Amara in Freiburg im Breisgau

Far too high a price for a kebab with little meat, lots of vegetables, and a tasteless sauce. The kebab box I ordered with falafel, halloumi fries, and vegetables turned out to be a box with five falafel and soggy fries with little sauce. Absolutely disappointing!

The food was good as always, but it's better to order in person. Online orders aren't read properly.

I was last at Amara about a year ago, and I went back today. It's a shame how much they've declined. The beef doesn't seem to be local anymore; the description has been overwritten. The doner kebab is expensive for what you get. Yes, the skewer isn't ground beef, which is great, but if the meat in the doner kebab is as tough as my shoe, then it's still not a good product. The sauces are delicious, the bread has potential. But more than 3 stars, unfortunately, isn't possible. I've had doner kebabs in this price range at Ferhat in Vienna and Tonbul in Frankfurt, and they're award-winning—no comparison. Unfortunately. Please improve!

The cash register was unable to issue any receipts, and I was instructed to send an email. Despite repeated requests, these were ignored, and no response was received.

The Halloumi Yufka was amazing! Filled with lots of fresh ingredients, grilled vegetables, hummus, and more. Very good value for money. Unfortunately, the chicken pide wasn't as convincing. It had a rather light meat base and a neutral flavor, except for the spiciness of the jalapeños.

Delicious food, even if the prices are a bit high for some dishes in my opinion. Plenty of seating, both inside and outside. Card payments are accepted. The people there are very friendly, and the place generally makes a pleasant and inviting impression. My recommendation: Try the pide there. It was amazing!

I've had the pleasure of dining there twice so far. A well-rounded experience, fresh food prepared when ordered. I really enjoy the food there. Bravo!

Unfortunately, this has been disappointing again and again. This time I pre-ordered a salami pizza and a tonno pizza via the website, providing all the information and phone number. When I picked it up, I was suddenly told that the tonno pizza wasn't available today because they didn't have any tuna. When I asked why I hadn't been informed by phone (after all, that's why you provide the number), they initially claimed they had called – but after a quick check, it turned out that no call had been made. And unfortunately, this isn't the first time something has gone wrong: I've previously ordered a tonno pizza directly from the restaurant, and it was delivered without onions – even though they're part of the standard toppings. So, this kind of oversight doesn't just happen once, but repeatedly. Absolutely disappointing and no longer comprehensible to me.

The falafel was dry. The fries weren't fresh, they were already sitting around. The salad wasn't fresh either. Not recommended. Unfortunately, I was attracted by the vegan options, but as I said, they weren't really tasty and quite expensive.

I was extremely dissatisfied with my visit to this kebab shop. The kebab tasted absolutely terrible, was barely filling—there wasn't enough meat, salad, or other ingredients. For the high price, I would have expected considerably more. Unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend it.

We used to go there often and were always satisfied. But unfortunately, they've declined considerably... They advertise vegan options, but there's always another excuse: already sold out, not prepared yet... Hygiene is also questionable. I've been there three times, and three times I've ordered a tuna pizza, among other things. Two out of three times the pizza was without onions... The wait time was long, among other things.

No longer recommended. In my opinion, the Amara in Stühlinger used to be the best kebab in town, now? Absolute decline! Today we got a yufka and a kebab box for €18.50. We found a wire in the yufka that wasn't coming from the aluminum foil. The fries in the kebab box were soggy and unsalted (at least they were warm, at least they had been in the fryer), and the meat smelled funny. We had to throw the food away.

Went to Amara again after years. The staff seemed very unfriendly and unmotivated. Unfortunately, there's nothing positive to say about the food; the meat smelled a bit funny, and the salad tasted like pre-packaged salad from a bag. To top it all off, I had stomach cramps and diarrhea all night 👌 That was actually the last time.

We ordered two yufkas there. One with chicken and one with veal. The one with "veal" was clearly beef (!!), totally tough and tasteless. The other one had hardly any meat in it. Both tasted like they'd been sitting there for a while. Worst kebab we've ever eaten. Completely inedible for such an outrageous price.

Super tasty Yufka with fresh ingredients and the meat was also very good. Service was a bit chaotic and asked 3 times what we wanted. The waiting time was perfectly fine, we waited about 5 minutes.

Waiting time on site less than 5 minutes. One of the best yufka I've ever eaten. Delicious sauce, fresh herbs/vegetables. Highly recommended!

Extremely dissatisfied! I would like to warn everyone here that under no circumstances should they order online here. You will be delayed for 1.5 hours and then the order will be canceled. Simply unprofessional and can really ruin your evening!

Every time the vegan kebab is said to be out. It has already happened on various days of the week (the delivery arrived two days ago today). Often the plate was simply cleaned hours before closing time. In any case, the Seitan used to be spicier and tasted better. This shop is now resting on its reputation, but it is no longer as good as it used to be.

Absolutely bad service! Lieferando orders are always accepted at first, only to then push them further and further back for the next 2.5 hours, and then end up canceling them when everything else on Lieferando is already closed and you're sitting there without food. This has happened for the fourth time. Don't order there!!!

The kebab of my trust! What Amara did well in Baden-Baden, he has further developed in Freiburg and is now one of the best, if not the best kebab shop! Very tasty meat, vegetables always super fresh and well prepared! Even though I'm a meat lover, I also like to go for the vegan alternative at Amara, which is at least as good! I can only warmly recommend you :))

He forgets the kebab sauce! I'll probably never be able to get over the shock of opening it at home!

I ordered a “normal” Yufka with veal. The yufka turned out to be so spicy that I couldn't eat it. I didn't order spicy, nor was I asked - as is usual - if I wanted it spicy. There was also almost no sauce and very little salad in the Yufka - it was the worst I've eaten in years. How this kebab gets its reputation as one of the best in the city is a mystery to me.

I got a salami pizza to take away and after the first slice I noticed something strange about the pizza. After I took a closer look at the slice I noticed that there was a hair on it. It wouldn't have been bad if it was just on the piece but there were several hairs on it.

I used to love this place, but in recent years, it has been a disappointment every time I’ve visited. The prices are too high, the service is often unfriendly and stressed, and orders are frequently incorrect. The grilled vegetables are consistently overcooked on one side and undercooked on the other. The meat is often tough and chewy, and the portion sizes seem to shrink with every visit.

Yufka with beef was a taste disaster. Meat was completely burnt - meat has no taste or seasoning whatsoever. Sauce doesn't taste like anything either. For €10 you expect more. I won't go there anymore.

Quality has decreased, prices have continued to rise, of course. We all accepted it in our circle of friends, even if it slowly became borderline. But now the prices have been increased again and you are faced with a fait accompli at the checkout because the prices on the large menu board are the same as before - practical for the owner! The minimum service is to display prices honestly and transparently. Times have changed. I don't think anyone wants to have their money taken out of their pocket right now. Lost long-time customers

I ordered doner kebab from Amara in Stühlinger via Lieferando. The meat was 98.5% burned. I'll leave a photo here - I also forwarded it directly to the health department. This is simply a no-go and absolutely unacceptable. Not recommended!

We ate an excellent kebab in both the sandwich and piadina versions (made by them). We chose the truly delicious "beef" version enhanced by a nice variety of fresh and tasty vegetables. The spicy addition was also appreciated. The restaurant is simple and offers the possibility of consuming your food on site with some tables both inside and outside. The staff was friendly and helpful. If you are around the center of Freiburg, stop by, I recommend it.

Whenever I'm on the way to Switzerland, I pass Freiburg on the A5 and, despite the detour, I'm looking forward to eating a kebab here.

I took a Yufka with beef. The taste was ok, but too dry (too little sauce) and the beef was already dried out because it had probably been cut in the air for a while. The price blew me away, despite general price increases I think €9.90 for a Yufka is simply too much. And please update the map on the homepage, the prices are no longer current!

I ordered a kebab plate through Lieferando and asked for a fork. Since I'm in the hospital and having problems getting cutlery. Unfortunately nothing arrived despite information from the gentlemen at the snack bar. The food looks very mixed from transport, as if it had been thrown up. Shame about the money, shame about ignoring the information. Definitely never again

Kebab quite good but at 7pm there was already no sandwich left (therefore forced to take the piadina), and the waiter was really unkind

On August 26th, 2024 around 12:15 p.m. on site with 6 hungry work colleagues. No kebab meat on the grill. The employee said that you would have to wait at least 20 minutes. The shop has been open since 11 a.m....

Actually it's good, but as soon as there's something more going on you should leave as quickly as possible: employees are unfriendly, orders are mixed up, poor Yufka rolling technology, etc... Then just go to the other side of the street and the quality remains a little more consistent as demand increases

Great kebab - good portion - at a reasonable price (in comparison). The meat is of good quality - not molded meat - and you can choose the type of meat. But vegans/vegetarians don't miss out either! Overall, definitely recommended, but intended to be taken with you and only accessible via stairs.

I'm sorry to say it clearly, unfortunately it didn't taste good and the ingredients weren't particularly fresh. Everything was dripping with fat, the meat was of poor quality or incorrectly prepared or both. The staff seemed overwhelmed and unmotivated and was also quite slow. After eating I just felt heavy and stuffed. The prices are excessive for the performance. The location itself is quite nice, apparently it was quite popular a while ago and the food was decent - but that seems to have been a long time ago. Nowadays, hardly any people go there at lunchtime. What should have made you skeptical, I regret eating there.

Unfortunately, for €8, my halloumi in the flatbread was nothing. The taste was okay, but there was not enough sauce and the portion was generally too small. I've eaten much better vegetarian kebab alternatives. The staff was also quite unfriendly and the ordering process was almost chaotic.

Previously I had very positive experiences with Amara. This time the portions were very small. Half of the ingredients were missing in the vegan bowl. The meat in the kebab was gristly.

So far I have always been very satisfied and the food was very tasty. But on our last visit we experienced a real disappointment. We had to wait over 30 minutes for 2 Yufka, even though there were only 3 people ahead of us. The counter was extremely dirty, as was the food storage. That didn't seem appetizing. The supposed boss constantly found fault with his employees and created an unpleasant hectic atmosphere. We both got diarrhea from the chicken Yufka. It appeared that the meat was undercooked. What a shame!

Is this supposed to be a pizza vegetariana? Shame on you. Would you also sell rotten food? The vegetables are so burnt that they are not only inedible but also pose a health risk. I also find it a disgrace that the pizza costs 6.60 euros according to the menu on the homepage, but then 9.60 euros is charged when you pick it up. What's that supposed to mean?! The atmosphere in the store was terrible. The staff is completely overwhelmed, forgets parts of the order and gives out burnt food. I'm really disappointed!

Very chaotic and stressful to order. They forgot my order and then still got it wrong after I ordered again. The food is good though and it would be nice for a sit-down meal.

Falafel for 8.50 is a decent price. We asked if they could put some halloumi cheese in it like you get as falloumi in many kebab shops. When we paid we were asked for EUR 10.50. I'm sorry but that's just too much for an ordinary Yufka, which doesn't taste any better than anywhere else.

The boss also reprimanded his (apparently new) employees in front of the customers. Everything behind the counter was super chaotic, here you should allocate clear work areas.

It's a shame, I ate there a while ago and it tasted good. Never again!

One pizza, 2 yufka ordered through Lieferando. One for me, one for my son (5), they made us both really hot, even though my order didn't say anything about it. Full of crushed chillies. Called and they said call Lieferando. Great, the yufka’s were thrown straight into the trash.

I am very disappointed. Yufka was cold and they had almost nothing on the menu that I wanted. Very unfriendly service. The woman was super mean and didn't like us. There was a hole in Yufka at the bottom so all the sauce leaked into the pack. Would never recommend!

The employee was very nice. The kebab also tasted really good. However, it has never happened to me that I was still hungry after my kebab. Not even after small kebabs. When you consider that the thing cost €8.00 or even €8.50, this is unfortunately very disappointing. In terms of taste, I can highly recommend it, but please don't go if you're hungry.

Very dissapointed. They served me raw uncooked meat in the dönner kebab, a huge piece, I'm glad I didn't swallow it. The bread was also not fresh at all. They said that they have a new colleague so that's why it happened but then I'm wondering how do they train him? Really bad, raw chicken meat can be really dangerous. Other than that the place looks nice but I'm doubting their hygiene standards.
