerne, weil es Spaß macht, stressfrei ist und einfach schmeckt! Und jeden satt und nicht gleich arm macht! Der stets gut gelaunte Gründer und Chef weiß, wie wichtig Kontinuität ist und natürlich gibt es immer mal wieder kleine Änderungen, aber ganz sachte, wie auch moderat die Preise angehoben werden! Und genau genommen, ist die Qualität doch auch immer wieder auf gutem Niveau: kein iberisches Schwein oder japanisches mit Bier getränktes Rind, aber leckeres Schnitzel vom Schwein und ehrliches Hüft- oder Rumpsteak, das eben schmeckt. Und immer mal überraschendes auf der Tageskarte saisonal von Spargel bis Pfifferling. Und wer da meckert, weil man mit Bargeld bezahlt mit stets ordnungsgemäßem Beleg oder vegetarisch essen mag, findet auch Pasta und Salat - und als Veganer schränkt einen schließlich kein Wirtshaus ein, sondern das macht eben jeder selbst! Ja, es gibt auch immer mal Neuerungen, zart und dezent: man kann seit der Nachcoronazeit immerhin schon reservieren!!! Und das Eis ist Premiumeis… und irgendwann ist dann zum Dessert die Sprühsahne auch ne andere! Wichtig: wer das Schnitzel davor zu groß fand, bekommt ohne Gejammer gerne Alufolie zum Einpacken (die Verpackungen beim ToGoGeschäft sind naturverbundener), aber es ist eben kein Abklatsch von XXLRestaurant wie Waldgeist, sondern wirklich lecker und nicht nur groß! Aber Neuerungen kommen eben langsam, denn wir wollen auch mal Kontinuität in Ruhe genießen! Macht einfach so weiter, wir wissen es zu schätzen, dass Ihr immer freundlich, zuvorkommend und ehrliches Wirtshaus seid, wo Waldorf und Stadler auch nix zu meckern haben und groß und klein noch nen Lolli nach dem Essen haben dürfen!!!

For me one of the best restaurants I know! The quality of the food (steaks, schnitzels and minced steaks) is very good and just delicious and great. The portions are really generous! There is Kirner beer here and the staff - especially the boss - is simply totally authentic, friendly and always has a smile on their faces!!! Please keep it up!!!!
