BaBa Sushi Restaurant in Düsseldorf

The sushi was delicious but overhyped. When the restaurant was full, it also got quite loud.

We followed the TikTok trend and ate at BaBa. It was worth it! I've been to many sushi restaurants, but the food here is from heaven. Simply DELICIOUS! We came back right before leaving Düsseldorf. The only downside: they only accept cash payments.

Everything was fresh and tasty, nothing to complain about in terms of price, even the price was only 10x better quality than in the commercial market. Drinks don't cost half a kidney like in other places so top 5/5 stars from me.

Perfect, everything is incredibly delicious. When you take the first bite of anything, you feel like you've already reached the highest level of pleasure when it comes to food. Then you try something else, and you discover a new level of deliciousness. Even the ginger is divine! The wasabi is the best I've ever had in my ENTIRE life. Even the still water tasted amazing. The portions are huge. Everything is simply excellent.

Yes, except that you are sent out after two hours and new customers are already lining up in front of the restaurant.

The food and service were great. The sushi was fresh, unusual, and the portions were generous. The curry was also very generous and delicious. Unfortunately, the ambiance only gets two stars because it was so loud and crowded. The tables were so close together that you would bump into someone sitting at the table as you walked past.

Despite having a reservation, we waited 40 minutes outside the door! People with reservations for a later time were given priority in the queue. Additionally, they (2 people) were seated at a table for four, while we (3 people) were forced to squeeze into a table for two! FAIR? The food arrived after 30 minutes. The tables are too close together, so you can hear conversations at the other table. Unfortunately, card payments are not accepted.

I'm actually always very satisfied, the price/performance ratio is great and the food is very tasty and of good quality. This week we had to leave again despite having a reservation because there was a huge queue and far too many reservations had been accepted, which was a shame.

Reserved - still 30m queue. Disaster and an absolute disgrace

We were there on a Saturday evening and made a reservation for 8:30. There was already a long line in front of the store with people who had also made reservations. No attention is paid at all to who made the reservation, for when, and whether you made the reservation at all. They probably just accept every reservation so that you can come first. The food was delicious, but the ambience was so disturbing that I would rather go somewhere else given the large selection of restaurants. The tables are extremely close, it is extremely loud, the waiters are polite and friendly but so stressed that even as you eat, the food you wanted to eat is cleared away. Card payment is also not possible, you should then pay friends via Paypal?!

I had a reservation for 2 people that I had arranged 3 days in advance, but they said there was no free space and waiting would be of no use. Then they offered me a seat outside the restaurant, in a place that wasn't even next to the restaurant. I'm sorry but my girlfriend and I traveled 2 hours to eat there. We don't think we will go again.

Principle of reservations not understood

You can't beat it for audacity! Take infinite reservations that cannot accommodate them. Even with a reservation, you have to wait more than an hour. Not recommended!

Hello, I had an appointment at Babasushi at 8pm, but there was a long queue of about 30 people and even customers with appointments had to wait outside. This shows that appointment management is not effective and customer satisfaction is not a priority. Unfortunately I can't give more than one star.

Wow, highly recommended! I know another shop that can compete with the sushi, but it's in Wuppertal. All tables were full, so don't forget to reserve.

It's about sushi, but the owners are Vietnamese, which in my opinion doesn't detract from the quality of the sushi. I suspect every Japanese person sees it completely differently. For me, the flambéed sushi are the best, the seafood bowl with sashimi is also very tasty, I also think the classic Vietnamese coconut soup or the grilled salmon are very tasty. Attention, cash payment only.

A huge mess with reservations, they need a better system & you need to flag the staff down. Food came quickly but they didn’t tell us what each roll was.

The food is very good, you have to say that clearly without any ifs and buts. But despite a reservation, you wait for more than 20 minutes in front of the door or in the entrance area directly behind other guests. This is simply poorly organized and takes away the anticipation of a lovely evening. The tables are placed much too closely together, the whole room seems cluttered and therefore has a bit of a canteen charm.

Food was okay so far. The service constantly wanted the empty plates and glasses to be passed over so that they didn't have to come to the table. Unfortunately it is very tight because the tables are quite close to each other, which is of course a bit uncomfortable.

Disappointing visit - Not worth a visit! Despite a confirmed reservation, we had to wait an unreasonably long time before we got our table. This is absolutely incomprehensible, especially if you reserve a table in advance. Unfortunately, the service wasn't much better - we even had to change our seats in the middle of the meal, which was just uncomfortable and annoying. We were promised an appetizer as compensation for the change of seat, but it never arrived. In addition, the atmosphere in the restaurant was quite hectic, which further negatively affected the entire evening. The sushi itself was good, but all the other inconveniences didn't make the visit worth it. We definitely won't be coming back.

We ate at BabaSushi today and unfortunately the quality of the dishes has deteriorated significantly. The hype is definitely no longer justified. My udon noodles had an unpleasant, burnt taste, as if they had been fried in a wok pan that was too hot. They were also way too salty. The sushi was okay, but not nearly as good as it used to be. I also had the impression that too many flavor enhancers were used in the dishes, which masked the natural taste. Overall we were disappointed and probably won't be back anytime soon. It's a shame, because BabaSushi used to be a real recommendation.

Standard, lecker aber nicht herausragend. Reservieren macht keinen Sinn, jeder wird platziert, wenn ein Tisch frei wird. Wir hatten für drei Personen reserviert, zwei Personen die nicht reserviert hatten, bekamen vor uns einen Platz. Der Service war ok, die Wartezeit für dieses volle Lokal völlig ok. Die Sushi's waren lecker aber nichts besonderes, um solchen einen Ansturm an einem Dienstag Abend zu rechtfertigen. Auffällig günstig war alles in allem jedoch, was auch positiv war.

We ordered the hangover platter to go with the miso soup. Simply delicious! And very nice people who work there. We asked for more ginger and the employee immediately realized that she had forgotten to pack more ginger. So she enthusiastically rushed back to make up for it. Super friendly. 😂👍 We'll be back, and we'll be happy to eat on site. Very nice atmosphere. 😊

Unique experience in Düsseldorf to eat sushi with very good value for money. We had a reservation and we still waited a little, but that's okay because the staff is very friendly and once we were seated, everything went very quickly despite being full. We ordered the best friend platte, it is varied with different types of sushi to try and everything was delicious. Of course, it is important to bring cash or have PayPal because they do not accept payment with cards. Highly recommended and looking forward to repeating!!!!

Despite having a reservation, we waited 25 minutes. The staff doesn't manage the arriving guests (all with reservations) at all, so those who are the boldest and loudest have to wait the least long. The food is delicious and the staff are generally polite, but unfortunately it has become unbearably crowded because the reservation system is clearly not working and accepting every single reservation request.

The sushi and main courses are really good and high quality. You don't get star cuisine, but you do get a very solid standard. The atmosphere is cozy (when it's not too crowded) and the service is nice. Unfortunately, to compensate for inflation, the prices were increased significantly and the portions shrunk somewhat, which is a shame and no longer makes the restaurant an absolute insider tip. In addition, card payments are still not possible in 2022.

We always enjoyed coming to Baba - the price/performance ratio was always great. Unfortunately, it has been happening more and more often lately that we reserve a table and then stand in a long line in front of the restaurant and can't get a seat because apparently double occupancy has been made. In addition, the tables are now so close together that the atmosphere suffers and you can't have a normal conversation without the table next to you overhearing.

The sushi at Baba Sushi is delicious and I used to love going there. Unfortunately, it now seems chaotic: tables are apparently reserved indefinitely, so you have to wait a long time despite having a reservation. If you sit near the door, the atmosphere suffers particularly badly - crowds of people crowd, the door is often open, and you are cold or have to eat with a jacket on. Even outside there are long queues. Everything now seems overcrowded and disorganized, which leaves the impression of greed for money. It's a shame, because the food was actually worth it.

We ate there today after hearing so many positive things about it. Waiters were pretty stressed and just wanted to get rid of you somehow. So that the next customers have space again. Food was forgotten and people still claimed that they had received it. Only after video evidence was it believed. Payment only in cash or Paypal. And the best thing was to pay via Paypal only through “family and friends”. We were definitely there for the first and last time. Too bad.

A small, cozy shop that was packed the last time I was there. Unfortunately there was no space inside so we had to sit outside, which almost felt like it was right on the street. However, the food itself was good, the fried sushis in particular are worth recommending - even for people who are not actually sushi fans. The staff was friendly and helpful, even if it was a bit hectic due to the crowds. Overall: You can definitely do it, especially if you want something different when it comes to sushi, all in a casual atmosphere...

Kudos to Baba Sushi – for probably the worst organization I have ever experienced in a restaurant. Today was the second time that I had a reservation and still didn't get a table. Apparently this is not an isolated case, because we stood together with around 30 other guests in the cold at 1°C and were asked why reservations were made here. The situation was particularly unpleasant for the couple who were friends and who were there with us - including their six-month-old baby, who also had to endure the cold. But sure, who needs warmth or seats when you can get a free lesson in patience and frustration instead? It's really impressive how a restaurant manages to disappoint so many people at the same time - and shows no signs of organization or accommodating. Reservations here seem to be purely fantasy products that are viewed as non-binding suggestions at best. It's clear to me: Baba Sushi is the perfect place - if you want to combine hunger, cold and a waste of time. However, if you value planning, service and respect for guests, you should avoid this store. I certainly won't come a third time.

Impudence! Never again Babasushi! We had a reservation and still stood outside for 45 minutes – WITH A SMALL CHILD! It was dry but cold and we asked to be let in several times. But the employees were indifferent, dismissive and unfriendly. Instead of even remotely finding a solution, we were ignored. At least 30 other people were waiting outside the restaurant - some of whom had been waiting for over an hour. The whole chaos shows that Babasushi has no organization and even less respect for his guests. Why accept reservations at all if you then leave your guests standing at the door? After 45 minutes we left. This restaurant will never see us again. Such treatment is simply outrageous and disrespectful!

We went there for the first time on a quiet evening and during the week and were quite happy with the food (despite the fairly high prices). After we had tomatoes on our order the last time we ordered online (and picked it up), despite the information that I had an allergy and I couldn't eat the food (had to put it in the trash!), we thought we'd give it another chance and come over on site. However, with a previous and confirmed reservation, having to stand in a meter-long queue and having to wait at least 20-30 minutes in zero temperatures for a reserved (!!) table is an absolute disgrace. We probably won't come back and won't recommend the restaurant.

Unfortunately, before we had finished drinking, we were asked if we would like anything else. When we said no, the bill came immediately so we had to leave the store. Because of the large crowds, it's understandable, but still impossible. If you're looking for delicious sushi, you've come to the right place! However, since I also want to feel comfortable and pay by card is important to me personally, this was my last visit there for the time being.

You should always reserve in advance. Sushi tastes really good and if you order well, you get something on the table. The staff are also friendly. You have to look for a parking space for a while.

Gut, aber chaotisch bezüglich Reservierung. Zum bestätigten Termin standen wir noch 30 Minuten draußen und 10 Minuten drinnen, bis wir einen Platz bekamen. Das ging nicht nur uns so. Gäste mit früheren Reservierungen wimurden gedrängt zu gehen. Das Essen war gut und den moderaten Preis mehr als wert. Service nicht besonders freundlich aber professionell.

The quality? 1A – Fresh, sophisticated and simply WOW. And the shop? So beautifully decorated that you almost forget why you came here in the first place (spoiler: for the sushi!). Small negative point: If you come as a couple, you often sit a bit cramped and hear more than you would like from the neighboring table. But hey, the taste and quality easily make up for it. Bottom line: 5 stars because taste is king here. Who needs space when the sushi rolls are so perfect? 😉

Alle Gerichte, die wir dort bestellt haben, haben sehr gut geschmeckt. Von Gyoza und Edamame über thailändisches Essen und Sushi ist das BaBa wirklich und zu recht in den TOP 10 der Sushi Läden in Düsseldorf. Ich selbst hatte Sushi. Überwiegend mit Thunfisch und Tamago. Sicherlich kann man die Sushis liebevoller herstellen. Die Qualität war aber excellent. Der Service, der in anderen Bewertungen erwähnt wird, war ebenfalls sehr gut. Wir saßen zunächst direkt an der Ausgangstür. Aber die Bedienung war sehr aufmerksam und hat uns den nächsten freien 4er Tisch gegeben, der erstens deutlich ruhiger und nicht so zugig war. Insgesamt war der Service immer gut und kam regelmäßig zu uns, um zu fragen, ob wir noch etwas wünschen. Das Ambiente kommt halt einer sehr geschäftigen Sushi Bar nahe. Im Vergleich haben aber Bars wie das Okinii und die Tokyo Lounge eine deutlich schlechtere Akustik. Im BaBa kann man sich noch in normaler Lautstärke unterhalten. Wir haben der Aufenthalt und das Essen dort sehr genossen. Sehr empfehlenswert!!

If you want to eat sushi, you can't miss Baba Sushi. Great selection, fresh and tasty. We always enjoy coming here, but tend to do so at less busy times. When it's full, it gets too loud for us personally. Still a clear recommendation

Good value for money and delicious sushi

If you want good sushi, you've come to the right place! Food doesn't take long and service is nice. I can only recommend :)

We were there for the first time on Sunday evening, with a reservation. We were told to come on time otherwise the table would be gone. We are then told that we have 90 minutes to eat. Definitely not. What I don't understand is why the reservation then? So things got off to a good start. When making a reservation we are told that payment can only be made in cash or via Paypal. Paypal? OK. Then we pay via Paypal to friends and family? Funny. Why can't you pay by debit card in a store like this? I'm not talking about a credit card. The store is too narrow, too crowded and it feels like there's always someone standing behind you. The food is great. The duck on my meal was very crispy. That's how I like it. However, the great food is negatively affected by many things. I think a rating between 3-4 is appropriate. Make up your own mind. Bring enough time and patience.

The duck in coconut milk with rice was very good and crispy. Unfortunately the salmon from the sushi was totally soft and partly liquid in consistency. The far dish was forgotten and arrived 40 minutes later. Drinks 15 minutes after each order.

We made a reservation at 8 p.m. and got a table at 8:40 p.m. in the extremely full and therefore uncomfortable restaurant. While we were waiting at the entrance to the restaurant, no one actively came up to us and asked about our reservation. We weren't the only ones. The crowd of people in the aisles right next to the tables was not pleasant for the guests in the restaurant. The food was very tasty and came quickly. However, the restaurant should consider not accepting reservations if none of the employees are interested.

We really enjoyed coming to eat sushi and were always very satisfied. Last time we wanted to try the chicken curry. Unfortunately it arrived so spicy that we couldn't eat it (even though we love spicy food very well). When we asked service if they could make it less spicy or stretch it differently so we could eat it, they immediately refused. Even when we asked in the kitchen, they said: Either we would eat it as is or we should leave it alone. We had to pay for the food we didn't eat (because it was so extremely spicy that we couldn't eat it) and left the store hungry. It's a real shame that no effort was made to accommodate us in any way. Unfortunately, we will no longer visit Baba Sushi.

We had reservations at 7:30 p.m., as did another 30 people. We stood outside the door with them for 45 minutes, then inside and waited for free tables. Unfortunately bad organization. The sushi and curry were tasty and the service was polite and the wait time for the food was reasonable.

Delicious. Great Japanese authentic service. A reservation in advance is mandatory and the maximum stay is 2 hours, which is a bit of a shame, but understandable because the queue outside was long ;) we were there on Friday evening.

The place looks very chic and inviting. The employees were consistently friendly, quick and attentive. The food was a solid 5/5! We had crunchy rolls and baked bananas. Both were perfectly cooked/prepared. Clear recommendation.

I had a table reservation for 7 p.m. Nevertheless, I and many other people (also with reservations) had to wait at least half an hour. The restaurant overbooks the tables. It's extremely crowded and loud inside. You can't sit there comfortably; Because the next people in line are already waiting for a free table. Even if the food is delicious, I don't go there anymore. Pure mass processing. There are significantly better restaurants in the same price segment.

A great authentic shop with very nice employees. We tried different things here and everything tasted very good. Everything very fresh and clean. We would love to come here again.

It's a nice sushi place that had decent food at great prices. The sushi was nice, though don't expect the most amazing experience in your life. The ambience was nice, relaxing despite restaurant being busy. Staff were very polite and the food arrived very quickly. Generally, a place that's worth a visit if you're looking for some Japanese food. Also, Katsu Curry portion was massive! So be warned :)
