We felt welcome from the first moment, the owner is very friendly and accommodating. It's hard to decide what to order with the great menu, but that's not a bad thing, you can come back again. The vadai were too spicy for me but still tasty. When I saw my paper dosa my heart soared. Fresh and crispy as it should be. I missed that so much. The chutneys and sambar that came with it were also very tasty. My husband ordered idli and was also very impressed. It was fresh, delicious food and the price was totally reasonable. Beautiful music was playing softly in the background. All in all, we can only recommend Annam's. Nandri

The outside is unassuming, but inside there is incredibly delicious Tamil food! The owner serves, his wife cooks and they both do a great job. The dishes are authentic, delicious, freshly made with love and first-class ingredients and are also affordable. But be careful, in Sri Lanka they like things spicy, so don't be too bold when ordering and choose medium instead.

Were here with 8 people and everyone was thrilled! The rotti dosai, samosa and vadai with sambal were great! Annam's special veggie mix with 7 different curries/dips is my absolute highlight! Upon request, a semolina dessert was prepared👌 Plus delicious Brinks No 1 and Mango Lassi! Absolute recommendation :) Ambiance: just a little too few guests for this restaurant 😄

After more than a year in Germany (NRW), this was some of the best south Indian food I'd had in a while. It brought me back to those nostalgic days back home. With just the appropriate amount of spice for the dish, it tastes simply great. Everyone who want to experience the various flavors of real South Indian cuisine should definitely give it a try. Excellent customer service paired with a wonderful value for your money!

Unfortunately no real briyani, just kuska with a meat curry side dish and eggplant that doesn't go with the dish. Curry wasn't salted enough. Masala tea was good.

Stopped by by chance and was very pleasantly surprised! The host was very friendly and patient and explained the individual dishes to us. You can choose the level of spiciness yourself; many things are freshly cooked. I can especially recommend No. 51 if you want to try a little of everything. :)

The food quality was mediocre at best. We ordered paratha, which turned out to be very tough. Furthermore, the service was extremely poor; there was only one person handling everything, and his attitude was quite unpleasant. Despite asking him three times, he never bothered to fulfill our requests.

We had rice with 6 different curries and the chicken kothu. Both tasted excellent! Absolute recommendation.

Very friendly host who answered our questions patiently and competently. It was absolutely no problem to point out that a dish would take longer because everything was freshly prepared and this would take a little longer. He also kept checking every now and then to see if we were okay. As a starter there was Samosa and Vadai two dips, as the main course there was Kothu Rotti and Idly, each with vegetables. Very courteous service and super delicious food, we would love to come back!

Das tamilische Essen war super lecker und preislich recht günstig. Die Bedienung war sehr freundlich, das Ambiente ist eher schlicht, aber sehr sauber. Gerne wieder trotz längerer Anfahrt!

Hier wird alles frisch zubereitet. Die Mangolassi wird aus frischen Mango zubereitet (und nicht aus dem Tetra). Auch die Roti werden hier selbst Hergestellt. Der Teig wurde gerade zum Gehen in den Nebenraum gebracht. Und genau alldas schmeckt man auch.

Wie immer sehr familiäre Gastfreundlichkeit und authentische Küche. Gerne wieder!

One of the best restaurant for Dosa in Dortmund. This is a family-owned restaurant and the owners are very humble, hospitable and friendly. I ordered Masala Dosa and thoroughly enjoyed it. Lots of vegetarian and vegan options. This place only accepts cash. I highly recommend Annam's Tamil Foods.

Das Restaurant war super! Der Besitzer war sehr freundlich und lieb und man hat sich sehr gut aufgehoben gefühlt. Wir waren zu viert hier und jeder hat von seinem Gericht geschwärmt. Ich empfehle die Nr. 51, da gibt es von allem etwas :) Kommt her!

I have been eating here since 2 years. No other place is more authentic and with true taste. Run by husband and wife and gives the true south indian taste. Meal is super big portion and we can barely finish it esp the deal of 2 masala dosa in 9.5€. If i compare it to anyother BIG name... I would still rate it 5 Star and all others 4star. Even would prefer it to anything in lunch or dinner. Super low cost, super high quality, super big portions, mediocre ambiance. If you want taste then this is the place. If you want fancy but mediocre taste and half portion at double cost then go else where. I would rate this the top rated restaurant in Dortmund. One caveat though.. some dishes might be a bit spicy for some. Beverages do include non alcoholic beer, but other are limited. Btw: they have MASALA CHAI and it is karak.

Das Bistro hat 8 Tische. Nach 20 Minuten habe ich die Speisekarte bekommen, dann 10 Minuten später ist die Bestellung aufgenommen. Mango Lassi war nicht bestellbar weil der Mango Pulp nicht lieferbar ist, sagte der Bediener, obwohl ich gerade von der TRS Brothers gegenüber eine Dose gekauft habe. Nach eine lange Wartezeit kam die Bestellung (unten im Bild). Die Präsentation war nicht sehr appetitlich und die Chutneys waren wie Prasaadam serviert oder wie Probemengen. Der Sambaar ist kein Sambaar gewesen! Ich komme selbst aus Kerala und kenn mich mit den Gerichten aus. Also, der Laden hat keine Sterne verdient! Grotten schlecht im Service, kein deutscher Standard. Kein Standard überhaupt.

Mein absolutes Lieblingsrestaurant! Hier gibt es das perfekte tamilische Essen. Wir kommen aus Aachen, aber wann immer es möglich ist, machen wir einen Abstecher zu Annams. Das Essen schmeckt überragend, alles frisch zubereitet, die Preise sind angemessen und die Besitzer sehr herzlich! Ich freue mich auf meinen nächsten Besuch.

Das beste Essen, was ich seit Jahren gegessen habe! Klingt das übertrieben? Mag sein, aber mich haben die vielen Currys und das Dosa voll überzeugt!! Zudem gibt es die meisten vegetarischen Speisen auch in vegan ohne dass man beim Geschmack Abzüge machen muss! Einfach großartig!

Very bad experience with the owner of the restaurant. First we ordered masala tea, samosas and idli with sambar. The samosas were too small..so after eating we asked him for another food which is paper dosha..he was very rude at the time and said..why can't you say that first, other people are waiting ,we said sorry (within one minute we said we need one more Samosa because a kid was with us and she was hungry). He was again too rude and slammed his hand on the table and went back. We cancelled the two orders, paid the bill and went back. It is our decision when to order.... He has no right to be rude to the customers.... Very very bad experience... Very bad customer service... And also when we ask for any items mentioned in the menu..he says it is not there or it’s over..and force us to buy what he tells..

Excellent authentic south Indian/Sri Lankan food! Tried Masala Dosa, and besides the price (you get 2 Dosa's for 9,5, quite good price nowadays) the look and tase were amazing! Exactly the same as I've experienced in Sri Lanka. Yes, we did wait around 25 minutes for the food in an empty restaurant, but it was totally worth it for the good taste and the very nice service in this small family owned place. Gret food, our host was very nice, talkative and accommodating, and good prices (2-2.5 for a soft drink is also quite good nowadays). So totally worth the visit! Already planning to return.

One of the worst customer service ever. I ordered kothu and coco-cocla, the food is below average. For the payment , I gave my card but the owner told they only accept cash. After paying , I grab my coco cola tin and try to come out ( becasue I only had half of it and there was still some cola left in my tin). Suddenly , the waiter stopped me and ask for the tin. I told I already paid so why should I need to give it to back. He told pay the tin money 25 cents euro and go. I was really shocked the behaviour of the owener. I told when I was paying to cola it's already included in the price. But he declined and warned me next time don't do it. I feel insulted.

Herzliche Bedienung und köstliches Essen!

I had a Roti with Lamb and my friend a vegetable Roti. Only payment with Cash, which is not advised beforehand. The curry is oily and fatty. The lamb is in tiny pieces and doesn't taste good. The Roti with vegetables doesn't have vegetables but rather a sweet potato curry. However we complaint and the owner brought vegetables and the Roti were really nice. Also the Masala Chai was quite nice. For this mixed experience I give 3 stars instead of 1.

We were craving for some Indian food, and found this restaurant through Google Maps. We were not disappointed. Ordered a Jaffna Special - Chicken curry Rice & a plate of fish fry. The fragrant basmati rice was served with an egg, a tangy spicy chicken gravy, some raita, a cabbage dish and a dal dish. It was really good, chicken pieces were generous. The fish fry was good as well, and is topped with fried onions. Crispy on the outside and the fish was well cooked.

Mir wurde Annam von einem indischen Kollegen empfohlen. Die Küche ist absolut authentisch und sehr günstig für das was man bekommt. Der Besitzer bedient seine Frau kocht. Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt und es war wie ein kleiner Ausflug nach Südindien!

Bevor wir ins FZW gingen, suchten wir nach einer Essenmöglichkeit in der Nähe und stießen auf Annam´s. Der Besitzer war sehr herzlich und freundlich und riet uns sogar davon ab noch mehr zu bestellen, weil die Portionen ausreichend seien. Wo hat man das schon, dass jemand so fair ist und auf Geld verzichtet? Das Essen (wir hatten Rotti) war super lecker. Doch Vorsicht vor der Schärfe, wer scharf bestellt, bekommt auch scharf. Aber man kann sich den Schärfegrad zum Glück aussuchen. Viele interessante Gerichte, wir hätten gerne ein Annams in Düsseldorf, dann wären wir Stammgäste. Preis-Leistung zudem unschlagbar !!! Wir freuen uns schon aufs nächste Mal :-)
