Athen-Palast in Hamburg

This Greek restaurant reminds me of the few restaurant visits I had as a child in the 90s. The food is very good, the portions are large, and exactly what you'd expect from a classic Greek restaurant. A truly excellent experience. The staff is attentive and friendly, and they even offer complimentary ouzo. In this age of oversaturated options, I'm truly grateful for small, authentic places like this.

Unfortunately, it wasn't what I expected. I ordered the Hermes platter, but there wasn't much on the plate. You could count the pieces of gyros. The two pieces of meat were just small strips. It was probably because so many people ordered at once.

The price-performance ratio is so-so. Portions are large for my taste. Somewhat rustic interior.

The food in the restaurant is truly delicious, the portions are generous and typically Greek. I especially like the fact that you get ouzo both before and after your meal – a lovely gesture! 🍽️🇬🇷 The service is very friendly, and the ambiance fits perfectly with the overall atmosphere. One small criticism: The prices listed on the menu outside unfortunately don't match the actual prices in the restaurant – it's more expensive inside. This should definitely be adjusted so that guests know what they're getting.

We go there regularly and it is consistently good

Update 1/25 Of course, the prices have gone up a bit, but the portions are so generous that everyone will be well fed. We also enjoy the lunch menu. The service is fast and friendly, the selection is extensive, the kitchen is quick, and the food is very plentiful and tasty. Excellent value for money. The only downside is that the terrace is right next to a busy four-lane road, but unfortunately, the restaurant can't do anything about that. Update 1/23: The restaurant was packed for lunch, which speaks volumes about its popularity 👏. Once again, we were impressed by the friendliness, speed, delicious food, and reasonable prices, appropriate for the Jenfeld area. We'll be back very soon 🥰

Always a delight, a salad to start with, followed by the liver with baked potato, sour cream, and tzatziki, very tasty. The new, large, modern awning across the entire terrace is absolutely wonderful. No more obstacles from large umbrellas getting in the way, very nice. The Athens Palace has now become one of our regular restaurants, and we enjoy coming here regularly. As so often and regularly, another very pleasant evening with four people at the Greek Athens Palace at Rodigallee 294 in Hamburg-Jenfeld. The food was once again delicious, and the service, as usual, very friendly and attentive. Visited the Grill Athens Palace for dinner. We had the "Cold Platter (for one person) with coleslaw, tarama, tirokafteri, feta cheese, olives, pepperoni, cucumber, tomatoes, tzatziki, and stuffed vine leaves," which was enough for two people. Then we had my favorite dish: delicious broad beans in tomato sauce topped with feta cheese. The team at the Grill Athens Palace was very friendly and attentive, pampering us with a selection of Greek specialties and select wines.

The service and food are top-notch. However, the place is a better snack bar. Still, highly recommended. Good gyros and good fries.

One of the few Greek restaurants that also serves lunch. The selection is very good at lunchtime, and the prices are reasonable. If you're really hungry, you can add a gyro for €3.90!

We stopped here on the spur of the moment on the way home from the highway. Lovely outdoor terrace, parking behind the building. Very friendly staff. We had two small gyros with fries and a delicious salad to start. The gyros were by no means small, and we gave up after half (sadly, I forgot to take a photo). Everything was delicious, including the ouzo on the house. We highly recommend it.

Very tasty food and always sufficient portions. No matter whether in large groups or just two people. The food and drinks arrive quickly. The service is very good, nice, friendly and accommodating. Ambience is always a matter of taste, personally a bit too much decoration for me, but otherwise very good.

We went to this restaurant for the first time. The reservation could be made reliably over the Internet. Fast service on site and accommodating our requests. We enjoyed the food and, above all, everything was warm and well prepared. The tables are a bit cramped, but you can move around or sit on the terrace if the weather is good. We'd love to come back.

For me this is the best Greek restaurant. You get good food and you will definitely be full. The rotisserie can be seen openly in the restaurant. Real meat is used there and not “something” mixed with minced meat. When you sit in a restaurant, the smell of the food can get onto your clothes, but that doesn't bother me. The service is nice and friendly. You are often offered a stomach warmer that you don't have to pay for. You wait about 20 to 30 minutes for the food, which is normal as it is freshly prepared. You can eat outside in summer, but that's where the busy main road is. Doesn't bother me either. What more could you want? Lots of good food for a good price. Drinking is good too. I find it comfortable there. I would like to thank everyone who works there. You are great 👍 That's why I'm there more often 😎

Unfortunately the souvlaki skewer wasn't cooked through at all. The fries were limp and far too little for the price. The gyro was also cold and meant that you had to go to the toilet after the meal. Unfortunately a total failure

Mit Freunden waren wir dort, der Wirt versuchte, den Stuhl meiner Frau zu entfernen. In der Zeit, wo diese zur Toilette ging mit der Begründung, er braucht den Stuhl das wurde von unserer Freundin verhindert, die mit an dem Tisch aus es gab seitens des Gastwirtes keinerlei Entschuldigung, was für ein erbärmlich Wicht. Ich kann nur jedem, der dieses Lokal gerne besuchen möchte davon abraten. Geht da nicht hin das hat nichts mit griechischer Gastfreundschaft zu tun. Das ist einfach nur dumm.

It was great because on our last visit we also had Greeks (from Rhodes) with us. It was funny to see how people talked there in Greek style. The food was, as always, excellent. It was a really nice evening there.

We were warmly welcomed and served with a smile by the service. The food was a culinary delight. From the salad to the main course, wonderful Prepared, the portion size is huge and the taste is a delight with freshness and love down to the smallest detail. We recommend this restaurant with a smile and a well-sated feeling of well-being. Thanks to this restaurant :) We will 100% come back. Smallest note, a bit of order in front of the entrance, then it would be perfect! (decorative cooking away, neon signs on the street, and the accessories table for the smokers in order) even in this cold season 😉 please take it with a smile.

Been here for the first time and definitely not the last, very friendly staff, the food was A1, the rump steak was perfect and terrific, can only recommend it.

Nice, authentically decorated restaurant with very friendly staff. The food is sumptuous at good prices. The garlic cream sauce for the baked gyros was definitely homemade and the French fries were beautifully crispy. Went there for the first time and will definitely go again when we're in the area.

Food was ok, the fries were borderline underdone, the kitchen was unfortunately inflexible, it wasn't possible to order gyros with (only) lamb souflaki. But the service was simply bad, the waitress was stroppy and unfortunately no waitresses were seen after the meal to order anything else to drink. The ambience was lovely.

Super great family and delicious food

It has been my favorite Greek for years. There is now a different owner and the atmosphere is no longer as warm. Nonetheless, the food is very good.

EDIT 2024 Well, we came here again after four years, and that's how it turned out. Well, I must say that I am cured of this Restaurant for the next ten years. However, it wasn't for me, the portions were smaller (I don't have a problem with that here), but the food itself, the gyros was dry and the meat itself was strange. The fries are dry, small and hard. I'm leaving three stars because other people might like it, but unfortunately I don't. ------------------------------------------------- -------------------- 2020 When our favorite Greek restaurant was closed, we started coming here for about two years, and everything was great, but the last three times something went wrong. I'll give it one more chance, then I'll look for a new Greek. I won't go into detail about the decor, everyone can judge for themselves.

We were here with a group of several people. At the entrance we were greeted by the waitress with the somewhat abrupt question: “Have you made a reservation?” Well, we had that. The restaurant has a really nice atmosphere, a fairly extensive menu and we each got a large portion on our plates. So far so good. Unfortunately, the Bifteki was clearly too dark, while the Gyros was too soft and unfortunately also had a few nubby pieces in between. Saganaki as a starter partly decorated, partly naked and carelessly served on the plate. Longer than average waiting time for the main course. Some dishes were missing a side dish mentioned on the menu. When we commented on this while eating, the boss said that you should ultimately be satisfied based on the amount on your plate. This was done in a tone that was completely inappropriate for the situation. Now at the latest, the feeling that had been slowly rising in us that we were not welcome here as guests was confirmed. With that, we left the rest of the meals. We will therefore look for Greek hospitality elsewhere in the area in the future and find it there.

Today I was there with my family and was very disappointed, orders were forgotten, the food took forever, then we got food that wasn't what it was on the menu and when we told the boss, we got a stupid one and disrespectful answer. We have never experienced anything like this, this restaurant was the last time we saw it.

During today's visit with the family, we were told in a very unfriendly manner that we couldn't eat outside when it was almost 30 degrees because he could only serve us inside. Fast service with orders and drinks. Waited a little longer for the food. But at lunchtime, due to the cheap lunch menu, still reasonable. Plentiful, large portions. I had the Bifteki, which was deliciously seasoned, grilled to perfection and weighed 400g when raw. We were all full, we couldn't fit anything else.

A Greek restaurant run by Indians! The atmosphere is getting old, it needs to be renovated! Unfortunately we had to wait 41 minutes for the food. Our food was okay, the meat was grilled to perfection, the zatziki tasted good, the salad was a bit small, the rice was okay, the drinks were very good! The taste of the starter didn't live up to our expectations. The ouzo is lower quality, could be better. Price performance ok!

Since we visited the restaurant shortly before 3:00 p.m., we were served the delicious Giros with fries very quickly. We were given a fresh salad plate beforehand. We were satisfied with the service and the food. Due to the change of ownership, only the portion has changed. At least sufficient for a hard-working professional. The food was delicious and the tzatziki was really excellent. However, you should reserve a place in advance.

Kurz und knapp, wir haben unseren Aufenthalt hier sehr genossen. Nette und schnelle Bedienung, zum Mittagstisch eine Portion, die satt macht und alles zu einem günstigen Preis.

We reserved a table there for 10 people and it was a disaster. The tables were far too small, there was no space on the table at all and we only had 3 plates. The waiter gave us mini breakfast plates to eat. Everything was carelessly arranged. In the end everything was cleared away pretty quickly, although some were still eating, everyone had the feeling that they wanted to get rid of us quickly. I can only advise against celebrating birthdays etc. there.

The lunch of gyros in garlic cream sauce was amazing.

Actually, we were always satisfied, but today our food was hardly edible. The gyro was burnt. The salad was poorly seasoned and the chicken soup was watery and a really outrageous mini portion for €4.50. The souvlaki and pepperoni were good. Still a shame. I was used to something different from this restaurant. Unfortunately it has worn off.

Food good and plentiful and cheap, but service could be optimized and a poor exhaust system, you smell extremely bad when you go home.

Hatte eine Platte für 2 Personen bestellt. Habe 2 Platten für je eine Person bekommen und mich dumm und dämlich bezahlt... War zwar lecker aber nicht das was ich mir vorgestellt habe.

Das Fleisch hat gut geschmeckt und war auch sehr gut angebraten. Doch leider verdirbt die Wartezeit den ganzen Spaß. Wir haben fast 1 Stunde lang auf unser Essen gewartet, zwar wurde uns das Salat und die Cola am Anfang gebracht, aber bis die Hauptspeise ankam, waren wir schon außer Laune, ohne Salat und ohne Cola. Einer von uns wollte nur Krautsalat, doch bekam am Ende doch einen normalen Bauernsalat. Daraufhin haben wir den Chef aufmerksam gemacht und meinem Kumpel wurde Krautsalat gebracht, doch für diese drei Gabeln Portion Salat hat er uns weitere 5€ auf die Rechnung gepackt(Frechheit). Die Preise sind nicht wirklich Ulala und die Bedienung war auch ziemlich genervt und man hat das Gefühl, dass die Deutsche Sprache dort nicht so ganz verstanden wird von den Mitarbeitern. Parkplatz ist auch kein Problem.! Es gibt auf jeden Fall bessere Griechen hier in Hamburg.
