BaBa Sushi Restaurant in Düsseldorf

The food was good and the service friendly, but I don't think we'll be back. For a few reasons: - We were initially brought the wrong food, and my friend had to spit out a piece of sushi when the waitress took it back. - We were seated so close to the neighboring table that it felt more like a dinner for four than for two. - Cash only

Unfortunately, our visit to Ba Ba Sushi was disappointing overall. We had a reservation for 6:00 PM and were there as a couple. The table was set up quickly, but the tables for two are so close together that you're practically sitting with your neighbors – it's not particularly comfortable. The tables for four are much better positioned. The restaurant itself has a modern feel and is very busy, which is a good thing. Our order: • Deluxe Menu without Soup • 1 Miso Soup, 1 Sake Nigiri, 1 Maguro Nigiri, 1 Butterfish Nigiri, 1 Hamachi Nigiri, 8 Spicy Rolls • Kappa Maki • Spicy Roll (Crunchy Rolls) • Coke and Sprite The food arrived after a reasonable wait, and the taste was okay – solid, but nothing memorable. So that wasn't the problem. What really ruined the entire evening, however, was the service: • My companion's sushi platter was cleared away while I was still eating. • While I was finishing my last sip, the server was already standing by, ready to clear the table. • Shortly afterward, we were practically told to pay and leave. At 6:55 p.m., we had settled the bill—less than an hour's wait for what was supposed to be a relaxing dinner. Note to other guests: Payment is cash only. We knew this in advance, but many visitors might be surprised. Given the longer journey and the feeling of being "fed up," we won't be returning. Perhaps it was just a bad day for the staff, but a restaurant should make guests feel welcome.

A really great place for sushi beginners. The quality is good. The service is good. They lack the unusual ideas to stand out from the competition. The seating inside is better. Outside on the main street opposite the fire station, it's too noisy.

The food is very good, that has to be said without reservation. But even with a reservation, you end up waiting for more than 20 minutes outside the door or in the entrance area, directly behind other guests. This is simply poorly organized and spoils the anticipation of a pleasant evening. The tables are placed far too close together, the entire room feels cluttered, and as a result, it has a bit of a cafeteria feel.

Very cool place :) very tasty :) sushi is so fresh that it falls apart and it is impossible to take it with chopsticks 😂 Especially if you don't know how to use chopsticks :) My friend couldn't, and took it with his hands 😂 The atmosphere is good, there were a lot of people :) However, later they seated people very close to each other, when there were a lot of free seats by the end of the evening. The location is great :) there is a city parking lot not far from the establishment, a 5-minute walk away. We went in without a reserved table 🥰 In general, it was super-delicious 😎 I recommend it 🫶🏻😌

The restaurant is very nice, but I felt I didn't know what to order, so I called the employee to help us, but he was too stubborn to understand what I wanted. We ordered mixed tuna, salmon, and shrimp. Sushi. Vegetable wraps and vegetable salad. The food was more than delicious. But the restaurant doesn't have air conditioning, and the tables are very hot, especially in the summer. The employees are nice, helpful, and cheerful.

The food is incredibly delicious. Unfortunately, the service isn't great at all; you feel like you're being ignored. Ordering more drinks or making it known at the end that you want to pay is quite difficult. The restaurant itself is also quite loud when it's full. Despite reservations, there are seating issues. I had a reservation for two people and we were seated at a table for four, and then two strangers joined us. This was very disruptive and not a pleasant experience. We also had to pay in cash because card payments were apparently not accepted. Unfortunately, this wasn't mentioned anywhere on Instagram or during the reservation process.

Excellent sushi, we will always come back

We made a reservation for four people and went. We ordered a few sushi dishes, a chicken nugget, and a chicken rice dish. We were quite pleased with our meals. The cocktails weren't particularly impressive, and the alcohol content was low. Because people arrived without reservations and had formed a line, they didn't allow us to sit any longer, and they brought the bill without us even asking. It's a good option if you're just going to eat and leave, but it's not a place for extended seating.

I went to Baba Sushi over the weekend, and overall, the visit was good, but with a few drawbacks. The food is really delicious and freshly prepared. The selection is large, and there are many interesting combinations. If you like sushi, you'll definitely get your money's worth here. The ambiance is pleasant and modern, but the line was quite long when you arrived. You have to be patient, especially during peak hours. Service also takes a while. You can tell the staff is very busy. The employees are friendly, but everything moves a bit slowly. One real downside is the payment. You can only pay with cash or PayPal. Neither debit nor credit cards are accepted. That's outdated these days and will surely cause some frustration if you don't know about it beforehand. Nevertheless, if you're looking for good sushi and have a bit of time to spare, you'll find it here. I would go back, but only well prepared with cash in your pocket and a bit of patience.

Disappointing experience – despite the good sushi quality. I went to Baba Sushi with a friend on a Saturday evening at 7:00 p.m. Even though we had made a reservation well in advance, we had to wait outside – the entrance was overcrowded, and it was almost impossible to even get into the restaurant. We finally got a seat at a simple street table right by the road – not very cozy, noisy, and lacking any atmosphere. Inside, it was extremely crowded, very loud, and the tables were packed tightly together. The atmosphere was unfortunately chaotic. The service staff were completely overwhelmed, rushed around the room in a stressed manner, and even forgot to bring our backpack. Another negative point: There is no parking directly at the restaurant, and you can only pay in cash – that's really outdated these days. The sushi was delicious, though – that has to be said. If you really want to go there, you should choose a quieter weekday and be patient.

We had reserved a table and even sent an email in advance reminding us to be on time. Then we ended up standing in a long line with other reservationists, so we decided to go to the restaurant around the corner instead. What a shame.

Baba Sushi not only scores points with its creative, visually perfectly presented sushi compositions, but also with a consistently friendly and attentive team who welcomed us warmly. Despite our stroller, highchair, and other items, there was enough space – we were able to park the stroller comfortably to the side of the table, which isn't always the case when visiting with family. The sushi was fresh, boldly combined, and beautifully presented – a real treat for the eyes and palate. We especially liked the fact that our kids were catered to, and the atmosphere was both stylish and relaxed. A quick note: Only cash payments are accepted – something to be aware of in advance. A place that shows: sushi enjoyment is also possible with the family. We'll definitely be back!

Disappointing service and no understanding!! Two sushi options were entered twice in our order, even though we clearly stated what we wanted several times. The staff didn't admit the mistake – instead, we had to argue for 20 minutes and ended up paying double the price. The staff was unfriendly and completely unable to accept criticism. Unfortunately, it wasn't a pleasant experience. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone, and I wouldn't go there again myself.

Disastrous service. We explained three times and showed with our hands what we wanted to order. It was still entered incorrectly, and we ended up having to pay double the price because there were supposedly more sushi rolls on the plate. The discussion lasted almost 20 minutes because we didn't understand what we were paying, which was the waitress's fault! We were told it was our responsibility to recount. What?! We go out to eat to enjoy ourselves, not to count sushi rolls. Never again.

This is the absolute best sushi shop in North Rhine-Westphalia and the surrounding area! I've eaten a lot of sushi, but I'm always impressed by BaBa Sushi! The only thing that annoys me is the reservations... sometimes you wait 30-40 minutes even with a reservation... The staff is always super friendly! The sushi is freshly prepared and the fish is fresh. As you can see from the attached pictures and videos, I've been here several times and can summarize by saying that while it's more expensive and you have to wait a bit, the food and service are top-notch! There's no point in complaining about the prices, because, as I said, the fish is fresh and sushi is a luxury in general. There's no point in complaining. TOP-notch shop!

I don't understand the previous reviews; my experience was completely different. We arrived on time for our reservation and were seated right away. The atmosphere was very relaxed, and the service was excellent. Yes, it was quick, but that's only because the staff are very efficient. The food was exceptionally good, and you could taste how fresh it was. When I mentioned that it was my birthday, I was given a baked banana with ice cream and a candle. That was very thoughtful and nice. I'd rather have quick, attentive staff than have to wait forever for my order or food. Highly recommended

We shared a platter for two. Instead of a soup, we were able to choose a few more sushi pieces. I liked that. Overall, it was a bit overpriced, but we'll be back. And yes, reservations are a good idea.

Appetizers (gyoza + edamame) were good. The quality of the nigiri fish was questionable; it had a very firm bite. Crunchy rolls had no flavor; you could almost only taste the fat and the breading. The homemade lemonade was amazing! Service was a little disjointed, but otherwise very nice. Conclusion: I'd come back for the lemonade and the gyoza, but skip the sushi.

We tried sushi here and loved it! We ordered 1 inari, 1 avocado maki, 1 veggie IO, and 1 veggie crunchy for two people. We definitely recommend this combo. If you're hungrier, maybe order one more veggie crunchy—they were truly delicious. I also had the jasmine tea, and one pot is enough for three full cups. The service was friendly, and everything was brought out pretty quickly. Our inari were initially forgotten, but after we alerted a waitress, we received them in no time. The interior was also beautiful. We would definitely come back :)

Highly recommended for sushi lovers

Both the sushi and the curry are very good – my absolute favorite is number 223 Tori Crunchy. Unfortunately, you sit very close to your neighbors, and it can get loud. On our last visit, we were pressured to pay after 50 minutes, even though we had reserved a table for 1.5 hours. This unfortunately put a rather unpleasant end to the visit. Important to note: you should definitely reserve a table, and you can only pay in cash.

Five of us were here on a Saturday and had the large sushi platter with a few appetizers. My request for a light diet (I was having stomach problems at the time) was also taken into consideration. The kids devoured all the sushi and were stuffed. Apparently, it tasted really good, too. The staff were very friendly and attentive when ordering, and the price was reasonable for five people who all had their fill. We'd be happy to come back. Thank you.

The sushi was tasty but not earth-shatteringly better than other shops. That wouldn't have been a problem if you hadn't been treated like you were on an assembly line. Everything happened very quickly, which is generally a good thing, but just as quickly, with intrusive questions and observations, you got the feeling that you were no longer wanted and that you should leave now. When we finished eating, we were asked so many times within a very short space of time if we wanted anything else that we felt so unwelcome that we left within a little over an hour. So eat well. Service Good, but definitely not for Friday evening if you would like to sit with friends for a little longer (than 1 hour) and enjoy the evening.

The BaBa Sushi in Düsseldorf-Pempelfort really convinced me! The sushi selection is creative and fresh, especially the special rolls such as the “Fire Tuna Roll” or the colorful “Hangover Platter” were a real eye-catcher – both in terms of taste and appearance. The Vietnamese dishes also offer a great variety, especially for guests who don't just want sushi. The ambience is modern and stylish, with a nice Asian touch - the tatami seating in the back area in particular gives the whole thing an authentic flair. Service was friendly, although it can take a little longer during busy times. The prices are absolutely fair for the quality. A small point deduction for the sometimes longer waiting times - otherwise it would have been a 5-star experience. I'll definitely be back!

Perfect, everything is incredibly delicious. When you take the first bite of anything, you feel like you've already reached the highest level of pleasure when it comes to food. Then you try something else, and you discover a new level of deliciousness. Even the ginger is divine! The wasabi is the best I've ever had in my ENTIRE life. Even the still water tasted amazing. I'm actually always very satisfied, the price/performance ratio is great and the food is very tasty and of good quality. This week we had to leave again despite having a reservation because there was a huge queue and far too many reservations had been accepted, which was a shame.

Principle of reservations not understood

We were there on a Saturday evening and made a reservation for 8:30. There was already a long line in front of the store with people who had also made reservations. No attention is paid at all to who made the reservation, for when, and whether you made the reservation at all. They probably just accept every reservation so that you can come first. The food was delicious, but the ambience was so disturbing that I would rather go somewhere else given the large selection of restaurants. The tables are extremely close, it is extremely loud, the waiters are polite and friendly but so stressed that even as you eat, the food you wanted to eat is cleared away. Card payment is also not possible, you should then pay friends via Paypal?!

I had a reservation for 2 people that I had arranged 3 days in advance, but they said there was no free space and waiting would be of no use. Then they offered me a seat outside the restaurant, in a place that wasn't even next to the restaurant. I'm sorry but my girlfriend and I traveled 2 hours to eat there. Hello, I had an appointment at Babasushi at 8pm, but there was a long queue of about 30 people and even customers with appointments had to wait outside. This shows that appointment management is not effective and customer satisfaction is not a priority. Unfortunately I can't give more than one star.

Wow, highly recommended! I know another shop that can compete with the sushi, but it's in Wuppertal. All tables were full, so don't forget to reserve.

A huge mess with reservations, they need a better system & you need to flag the staff down. Food came quickly but they didn’t tell us what each roll was.

It's about sushi, but the owners are Vietnamese, which in my opinion doesn't detract from the quality of the sushi. I suspect every Japanese person sees it completely differently. For me, the flambéed sushi are the best, the seafood bowl with sashimi is also very tasty, I also think the classic Vietnamese coconut soup or the grilled salmon are very tasty. Attention, cash payment only.

We ate at BabaSushi today and unfortunately the quality of the dishes has deteriorated significantly. The hype is definitely no longer justified. My udon noodles had an unpleasant, burnt taste, as if they had been fried in a wok pan that was too hot. They were also way too salty. The sushi was okay, but not nearly as good as it used to be. I also had the impression that too many flavor enhancers were used in the dishes, which masked the natural taste. Overall we were disappointed and probably won't be back anytime soon. It's a shame, because BabaSushi used to be a real recommendation.

Standard, lecker aber nicht herausragend. Reservieren macht keinen Sinn, jeder wird platziert, wenn ein Tisch frei wird. Wir hatten für drei Personen reserviert, zwei Personen die nicht reserviert hatten, bekamen vor uns einen Platz. Der Service war ok, die Wartezeit für dieses volle Lokal völlig ok. Die Sushi's waren lecker aber nichts besonderes, um solchen einen Ansturm an einem Dienstag Abend zu rechtfertigen. Auffällig günstig war alles in allem jedoch, was auch positiv war.
