Due to the good reviews of the restaurant, we ordered food for 3 people to pick up today, 2 of which were Indian and one was Swabian. When I say that neither of us enjoyed the food, it could be based on personal preference. But we all got overcooked, reheated meat, the chicken was really fibrous, completely dry and, in my opinion, pre-fried days in advance. All Swabian side dishes were ready-made products that were carelessly put together (Spätzle from the bag, dried out, mushroom sauce, a packet soup with canned mushrooms added) and, for example, the Indian dhal soup was underseasoned and watery, the dips were also ready-made sauces of not particularly good quality. The only positive things that stood out were the naan bread and the perfect rice. Despite friendly service and a big plus point for punctuality, we don't risk having a second lunch here.

Completely unexpectedly, we passed the restaurant, were warmly welcomed and were able to enjoy the freshly prepared salads.

From the outside, I have to admit, the place doesn't look very inviting. I think that this old tavern used to be a meeting place for the village or town and is now a bit outdated. The old flair can still be felt from inside. Rustic wall paintings and seating bear witness to bygone times in a Germany that people certainly enjoyed living in. Certainly more than in today's Germany... Today Indian food is served here. We enjoyed our meal here extremely well and the service was also friendly. Very tasty and would like to try it once.

Delicious dishes. We love going there - my husband loves the German dishes and I love the Indian ones!

We were the only guests here for lunch on Saturday, June 22nd, 2024 around 1:00 p.m. The waitress was a friendly, older gentleman, probably the innkeeper himself, who took our order. In my case there was a Diet Coke (unfortunately already a bit stale) and beef liver with fried potatoes. Even though, as I said, we were the only guests, it took quite a while until our food was served. The cucumbers in the side salad previously served had already spent some time on the dish (they were mushy), but the rest was fine. The beef liver was good and so was the portion, but unfortunately the fried potatoes were dripping with fat. All in all, our visit there was "okay", but probably not worth repeating.

This restaurant was recommended to us for good Indian cuisine. Very tasty food, very nice service, reasonable price. True with children, they also really enjoyed the food. Can always recommend. We would like to visit this restaurant again soon.

We were here as a group and spent a lovely evening together. The service was very friendly. We all ordered Indian dishes, which we really enjoyed. The portions are large. We were also asked several times if we needed any additional rice. At the end there was Mango Lassi on the house for everyone. We liked it and tasted it very much, we will definitely come back.

The owner has changed and now it is almost all Indian food. Typical German food without further ado. I wouldn't repeat. Too bad I didn't read the latest reviews before ordering.

Large mixed menu - Indian, Swabian. The food on offer has certainly changed with the new landlord. But that can be it... We ate very tasty food, were served friendly and quickly - we will come back 👍🏼

Unfortunately, the new owners can't prepare Swabian food at all. It was a complete surprise to see that there were no guests on site and new owners. In addition, the price-performance ratio is not justifiable. The spaetzle was hard and the meat and sauce were typical ready meals. In addition, the staff could hardly communicate in German.

This was our second time there. Very tasty food and friendly service. We tried Indian starters and tandoori dishes both times and were not disappointed. Would love to come back.

Food was very good... if you like Indian cuisine! We had a very spicy starter, but it was super tasty. The main course “Tandoori” is also highly recommended. Service was also great. We really had nothing to complain about.

Gladly again, we were very satisfied. Friendly staff and super delicious food. Everything is clean and tidy. I would eat here again in a heartbeat and can fully recommend the restaurant.

Don't be fooled by the good overall rating on Google, as this is from the previous owner. Now new Indian owners. Indian food is ok, but German cuisine is not recommended here. Unfortunately it cannot be compared with the old town tavern that it was before. It's a shame that good German cuisine seems to be dying out in Germany.

Unfortunately, the current owners are not comparable to the old ones. The service was inadequate and difficult to understand. Schnitzel with spaetzle cost 17 euros. The schnitzel was a typical ready-made schnitzel. The sauce and the spaetzle were inedible because they had a completely unnatural taste. The side salad was also not sufficient for a restaurant. Overall, unfortunately only one/no star because the presentation and the ambience and food were not good. A pity…

!Change of ownership! At first we were irritated that the Altstadt Schänke had reopened according to Google maps. After a short research, we didn't have any further clarity. We thought of a complementary Indian name, but unfortunately we didn't think much of it, as the name Altstadt Schänke was still current and kept popping up from time to time. When I was there it became clearer to me, unfortunately the order had already been ordered for collection and I had no choice but to hope for the best and keep my fingers crossed. On the menu the name Altstadt Schänke is again shown in extra large size --> Overall, for me it has a touch of deception. - Despite pre-ordering, still 30 minutes waiting time - Quality is no longer what you would expect from the old Altstadt Schänke (we ordered 4 German dishes), the cheapest products are used. - Price is way too high for the quality - Service seems overwhelmed and clumsy We were so looking forward to the food from the Altstadt Schänke as we used to know it and for the money and the wait, we would have preferred to get our own schnitzels from the freezer and prepare them.

Attention new owners whoever goes here is making the worst decision they have ever made. All rubbish

There were eight of us in this restaurant today, but we were very disappointed, the meat was raw, the cheese spaetzle had no cheese, the meat was cold and in the end they gave us a wrong invoice that was way too expensive and their excuse was that they had mistyped. So we still got paid out €30. See other feedbacks

Leckeres Essen, gute service Würden wir empfehlen

Yesterday we went to the Altstadt Schänke restaurant for dinner because of the extremely positive reviews here on Google. Unfortunately we were very disappointed. The owner has changed here. Now Indian Pizza Express owns the restaurant next door. The waiting time was 1.5 hours until our food came, after we had ordered twice and our first order was probably lost. Unfortunately, the food, quality and quantity were also disappointing. The price for the dishes and drinks is way too high (Spezi 0.5L - 5€). Overall I would give 0 points. It's a shame... we definitely won't be coming back

Also wenn ich könnte würde ich 0 Sterne vergeben. Man kann drüber hinwegsehen, dass man über eine Stunde wartet bis mal die Vorspeise kommt .. aber das 3 mal die falschen Speisen an den Tisch gebracht werden ist echt unglaublich. Wir haben 4 mal versucht ein Getränk nachzubestellen, welches bis Ende des Essens immer noch nicht da war. Unter einem großen Italienischen Salat für knapp 14€ erwarte ich etwas anderes als einen kleinen Beilagensalat, den mal üblicherweise als Vorspeise bekommt. Zudem ist im Service keinerlei Kommunikation da und dadurch viel durcheinander. Die Kellnerin die heute ihren ersten Tag in dem Restaurant hatte und zum Probearbeiten da war, war wirklich steht’s bemüht und hat versucht das größte Chaos etwas zu mindern. Außerdem mussten wir 30 Minuten warten bis wir die Rechnung erhalten haben und endlich zahlen konnten. Man muss dazusagen, dass das Restaurant erst seit dem 25.12.2023 auf hat, aber für uns war der Besuch hier das erste und das letzte Mal.

The food quiet good, but it was a little loud we had to wait for a long time since someone came to us. When someone finally came to us the food was served quickly. Overall it was a good experience.

Sind hier immer sehr gerne essen gegangen und echt traurig, dass Ihr schließt. Service war immer 1A, ebenso das Essen. Hatten noch nie irgendwelche Probleme. Wünschen Euch alles gute.

Herrlich, ein authentisches Erlebnis. Kein Rest-au-rant (elitär ausgesprochen 😉) sondern eine ehrlich, liebevolle Gaststätte mit klassisch deutschem Soulfood. Man schmeckt die Qualität, genießt das gesellige Geschnattere und Gelache. Der Service ist grandios, machen alles möglich was geht und erfreuen einen mit viel Aufmerksamkeit und einem Lächeln.

Wir waren vergangenen Freitag mit 4 Personen dort zum Essen. Gut bürgerliche deutsche Küche auch mit Gerichten die man eher selten auf der Karte findet. Ohne Reservierung ist kaum ein Platz zu bekommen. Freundlich und nett wurden wir bedient. Das Essen war super und trotz vollem Lokal mussten wir nicht lange warten. Preislich vollkommen in Ordnung! Auch die Portionsgröße war gut. Leider war es etwas laut, da eine große Gruppe im Lokal war. Wermutstropfen: im September ist Schluss und damit wohl wieder eine Traditionsgaststätte weniger! WO SOLL DAS ENDEN?

Das Essen ist sehr gut 👍 Die Bedienung ist freundlich und zuvorkommend .Auch die Preise sind in Ordnung. Ich finde es sehr schade wenn dieses Lokal wirklich zumacht denn dann hat Rottweil wieder ein Lokal weniger wo man sehr gut bürgerlich gemütlich bei guter Bedienung essen kann.

Meine Lieblingsgaststätte wenn ich in meiner Heimat bin. Das Essen ist dort Spitze. Steaks werden wie bestellt gebraten und sind ganz zart im Biss.

Schade das im Sommer Schluss sein soll. Wer lecker Lokale Küche essen möchte, sollte sich beeilen. Ein Verlust für die einheimische Küche.

Sehr gute bürgerliche Küche, geschmacklich top , mit einer guten Qualität... Service ,sehr nett und freundlich... das Lokal ist Sauber und ordentlich .... der Stil etwas älter , aber gemütlich eingerichtet , die Bar im Lokal lädt zum verweilen ein ... Preis/Leistung völlig gerechtfertigt.... insgesamt sehr zu empfehlen...

Gutes bürgerliches Essen mit reichhaltiger Speisekarte und täglich wechselnden Tagesgericht. Die Gerichte sind reichlich bemessen. Die Bedienung ist freundlich und sehr aufmerksam aber nicht aufdringlich. Ich habe mich in dem Lokal sehr wohl gefühlt.
