Argo in Esslingen am Neckar

There were six of us. We had reserved a table. We were greeted very warmly and served by a lovely lady who gave us excellent recommendations for all the delicious appetizers, wine, and dessert. Everything was delicious. A truly wonderful experience. 👍👍👍👍👍

Very disappointing. We were a group of 15 people, the dishes arrived very late, were cold, and didn't match what the menu promised. When we asked about it, the waitstaff was very unfriendly and rude. Very unprofessional.

We'd been to Argo several times before and knew its quality. Last Sunday, we invited relatives over, who wondered why we were going all the way to Esslingen "to go to a Greek restaurant." After that, they understood.

I ate there with my sister. We only had appetizers 😋 Everything was delicious. The service was good.

I'm not German, neither of the 4 of us, but my daughter and son-in-law live here, in Stuttgart, and I've been a truck driver all my life, so I've eaten in many places, perhaps more than many of the people who criticize it negatively. The first thing is that everything is relative, obviously each person is unique and truck drivers have a reputation for eating like animals, but I consider myself a person and as such. I like good food and almost everything. That said, I liked this restaurant: the location, the food, the atmosphere, and the service (maybe it's because we were liked). We ordered lunch for 4 PEOPLE, the service was very good (especially the waitress who served us) and we left quite satisfied. The price was in line with what we ordered. (Obviously everything is a little more expensive now) For me, a 4.5 out of 5. Bye.

Wonderful dishes, top wines, good advice

I was surprised by the food, considering the selection for a Greek restaurant. I missed the gyros, but this was compensated for by other dishes, which were excellent. I don't think I've seen any pork dishes on the menu. There are also plenty of meatless dishes. Service was a bit uncoordinated, but otherwise excellent.

This was the first time I've ever enjoyed authentic Greek cuisine in Germany! Anyone who is enthusiastic about Greek cuisine or wants to experience what Greek food is like is in the right place! Thank you for this wonderful experience, and I will definitely be back. The 1.5-hour drive is worth it!

Hello, The five of us – my three sisters, my niece, and I – dined at your restaurant. From the reception to the service and food, everything was unfortunately unsatisfactory. The greeting was unfriendly, and overall, we were treated in an unprofessional manner, which made the evening very unpleasant. The food also didn't meet our expectations: the fish and the appetizers were disappointing. Overall, we were very disappointed with the quality and service. We hope you will improve the points mentioned so that future guests have a better experience.

As always, the food is very 👍🏻 There are also plenty of options for vegetarians, unless you're very sensitive and can't eat everything.

Highly recommended! Not an Olympia/Zeus platter with tons of meat, but very authentic Greek cuisine. The cold and warm appetizers are unbeatable. Service is friendly and attentive – one star less for service because twice an appetizer arrived with the main course. But that certainly doesn't detract from the absolute recommendation for a visit to Argo!

The food was simply outstanding. Everything was homemade, lovingly prepared, and absolutely delicious. I was particularly impressed by the freshness of the ingredients and the fact that the dishes weren't drenched in fat, as is unfortunately often the case. What makes it all even better: the price! Compared to well-known chains or hyped restaurants in the area, this place is a real insider tip. You can tell: This isn't about fancy stuff, but rather authentic, traditional food at fair prices.

Beautifully located on the Neckar Island, ARGO is an authentic Greek restaurant that you don't find very often. There's no Acropolis plate or anything like that here, so the run-of-the-mill customers who have the usual Greek restaurant around the corner will be disappointed... There's a really good selection of different starters and main courses that taste very good and authentic! Rounded off by a great wine selection and expert advice. The service is also very attentive. We're looking forward to our next visit. We'll bring a little more time and make a reservation in advance to have more time for the main courses. 😁

Village salad with mushy tomatoes, bifteki with dry burnt meat. The review wasn't received positively. The food was just above fast food level.

Children don't seem to be welcome here. Such callousness towards children from the waitress has never occurred before in any restaurant.

Hostile to small children - Arrogant - Mediocre After a lovely afternoon at the zoo, we as a family with 2 boys (1 & 2.5) had dinner there. From the beginning the waiters looked at us disparagingly, the food was unfortunately mediocre and cannot be recommended - that's just a side note. While we were “packing up” a waiter came and inspected our place! Since there was ice cream for dessert, something got on the floor, yes (parents you know what I mean), while I was still getting dressed the waiter asked me what it was and when he heard the word ice cream he said: It's unbelievable that you don't have your children under control and the cleaning lady costs more, like your visit brought in and we should never come back...... normally I roughly clean things like that up at the end but not like this. Never in my life have we been welcomed so unfriendly and treated so poorly as in this restaurant. This deserves the title of the most toddler-unfriendly restaurant in the state. I can only advise all families with small children up to 6 to avoid the restaurant, as the hostility to children is displayed in public and is also addressed when things don't go perfectly. Never ever again and definitely not recommended!!!!

Generally speaking, the food tastes good, We had an al you can eat meal brought to the table. Unfortunately, there were usually too few, for example 9 mushrooms were served to 15 people and the same was true for the other dishes. After a loud comment: "Maybe we'll get another plate of mushrooms" there was no reaction, but maybe it went under. At least more bread was brought "extra fresh from the oven" when requested. The accompaniments to the bread were very tasty. However, the price is rather expensive for what you get at the table.

A little out of the way but very tasty food and a variety to choose from. A place where gyros are not always included with the meal 😉

Staff friendly and nice, both brothers owners I can say, "Hats off to everyone, Argonauts, always in a good mood and everything is fine, actually a nice and good atmosphere. Probably the best Greek food I've had in Germany so far. Prices are a little higher than average but TOP quality. It wasn't the last time we were guests there.

The Argo offers fantastic Greek cuisine, which stands out from other Greek restaurants primarily because of the variety of side dishes and also has a little more to offer on the menu than the run-of-the-mill dishes that you are familiar with. I've eaten here 4-5 times on the cozy terrace and have been very happy with the bifteki, souvlaki, calamari, octopus and the like. Not cheap, but absolutely worth it! :)

We chose it because we love Greek food, but we were completely disappointed. Portions are small for the price. The taste was far below our expectations. We were kept waiting too long at every stage. After ordering, it took over 45 minutes for the food to arrive. The meals we chose were not something that would take a long time to cook, and there were not too many people. At the end of the meal, we asked for the check and waited for about 20 minutes for them to get the bill. I don't think we will go again or take our guests.

We have rarely felt so unwelcome and uncomfortable in a restaurant. Very poor and slow service (we waited almost an hour for the main course) even though there were very few guests there. To pay you have to go to the checkout and then have to justify why you want to see the receipt. The food was okay, but nothing special. Won't come here anymore and won't bring any friends with us.

By pure chance, I discovered this Greek restaurant with my girlfriend. The only one that was open on a Saturday during the high summer holidays. Simply great, very good food, great menu, very attentive and friendly staff, great terrace with retractable cover, large interior. Highly recommended 👍⭐

Authentic Greek cuisine...if you want to try it out, just order a few mezzes and enjoy them together. Not a typical gyros Greek but really very good, authentic cuisine from the starter to the main course to dessert. No frozen products but fresh goods. That's why it can sometimes happen that something goes wrong. And don't forget to reserve a table. ;)

ARGO will probably be our first choice if we want to eat Greek. We were greeted very warmly, the service was consistently friendly and attentive. There is a very large selection especially of mezze, i.e. starters. Everyone should find what they are looking for here. All dishes ordered were served at the same time with a short waiting time. Everything was freshly prepared, homemade and tasted convincing. Finally, a dessert where even the ice cream is homemade. Perfect. For the freshness on offer and because everything is homemade, the prices are acceptable. We'll definitely be back. Reservations are strongly recommended.

I ordered calamari (Kalamaria Gemista) as my main course. However, the portion size was too small. After checking Google Photos and reviews, I found that the same dish is usually served with a larger portion of calamari as stated in the menu. However, for the same price (€23) of the main course, I was served less than half the main portion. Avoid this place!

If you like to be treated like dirt and like mediocre food in small portions at a great price, this is the place for you. We made reservations as a small group and were warmly welcomed. We sat at a table for 4 and a table for 1 that were pushed together to provide enough space. We ordered and suddenly an older gentleman (I assume the owner) came and told us he needed our table for another group with one more person. Half the terrace was empty and there were enough individual tables to complement the other group's table. But he insisted on taking ours. We didn't want this because otherwise one person wouldn't even have had a place to eat and we would have had to put our plates on the floor or the terrace wall. The table for 4 was cramped enough as it was and wouldn't have accommodated anyone else. The man then angrily tore the table away and became insulting. With him it was the case that if it was fully booked, some of them wouldn't have the right to a seat to eat... etc... I then insisted on a seat for everyone or we would leave the restaurant, whereupon one of the countless empty individual tables arrived was brought to our place. This was followed by further angry statements and implied threats. The waitress came to our table and dropped a full tray on one of my companions. No apology or anything followed. By the way, there was a group behind us that sat in the same configuration as us, with the difference that there were men at this table, so they probably didn't dare explain to them that they had no right to a table to eat. At other tables there were 2 people sitting at tables of 4 and as I said the terrace was half empty. Other reviews say similar things and that this restaurant is still running, probably thanks to its good location. The zoo next door doesn't seem to be hurt.

Raw minced meat and horrible service The worst restaurant visit of my life was yesterday at Argo, which will be removed from our restaurant list FOREVER. We had chosen the Argo for my stag do to celebrate the big day, it turned into an absolute nightmare. We were greeted as warmly as a boss on a Monday morning. Since one of the 6 of us was sick, a table was rudely taken away from us at the beginning, which immediately crossed the space and cozy atmosphere off the list. The restaurant was never full. Then white wine was spilled on one of our guests, of course she now has to take care of the cleaning herself. In my Bifteki the minced meat was still raw inside, perhaps a new specialty at Argo, we think it was more of an invitation for the health department. The only person to be praised is the female waiter with the great charisma who tried to save the evening. We are so disappointed with the abysmal service, which we don't know from real Greeks, which made a wonderful day end so badly. Argo, you'll never see us again.

We've been raving about Argo for a long time about how great and delicious it is there. We spontaneously decided - which apparently wasn't what we wanted. Some tables were set, but many were not. We waited at the entrance as the sign says... Do you have a reservation No Then they take this table - and hey, gone. After 20 minutes, drinks were taken. The map is a bit complicated or simply very unusual. You will find something, no question, but what is normal for Greeks - ordering everything in the middle is a bit strange for other guests. Which was very easy to observe. When the other guests around you were chatting. The food was great, unfortunately the service wasn't as hospitable as we know it from the Greeks. Especially towards children, here they were rather unwelcome, that's the feeling... Especially in the catering industry, drinks are the be-all and end-all when it comes to sales; apparently no emphasis was placed on them here; people simply walked past empty glasses. There was also no question as to whether there should be something for dessert, at the end an ouzo, mocha or something else, which is a shame and would simply underline the Greek hospitality. Definitely potential for improvement. Maybe we'll be in the area again (the journey would be almost 120 km) and give it a second chance, maybe we just got the wrong day. The restaurant and toilet were very clean, the decoration was very tasteful and not tacky.

The best Greek in Esslingen and also the most expensive when it comes to food. But there is the tastiest thing Greeks have to offer. Not the normal food but the one with exclusive taste.

Unfortunately we dared to come without a reservation. Meat comes 15 minutes before the rice. When I asked why that was the case, I was told that I should be lucky to have gotten a seat without a reservation. Unfortunately, I won't come here with or without a reservation. The individual parts of the meal were very good. But I can't give it more than 3 stars because of the waiting time and the confusion.

I have been a regular guest at ARGO on the Neckar Island for over 20 years. This week I hosted a birthday party for around 50 people. As always, the team prepared everything calmly, discussed everything with me and even thought about the little things. For example, preparing the existing piano on the music stage with a microphone, colorful event lighting on the stage, helping guests park, This time I chose the “Greek” fixed menu. There was therefore NO buffet and no plated meals for each guest, but specialties from Greek cuisine were continually placed on the table in bowls for over an hour. Each guest could help themselves according to their taste and hunger. Perhaps the restaurateur should tell the guests in advance what sequence of dishes and what quantity they should expect, so that they are not full after half the plates. As always, the service was attentive and very friendly. Because of the beautiful terrace and location on the Neckar, the ARGO is a popular destination all summer long without the mass rush of excursion restaurants. Of course, my 5-star rating is written in comparison to similar, more middle-class restaurants and cannot be compared with 5 stars from a gourmet temple.
