Bagatelle in Köln

We were a group of seven for lunch and are still raving about it. We had a variety of delicious treats, and everything tasted fantastic. Sarah and Tobias spoiled us, and the dessert was the perfect ending to a wonderful day. Excellent! Keep it up! 😀 Update 11/29/25: Please keep up the great work! The eight of us enjoyed incredibly friendly service from Nora and unbelievably delicious food. The relaxed atmosphere made it a truly fantastic evening. Thank you so much!

The seating is very cramped. The portions are so small no one will get full. The waiter, "Timmy," yelled at me because, after 20 minutes without a beer, I finally placed an order and jokingly said, "Hurry up, the desert's dry." In any other Cologne pub, the waiter would notice when customers don't have anything to drink. And all this for €2.50 per Kölsch! I and everyone at my table thought it was incredibly rude of the so-called waiter.

Very accessible online table reservation system. Requests were fully accommodated (quiet table in a corner or against a wall). The staff is always extremely friendly, competent, and courteous. For those who don't (or no longer) drink alcohol: they have a very tasty non-alcoholic white wine on the menu! It's rather unusual to find that offered. I also appreciate their commitment to providing safe spaces for people with disabilities*. Oh, and the food 😉 Always delicious! Consistent quality.

We celebrated our daughter's bachelorette party and it was absolutely fantastic! The whole team was incredibly friendly and spread so much good cheer. A very special thank you goes to Vango – the best waiter ever! Always attentive and funny. Thanks for the great atmosphere – we'll definitely be back!

Bagatelle is currently removing negative Google reviews on the grounds of "defamation." These are reviews that consist of factual statements and are in no way defamatory. That shouldn't be the case. As a lawyer, you just shake your head. Feedback is important and necessary for improvement. But Bagatelle obviously doesn't want that. They just want to have and read good reviews. Therefore: Not good style from Bagatelle. Friendliness and attentiveness are important in my opinion when working in the restaurant industry. Honesty too. For me, that's a given. I'm happy to stop by and tell you about our experience at Bagatelle if truthful reviews are secretly deleted by the owner. That's not acceptable. Addendum: I just see that many others have given negative reviews. We also think this restaurant is overrated. So we're not alone in our review, and the owner is now trying to get these unpleasant reviews removed. How about a culture of accepting mistakes? Tip: You can learn and improve through criticism.

The food was overpriced, 5 shrimp for 9 euros. Nothing special. Prices significantly increased.

Bagatelle offer small tapas from the french cuisine. Since they closed their location in Köln Süd, i didn't dinner here for a long time. My impression last time was that they took some of their best sellers out of the menu (like Coq au vin, Bouf Bourguinon and the mini hamburguer) and replace them with not so atractive dishes. Meanwhile inflation caught up on the menu aswell, and the small tapas that used to be around 5€-7€ are now 8-10€ wich is very pricy for a rather small portion, and brings me to think if i choose a same quality restaurant with a more budget friendly menu. Service was rather slow on a sunday afternoon, probably because of lack of experience (walking back and forth with small deliveries and avoiding eye cobtact so that we waited about 10 minutes to order just the drinks). I used to love this place, but i might look for other alternatives as iny impression they don't offer anymore what they used to. Is still worth a visit if you never been there!

If you like variety, you'll love Bagatelle. Plenty of delicious little tapas-style dishes. Hot or cold. It seems like they come from all over the world. Definitely go in a small group and share... Of course, it's also possible for two, but you'll quickly fill up. The service is courteous and prompt. It's best to make a reservation, though. It's very popular.

The food is okay, but not truly French and not really categorized as such. I think the place is pretty hyped up. They obviously can't handle the crowds, and the hot dishes arrive lukewarm at best. The bread arrives twenty minutes after everything else. I only ate outside, and the ambiance was very nice for an evening drink. But a cozy meal, not so good.

The quality of the food seems to be declining with each visit. We were just there, and before we could even board the train, my girlfriend urgently needed the restroom; she had ceviche... I haven't experienced such a complete lack of response to a tip, meaning neither a thank you nor a goodbye, in a long time (thankfully), even though nothing happened. A shame!

Here you'll find delicious French tapas. The selection is good, including meat, fish, and vegetarian dishes. The desserts are also delicious. The service is good and not overly pretentious. Bagatelle isn't one of those fancy French restaurants, but rather exudes the rustic French charm that you often find in French taverns. In summer, there's a large outdoor area. But there are plenty of tables inside as well. Reservations are recommended, though. See you next time :)

We have been going to Bagatelle whenever we are in Cologne since 2015, so for 10 years. This time our visit was unfortunately very disappointing: the price/performance ratio is completely out of whack, simply too expensive for what is served and how it is served. 1 small basket of (unsalted) sweet potato fries for €7.90?!?! The dishes are all very carelessly presented, any housewife can do better. The taste also lacks refinement. Our bread basket only arrived after two complaints, when we had almost finished eating... What a shame! But you need bread for hot dishes, why can't the kitchen prepare it for serving? Unfortunately very unprofessional, after about 10 years this shouldn't happen anymore, such operating procedures need to be standardized. Nice service, but a bit self-absorbed and above all: not particularly attentive... our empty dishes sat on the table for at least half an hour. The table wasn't wiped after clearing. Untrained service staff can be trained. Besides, you don't rush past every table without checking to see if anyone else wants something. Now it's time for a break from the "Bagatelle." Unfortunately, it must be said: The Bagatelle is nowhere near what it once was. A truly disappointing experience. The €160 for three people could have been better spent. Super delicious food & top service.

MEGA TEAM! I visited on July 5, 2025, and had an unforgettable evening. Even though it was very busy and we didn't have a reservation, our name was put on a waiting list, and we were able to place a drink order. A table became available relatively quickly. The ambiance was beautiful, the atmosphere was great, the atmosphere was relaxed—and the food was incredibly delicious! I would especially like to highlight the team. I've rarely experienced a restaurant so well organized. Despite the crowds, I always felt like I was being looked after. And by such great people, too. Simply amazing! Unfortunately, I'm not from Cologne, otherwise I would be there all the time!

If you want to enjoy a relaxing summer evening in Cologne's beautiful southern part of town, this is the place for you. I can only recommend this place; it's what I imagine Michelin-starred cuisine to be. Everything is super delicious, the service is attentive and very friendly, and the atmosphere outside is also great.

Stinginess! We asked for one or two slices of bread. Yes, of course, but please pay €3.90. With a bill of €50.00 and, as you can see on the table, so many sauces and treats, to charge another €3.90 is simply stingy!!! I've known this place for 25 years!!! What a shame :-( P.S. Before I wanted to post, I even pointed out to the waiter that they were stingy and that I would post the picture. His reaction: "I won't be blackmailed?!" Okay! I didn't mean to blackmail at all! I just wanted to point out to future guests how you treat your regulars these days...

The tapas at Bagatelle are still delicious, and the service is also on point, serving the large number of guests in a friendly and quick manner. It's just a shame that the prices have gone up and the portions seem smaller. Flatbread and dips used to be served free, but now you have to pay for them. In my opinion, the price-performance ratio has become unbalanced.

An unforgettable Carnival Sunday at the Bagatelle Südstadt! Right after the school and neighborhood parade, I was able to DJ at the Bagatelle Südstadt – and what can I say: It was simply Carnival at its finest! The atmosphere was absolutely crazy from the first beat – dancing, singing, swaying – and in between, it got really wild: Planschemalöör live on stage! What a blast! The guys completely tore the place apart, the whole Bagatelle shook – everyone sang along, not a foot stood still. Pure goosebumps! Huge praise goes to the entire Bagatelle team: professional, warm, well-organized – and always with a smile and an open ear. They were simply a great bunch! I'm grateful to have been part of such a special day. This wasn't just a gig – it was Carnival with heart and soul. What a carnival celebration in the Bagatell Südstadt! On Sunday after the school and neighborhood parade, I performed as a DJ at the Bagatell – and it was simply fantastic! The audience: totally into it from the start, they were shaking, laughing, and swaying as much as they could wish for. And then, as if they weren't already crazy enough: Planschemalöör live on stage! The place was on fire, every street could have heard them – singing "Heimat" and "Radau" at the top of their lungs, making Carnival sound like it's written in a textbook. The Bagatell team? A force to be reckoned with! So warm, lively, and with real passion for the cause. You come there and immediately feel like you're with friends. For me as a DJ, that was a real highlight of the session – Cologne sounds, good luck, and heartfelt spirit everywhere. When we play music and see how it touches people, we know why we do it all. All I can say is: See you next year, when it's time to shout Cologne Alaaf again and dance until the parade comes! With music and carnival feeling

Overall good, but food is a bit pricey compared to the quantity and quality

An evening to forget: Quite high prices for small portions from the deep fryer, some of which are probably convenience foods. Service is unprofessional, forgetful, and overwhelmed. Orders don't arrive at all at the same time, but are spread out over an hour (!). Drinks are forgotten but booked. A few slices of bread are charged extra. A long argument over the billing included. In short: The good reviews are no longer understandable. In terms of taste, there are better alternatives in the southern part of the city.

Eins unserer Lieblingsrestaurants. Waren schon unzählige Male hier. Egal zu welchem Anlass passt es super. Ganz besonders kann man hier schöne entspannte Abende mit Freunden haben. Macht immer wieder viel Spaß. Besonders hervorheben kann man die Ravioli mit Mohn und Salbei. Aber hier ist wirklich alles gut.

The food was delicious, but the prices had been significantly increased. The staff was completely overwhelmed. We left after the meal because it simply took too long to get more drinks.

The food is very good. Unfortunately, the service has become very poor. Food is slammed onto the table, the atmosphere is extremely hectic, and in the background, loud electronic music plays that has absolutely nothing to do with a French restaurant – sometimes so loud that you can hardly concentrate on your conversation. It seems as if the service staff are orienting the place around themselves, not the guests. It's a shame, I hope things improve!

Excellent food, atmosphere, very hospitable service. I ate excellent spice herbs nockerl with mushroom pea goulash... Excellent. And they were quite attentive when someone would drink their drink to ask if we needed more. Our group was in separate space so it was quite nice

The price currently being charged is disproportionate to the range of services offered. The selection is significantly reduced compared to before, while the prices have been significantly increased. The previously free bread basket now has to be paid for separately each time you refill it. This is unfortunate. Furthermore, there is no longer a separate men's toilet. Most of the staff seemed overwhelmed. I used to enjoy going there, but now I can get much better prepared food elsewhere for the same price.

Ambiance outside is very nice. The service was chaotic and sometimes unfriendly. We had a large order and some of the food wasn't quite finished yet. Unfortunately the taste wasn't good either. The asparagus soup was a water and cream mixture. It's a shame - for such a price.

Yesterday we celebrated my sister's wedding at Bagatelle. The atmosphere was super cozy, the whole team was very friendly, professional and attentive. Service was excellent all round (although the Bagatelle was packed to capacity in addition to our 40 men and the staff were really busy). The many pre-selected bagatelles tasted excellent. We had a very tasty, atmospheric day and will definitely be happy to come back.

Nice place to sit in the sun if you want to, shade also available. Saturday „happy hour“ from 3-5pm. We arrived on a Saturday a little after 3pm when a wedding party was about to get their food so it took a while before we got all of our orders but we knew it beforehand so it was alright getting the small dishes one after another. Taste was great & friendly servers. Atmosphere only 3 stars as quite a few cars pass here. Only minus: we didn‘t get a basket of bread beforehand (which is indicated in the menu as „everyone gets one but we charge 2,50€ now“) and still got charged for it but we didn‘t complain as we took the table for 2 hours while others „had to wait“. All in all still a good experience 😊

Absolutely tasteless... unfriendly and rude!

Last Friday we spontaneously tried to get a table in the evening. After a short wait, we were allowed to sit at one of the bar tables directly at the bar. We quickly placed our order with a very friendly waitress - unfortunately that was the only positive thing about our visit. What followed was pure chaos. The restaurant was well attended, but despite the large staff, things just weren't running smoothly. Dirty glasses were piled up at the bar and orders took a long time - which wouldn't have been a problem for us because the food was freshly prepared. However, our food was delivered to the wrong table, so we didn't get some dishes at all. Extra plates, additional bread we ordered (for which we had paid extra) or the wine we ordered only came after we asked several times - or not at all. It wasn't my first time there and the menu was drastically shortened compared to before. Unfortunately I have to say: The Bagatelle is no longer what it once was. A really disappointing experience..

My girlfriend and I were there on Saturday and were looking forward to a pleasant evening...Unfortunately that wasn't the case. 1. Seat reservation: Although we had reserved in advance, we were given a table that was so small that it was far too small for the tappas and it was very uncomfortable to sit there. 2. Service: Our waitress brought the wine but didn't pour it. Overall, the service was also rather careless, we were asked to leave the table 7 minutes before the end of our reservation time because the next guests were already waiting (we then sat at a high table, between other guests, right in the crowded aisle, which was absolutely terrible. Previously we had asked to order something more... When I said to the waitress in a friendly way: Sorry, did you happen to forget about us? You wanted to be with us 20 minutes ago?" she simply replied snidely: "It's nice that you responded Watch!” - Sorry, that’s not how you treat paying customers/guests… Conclusion: The evening was unfortunately disappointing. We had hoped to enjoy a pleasant atmosphere, but instead it was rather stressful. Unfortunately two guests were lost…

The food was very nice albeit somewhat small portions but the service was on the slow side and a bit chaotic. They forgot to bring out some of the tapas we have ordered, we had to wait rather long for our drinks. A total of four different tapas from the menu were not available which made it hard for the vegetarians... Maybe they were just understaffed that day but the experience could have been better.

Carnival party as it should be!

So I rarely had such bad currywurst fries at the Baui Festival during Carnival. That for 12 euros is already exorbitant. Unfortunately no alternatives.

The food was totally over salted and inedible. Can't understand the good reviews. The waiter was really unfriendly, you had the feeling that you were not welcome as a “foreigner”.

Seat reservation: Although we had reserved in advance, we were given a small table that was actually only set for three people. That was very uncomfortable. 2. Ventilation: The air circulation was poor, so our clothes smelled strongly of food after the visit - now we have to wash everything. 3. Service: Our waiter brought the wine but didn't pour it. Overall, the service was rather lackluster. Conclusion: The price-performance ratio is not right and the evening was unfortunately disappointing. We had hoped to enjoy a pleasant atmosphere, but instead it was rather stressful. This urgently needs to be improved!

Always worth a visit, good tappas and nice service in a nice atmosphere

On its official accounts, this store makes derogatory comments towards people with a migration background and women. Please avoid this place if you don't want to give space to such people and opinions.

This restaurant may have good food, but the owners have no decency on social media. Totally confused, xenophobic posts where they talk about stupid gender and refugees who, as soon as they get their German passport, "go to their former home country and go shopping for a woman who is almost underage." And then people who criticize them for it call them trolls. Totally indecent. You go to a restaurant to feel good. That doesn't work here anymore. I'd rather cook myself.

My partner and I loved our experience at this intimate neighborhood restaurant. Tapas style plates with classic and nouveau French cuisine were a hit for us! The service was excellent and the drinks kept flowing. Envision a traditional French bistro with the soul of a German bar and you’ve got this crowd pleasing spot. The portion sizes are small but surprisingly filling dependent upon what you order. A previous reviewer recommended 3-4 dishes per person but honestly that was far too much food for us. We would have been satisfied with 2 dishes per person though your hunger needs may vary. I recommend reservations but even on a packed evening the wait (for inside seating) was no more than 15 minutes. It’s worth the wait.

Good and nice service. Unfortunately the food was catastrophic. Tastes like a spoonful of Maggi had been poured into every dish. Crème brûlée has been confused with vanilla pudding.

Extremely good cuisine in this price segment. Despite the full house, the service was impeccable and polite. The concept is very good and you can try many dishes in appropriately "small" portions. It is a little louder, so it may not be suitable for small children and people who have difficulty following a conversation. I would love to come back.
