We were there for dinner last night with 15 people. It was simply a disaster. Almost half of the steaks we ordered medium were nearly well-done. After we complained, they were replaced, but still not satisfactory. The side dishes for the other meals arrived much later, by which time the meat was almost gone. After pointing out to the waitress that we had expected more, we just got a shrug. No apology or anything. After this experience, I can only advise against eating there. It's simply too expensive for such poor service and mediocre food.

The restaurant was full, the service and the food, including that of the other guests in our group, were good, and the prices were reasonable. All in all, a positive impression remains.

The calf's liver, like the one I had last time, was absolutely delicious. The tasty lemonade with a glass straw and bits of fruit was particularly impressive. The venison sirloin steak was cooked to perfection. The large Bolten Ur-Alt beer had a decent head, and the large Coke with lemon and ice cubes (not pictured) was served impeccably. It would be helpful to include weight information on the lunch/game menu so that diners know what to expect in terms of portion size. As I mentioned on-site, for heavier diners, there's plenty of room for more. The croquettes and red cabbage were delicious. To give the red cabbage a more festive touch, I, as a gourmet, suggest that the chef garnish it with caramelized walnuts. The Zurich-style sliced ​​veal was also excellent. There was a generous amount of sliced ​​veal and gravy. I would recommend either serving one and a half times as much rice or, if not desired, ordering an extra portion. I would have been pleased to see Djuvec rice, especially since the owner seems to have Yugoslavian roots and the menu offers at least one Yugoslavian dish. Perhaps this well-intentioned culinary suggestion will be heeded, and in the future, one can choose between buttered and Djuvec rice. Otherwise, the food was truly excellent, quickly prepared, and the staff and atmosphere were superb, as always. Therefore, five stars and a full recommendation. See you soon!

We were actually planning on booking a table. After looking at the new price list, the Schlachthofpfanne (slaughterhouse pan) had gone up by 6.40. That's settled for us for now. Too bad. But going from 15.50 to 21.90 is definitely too high.

We've been coming here for years. We celebrated our wedding here nine years ago. Back then, the manager really saved our asses. Shortly before our wedding, our original location fell through, and what can I say? Our wedding couldn't have been more beautiful. Everything was perfect! All our wishes were fulfilled. The quality of the food is consistently very good. We've never had a bad experience. Wishes are always fulfilled. The staff, for the most part, has been consistent and top-notch for years.

Went there for the first time with the family. 2 adults + 2 children 17 + 19. The food was okay. The portions were acceptable. The drinks were too expensive. A 0.5 cola for €6.30. The wait was unfortunately too long - almost an hour. No bread or dip to tide you over. A good restaurant does things like that. It's sad that you pay €1 for a sachet of mayo or ketchup when it should be free. If you order a platter for 2 people for €46, which has a small piece of steak (very tough) on it or a turkey steak or something similar and a small schnitzel garnished with broccoli, cauliflower, fries and fried potatoes (unfortunately not crispy enough), you only get herb butter on request, which of course costs €1.50 (should really be included with a large platter). Strangely enough, there was hollandaise sauce included. There wasn't even a small salad beforehand. With other menus, yes. A nightcap at the end was also missing. Considering the prices, that should be included. The service was excellent and the waitresses were very friendly. The ambiance is also nice. But we wouldn't go again.

The old slaughterhouse is a beautiful, restored site. The restaurant is spread over two floors. Because of this, if you're assigned a seat downstairs, you always feel like you're on a bustling train platform. That doesn't create a comfortable atmosphere for me. It's better upstairs. The food is good. The menu is well-organized. Unfortunately, the additional schnitzel menu is only available on Thursdays. What really annoyed me on my last visit was that substandard produce was knowingly served. Some plates came with fries as a side dish. So far, so good. To our irritation, the fries couldn't be salted, which has never happened to me before. The consistency and feel left a lot to be desired. The server then informed us that the kitchen was aware of the problem and that they had received a defective batch from the manufacturer. Substandard produce was served, based on the motto that humans are omnivores like the pigs once housed in slaughterhouses, so they could safely pass it off to the customer. Then it was crowned by unprofessionalism. "You can have a different side dish." (By the time the lady returned, we had eaten a good portion of the meal (i.e., without the fries) and didn't need it.) "When they make you new fries, it will be the same as now." And that was it. We were then also made to pay for the disgusting and poorly cooked fries. Therefore, we will steer clear of this restaurant for the time being.

Have been back and as always great food and warm service. Here it becomes too good. As the name suggests, the menu is geared towards meat.

Update: May 7, 2025 After two years, finally made a second visit to this excellent restaurant. We were again given a very friendly welcome and excellent service! The service in all areas is above average and fantastic!! We can warmly recommend the dishes, to be mentioned here, antipasti and breaded champions!! So delicious!! 😋 Afterwards we ordered a surprise plate for two. That was a plate with selected vegetables as well as French fries and fried potatoes, and many different types of meat and hollandaise sauce. The record was really a surprise. Unfortunately we didn't manage to eat everything. But it wasn't a problem, the rest was packed up to take home! We recently celebrated a birthday with 17 people. The food was overall very tasty. Unfortunately, it wasn't entirely optimal in terms of organization: the tables couldn't be put together, so we were divided into two groups. Orders were also taken separately, which meant that one part of our family was already eating while the other was still waiting for the food. That was a shame, because especially at a family dinner you want to eat and celebrate together. My steak, ordered medium rare, unfortunately arrived blue, but the taste was still good. Overall we had a nice evening. Nevertheless, we would have liked more professionalism and attention in the organization and service, especially for larger groups.

Today was schnitzel day. The variants differ in the various sauces and side dishes. Fried potatoes, fries or croquettes are assigned to the various schnitzel dishes. Beautifully prepared and decorated, your appetite increases when you look at the plate. It is also very good that the guest can choose between three portion sizes. For those who find schnitzel too simple, the menu offers a variety of delicacies. In any case, we were satisfied.

Wir hätten ihr das Trinkgeld nach dem Bezahlen gegeben. Aber so hat wohl jeder seine eigenen Gepflogenheiten. Negativ muss ich anmerken, dass es sehr laut im Gastraum war. Das störte die Gemütlichkeit doch sehr.

Just the sight of the lavishly filled serving tray made your mouth water. The selection of different types of meat - including perfectly grilled sirloin steak, juicy chicken, tender lobsterfish and delicious schnitzel - was excellent. There was also a generous portion of crispy fries, golden brown fried potatoes and fresh vegetables, which wonderfully rounded off the hearty enjoyment. The breaded schnitzel version in particular was a real treat! Not to forget: the homemade sauce, which enhanced the already great taste. The portions are huge, so be sure to come hungry or look forward to a delicious leftover meal! The service was friendly and attentive, and the rustic ambience made the experience perfect. If you love hearty cuisine and like trying different types of meat, you shouldn't miss this platter. Clear recommendation – five stars for an unforgettable taste experience!

The ambience is inviting, well-kept but not overloaded. There is an art to combining elegance and coziness and that has been achieved here. We have been here several times with different groups and have never been disappointed with the food. So far everything has tasted very good. The service is also very well trained and warm at the same time. When my husband celebrated his birthday, there was even a birthday serenade! Where can you find something like that today?

We were there with 9 people on Saturday at 6 p.m. The restaurant has a very nice, inviting atmosphere that makes you want to linger. The staff was very friendly and committed. The restaurant was busy, but it wasn't too loud (I'm sensitive to noise). Smaller side dishes that were ordered were forgotten. But brought straight away when you asked. Unfortunately, the appetizer plate with grilled vegetables and later the side salad were at refrigerator temperature. Price-performance 👍

Went to the Old Slaughterhouse for the second time today and once again only positive things: Food top, service top, price performance perfect, I find it particularly commendable that a review is responded to and criticism is taken seriously. But what I really liked this time was that a new employee, whether from colleagues or the management, was introduced to her new field of work very sensitively without building up pressure or stress. I think this is how you can win people back to the catering industry. In my last review I criticized the plate decoration. This time there was radish again as a decoration on the plate, but this time it was underlaid with a little dill and a carrot in the middle, which created the image of a flower, which was very attractive.

In the Old Slaughterhouse you will find an ambience that you would not have expected here. In advance, it is highly recommended to always reserve a table. We visited there on a Friday evening in September and were so impressed that we are going again today with my 90 year old mother. The food....simply put....a dream. You shouldn't miss this simple yet sophisticated cuisine. Because here the palate gets a special kind of taste experience. If I lived here in North Rhine-Westphalia, I would definitely be regular guests. Conclusion, if you love that, come here to the Old Slaughterhouse in Mönchengladbach-Rheydt and let yourself be pampered.

Wir hatten für den 90. Geburtstag meiner Mutter im Schlachthof einen Tisch reserviert für unsere Familiengesellschaft. Lange vor dem eigentlichen Event. Als ich 3 Wochen vorher die Personenzahl erweitern wollte und erneut anrief, teilte man mir mit, dass man an dem betreffenden Tag ohnehin geschlossen hat. Angeblich wurden alle Termine rechtzeitig abgesagt. Uns hat niemand Bescheid gegeben. Eine Unverschämtheit. So etwas unzuverlässiges haben ich noch nicht erlebt. Leider ist es unmöglich keinen Stern zu geben. Gottseidank kamen wir im Elia , Korschenbroicher Straße, Koenigskarree ,kurzfristig unter und waren sehr sehr zufrieden. Hätte ich nicht nochmal angerufen, hätten wir im Schlachthof vor der Tür gestanden mit der ganzen Gesellschaft. Nicht zu fassen.

Aufgrund zweimaliger (Jan + Febr 2024) wirklich guter bis sehr guter Bewirtung, sowohl in Kleingruppe als auch Großgruppe, wählten wir diese Lokal wieder mit einer großen Gruppe aus. Leider können wir allesamt das Essen nicht mehr als mit 1 Punkt bewerten. Teils Massenabfertigung, Überforderung, hastigem Service bis hinzu 'Grillbuden-Essen'. Für derartig einfache niveaulose Speisen braucht man nicht dieses Lokal zu wählen. Um den Inhabern eine Chance zu geben fragten wir nach dem Grund, da es tatsächlich auch einmal einen 'schlechten Tag' geben kann. Was wir bekamen, war eine standardisierte Rückmeldung. So etwas wollen wir nicht akzeptieren. Somit kann jeder Gast unserer Gruppe seine eigene Bewertung hier abgeben, was wir eigentlich vermeiden wollten. Sehr schade, aber derzeit nicht zu empfehlen!

Service (but they were super friendly) could be better. You had to wait 30 minutes for your drink, so 1 star was deducted. 2 star deduction for the decoration was only on the terrace but wasn't that great.

A wonderful evening with delicious food. There is plenty of seating on two floors and in good weather you can sit outside, although reservations are recommended. The restaurant is also very busy during the week. This could be due to the service staff, the friendly atmosphere or the generous portions... The price-performance ratio is definitely well balanced. Requests are addressed and fulfilled immediately. This way everyone can express their food preferences and won't be disappointed! 4 people with starters and several drinks total less than €120!!! Great! We would love to come back!!!
