"Altes Haus" in Bacharach

We hebben een heerlijke lunch gehad bij Altes Hans .De schnitzel was heerlijk krokant en mals en perfect op smaak gebracht, geserveerd met een frisse, smaakvolle salade. De frietjes waren precies zoals je ze wilt: super krokant en met een subtiele kruidenmix die het geheel naar een hoger niveau tilde. De bediening was uitstekend; vriendelijk, attent en snel zonder opdringerig te zijn. Ook de ambiance was gezellig en uitnodigend, wat zorgde voor een gemoedelijke en ontspannen sfeer. Kortom, we hebben volop genoten en komen zeker nog eens terug. Een aanrader voor iedereen die van goed eten en een fijne sfeer houdt!

I was looking for a restaurant with my daughter on Monday evening and was lucky enough to be able to go to this historic place after 8 p.m. - we were the last guests. Children are always a good and honest indicator - and to put it briefly, she thought the food (schnitzel) was great, great and delicious, and the service was super friendly. I can only join in and say thank you for the lovely evening . And by the way - the wine there is also very tasty.😊

When we are in the Middle Rhine, we have been eating in this beautiful restaurant for decades. We have never been disappointed. Yesterday it tasted wonderful again and we were impressed by the very friendly service. Yesterday the owner gave us a special treat. She sent our poodle a greeting from the kitchen. Tafelspitz!! We arrived late around 7:30 and the waitress didn't want us anymore. Not a problem in itself, but we have never been kicked out in such an unfriendly way before we could ask anything. We fully understand that you can no longer eat at 8 o'clock, but that can be done in a different way.

Disappointing and too expensive for a carelessly prepared schnitzel with too small a portion of fries and salad, which we waited for almost an hour. The ambience was nice and extraordinary

Disappointing, only those who value an impressive ambience will be pleased. That's about it. What we waited for over an hour was a pumpkin soup that didn't taste like pumpkin at all. Four half eggs, with tasteless, green sauce, with very careless decoration. A dry fried schnitzel with lukewarm French fries. Plus two Pinot Noirs. Positively the server, she alone! was responsible for all rooms and still maintained her friendliness. The whole dinner cost €54.80. For us the price/performance ratio is definitely not right.

Wouldn't go there again, schnitzel with fries was dry. They didn't even have shandy on offer. Beer was available in bottles. Horrible music in the background. The inn itself was nice, but unfortunately the rest wasn't.

I had the beef, 3 little slices on a plate, with an industrial frozen rosti, not bad, but so litle and certainly not worth the prize. Restaurant is beautiful ! I guess that’s what’s the price you pay for. I would never ever recommend this kind of place, just…. Don’t…..

Fantastic service, european style. Had plenty of time to enjoy the wine, food and experience. Food was delicious! Wine was great. Atmosphere was very uniquely but wonderful. Can not say enough good things about this place.

A good and tasty meal as can be seen in the photo (Jäger Schnitzel, mushroom sauce and pommes) and an Apfelschorle and a Pilsener. Good service with 2 people who pay attention quickly and carefully.

Uns wurde das Restaurant empfohlen. So reservierten wir zum Öffnungsbeginn am 05.08. um 18:00 Uhr vor dem Restaurant. Gegen 18:05 Uhr waren wir da. Die einzige Servicekraft entsperrte da immer noch außen die Stühle und ignorierte uns komplett. Gegen 18:10 Uhr wagte ich es zu fragen, ob wir uns schon einmal hinsetzen dürften. Wir bekamen sogar ungefragt die Karte. Dann wurden uns, als alle Stühle entsperrt waren, Sitzpolster gereicht und alle anderen Stühle wurden auch noch bepolstert. Jetzt durften wir endlich gegen 18:20 bei der unmotiviert wirkenden Dame bestellen. Wohlbemerkt, wir waren die ersten Gäste. Während des Aufenthalts war die Fachkraft professionell, höflich, jedoch wirkte sie in keiner Weise empathisch. Nur 3 Sterne, da es gar nicht geht, dass bei einer offiziellen Öffnungszeit um 18:00 Uhr, die eigentliche Öffnungszeit 18:20 Uhr beträgt, überdies die Servicekraft das Gefühl vermittelt, man störe ihre Kreise. Wenn man den Service nicht bewerten würde, rein von der Qualität des Essens stimmt auch das Preis Leistungsverhältnis. Die Rinderbrühe mit Maultaschen sowie der Tafelspitz waren hervorragend. Der Beilagensalat frisch. Sehr gut essen kann man dort.

The restaurant is truly located in an old house as the name suggests, which means as old house in German. Three of us had dinner here, all three entries are good, traditional German food and very well done. The desert little warm chocolate is delicious. The ambiance is lovely and we loved the charming deco in the room. The waitress was attentive and fun to chat with. Three entries two drinks and one desert the bill came to about 90 euros. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Bacharach

The “Old House” lives up to its name, pure nostalgia. The delicious beer and the food served with it are also good German home cooking and some local specialties are also included, my recommendation 👍

Very traditional restaurant- first thought was there isn’t a lot on the menu but then you remember the advice cook a few things but cook them very well and this place does exactly that - had the pike and perch for a main and the apple strudel for pudding. Fish was great and at one stage thought this strudel is taking a while but it was worth the wait. I first had an apple strudel in Bacharach in 1980 and have had a few around the world since then but not one like this - great staff to boot as well

Thumbs up to their good service. Staff were very friendly and helpful. There was a variety of wine selections to choose from, while food wise was pretty standard German food. Prices were a little on the higher side, but the ambiance was very traditional, with a hint of castle style in the interior (indoor) of the restaurant. They did also have a rather large outdoor sitting area at the back of the restaurant, and a few outdoor tables at the entrance of the restaurant. The restaurant itself is quite large and rather well-maintained. It did feel a bit stuffy, perhaps it was because of the theme or style of the restaurant, but that is probably my personal opinion. I can imagine others who would actually appreciate the design, theme and interior of the place.

A big thank you and a lot of compliments for Ms. Weber, the kitchen team and the hospitality. We had an excellent meal and felt comfortable in an unusually historic, cozy atmosphere. A Sunday lunch with these memories invites repeating.

Everything was oke, we had a nice evening out.

The food and atmosphere are great. We did have to wait a while for our food to arrive, but it was a delightful setting to wait.

Got the “Sausage Salad”, really did not see the sausage in the salad, looked like strips of ham instead. Though the translation might be wrong. Wasn’t a big fan of the salad dressing either. But the atmosphere is amazing, the garden was serene and there was a live pianist! Maybe do not order the sausage salad there!

The food tasted good and the rest of the group also enjoyed it without exception! Unfortunately, the waitress was alone that evening and that made everything drag on a bit (but it wasn't a problem as we had time). However, the service was very friendly and answered questions about intolerances directly in the kitchen. Ambiance: Rustic.

Disastrous! We booked for dinner on 08/28/2023, my partner and I. We arrived at the restaurant and were served by a very unpleasant blonde waitress from the first moment. After seeing the menu with very little content, we informed the waitress that one of us is allergic to a food. Immediately after this, he kicked us out of the restaurant, saying that they didn't serve anyone with allergies and we had to leave there embarrassed. Reportable and shameful. I will personally ensure that the poor service of this restaurant is written everywhere on the web. Awful.

Altes Haus takes you back in time from the moment you step inside! We sat in what could be described as a front reception room with a piano, and just two tables. Very intimate and gave it a nice atmosphere. We ordered a local wine and were delighted with its sweet fruity character, and it was very refreshing. The service was also very good, and friendly. For our meal we had the Pork Schnitzel, and the Meatballs in cream sauce with boiled potatoes. With this we had a medium dry local wine. Another great hit. The food was very tasty and well presented, and we greatly enjoyed it. The meatballs was particularly good. For our dessert we tried the apfel strudel with ice cream, and the chocolate cake, both served warm. The strudel had a wonderful flaky pastry, and went down really well with the vanilla ice cream. All in all it was a lovely experience in the middle of this very nice town on the banks of the Rhine, with the traditional castle on overwatch on the cliffs above (easily reached by the stairs starting by the church). A definite recommendation from us. Also as a lovely surprise the couple on the table next to us was a well travelled one from Berlin, and we had a very nice conversation with them throughout.

Nefasto! Reservamos para cenar el 28/08/2023, mi pareja y yo. Llegamos al restaurante y nos atendió una camarera rubia muy desagradable desde el primer momento. Después de ver la carta con muy poco contenido, le informamos a la camarera de que uno de nosotros es alérgico a un alimento. Inmediatamente, después de esto, nos echó del restaurante, diciendo que no atendían a nadie alérgico y tuvimos que irnos avergonzados de allí. Denunciable y vergonzoso. Me encargaré personalmente de que quede escrito por todos lados web la mala atención de este restaurante. Horrible.

We had an absolutely lovely dinner here. The vegetable noodle bags/dumplings and fish were absolutely incredible!! We also got the meatballs, beef and schnitzel- all good. Our waitress was so sweet and got us an English menu. We used a little translation app to learn more about the restaurant as well. We plan to come back during our trip!

We could not have picked a better restaurant for our first true meal in Germany! Alte Haus was the real deal…dripping with German atmosphere. We started the evening with the cheese filled flaky croquettes. My wife had the Ziegenkase Gratiniert, baked cheese covered in honey and walnuts with a side salad. I had the pork schnitzel; very enjoyable! We finished the meal with a very enjoyable half baked chocolate cake with ice cream. Although we expected a stuffy old school restaurant, we found the vibe comfortable and the waitresses very personable and friendly. We highly recommend Alte Haus for your dinner in Bacharch (also recommend making a reservation!).

Ansonsten hätte Sie, nachdem Sie meine Frau am Tresen bewusst ignoriert hat, uns einen der angeblich 4 reservierten Tische zugeteilt (Ergänzung: Wir waren zu zweit, wollten nur 30-45 min.bleiben, So.Mittag, gegen 15:00, also in der "Zwischenzeit"). Nicht noch einmal! Dann lieber wieder zum Nachbar-Weinlokal. Da stimmt der Service.

Sehr dunkles Lokal mit unbequemen Tischen. Der Service war nett jedoch nicht besonders aufmerksam. Ein Teil der Gerichte war zum Mittagstisch nicht mehr verfügbar. Das Rührei mit Rösti war nichts besonderes. Qualität eines Fertiggerichts. Tischdecke hätte auch mal gewechselt werden können. Die Tische stehen sehr dicht aneinander. Ich kann das Lokal nicht empfehlen.

We had a fantastic early dinner here, make sure you book in advance, they also prioritise guests of their hotel. However this is not a bad thing. Regarding the food, the potatoes that came with the veal schnitzel were an unexpected delight. We also got the pork schnitzel with creamy mushroom sauce and it was excellent.

We visited later for supper. They were overwhelmed as only one server - who was very polite. We had the simple schnitzel - it was ok.

We were seated right away. Our waitress didn’t speak a lot of English so we struggled a little ordering. As it’s a very small town and it was a Monday there were very few restaurants open but this had a very nice atmosphere. Our dinner was very good but we found the desserts - chocolate cake and apple strudel to be a bit bland.

Von außen ein sehr schönes Fachwerkhaus. Wir waren zu viert dort und mussten zum einen lange auf unser Essen warten (2x Schnitzel, einen Salat und einmal Rührei) und dann kam das Essen leider so zeitversetzt, dass wir überhaupt nicht zusammen essen konnten (Schnitzel kam sogar zuerst). Wir hatten das Gefühl, in der Küche herrschte das Chaos. Leider waren wir mit der Preis-Leistung nicht zufrieden. Auch geschmacklich blieb es eher hinter unseren Erwartungen zurück. Schade - hier ist definitiv Luft nach oben. Wiederkommen würden wir nicht.

Es war super lecker ! Sehr sauberes Lokal. Die Mitarbeiterinnen, die heute Schicht hatten, war sehr zuvorkommend und aufmerksam und sehr freundlich ! Gerne wieder !

Altes rustikales Haus. Küche bietet ein sehr gutes Preis-Leistung-Verhältnis. Beilagensalat gut abgeschmeckt. Hackbällchen in Riesling-Kapern Soße sehr, sehr lecker (ein bisschen mehr Soße hätte es sein können). Schnitzel auch frisch zubereitet und lecker Panade. Einzig der Services gibt leichte Anzüge. Zwar freundlich und sehr schnell bedient, aber Essen und Getränke wurde etwas lieblos auf den Tisch gestellt und auch kannte der Service die eigene Karte nicht.

In allen Bereichen ist da noch deutlich Luft nach oben. Das Essen war nur durchschnittlich (nicht schlecht aber auch nicht herausragend bei recht überschaubaren Portionen) und dafür meines Erachtens zu teuer. Getränke: ein kleines Bier 0,33 l aus der Flasche für 4,20 EUR ist schon übertrieben.

Als erstes das positive obwohl das Essen sehr lange gedauert hat war es sehr lecker.Auch die zwei Damen vom Service waren sehr nett . Nun das nicht so schönes .Als ich mir ein Radler bestellen wollte hieß es ist ausverkauft. Auch das Essen eine Zander war ebenfalls ausverkauft. Dafür würde für meine Frau extra ein neuer Quarkdipp gemacht ohne Knoblauch das war sehr zuvorkommend. Daumen Hoch. Da wir direkt neben dem Tresen ein Platz bekommen haben, haben wir einiges mitbekommen es war sehr chaotisch zwischen den Damen und der Küche .Leider ist auch ein Essen storniert worden da es zu lange gedauert hat.Auch das Kassensystem war nicht das neuste und die Damen hatten etwas damit zu kämpfen. Im groß und ganzem war es ok nur man sollte sich Zeit nehmen für das Essen .

Prachtige locatie en mooi aangekleed. Bediening was niet erg gastvrij en deed weinig moeite ons te begrijpen. Na het bestellen hebben we ruim 45min (in een nagenoeg leeg restaurant) moeten wachten tot het eten er was. Salade was doordrenkt met dressing en werd als eerste, voor de maaltijd, geserveerd. Porties waren erg klein. Door het lange wachten op de maaltijd was er geen tijd meer voor koffie of dessert. Kortom, ik zou het niet aanraden.

Leckeres Essen, hatten selbstgemachte Tortellini und Schnitzel in Kräuter Panade. Lecker. Frischer Salat. Zwei Seiten Riesling, aber nur einen roten, der aber gut war. Wenige Gerichte auf der Karte. Qualität statt Quantität.

Leider kann ich nur sagen, bin noch nie so unfreundlich im Regen stehen gelassen worden!!!!!! An Unfreundlichkeit kaum zu überbieten. Haben höflich gefragt, ob noch ein Tisch für 2 Personen frei ist, von der Kellnerin gab es nur ein ,, nein haben wir nicht,, und hat mich so stehen lassen.

The food was outstanding, Unlike other reviews, our waitress was very kind and took care of us. The schnitzel was incredible, rump-steak, soft and tasty. The desserts were so delish! Of course, the setting is a one of a kind. The house we are eating here has been here since 1389... well... BAM! I really loved the interior decor, tapestries, print from 1819 on the wall. If you compare this to the place we ate the night before, the price beats the other place and the quality and presentation of food blows away the other place. This is pure excellence. Our total bill was 191 € which comes to 23 € per person, this includes the rip-off 19% tax on all restaurant eating. So, prices were good for this quality, I knocked off a star just because I wish the portion sizes for this price were a little bigger. I would return here, that's for sure.

Avons constaté ce que certains critiquent : si des clients commandent anormalement peu, par exemple, une assiette pour deux, ils vont attendre très longtemps ... Normal, c'est un restaurant, pas un snack.

Wir waren eine Gruppe von 6 Personen. Gleich wurden Tische für uns zusammengerückt und die Sonnenschirme platziert. Gute Speisekarte, regionale Weine und Gewrichte und imer etwas besonderes. Schwartenmagen, Bratenbrot mit Kartoffelsalat - sehr gut zubereitet und weit weg vom üblichen Standard. Und die Weine haben einem den Mittelrheim von seoner besten Seite gezeigt. Da werden wir sicher wieder hin gehen.

Während unseres Kurzurlaubes haben hier zu Mittag gegessen. Das Personal war freundlich, das Essen (Flammkuchen) gut und die Getränke kalt und die Preise in Ordnung. Wir haben nichts zu beanstanden und würden wieder kommen!
