I’m from Uganda and the Gambian food here felt so close to home, just with a spicy twist. The peanut sauce, cassava, plantain and spices were delicious, the portions generous, and the ginger drink fresh and healthy. Friendly staff, cozy vibe, and I love that they only serve non-alcoholic drinks. Definitely a new favorite in Berlin.

Really tasty rice dishes, omg 🤩 -Jollof rice was bomb! -okra sauce was yummy! - they have vegan options, but if not, I recommend chicken :) The beef is a bit too hard to our liking. - Definitely try their affenbrotbaum drink. It's great!

I really learned something about African food here. A small but fine selection of typical dishes that were delicious, even if not to everyone's taste. A little less convenient than Italian or Greek 😬 But very tasty for many of us. The service was excellent and pleasantly direct. Overall, we really enjoyed it 🙏

The food was delicious. But we had to wait a total of an hour for our food, even though the place was almost empty. The (presumably) new, young server wrote down half of our orders incorrectly, and it wasn't until the slightly older server arrived that the correct orders arrived.

⭐ 6 out of 5 stars! Super friendly staff and incredibly delicious food – just amazing! Mid-range prices, top-tier taste. The hibiscus iced tea is a total hit in summer – ice-cold, fruity, refreshing. We had the mixed platter with mackerel – as tender as seafoam. It came with a variety of sides – all tasty, but what was the best? Spinach sauce or peanut sauce? Hard to say – both were fantastic. Or will it be just okra next time? What do you think? You can sit outside – the folding chairs are just okay, but the street is pleasantly quiet. Final verdict: 6 out of 5 stars! We’ll definitely be back and highly recommend bantabaa.

An absolute insider tip in Berlin! Authentic Gambian food that's not only incredibly delicious, but also prepared with love and according to traditional recipes. We tried yassa, bennachin, domoda, and fried cassava; every single dish was delicious and wonderfully seasoned. Bantabaa is a must for anyone who loves West African cuisine or wants to rediscover it. The staff was very friendly, and the atmosphere is warm and relaxed. If we're in this city again, we'll definitely be back!

The food is amazing. I had a starter which I don’t remember the name and jollof rice with chicken and it probably was one of the best I’ve ever tried by far!! The guys that work there are also very nice and the atmosphere is great.

Bantabaa offers a delicious selection of West African dishes. There are many vegan dishes, but also some with animal products. I especially recommend the Senegambia Tour, which is available for groups of two or more. If you visit, I would recommend sitting inside – for reasons.

We've eaten here several times. Every dish is absolutely delicious, as are the drinks. The staff are also very friendly. There's never a long wait. My recommendation: "Plassas with plantain" and the "Baobab" drink. We sat outside in the sun and inside. Both had a relaxed atmosphere :)

had an incredible meal here after a studio session with a lovely group of new friends. We shared the Senegambia Tour between five of us, and it was truly something special. The different sauces were full of flavor—each of us had a different favorite, which says a lot about how well-balanced and delicious everything was. We shared all the plates, and the portions were generous—plenty of food to go around. That said, everything was so good we couldn’t resist ordering dessert too. Big shouts to the plantains—easily the best I’ve had in a long time. Highly recommend coming here with friends and sharing a bit of everything. You won’t regret it.

Okay hands down, this food was amazing! Me and my friend ordered two different dishes (one with beef & spinach peanut and one with chicken & okra) and both were equally delicious. The food was so flavorful and the textures and the combination of different flavors (fried bananas, meat, sauce, rice, lemon) was very wholesome. The waitress was also very friendly and the portions were plenty. The only thing is that, at least if you want to sit outside, the space is limited, so it is recommended to arrive early or potentially make a reservation.

Positives: cosy place, really tasty food! Negatives: our reservation was forgotten; had to wait really long to get menus; then waited really long to get food.

If you want authentic African food, Bantabaa is the place for you. The food was incredibly delicious – prepared with love and full of flavor. I was particularly impressed by the warm and friendly service: very attentive, friendly, and simply put you at ease. The ambiance transports you straight to Gambia – colorful, relaxed, and with a great atmosphere. The homemade lemonades are also highly recommended. The selection of dishes was diverse; everything sounded tempting and tasted just as good. A wonderful evening with a culinary journey – I'll definitely be back! Appreciated the food here as the offerings and flavours are not something one commonly comes across in their home city. Given the interesting variety of West African dishes, recommend they consider introducing a menu item that includes a mix of food that would allow diners to try everything in one go. Concerning service, they were very attentive and friendly.

Great food, music atmosphere and service.

No teníamos una reserva, pero nos apretaron en una pequeña mesa cerca de la cocina. ¡El lugar estaba lleno! ¡Y por una buena razón! La comida era absolutamente excelente! Nunca antes habíamos comido comida de África Occidental, pero compartimos el plato mixto con los peces y comimos cada bocado. Y probé una bebida con jugo de baobab, ¡otra primera vez!

Honestly I don’t know anything about westafrican cuisine, so I can’t judge the authenticity, but in my humble opinion this places food tastes amazing. I went for vegan options and was blown away. So so good. I got food from there many times since then. Big recommendation. <3

*not a food rating* We recently visited this place after so much planning. It was just two of us. There were 2 empty tables inside and the waiter saw me and ignored me for 30 mins straight. Along with us there was another couple who got frustrated and left. I’m not sure what’s going on.. building hype with a queue outside? Or just outright ignorance. Atleast try to signal and ask us to wait instead of outright ignoring on purpose. We ended up leaving too.

food was amazing! came at around 6pm on a saturday, without booking we still got a table. we got the mix of dishes with the fish added and it was incredible. nice flavor and lots of food. my favorite was the peanut sauce. definitely recommend the sharing plate so you can try a lot of things!

Yemekler çok güzeldi. İlk defa Afrika mutfağı denedik ama buna rağmen hiç yabancılık hissetmedik. Personel çok güler yüzlü idi. Yemek olarak Senegal Tour söyledik, ana yemeklerin hepsinin küçük porsiyonlar halinde iki kişilik olarak hazırlanmış haliydi. Fiyatlar ise genel olarak uygun. Restorantın atmosferi de çok huzurluydu,ayrıca tuvalet de dahil olmak üzere her yer çok temizdi. Berlin e tekrar gelirsem mutlaka uğramak isteyeceğim.

The vegan options are not worth it. The peanut dish comes with three lonely slices of sweet potatoes and the spinach rice with four tiny pieces of plantain… we were left hungry. For 10€ a take out dish we felt it was not enough quality nor quantity.

Quando viaggio in città estere cerco sempre di ritagliarmi il tempo di almeno un pranzo o una cena in un ristorante africano: la gastronomia del continente nero ha sempre qualcosa di interessante da offrirmi, anche se - come è inevitabile - la riuscita dei piatti varia da caso a caso. Non essendomi mai cimentato in questo genere a Berlino, eccezion fatta per una cena etiope, sono andato a caso, consultando vari siti, nella scelta. E la sorte ha voluto che la mia compagna ed io capitassimo, questa sera, in un locale eccellente, che ci ha consentito anche di fare nuove scoperte. Il piccolo Bantabaa propone infatti cucina del Gambia, paese della costa occidentale di cui non è frequente neppure conoscere l'esistenza, e avventurarsi nel suo menù ha significato godere di appetitose novità. Conoscendo, delle varie salse citate nella carta, soltanto lo Yassa, abbiamo puntato sul "Viaggio gastronomico nel Gambia", che per meno di 17 euro consente a due commensali di sperimentare tutte e quattro le opzioni disponibili, con pollo speziato arrostito (ottimo) o pesce. Come siamo riusciti a finire il mega-piatto è difficile dire, tanto più che lo avevamo fatto precedere da un sostanzioso antipasto di puff-puff (praticamente le nostre zeppole, ma in versione salata e con accompagnamento di una squisita salsa di cipolle e spezie). L'unica risposta alla domanda è: era tutto troppo buono per lasciarlo nel piatto. E non è finita qui, perché io, preso dall'entusiasmo, ho voluto concludere con un dessert altrettanto gradevole, a base di frutto del baobab semiliquido con fette di mele e banane e... cuscus! Questo graditissimo viaggio è costato, con birra analcolica (non servono alcoolici, per motivi religiosi) e lassi di mango e cocco, solo 54 euro, mancia esclusa (qui la carta di credito è accettata). Che magnifica esperienza!

Super leuk tentje en heerlijk gegeten en vriendelijk personeel. Wij hadden een menu waar we van alles wat konden proeven, echt een aanrader als je niet zo bekend met met de keuken.

The restaurant is a bit hidden, but it's worth the journey...the service is great, people are very attentive...the food is absolutely delicious, well seasoned, it's very cozy and a warm atmosphere thanks to dark wood and colors... .. if you're staying for a long time, take one of the great cushions under your bottom, because there is simple wooden furniture, which of course fits great, but doesn't flatter the bottom, but that's the only thing that could perhaps be improved by the owner: soft seat cushions with African Pattern.. Otherwise everything was really great...we'll be back, that's for sure...⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Delusione assoluta! Abbiamo scelto questo ristorante fidandoci delle recensioni lette e ci siamo sbagliati. Volevamo assaggiare qualche piatto originale ...detto fatto! Scegliamo due antipasti , un puff- puff e un platano fritto, buoni ( attenti a chi non piace la cipolla). Dopo abbiamo ordinato la Domada e la Plasos con la CARNE ( con la carne) ma sono arrivati tutti e due senza carne! Pazienza ci siamo detti, non è il caso di mandare i piatti indietro! La parte brutta è che ci hanno fatto pagare come se il piatto fosse con la carne . Senza parole!Mai più in questo locale

Ich bin immer wieder gerne hier. Diesmal hatte ich das Benachin mit dem würzig gebratenen Reis. Dazu gibt's Gemüse (u.a. sehr leckeren Senfkohl) und wahlweise Fleisch oder in der veganen Variante Kochbananen dazu. Ich hatte Letzteres, gute Wahl. Als Getränk hatte ich eine Tamarinden-Limo, spritzig-lecker, nicht zu süß und was Besonderes. Der Service war wie immer toll. Bis zum nächsten Mal.

A cozy, authentic African restaurant.

Unfassbar leckeres Essen! Sehr nettes Personal und authentisches Ambiente. Das Essen war sehr schnell da (und die Portionen sind riesig ☺️)

Wir als alte Africa Fans wollten die Nr. 1 von über 9000 Berliner Restaurants schon ausprobieren. Es liegt nicht gerade in einer Luxusgegend von Berlin und es ist sehr einfach aber mit Charme eingerichtet. Der Empfang von Ruby, der Kellnerin war sehr herzlich und sie hat uns gut beraten und bedient. Das Essen war hervorragend. Wir hatten 2 Vorspeisen, Manjuk Pommes und Puff Puff Bällchen, beides mit einer sehr schmackhaften Zwiebelsauce. Die Hauptspeise war eine Platte für 2 Personen mit weißem und dunklen Gewürzreis, Kochbananen uvm. Dazu noch 4 verschiedene Saucen. Alles ein Gedicht. Wir freuen uns schon auf die nächste Berlinreise mit einem Besuch in diesem Lokal.

Everything is amazing- the homemade drinks (especially the tamarind one) are so refreshing, the starters are great and the main plates are incredibly flavourful. I can’t recommend Bantabaa enough!
