AROMA Vietnamese Kitchen & Sushi Bar in Essen

Birthday dinner with owner planned months in advance. Table reserved for 17 people. Checked again 5 hours earlier to see if everything was OK. Then the disaster on my 60th birthday. The first starter came pretty quickly and then 2 hours!! Waited for the rest of the (pre-ordered) menu. 3 guests left early on my birthday. The owner's handling of the impossible situation was unsatisfactory. We were very good customers. That has now been resolved.

It deserves a Michelin star!! The best restaurant I've ever eaten at! I can recommend it to everyone who likes Asian cuisine! Don't miss it if you're there! 🙂

We were there both privately and on business (with over 30 people). The food was always very tasty and everything was beautifully prepared. The service is also friendly. You can't describe the boss, you have to experience her. 🥰☺️

Very nice place, pleasant and warm atmosphere! Tried Vietnamese cuisine for the first time and BOMB!!! Never had sushi before, but it was so delicious!! There is an extra menu for vegetarian dishes! Very nice and friendly staff, recommend and explain in detail. Very short waiting time, the food was served quickly, nice and warm. Again and again!!

We were there for the first time today. It wasn't very crowded since we had lunch on Sunday I think. Very friendly service who gave us very good advice. It wasn't loud, but rather pleasant. We felt very comfortable there and will come back. The food was very tasty and requests were catered for. The portions weren't too big. Parking was possible in front of the door. During the week with a parking ticket. We really liked it.

Not recommended. It's very, very loud, warm and stuffy inside. There is no cozy atmosphere and no normal conversations are possible. The food isn't good either. Shortly afterwards I had stomach problems… Prices are also very competitive. I would give zero stars if possible. No recommendation from me.

Excellent food, nice location, varied menu. and a very warm owner. I especially recommend sitting outside in the sun in the summer and having a Vietnamese beer for lunch. From there, very suitable for eating during your lunch break or in the evening.

All dishes were very tasty. Absolutely recommended. Very friendly service. The only drawback is the quite noisy environment in the restaurant.

Went there for the second time and were very happy with the food, service and ambience both times. We can highly recommend the udon curry! The sushi and the wok dish with peanut sauce were also very tasty. We'll definitely be back. ❤️

Unfortunately the quality dropped after the move. Very nice owners but after the expansion the taste was no longer the same and due to the expansion it no longer looks as cozy. Likewise, the food is significantly more expensive with a reduction in quality.

I went there for the first time on the recommendation of a friend and was really impressed. The atmosphere is very pleasant, the employees are consistently friendly and accommodating. The owner is also very, very nice and friendly - she has her shop under control. The food was outstanding! All in one 5 stars and definitely recommended!

Best Vietnamese restaurant in Essen!

Danger! Here the waiter threatens to hit you! When an employee says to the guest "come outside, we'll sort this out immediately" - then you know what crazy shop you've ended up in. Then in a case like this you ask for the boss and two people pretend to be bosses who aren't. It's a shame, I enjoyed the food and it was my second time there. But employees who don't understand German well, are incompetent and then "freak out" in front of all the guests... in such a case you can close the shop straight away. Now I didn't want to call the police and make things even bigger... but the store and especially the employees deserved the report. Unfortunately, we still don't know who the boss is. Unbelievable what happened there!

We loved our visit! Everything we ordered – the coconut soup, pho, udon noodles, the rice and shrimp children's menu, and the sushi maki – was absolutely delicious. You can taste the freshness in every dish and everything was excellently prepared. There is also a lot to offer visually: the dishes are beautifully prepared, which makes eating a real experience. The staff was also super friendly and took great care of us. An all-round perfect restaurant that we can highly recommend. We'll definitely be back!

We are fans of Vietnamese food and this place definitely surprised us. The food was exquisite, the menu was extensive and diverse, the place was very authentic and welcoming. I went with my wife and we loved it. We will definitely return.

I had a great visit to this Vietnamese restaurant! The spontaneous reservation went smoothly and the food was really delicious. The portions were optimal and I felt well served. The atmosphere in the restaurant was also pleasant and inviting. I can only recommend it and look forward to my next visit!

Always my pleasure! The food is great, good value for money, you don't have to wait long, nice staff, clean. I am always satisfied and I have recommended the restaurant to everyone. No matter whether it was sushi, duck, udon noodles, soup - everything was always delicious 😋 There wasn't that much choice in terms of non-alcoholic drinks and dessert, but you can't do everything.

Went there for the first time today. The food was extremely good, the service was very attentive and extremely friendly. The price-performance ratio is reasonable. This was definitely not our last visit to this restaurant.

Delicious food and very friendly service. Prices are a little more expensive but at least we were full. We ordered 1x starter, 2x tea, a main course & 3 sushi rolls. We then paid €70 for that.

Essen’s better established, busy Asian restaurant near the train station Essen. My visit was welcomed with almost a full house! Food selection is extensive. Vietnamese noodles- Pho, Bon… Japanese food options- sushi, sashimi & rolls. My dish was served quick & very tasty! I would recommend any hungry travelers to give it a try if Asian food is what you are craving for!

We waited over an hour for sushi. Sushi is very small and not tasty. I don't recommend it. Pina Colada is too sour.

Got to enjoy this restaurant’s food several times a few days ago, at lunch and dinner time. The salmon nigiri sushis were perfect, tasted really good, and the noodles were also amazing, smelled like authentic Vietnamese food. (Writing this review makes me very hungry and now I want to order from them again right now btw.) Their menu is impressive and offers a variety of vegan and vegetarian options, too. Everything is freshly cooked, and the presentation is always beautiful, with great care put in small details. The staff is friendly and helpful. I also appreciated the fact they accept card payments, which isn’t that common among Vietnamese restaurants in Germany. Would be happy to come back anytime!

Unfortunately only one star. After exceptional service and truly delicious food, I discovered that allergen management is not taken seriously. The vegan dish obviously contained dairy products, which led to unpleasant consequences for someone with a milk protein intolerance.

We decided to eat here for the first time today at the start of the holiday. Lunch has a great menu, but all other dishes could also be ordered. Good portions, deliciously seasoned and very friendly staff. We will definitely come back, recommended!

I was there for my birthday with my family, the food was really great, even as a vegan I had a great selection and the people there were super accommodating and nice, they even put on music for my birthday and gave me a dessert on the house. I would definitely recommend it.

Great Vietnamese and Japanese cuisine!

The food was absolutely top class. The sushi variations were fresh, visually appealing and tasted on a different level. Each roll was perfectly prepared, from the choice of ingredients to the presentation. Particularly noteworthy are the creative sauces and the harmonious balance of flavors. Overall, it was an excellent evening all around. This restaurant is definitely a must for any sushi lover!

The seating is great both inside and outside and the food is fabulous.

We visited the restaurant based on a recommendation and unfortunately our expectations were not met. Sushi was very bland and had little taste despite the sauces. The sushi is unlike other restaurants very small, which we were very surprised about. So I don't think the prices are justified. The ambience was otherwise nice but unfortunately that was the only real shame.

I had around 30 min to catch my train 🚂 to go back home. Due to the long road I decided to take the meal to go in Aroma place. The location is nice, around 4 min close to the Essen Hbf. The staff is friendly. They prepared the meal fast - so I was able to calmly catch my train. The meal was warm and nice packed 🫰⭐ thank you 🌞

I was there with a friend, the food was great, came extremely quickly, as did the drinks. Everything tippi toppi, good value for money and a large vegetarian selection, I think there were also a few vegan options :)

Competent, friendly staff. I had crispy duck with fried glass noodles. Best duck meal I've had in years - same with the sushi. Top! Next year GAME - next year aroma. 👍

A really nicely decorated restaurant. We were really pleasantly surprised by the portion size of the udon noodles for €13.90! The sauce is incredibly delicious and the sushi is fresh and buttery. An absolute recommendation!

An inconspicuous looking restaurant that deserves more attention. I would love to give it 6 stars! A small but modern restaurant, located near Essen city center. Our food arrived quickly and was simply fantastic. Fresh ingredients, tasty and well served. Familiar, modern and, above all, pleasant atmosphere. Friendly, attentive staff. You can see that quality is very important here. The restaurant will also soon be expanding to another location. All in all, a great price-performance ratio and we can only recommend it. An absolute highlight in Essen 3 minutes. Behind the main train station, a real firework of flavors awaits the palate. This restaurant deserves its name and even shortly before closing time everything was still very fresh and extremely tasty. A must if you want to eat out in Essen.

SUPERDUPER RESTAURANT JUST BRILLIANT

A wide range of meat, vegetarian or vegan dishes. The food (veg curry with duck, mango salad and dumpling appetizer) was excellent and definitely in the league of the best Vietnamese restaurants in Essen. The service was very friendly and always very attentive. Overall, I am thrilled with this restaurant! Definitely an address that you can only recommend. Thank you for letting me eat here.

I didn't know that you could eat so close to the original Asian cuisine in Germany. The combination of spices is a holiday treat. I'm traveling all over Germany for work and haven't found it in terms of quality yet. The many guests in the restaurant during the week have already announced that the food is good.

Update 2024: Still incredibly good food. Very tasty food with attention to detail: lettuce cut very finely, meat well draped, rice decorated with sesame etc., a bit of crunch on top. Food was ready for pickup in 7 minutes and the price was completely ok.

There were 8 of us there and everyone had different food. Everyone enjoyed it very much. Also beautifully presented to the eye. The staff is consistently friendly. And when Lily comes to the table, not a single eye stays dry. Very warm person.

Always fresh, always delicious, large selection of Asian dishes - including sushi. The long opening times and the fact that it is open on Mondays are another plus.

We picked up some ToGo. Very nice service, everything went quickly and friendly. The food was also super delicious - only one star deducted because I ordered without fresh coriander as a garnish, but unfortunately it was on at least one dish.
