Highly recommended! Jerry (the owner) conjured up some incredibly delicious food. Great atmosphere and very friendly service. As luck would have it, there was live music from 9 pm onwards. We'll definitely be back 💛.

A hidden gem in Leipzig! I visited here for my boyfriend’s birthday dinner and was pleasantly surprised by the experience. The restaurant boasts a homely atmosphere mixed with culture and tradition. The food was decadent and flavourful and the drinks were a refreshing balance. We will be coming back to enjoy more summer evenings here soon!

We enjoyed the evening in the beautiful courtyard. The food arrived quickly and was delicious. The service was very friendly, and for younger guests, there's even a shaded sandbox with seating for supervised adults. :) They've truly thought of everything! Thank you for that! A wonderful courtyard atmosphere. The owner goes to great lengths to please his guests. Everything is freshly prepared and cooked. We chose the set menu for two people and were more than satisfied. A very authentic restaurant and an absolute recommendation! We will be back!

A true taste of African lifestyle and hospitality in the heart of western Leipzig We were at Basamo for the third time today with the friendly owner Jerry from Mozambique... his charm and cooking skills are unbeatable. We love African cuisine, and when the tram isn't squeaking by outside, you really feel like you're on vacation sitting on the terrace with a bar. Having been to several African countries, we can say: absolutely authentic! The prices are also perfectly reasonable; we'd love to come back and recommend the restaurant to anyone who loves Africa... or whoever wants to become one ;-)

We went there 2 people after the place was closed and the owner opened up shop for us , offered us drinks and started playing some music , the place came alive in matter of minutes. The food was phenomenal, we got the matapa ( the coconut curry )and the piri piri chicken , we went home happy and full . The food takes a while to come out but if you’re not willing to wait for good food , then maybe you don’t deserve good food 🤌🏼 . Highly Recommended.

Great service, delicious food and a warm host!

I went there with friends, and we had to wait over 30 minutes just for our drinks (Coke and beer), and over an hour for our food order, which we ultimately canceled. The owner and chef had told us shortly before the cancellation that he no longer remembered what we had ordered and behaved very unprofessionally after we canceled the order and wanted to leave. I'm definitely not going there again.

Really bad service, understaffed facility, really slow pace even for 4 simple drinks. Waited for more than an hour and upon inquiring, we got to know they couldn’t find our order… had to cancel the food and leave hungry. The owner even threw tantrum that we decided to leave instead of waiting further for the food.

Coming from Lisbon to visit Leipzig during a festival, we visited this restaurant. We have nothing but good things to say. The service from Mr. Jerry and his staff is impeccable, and the food is top-notch. A special mention goes to the cocktails, which must be among the best in the city! We'll definitely be back!

Very lovingly designed courtyard, perfect for summer evenings, where we ate excellent Mozambican dishes (chicken and scampi with peanut and coconut sauces) after fruity cocktails. Thank you for the warm welcome, we'll be happy to come back!

Not only the food but also the program is convincing. We had the great shrimp and the juiciest chicken. It's rare to be able to enjoy dishes that have been cooked to such perfection. The meat also scored points with its tenderness at other visits and dishes. We also liked the cocktails. But nothing beats the warmth of the restaurant owner. I would recommend it again and again. And in summer, great outdoor location

When we visited Leipzig in mid-January, we actually had other plans when it came to eating, but they didn't quite work out. So we looked for alternatives and came across BasaMo Island. The first impression was a bit strange as it was a Saturday evening and only one table was occupied. However, we were very positively surprised. Everyone was super friendly and the food was excellent. For people who love spicy, just the thing. The dessert, which was just a fruit salad, was also excellent. Above all, I was impressed by the price-performance ratio. The BasaMo Island is a must for me the next time I visit Leipzig :)

Really tasty food, in a cosy, chilled setting (we sat inside in the winter!). Ive not had Mozambican food, and it was extremely yummy. Service was excellent - very genuine and friendly and we really enjoyed all of our dishes. Limited offerings but this is real, honest, homemade cooking and ensures a high quality. Chef and owner took time to say hi and was lovely. It was a Tuesday so not very busy, but seems like it would have good vibes on a busier weekend night as well. Strong recommend for a different cuisine in Leipzig.

We celebrated our wedding at Jerry's with 60 people. It was a wonderful celebration, great food, great service and lots of space for joy in life. Jerry is a wonderful host! The children among the guests were also completely satisfied thanks to the large sandpit. It couldn't have been nicer!

Small oasis in the west of Leipzig. The food is incredibly tasty, everything is completely authentic. And above all, great people who want you to feel comfortable. Great boss, great service, great ambience. Can only recommend the Basamo. Everything is just right here.

Came in late and the owner kindly allowed me to eat, even though I was the only customer left and it was 22:30 on Tuesday! Easily the best food I’ve had in Germany. I missed the spice and was so tired of Döner, Pizza and Schnitzel. The Piri Piri chicken was delicious!

In a nutshell: One of the biggest insider tips in Leipzig. The food is out of this world. The hearty pancakes with peanut sauce are indescribably good (I don't think it's on the menu). The Wagaya cocktail has catapulted itself into my top five. The atmosphere is special. I've never been to Mozambique but it feels authentic. You have the feeling of escaping the stressful world outside for a moment. The service and the boss are extremely nice, hospitable and respond to every request. The second time within 3 days. The discreet location adds to the charm of this magical restaurant! Everything from the ambience to the service is warm and inviting. And the food is sumptuous beyond words! Especially recommend the Carne de caneiro (lamb with couscous) and the chef's special pancakes with peanut sauce (savory not sweet). Also, the chef is the friendliest and sweetest person.

Kleiner Familienbetrieb. Sieht von außen nach nicht viel aus - aber sauleckeres Essen, sauleckere Cocktails - und ein Wirt, der sich von Herzen um seine Gäste bemüht. Den Laden merken wir uns auf alle Fälle!

Durch Zufall hier gelandet - ein Glückstreffer! Absolut nette Atmosphäre, total gute Cocktails zum fairen Preis, das beste Rührei ever und ein absolut liebenswürdiger Wirt, der alles gibt. Wir sehen uns wieder, Danke für alles!

Das Essen ist sehr gut, und die Melonen-Mojitos köstlich, die Bedienung freundlich. Das Restaurant hat einen großen, schönen Außenbereich. Für Kinder gibt es einen Sandkasten mit viel Spielzeug, wo mein Enkel lange spielen konnte. Wenn der Inhaber allein ist, dauert es allerdings lange, bis das Essen kommt.

Kleines authentisches Restaurant mit einer kleinen Speisekarte. Der Chef war selbst gerade im Urlaub, aber seine Vertretung war kompetent, hat lecker gekocht und Cocktails gemixt und manchmal witzig improvisiert Essen war sehr lecker und die Preise sehr moderat
