BarrelHouse in Neu-Ulm

We went to the BarrelHouse before the basketball game and were absolutely thrilled! The spare ribs are absolutely recommended! Nice and tender, deliciously marinated. The portions were generous, too! The sides were also good, though I would have preferred a bit more of the American version of the coleslaw, but it was still delicious.

A great evening – good friends – a great atmosphere – top-notch service – fast and friendly – ​​the ribs were incredibly delicious and the portions were very generous – the homemade beer was delicious, and the girls were treated to a summer spritzer. We'd love to come back.

We've eaten at this restaurant several times now. The food, the service, the ambiance—I give them all more than five stars. I can recommend everyone to try this restaurant. I always enjoy coming back.

Quite a nice place. In my opinion, the spare ribs aren't marinated, but simply smothered in sauce, so that's a big minus point because the restaurant claims they're the best in town, which isn't good enough!

Actually a good restaurant, this was our second time there. For our main course, we ordered spare ribs and burgers from the daily specials. Ordering the first drinks and food was quick, the drinks arrived, followed by the appetizer, and soon after, the main courses. The spare ribs were beautifully tender and delicious. Halfway through the burgers, we noticed that the meat patties were still raw inside. We complained and after a while, we were given two new burgers. We also got a free ice cream with fruit for dessert. So far, all good. Although the raw meat patties are a bit embarrassing. After the main course, we were practically ignored. The empty plates sat in front of us for at least 30 minutes without anyone passing by to clear them away. Only after we insisted were they served. The other drinks were also only served when we called out. Conclusion: The spare ribs were delicious, the burgers were too greasy and ours were raw, and the service was incredibly poor. The music is also relatively loud and the fur-covered benches are uncomfortably hard.

It's nicely decorated, but the music volume is too loud for me to hold a conversation. I also waited over an hour for the food I ordered. By that point, my patience had run out: I canceled my food order, paid for the drink, and said goodbye forever.

A brief description of my review: There were 8 of us there on June 5, 2025, at 7:15 p.m. Three people had an appetizer, the rest didn't. We waited a long time before we were even served. The appetizer came relatively quickly, about 25 minutes. We finished the appetizer after about 15 minutes, and another 10 minutes passed before our plates were picked up. Up to this point, 50 minutes had passed since we were seated. Another 35 minutes had passed, and still no food. One of us went ahead and canceled his order and didn't want to wait any longer. When we asked where the food was, we were fobbed off with a "It's very busy today." After another 20 minutes, the food finally arrived. I had the BBQ RIBS with chili cheese spaetzle. As for the food itself, it was delicious, although the BBQ sauce reminded me of McDonald's. But it's their own special sauce. When I asked for compensation, he said no, saying he could give us an espresso or a shot on the house. So, in conclusion: my time is worth exactly one shot to them. P.S. On June 6th, there was a "square dance" (I don't know if it was actually one, but it looked like one). The music was so loud that we had to shout at each other at times, and the table for 8 is so small that eight people can't sit comfortably at it; it's more like a table for 6. All in all, I personally will never go there again.

I give the Barrel House 5 stars because the food is excellent (I recommend the ribs), the atmosphere is very pleasant and American-style, and the service is super friendly. Fun fact: There are two robots that pick up the food from some tables.

I posted this review a year ago: "Based on the positive reviews, we visited the BarrelHouse this afternoon and didn't regret it. Extremely friendly service and an excellent baked cod fillet fully met our expectations. The icing on the cake was the homemade ice cream (many Italian ice cream parlors could take inspiration from this for how to make good ice cream). Ambience very good. Unfortunately, the employees were annoyed that we came with a smaller group (2 were missing). With the good crew, the wait of around 1 hour for the food was over quickly. The digital menu was actually unnecessary. I decided on the burger. Unfortunately it didn't say how big the patty was. So that was a surprise. The patty was estimated to be 140g in size. and had to be looked for in the brioche bun.

The food and the place itself are really great; But I have to be honest: Order & Pay doesn't work at all, especially since you can only pay with a credit card or ApplePay. In our case there was only one person who had a credit card and therefore had to take care of the orders all evening. It wasn't a relaxed dinner. We had forgotten a drink - we had to order it afterwards and it only came in the middle of the meal. A service worker would have noticed earlier that something was missing, but the (really nice) waitresses are busy running after the food robots to prevent them from crashing into something. Wouldn't it make more sense if the service staff were used for the actual service??? There wasn't enough dressing on my salad, but since no one ever comes to the table, I couldn't ask anyone... All in all: despite the great food, I won't come back because the lack of service really ruined my evening.

We were there for the 2nd and last time. Only credit card payment was possible outside. Inside we were told we would get the table for 1.5 hours. It was okay, we didn't want to sit for long. After choosing from the very confusing menu, we realized that there was another offer - we were not told beforehand. The starter bread came quickly and was delicious. However, we had to ask for cutlery. And then? Wait... wait... wait... over an hour later the food arrived after another complaint. We wanted to leave without the main course... Finally it happened. Unfortunately it was still cold. Given the prices quoted, we don't want to test it again.

There were a lot of free tables, everything outside was free, we were sent away because apparently there was no more space. There was no food outside, they said, but the people outside had some. The kitchen is also supposed to be at capacity, but whether you want to put up with the waiting time wasn't even asked. The weather forecast had been predicting good weather for days and there was a basketball game across the street. You can really prepare for something like that. It sucks, especially because there aren't any good options in the area. But with the prices being so high, they probably don't need to try too hard.

However, if you come mainly for the food and value good value for money, you could easily be disappointed.

Very nice location with enough parking spaces. The dining room is decorated in the style of an American noble barn and the service is extremely friendly and fast. The menu does not reveal any culinary classification. From lentils with spaetzle to spare ribs to South Tyrol bacon, everything that was ordered was still of good taste. The price is a bit high, but perfectly fine for the quality.

We had a very relaxed and cozy evening with friends at the Barrel House in Neu-Ulm. Very friendly, attentive service. The spare ribs and my steak were great. In the future, please bring a cleaning cloth with the ribs and a wardrobe would be great. Otherwise everything was great and I would love to come back again.

We were there for the first time, the place is beautiful! Wonderful atmosphere and excellent value for money. The food is really good, especially the ribs and schnitzel which were outstanding! The only thing we can criticize is the price of the starter platter to share: €17.90 per person is too expensive for what is on offer. We recommend including a dish with only salmon and prawns in the starter menu as these were highly appreciated by my husband and brother-in-law. I absolutely recommend the restaurant!

It appears that the owner is “fed up”. I wanted to place an order for self-collection. It couldn't have been more unfriendly. Explanation from the boss: They are a restaurant and not a fast food restaurant, they don't deliver (we don't want to either - we pick up ourselves), the kitchen is already overwhelmed (too few staff?), only if we come and sit at a table , we get the food (which refutes point 2). When asked if we could come over now, he said that tables were free but the kitchen was still overloaded. He only wants to order online in the future! And my answer was constantly: No problem, I have time! The conclusion: no food - he refused to take the order - time 6:00 p.m. Unfortunately you can't give 0 stars!

First of all: we love the Barrel House. We've been eating there regularly for years, even before it became very popular. Ambience and food top! Now we had a little baby and wanted to order food from there during the postpartum period. 3 unsuccessful attempts later: First closed societies and you don't make food to order. Today the next disappointment: The shop is so full, the kitchen couldn't handle any additional food: No problem on our part, we prepare all the food on site, we just pick it up as soon as the kitchen comes along. We have no time pressure. Answer from the staff on the phone: that wouldn't be possible either and after all we are a restaurant and not a delivery service that takes food away from home. UM? You are a restaurant, you sell food. Where I eat my food should still be up to me. Especially since pickup is generally offered. Extremely rude manner of the employee, not very helpful. In the end I was also insulted that he had already told me the last two times on the phone that you can only order online. Service is really different, especially with regular customers for years! It's a shame that after offering to wait, the kitchen unfortunately can't prepare food that can be picked up. Poster child for the service desert Germany! Let's see if we try it a fourth time or just look for another restaurant. But please don't be disappointed in the end if several customers look for alternatives over time.

Suggestion? Continue driving. In the "City" there is less BBQ - but there is high-quality cuisine and gastronomy that deserves the name.

Perfect! I haven't eaten so well in a long time. Had an onion roast that was fantastic. Unfortunately it's not very cheap but it's definitely worth it. Great atmosphere and very courteous service. The home-brewed beer is also great. I will definitely come back and can absolutely recommend it.

The location is absolutely beautiful and the service was friendly and attentive.However, we waited almost 1 hour for our food to arrive - even though the restaurant wasn't even half full. The food was served in two batches about 7 minutes apart. The Brenner Schnitzel was good. The potato salad, though, looked pretty mushy, but tasted ok. The veggie dog was just a hotdog bun with tomato and mozzarella. Pretty dry and definitely too expensive. The Main course salad was a joke. 15,50 Euro for a soggy heap of shredded lettuce with some carrots, corn and other indistinguishable stuff all mixed together into an unpleasant mess. It looked like someone bought a bag of ready mixed salad and drowned it in dressing before dumping it on a plate. In conclusion that means: if you are just meat eaters in your group it seems to be a good place for dining. For vegetarians and vegans I would not recommend this place.

At the end of September we celebrated our wedding at the BarrelHouse. From planning the day and the menu with Ms. Nassall to the actual celebration, everything was really great. On the day itself, the waiters were always attentive and very accommodating. The food was, as usual, on point, despite the large wedding party! Our guests were very happy about the delicious spare ribs and the crispy rösti. We are really looking forward to going to the BarrelHouse again soon as "normal" guests, remembering our beautiful wedding day and enjoying the great food.

Not recommended. We went to dinner with a larger group, unfortunately half had complaints about the food. The schnitzel was cold and the potatoes in the potato salad were partly not cooked through. Steak was ordered medium but was well done and lukewarm. The supplements came too late. Beef fillet had flax and was also only lukewarm. We then complained about this and received the same piece of meat again, warm but of course no longer medium rare. The mushroom sauce was too salty. I also find it impossible that herb butter and ketchup have to be paid extra. At this price level you can expect better.

My food arrived after what felt like 5 minutes, which left the impression that it was an incorrect order from another table. The salad that was brought at the same time was wrong. The second main course didn't even come. Very disappointing. Price/service/performance is not right here at all. An espresso was offered as an apology. We wanted to eat...together. For me a clear NO. At these prices the service must be significantly better. An absolute flop...

Were there on business and waited over 1.5 hours for the food. The taste was okay, nothing special. The starter platter for 2 people was a joke, just under €36 for a ridiculous portion (picture with clothesline). Fish & Chips felt like 2 fish fingers with a child's hand full of fries. “Feeding like a mother” was sometimes better (the other picture). It's definitely not worth €135 for three people for "okay" food. The service was still the best part of the evening, even though we waited often and for a long time. The last few visits were definitely different, something had changed for the worse in the management, in the kitchen, in the service. Won't be going there again for the time being. Too bad.

We had dinner at the Barrel House with a small group last week. I also went out to eat less often a few years ago. To be honest, I have to say that we had to wait over an hour for the food. In my opinion, the portions were simply too small for the money. I had the fish & chips, but in my opinion the price quoted was clearly excessive for the portion and the food served.

This was my third time at the Barrel House, unfortunately I have to say that the portions have shrunk significantly but the prices have gone up. It was sometimes cheeky what they gave you on a plate for €21. We had to wait an hour for food! And then you don't even feel full despite the starter and main course. It was the last visit to the Barrel House for me. If the price-performance ratio is no longer right, I'd rather go to other restaurants in Ulm! Luckily there are still many good restaurants in Ulm where the price matches the service!

I've eaten there several times, very suitable for vegetarians. I can only say positive things about the food. You have to pay particular attention to where you make your reservation, whether it's at Willy's or at Barrellhouse. Otherwise, the employees sometimes become unfriendly, even when there isn't much going on. It is better to reserve very early before events. We had to wait over an hour and had the feeling that the waitress was avoiding us rather than simply informing us that it was delayed. So not recommended if you have a tight schedule unless you have a lot of lead time. But we were able to stay parked there.

A disaster! Actually a beautiful beer garden and a great ambience, but despite reservations we had to wait almost 2 hours for 4 meals, some of which were lukewarm. The waiter's comment - 'yes, cook 130 meals, it just doesn't work that quickly! If the kitchen doesn't have that much capacity, you can't accept that many reservations. The food was good, but we definitely lost our appetite. In addition, it is actually very expensive because you usually have to pay for the side dishes and dips separately. We will definitely never come back!

The rump steak was fabulous and I've rarely had such juicy spare ribs. Side dishes were also very tasty! Very pleasant and nice atmosphere. Sufficient parking spaces available. We'll definitely be back!

Hello dear barrel team! We were with you as parents with 3 children, paid 160 € and unfortunately all 5 got up from the table hungry. My 7 year old asked me what else he could eat after starters, fried fish and fries and whether I would share with him! The food was excellent, as was the service. But unfortunately for the quantity there is absolutely no star and no recommendation, on the contrary! Is the tip split between those who work and those who collect?

Unfortunately not good, a rump steak for 36 EUR also has to be convincing, but not here. I expected more for this price. The herb butter comes with 2.5 EUR on top. The ambience and service were great, but the food wasn't.

Very unusual and fascinating, we couldn't get enough of it :-). The food was also very good and the service was friendly. Definitely worth a visit, in front of the door (well 500 m) there is a park with water games for the children and enough space for a digestive walk.

Horrible service, the waitresses are some of the most rude people I've encountered in Ulm to this day. The atmosphere is nice but they're not consistent with any real theme, it's all just a collection of "American" looking things from every era and genre imaginable. The food is actually quite good but there is better American food elsewhere. The place is also quite loud, wouldn't recommend it for social gatherings.

We had to take the cutlery we used for the starter off our plates in order to use it again for the main course .) The price for the mixed starter is completely exorbitant, but it was delicious. The onion roast came cold and almost done (instead of medium rare), but was replaced. With the fish and chips, the quality of the fish was good, but not hot and the breading was moist and stuck to the fish. I know that crunchy! All of this would probably be at significantly cheaper prices. excusable. Not like that. Then it's better to go into the flotsam. You can rely on the quality of the food and professional service.
