Bacchos in Marl

It used to be great, but those days are gone... The food itself was okay, but the portion was quite small for the price. The salad that came with the dish was forgotten and offered to us afterward, and it shouldn't be served as dessert. Offering an ouzo as a substitute is ridiculous. And then the question: Why didn't you say anything? Or did your son-in-law forget? They could at least offer a drink. Yet we were charged full price for it...

We went to Bacchos yesterday. Unfortunately, like last time, we were dissatisfied. Therefore, we won't be returning, even though we could walk there. The visually striking waiter once again contributed to the unpleasant experience. It started with a hair in my appetizer, which I pointed out to him. His response was that it must have been mine, since I have long hair and no one with long hair works in the kitchen. I then showed him the short blond hair on my piece of feta, to which he mumbled something unintelligible. I expect a simple "Sorry! I'll pass this on," not "Serves you right!" We then ordered a platter for three people, asking if it would be enough or if we should order individual dishes. The waiter claimed, "You'll never finish it!" Well, the platter was far too overpriced at €120. We weren't full. It contained three small skewers, three stuffed hamburgers, and three tiny beef steaks. The gaps were filled with some gyros. We also got one (!) portion of fries. All in all, a truly outrageous price for that little bit. He even tried to clear the table while we were still eating. The ouzo, which was supposed to be included with the platter, wasn't even there. We ordered four rounds of ouzo in the meantime, so we only noticed it afterward. All in all, after two bad experiences in a row, I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone. I have to say that before the change of ownership, we used to go there often and enjoyed it. But everything has gone downhill; the prices are higher and completely unreasonable. At €190 for three people, the evening was a real disappointment!

The best Greek restaurant in North Rhine-Westphalia, nay, in all of Germany. Atmosphere, team, food quality, etc. – simply perfect. Anyone who complains here should stay home.

A very nice restaurant with truly excellent food! It was my first time here and I was very impressed. This isn't your typical Greek "takeaway" but a proper restaurant! You can see and taste that in the quality of the dishes. Prices are a bit higher, of course, but you get very good quality for your money. The service was pleasant and friendly. We will definitely come back for another meal.

The restaurant is very dirty; the glasses and forks are dirty, there's dust everywhere, and it smells unpleasant. The place needs to be thoroughly cleaned. The artificial flowers look very cheap. The food is very, very salty. The meat portions are small, and there are too many potatoes on the plate. There are no tasty desserts. Yogurt with honey or ice cream are not desserts for a restaurant.

We ate there for the first time (but definitely not the last)! The ambiance was lovely, the staff were all attentive and friendly, and the food was fantastic! We will definitely recommend it.

Don't go to Oberhausen, Essen, or Bochum. The family is putting a lot of effort into this here in Marl-Sinsen. 👌🏼

Today I tried this restaurant in Marl. The restaurant is good, as is the ambiance and service. I eat out quite often and give very objective reviews. As I said, overall it's good, but not outstanding. Hence, a fair 4**** stars.

I had a pleasant visit to Bacchos Restaurant. The service was very friendly and attentive, and I didn't have to wait long for my food, which I really appreciated. However, I found the portions a bit small for the price, which may be due to current inflation. The food tasted okay, but it didn't completely blow me away. Overall, it was a nice evening, and I would recommend the restaurant, although there's still room for improvement in some areas.

Bacchos in Marl is perfect for lovers of Greek cuisine! Super friendly service, great atmosphere, and fantastic food. The tzatziki was the best I've ever had! The dishes are fresh, perfectly seasoned, and obviously prepared with lots of love. I'll definitely be back.

June 19, 2025 - Seven of us were there. My review is for my own benefit. I had 2 Suzukis, 1 pork steak, gyro, and fries. I followed it with ice cream. Without going into the details of the food, I can give it a full 5 stars. It couldn't be better. Timely, good quality, no service bottlenecks. The ice cream was also reasonable for the price.

It was a nice restaurant, the food was very tasty, the portions were still manageable and the price wasn't that cheap, but overall I was satisfied.

No. Mousaka was partly heated in the microwave. Coffee was weak. Onion soup was ok. No reaction whatsoever to the cold Mousaka, even though I had discreetly typed it into my phone. No, don't come again and I believe I'm not the only one. A real Greek would be ashamed.

I really enjoy being in this restaurant, the food is always good, the service staff is always nice, friendly and accommodating, and people should talk less about prices these days. When you go out to eat it costs more than it used to...

This time I was disappointed. The food was served shortly after ordering. There were two of us. I had grilled liver and my companion had a gratinated gyro. The gyro was lukewarm to cold. The owner's reaction when we asked him about it was: "Should I heat it up again?" - Anyone who has ever cooked for themselves knows how long baked dishes stay warm. This gyro was already ready before we ordered it. Returns? - We don't know. The offer was politely declined. The almost complete gyro went back to the kitchen. We don't know whether another guest might have been happy about "this" gyro that evening. My liver was fine, there was nothing wrong with that. Of course, everything was on the bill when I settled the bill. Let the person who makes no mistakes cast the first stone. Mistakes happen. What bothers me is: No word of apology, no offer to make a new gyro (which we would have refused because we usually eat at the same time) and then to collect the full amount. You can do it that way, but you should also be aware that other people see it differently. Speaking of “seeing”, they won’t see us again. But that doesn't really bother the owner.

Very nice Greek restaurant. Despite the extensive menu and quick service, the food is of good quality. You will also be happy to come back because of the very friendly staff. Reservation is recommended. Addendum: Unfortunately, the price-performance ratio still doesn't fit. Some of the meat quality is inadequate. Gyros is absolutely not recommended and is better at most snack bars.

Unfortunately the food disappointed me. The fries were cold, the pork skewer was more tough than tender. It took a really long time for the food to arrive. Ultimately, the portion wasn't big enough for the price.

On Boxing Day we got a table without a reservation, in the next room, but since everything was packed, that's ok. Delicious food, friendly service, what more could you want. The proverbial hospitality of the Greeks is lived here!

We've been eating there for almost 30 years now, and that says it all.

Were very disappointed. Waiter not attentive. Long waiting times for food. The back of the restaurant smelled of cigarette smoke. We won't eat there anymore☹️☹️☹️☹️

It's such a shame. It used to be our favorite restaurant for a long time. My husband's favorite dish has increased by 150% to 39.50 euros. This is absolutely no longer justifiable, especially since the fries, salad and rice have decreased significantly. But there are great Greek restaurants in both Haltern am See and Recklinghausen.

We had dinner with 17 people. In two dishes, the pork fillet was partially undercooked and the steak was cooked through, even though it was ordered medium. The hash browns were very dark and still undercooked, and the mushrooms on the steak were drowned in fat. The special sauce turned out to be curry sauce, maybe you should note that somewhere. If you don't like curry, it's not that good. A waiter seemed quite annoyed. He wrote down the ice cream order incorrectly and thus got it wrong. But there's nothing I can do about it... Sometimes you waited quite a long time for new drinks or for a waiter to take orders. The portions of the food were quite small. And I actually think the best thing is that we left €700 behind and didn't even get an ouzo on the house. We even get it in a Greek snack bar here. I definitely won't go there again.

We ate here yesterday with 5 people and we all had one thing in common: we were all very satisfied. Although the restaurant was very full, the service and the food left nothing to be desired. Although we've been hearing more often lately that we can't go there anymore because it's no longer as good, I wanted to form my own opinion and lo and behold, we'll be eating there regularly again and are already looking forward to the next visit, keep it up . Despite not having a reservation, we were warmly welcomed and were even allowed to choose our table. The dishes were consistently very tasty and fresh. The meat was tender, cooked to perfection and seasoned just right. The side dishes also tasted very good. The service was friendly, attentive and not intrusive. Conclusion: We'll be back!

A sociable evening with friends, a friendly and cheerful host, fast service. Reservations in the evening probably make a lot of sense, word has gotten around about the quality. The food was great and quickly prepared, portions generously generous, prices not excessive. If you still have no idea what you want to eat: the fried calamari are absolutely sensational and freshly prepared, not from a frozen bag. Small drawbacks due to the noise level, the guest room is large and relatively open, so it's a little noisy when it's busy in the evenings. Still absolutely recommended!

Sufficient (free) parking spaces in front of the restaurant. Outdoor terrace (e.g. for smokers). Nice host (as are the rest of the staff). The menu also includes dishes outside the Greek “mainstream” (Gyros...Souvlaki). Such as lamb or fish. The food is delicious... A visit is worth it.

Update 8/1/24: The prices are now simply too high. Unfortunately there was so little sauce on the plate that it wasn't enough for the meat. We also found it surprising that there was no tzatziki anywhere. That would have been very good for the gyro, but unfortunately it was also too salty. We won't be coming back for a while.🙁 The meat is always on point, the cassis sauce and the white wine sauce seem homemade and are rather light. The waiters are always very, very friendly and professionals. It's quick, nothing is forgotten or messed up (well-organized kitchen! Especially considering how crowded it always is) and you feel totally at home.

The food was delicious and the staff were very nice and friendly. Also suitable for wheelchair users or people with a walker, as there is also a ramp to the stairs. We really liked it there. Recommended.

Großer Laden, große Karte, große Portionen. Retro-Standards "griechischer" Gastronomie in Deutschland. Preise relativ niedrig, Qualität leider auch: Salat aus Krautsalat und Dosenmais mit zu schwerem Dressing. Pommes nicht knusprig, Zaziki zu schwer und quasi ohne Gurke... Der Service ist gut. Wer für relativ wenig Geld viel essen will und daran keinen besonderen Anspruch hat ist hier wahrscheinlich ganz gut aufgehoben. Mir hat das nicht gereicht. Weniger wäre mehr.

Unfortunately, the food was just average, the meat was sometimes tough, the spinach was a disaster, the ice cream portions were tasty, but too small. The service wasn't really nice, but the prices were so extremely high that we would never go there again.

In January I had ordered a table for two people at the C.L. Restaurant in Recklinghausen for Wednesday March 20, 24 and wanted to take part in the menu carousel. Unfortunately, I found myself standing in front of closed doors because the restaurant is closed on Wednesdays, which I wasn't told. So I went to Bacchus with my brother and had a nice evening. The food and service were great.

We recently stayed at Bacchus again and felt very comfortable, as always. The staff was friendly and the food was very good. Unfortunately, the prices have risen significantly and the portions have obviously become smaller. We understand the price increase due to the VAT increase, but unfortunately the fact that the portions are smaller at the same time is not so nice.

For me the best Greek restaurant in Marl. Food great, service great, not cheap. The atmosphere is more old-school Greek, which isn't really my thing, but if that doesn't bother you, you can have a nice meal here.

We were there last night and it will probably be the last time for the time being due to the rising prices and the smaller portions. The quality of the food was good as always.

The waitresses were super friendly and all orders were brought quickly. The food was very good in terms of taste and quality. The only drawback was the noise, we sat opposite the counter and therefore in a very small room with many guests, near the entrance. As a result, on the one hand, the volume was quite high due to the many guests in the room, as well as the newly arriving guests and the activities at the bar, and therefore unpleasant because it was disruptive during a conversation.

You can't really complain about the food, it tastes really good. However, the portions are relatively small for the prices, so you won't really feel full.

We used to be regular customers, but after the price increase after Corona, which was a bit excessive for me, we rarely eat there anymore. The price-performance ratio simply no longer fits. Luckily, there are several recommended Greek restaurants, especially in Gladbeck, that are not quite as expensive as Bacchos. The lamb dish I ordered was of good quality and also fried pink. My husband had grilled calamari (more like sepia). Everything was well grilled on the outside, but almost raw on the inside, which means grilled too hot. This can't happen at Kalamares. Unfortunately, after we mentioned this to the waiter, all we got was a succinct comment that the kitchen was probably in a bit of a hurry - not a word of apology. It's a shame you can't treat your guests like that.

Waren nach längerer Zeit wieder mal dort essen. Das Lamm war von guter Qualität, aber für die Menge fand ich den Preis von 34€ etwas überteuert. Mein Mann hatte Kalamaris vom Grill, der allerdings Sepia war. Von außen war es gut gegrillt, aber von innen fast roh, das heißt die Kalamaris waren zu heiß gegrillt worden. Dann kann er auch schnell zu zäh werden. Mein Mann merkte den Fehler nach dem Essen an. Der lapidare Kommentar des Kellners war dann nur: Da hatten sie es in der Küche wohl zu eilig. Mehr kam nicht- kein Wort der Entschuldigung. So kann man auf Dauer keine Gäste behandeln und halten. Wir waren früher Stammgäste, aber da mit Kritikpunkten gar nicht oder nur sehr unfreundlich umgegangen wird, werden wir wohl nur noch selten dort essen gehen. Zum Glück gibt es auch in Gladbeck gute griechische Restaurants.
