A reference for good upscale Thai food.

Not recommended for allergy sufferers, especially those who need gluten-free dishes! When we reserved the table, we were assured that we could get gluten-free dishes and “that wouldn’t be a problem!” Then immediately upon arrival I was asked for the allergen card, pointing out that I can't tolerate gluten. This allergen card was just the legend for which letter behind the dish refers to the individual allergens. Totally ok. But when I ordered, I was specifically asked to pay attention to the gluten in my dish. The food arrived 30 minutes later and when I asked, I had to contact the kitchen. It turned out that the dish I ordered did indeed contain gluten. In fact, the entire menu is labeled incorrectly and only two dishes can be ordered gluten-free. In fairness, this dish was at the table very quickly, so I could still eat together. After the problem was identified, all three waiters were very careful, nice and accommodating. I don't want to blame the service; among other things, one of the service staff was still very new, but handled the situation well. However, I would like to make my displeasure clear to the restaurant and management. After asking a total of 4 times and making sure, I was still served a dish with gluten. The labeling of the card is obviously knowingly incorrect. And reassuring on the phone that you can be served despite your allergy, but then only being able to do so with a lot of hassle, borders on false marketing.

Great food, great service, worth it! The only minor points of criticism are the loud background noise at full capacity and the somewhat cramped table arrangement. Still really highly recommended!

This was our second time here. On the first visit in the summer it was a 10/10, absolute enthusiasm. Now the second time it's still good but with slight drawbacks. Unfortunately, the reserved table was located near a ventilation shaft, and it was very unpleasantly cold through the ventilation that at some point you even had to sit with your winter jacket on. But the food was great again, only the StickyRice was unfortunately too dry and not creamy compared to the first visit. The first time it was my first StickyRice ever, and I raved about it for days afterwards, unfortunately that wasn't the case this time. The first course and main course were again really great 👍🏼 Despite the small defects on the second visit, I can recommend this shop with a clear conscience 👌🏼

Great restaurant with delicious food. There were six of us and we chose different dishes. Whether from the wok or curries, everything was very tasty. We had a table by the window. Unfortunately it was very cold there. However, the friendly service quickly gave us a better/warmer seat.

An einem Sonntagabend haben wir in gemütlicher Runde ganz hervorragend gegessen - zwei von uns sind Vegetarier, die anderen beiden haben Fleisch zu ihren Gerichten gewählt - und alle waren sehr zufrieden mit ihren wohlschmeckenden Gerichten. Vielen Dank - wir kommen ganz bestimmt wieder.

Friendly welcome in a great atmosphere. Fast attentive service. The dishes were well prepared and very tasty. Here the price-performance ratio is ok. At 2100 we left the restaurant with very good Thai cuisine, it was full except for one seat. We'll be back. Thanks to the service👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😄.

Begrüßung freundlich, wurden aber gleich beim hinsetzen angesprochen das wir nur 2 Stunden Zeit hätten. Das Fleisch war leider bei allen Speisen trocken und zäh.

The pad thai at this restaurant are simply excellent. The flavors are authentic and the ingredients are fresh. A real treat in every bite. The staff is great and always smiling, which makes the experience even more pleasant. I highly recommend!

We would have liked a second drink, of course we could have made ourselves noticed...Hence the service only 3*. The food is relative, I'll eat something different next time ;-) That doesn't mean I didn't like it, for me it was just missing the finishing touch. Kind regards

Eigentlich war es perfekt. Das einzige, was uns gestört hat, war, dass wir sehr schnell unser Essen bekommen haben. Wir haben gerade unsere Getränke bestellt, sind noch mal zum Händewaschen gegangen und 3 Minuten später war das Essen schon auf dem Tisch. Das hat uns etwas von einer entspannten Atmosphäre genommen. Wir waren gefühlt noch nicht richtig angekommen, konnten das Restaurant noch nicht auf uns wirken lassen und ein Gespräch war dadurch etwas unterbrochen. Das Essen war heiß und lecker, das Gemüse bissfest. Auch der Service war sehr angenehm und freundlich. Es ging uns nur zu schnell. Wenn wir Essen gehen, genießen wir gern ein gutes Gespräch, die Atmosphäre. So mussten wir uns sofort ans Essen machen, das war schade und hat das Erlebnis etwas geschmälert.

If I couldn't give a star at all then I would. I ordered a table for three people and was asked what kind of reservation it was. A birthday! When we entered the restaurant at the reserved time, we were assigned a table that would never be enough for 3 people. Approximately 1 meter x 1 meter. Right next to the toilet. Actually a table for one person, maximum for 2 and only if you turn a blind eye, but definitely not for three. Since we weren't offered another table, we left the restaurant and looked for another restaurant. It just sucks, this is not how I imagined my birthday to be!!! Banmaai never again!

The five of us celebrated a special occasion at banmaai, a true gem on Brunswiker Street. This stylishly decorated Thai restaurant enchants with its relaxing atmosphere. Despite the full house - a reservation is definitely recommended - we were looked after by an attentive and extremely friendly service team. The menu offers an impressive variety of dishes that not only impress in terms of taste but also visually. Each dish is a feast for the senses, freshly prepared and with a remarkable depth of flavor in which the individual spices are clearly evident can taste. For anyone looking for an all-round successful evening in a warm atmosphere with exquisite food, banmaai is the perfect choice.

Very good restaurant. We come here 2 to 3 times a year and for good reason. Delicious food and fair prices. The staff is in a good mood and friendly. The ambience is appealing. The menu is extensive and well structured. Here you can easily and pleasantly spend a few hours with family or friends. Clear recommendation.

We went here for lunch the other day and I have to say it was OK. But nothing more. You can order a menu for lunch, which includes a homemade drink and then a chocolate cake with a liquid center or an espresso. Unfortunately, the service forgot a few things, for example the dessert, which arrived quite late except for the ice cream for the child. That didn't happen anymore. It's a shame actually. The taste was quite good, but for us personally it wasn't a big hit. We sat much longer than we wanted, a total of 2 hours. That was too long for lunch.

Enticing menu, great atmosphere, attentive service. Due to heavy rainfall during the heatwave we had to sit inside, and got the Thai feeling with high temperature, humidity and original food. As recommended by a friend, the peanut curry didn't disappoint.

We were definitely not disappointed, service, food really wonderful, value for money definitely fits here. What I would particularly like to praise here: the mango dish was prepared with really ripe mangoes (unfortunately I have often had negative experiences in other ways) and the young man who served us was also very pleasant, attentive and friendly. When we are back in Kiel, we will definitely come back!

The food was served in a reasonable time. I had Thai curry, which was very well prepared, with rice. Food was ok, but could have been a bit more filling. For dessert we ordered sticky rice, it was good and everything was beautifully presented.

My fiancée, who was born in Thailand, and I were extremely disappointed… Seems very Germanized. Then it's better to go to lanna, chok chay or to the Thai street food festival in Hamburg.

The food tastes good. Only person has lack of service. There were two of us and we ate on the terrace. The waitress was very nice. After that she was probably off work. Then we won't get any more service until the end. Although the other tables were close by and asked quite often. We were blind...

Food was wonderful. Had Tuna tartar, very flavorful and well presented. Likewise other dishes of Crispy Chicken and Beef Wok were excellent with just the right spice to be Thai. Also great and energetic atmosphere.

Banmaai in Kiel is undoubtedly one of the best restaurants I have ever visited. The culinary experience is simply outstanding - the food is always fresh, authentic and tastes excellent. Whether it's a starter, main course or dessert, every dish is prepared with great care and attention to detail. Particularly noteworthy are the diverse options, which also cater to individual preferences and special requests. The atmosphere at Banmaai is equally impressive. The decor is cozy and inviting, with a touch of traditional charm that completes the ambience perfectly. You immediately feel comfortable and can enjoy the relaxed atmosphere. The large outdoor area is a real plus, especially on warmer days, providing additional space for guests and a wonderful opportunity to enjoy dining al fresco. When it comes to staff, Banmaai exceeds all expectations. The waiters are not only extremely attentive, but also incredibly friendly and accommodating. They remember special requests and do their best to fulfill them. It is remarkable how well they remember individual preferences and always take them into account. This personal touch makes every visit a special experience. A small downside is sometimes the volume of the music. While it adds to the overall atmosphere, it can occasionally be a little too loud. However, this varies and is not always the case, so it hardly detracts from the overall impression. Another aspect that particularly sets Banmaai apart is its location. After every visit to the UKSH, which also does excellent work, I look forward to a trip to Banmaai. It is the perfect place to relax after a long day and indulge in culinary delights. By the way, I've been coming here for a while and can't understand all the bad or less good reviews. Overall, Banmaai in Kiel deserves an unreserved recommendation. The combination of excellent food, cozy atmosphere and excellent service makes every visit a real pleasure. I therefore give it a full 10 out of 10 and am already looking forward to my next visit.

Das Restaurant: sehr einladend & authentisch! Wunderschönes Ambiente, wertig und mit viel Liebe zum Detail eingerichtet. Sehr sauber! Der Service: Weltklasse! Sehr aufmerksam, kompetent & außerordentlich herzlich. Vielen lieben Dank nochmals an das gesamte Team!!! Das Essen: Grandios, leider mit leichten Abstrichen. Wir haben mit 6 Personen jeweils 3 Gänge bestellt, jeweils unterschiedliche Gerichte. Daher konnten wir einen guten Querschnitt durch die ansprechende Speisekarte bekommen. Alle Gerichte (Vorspeisen, Suppen, Salate, Hauptgänge sowie Desserts) waren außerordentlich schmackhaft & ansprechend präsentiert. Insgesamt waren die Portionen aus meiner subjektiven Sicht in der Menge eher übersichtlich, so dass es selbst für ungeübte Esser kein Problem darstellen sollte, drei Gänge zu bewältigen ;-) Anmerkung: ich bevorzuge stets Qualität vor Quantität!!! Die Qualität der Speisen: im Geschmack und der Sensorik hervorragend. Kaum besser zu machen! Leider mit wenigen Abstrichen: So waren die (mit Aufpreis versehenen) Garnelen beim Papayasalat lieblos auf zwei hölzerne Schaschlikspieße gesteckt, sowie trocken gebraten und eher hart… Die vegetarischen Frühlingsrollen waren ebenfalls sehr hart frittiert. Auch das geht besser. Die Soßen zu den unterschiedlichen Hauptgängen hingegen waren super lecker und allesamt erfreulich unterschiedlich. Bei den Desserts ist ganz besonders das Kokoseis zu erwähnen. Es war sensationell cremig und unfassbar köstlich. Das war wirklich ganz großes Kino! Ein absolutes MUSS für alle Liebhaber der Kokosnuss! FAZIT: Das Ambiente sowie die Qualität der Speisen top. Der Service ist Weltklasse! Daher in jeder Hinsicht empfehlenswert und immer einen extra Abstecher nach Kiel wert!

It was our first time at Banmaai and we loved it. A good menu with reasonable choice but not overcrowded. The service was very friendly and attentive. The order was taken quickly and after a short time the delicious cocktails arrived. The food was served in a reasonable time. We had duck, which was very well prepared, with rice. Everything was above average tasty, but unfortunately the plate was empty too quickly, it could have been a little more generous for our taste. For dessert we ordered sticky rice and mochi ice cream, which was also very good and everything was beautifully presented. We will definitely come back, but then with a starter😉

Wir waren zum ersten Mal im Banmaai und sind begeistert. Eine gute Speisekarte mit vernünftiger Auswahl, aber nicht überfüllt. Der Service war sehr freundlich und aufmerksam. Die Bestellung wurde zügig aufgenommen und nach kurzer Zeit kamen die leckeren Cocktails. Das Essen wurde in angemessener Zeit serviert. Wir hatten Ente, welche sehr gut zubereitet war, dazu gab es Reis. Alles überdurchschnittlich lecker, nur leider wurde der Teller zu schnell leer, hätte für unseren Geschmack gerne etwas üppiger sein können. Zum Nachtisch haben wir uns Klebreis und Mochi-Eis bestellt, war auch sehr gut und alles auch optisch sehr schön angerichtet. Wir werden sicherlich wiederkommen, aber dann mit Vorspeise😉

We came across Banmaai by chance and actually just wanted to eat something quickly. Which brings us to the reason for the poor service rating. The service was diametrically opposed to the food. Drinks and starters came quickly.... And then nothing, or nothing for a long time. After an hour they said, come straight away. Other tables were almost through. The team seemed, at least that evening, as if they were working together for the first time. For Banmaai, I hope we just had a bad day. The food was fantastic and the shop was stylish too. The price level for a Thai is generally in the higher segment

Es war ein sehr schöner, gemütlicher und kulinarischer Geburtstagsabend mit köstlichen und liebevoll zubereitenden Speisen & Getränken.

The food is really great and the atmosphere is very inviting too! Very dear owner and the staff are mostly very accommodating. Unfortunately, we had a not so friendly experience at lunch a few weeks ago. We were served rather boredly and were "removed" from the terrace at 3 p.m. sharp by retracting the awning. When we were a few steps away, it was extended again. This could definitely have been solved differently through friendly communication :)

When you enter this restaurant you are first impressed by the pleasant atmosphere. The menu offers a variety of different dishes where everyone can find something. The service is friendly and tries hard to please the guests. Then why only 3 stars for the food? Some dishes are already expensive. But you don't get too much on your plate. Please, dear operators of this beautiful restaurant, reconsider your portions. Or use a few more vegetables in your dishes.

Good food but not a real option with a lunch menu at more than €20 per person. That's simply unrealistically expensive for comparatively simple Thai curries. Rather small portions. Service is also more concerned with jokes and less with waiters. No vegetarian dishes in the lunch menu, but the option to change dishes.

We were there for the second time and were thrilled. The food and portions were great and so were the cocktails. The staff was super friendly and accommodating. We also had a great place. Definitely a recommendation - we would love to come back.

I was rather disappointed in this restaurant. In particular, the lunch portion of Pad Thai that I ordered was ridiculously small. I would honestly have eaten twice the amount of noodles. No, I am not a muscular man with a physically demanding job; I am an average sized woman with a desk-job. Still, I left the restaurant far from full. When I mentioned the small size to the waiter, I was being told that this was normal for lunch. I also asked for the dish to be made more spicy. What I got tasted nice, but it could definitely have had more spice in it.

Ein charmanter Abend in sehr angenehmer Atmosphäre. Angenehm unaufgeregtes Serviceteam. Teilweise ein bisschen drüber beim Bestellvorgang. Essensauswahl gut, geschmacklich eher unteres Mittelfeld für einen guten Thailänder. Da haben wir schon oft besser Thai gegessen- schade, weil auch das Ambiente ganz schön ist. Also Gruß an die Küche - da geht mehr. Huhn knusprig war kurz vor angebrannt, das andere Huhngericht schmeckte wie vorgegartes, aufgewärmtes Huhn. Vorzugaren ist zwar nicht ungewöhnlich, aber dass man es schmeckt unnötig und unschön.
