Alter Krug Dahlem in Berlin

After our positive experience last year, we were looking forward to a delicious roast goose today, but were utterly disappointed. The meat was tough, dry, and almost impossible to cut, with very little gravy. And all this for €43! Both plates should have been sent back immediately. The complimentary espresso we received after complaining didn't make up for it.

German restaurant with good food and attentive service

The Alte Krug Dahlem is very cozy and beautifully decorated. Our service was incredibly friendly and accommodating, making us feel right at home right away. ❤️ The delicious food topped everything off. There were three of us and we had one veal schnitzel and two livers. Everything was delicious, of excellent quality, and in perfectly sufficient quantities. Unfortunately, there wasn't enough room for dessert. 😅 We would have loved to lick our plates clean. Special requests were also accommodated without any problems. The prices were quite reasonable for the quality of the food. We will definitely be back, thank you for the lovely evening, see you "soon" 🥰👍🏼

Every Saturday, Wiener Schnitzel at a special price. Simply delicious.

The restaurant is good, but relatively expensive. The staff is friendly and attentive. The ambiance varies depending on the number of guests. As soon as several groups of people are inside, the acoustics deteriorate, and the air quality deteriorates significantly.

Very friendly and humorous staff, prompt service, excellent and quickly served meals in a pleasant atmosphere: we would be happy to come back and warmly recommend the restaurant.

The food wasn't as described. The lukewarm potato salad was unfortunately cold, not quite my taste.

Cozy restaurants with hearty cuisine aren't exactly common in Berlin. For me, the trip diagonally across the city was worth it. The food was truly excellent, but the best part was the staff. A truly warm team that makes such evenings special. Especially when the entire team researched together and even made a special call to find out where I could have a last nightcap with my companion. Thank you for that.

On September 23, 2025, the three of us at the Alter Krug. If you know and appreciate Austrian cuisine, the "Tiroler Backhendl" (Tiroler Backhendl) makes your mouth water (mine, of course) – and it's worth €24.50. However, when, instead of the Austrian specialty, you're served a thickly breaded frozen chicken breast (a batch, probably from Metro) that's been thrown into the deep fryer for five minutes, accompanied by cold, mushy potato salad (what a "lukewarm" thing...) – then you write off the "Alter Krug" as another no-go in Berlin's increasingly unacceptable dining landscape. Never again.

Most beautiful beer garden in southwest Berlin.

Anyone familiar with the schnitzel in a Krug from the past will be disappointed. Horrible! A schnitzel is served with a steak knife...that's completely unacceptable! And every schnitzel looks exactly the same...so I assume it's frozen food. €23 is too expensive for that. Next time I'll come back for a test meal and see if anything has changed.

Great old style, traditional German cuisine with nice beergarten on sunny days.

Instead of remoulade, we had herb curd, fish soup with vegetable broth as a base, no response after a complaint. We won't be going back – oh yes, some of the drinks are more expensive than at the hotel bar.

I congratulate the operator for his courageous and consistent stance for democracy.

If you're going to charge prices like that, you can expect service that knows the menu. The waitress gave me the wrong information, and when the desired dish was actually listed on a board, she said, "That's today's lunch special." Then the table next to me had that dish. I feel a bit like I've been made fun of. On top of that, the portion of the dish I got was a waste of time. Too bad.

The ambiance and interior are very nice, the tables inside are covered in white, the service is friendly, but the food and drinks menu is absurdly expensive.

We've been going to the Alte Krug for many years because the location is actually so nice. However, I've become increasingly annoyed by the poor, almost unfriendly service, especially by a blonde waitress with a ponytail who's been there for many years and has never served in a friendly manner. It's also become outrageously expensive. A bottle of seltzer for €9.50? I'd rather go somewhere else from now on.

The food and service in the restaurant are excellent. The food in the beer garden is also top-notch, but the staff aren't particularly happy to see you. And unfortunately, you can't (always) pay by card there.

However, you should expect prices that are comparable to those of a good restaurant to avoid being surprised. Alternatively, the beer garden also offers a self-service bar for beer and pretzels, which particularly attracts cyclists looking for refreshments.

The food here is great, the staff friendly, and the prices are reasonable. They serve lunch, and in the evenings, you can sit in the beer garden. The self-service bar is a special feature.

Apparently popular, but not my thing. Overall, too rich for me. Huge portions. Hearty. That's my impression.

The ambiance is slightly upscale, but not overly so. Prices are on the high side, as is typical for the area. It's sometimes very busy, which leads to a high noise level. The staff is friendly but also very busy. The St. Martin's Day goose menu was excellent, although the consommé was a bit too spicy. We were able to have the rest of it packed, but they didn't give us the sauce, and unfortunately, they didn't give us the whole carcass with stuffing, just the meat. The beer garden is very pleasant in the summer.

Highly recommended. All the dishes are exceptionally good, and the ambiance, especially outside, is wonderful. The service and cuisine are impeccable. Anyone who enjoys good German cuisine should definitely stop by, whether outside in the summer or in the cozy interior in the winter.

I'm only giving one star because, unfortunately, it's impossible not to give one. I was there today with my family – with a sleeping toddler in a stroller and a baby. Even though the restaurant was almost empty, we weren't allowed to sit at a quieter table. The waitress treated us extremely rudely and aggressively. Her manner was so disrespectful and unpleasant that we paid and left the restaurant immediately. Absolutely not recommended.

Not exactly cheap, but good food and very friendly service. And the beer garden is fantastic. A Dahlem institution with a mostly older, sophisticated clientele. We always enjoy coming back, especially now in the summer when the weather's nice.

Kitchen warning!!! Wilted lettuce, dripping-with-greasy fried chicken/schnitzel, soggy (greasy) fried potatoes, everything lukewarm and carelessly presented, every meal a costly disaster... Never again!!!

Unfortunately, the restaurant offers terrible value for money. The potato salad was reminiscent of something you'd find in a supermarket, along with a barely noticeable amount of cucumber salad, and one of the two small breaded chicken pieces still had a piece of cartilage on it. These chicken pieces were miles away from rustic Tyrolean fried chicken. You might want to have a drink in the beer garden here, as it's quite nice, but you can get better food elsewhere.

The staff was extremely friendly and attentive – you immediately feel welcome. The food was consistently delicious, and the drinks were served promptly. The beer garden with its self-service area is ideal, especially in summer, even for larger groups. A quick tip: It's worth making a reservation, especially during peak times. We'll definitely be back!

A truly fantastic restaurant. We had a wonderful meal yesterday. A fantastic starter plate, a superb steak, and delicious asparagus. We'll be back!

It's a shame. My mother really likes the place, so I booked a table for 5 adults for 2:30 p.m. on Whit Monday. Unfortunately, there were only 4 of us, we were seated by a lady and left alone for a while. For the first time, I had to ask for something to drink. The room wasn't full. I mean the first time, because unfortunately it kept getting like this. The lady, who seems to be in charge, preferred to sit next to the senior boss rather than ask us what we wanted. And when we did have requests, they were ignored. Like: Please bring bread and herb quark FIRST (9 euros); 10 minutes later the main course was served, but no bread. Please bring fried potatoes instead of potato salad (5 euros extra, 34 euros instead of 29 euros for veal schnitzel), but fried potatoes and potato salad came. Later, I ordered a 0.1 l bottle of wine; it only came when we asked for dessert. The neighboring white-covered tables were used as seats for the lady while her order was being taken. Casual, considering the prices. I could write much more. By the way, the neighboring table got the soup before the drinks. Or: they ask with "WIE" instead of "Wie bitte" and never say "Sorry" or "Excuse me." What a pity. Again. 4 people. 214 euros!!! Not much of a tip this time.

We were there for an event. The food was great, the atmosphere very pleasant. Except for one server, everyone was very friendly and helpful. One of them argued with almost every guest, giving rude answers; she was unsuitable for a restaurant like this. I've been there a few times, and it's always nice.

…… mal wieder im ALTEN KRUG in Dahlem gewesen zum „Lunch“. Wetter war sehr schön - trotzdem weniger Gäste als sonst ….? Nach 10 Minuten kam die Speisekarte, aber nicht die Wochenkarte und auch nicht die Getränkekarte. Die haben wir uns dann selber geholt. Erst auf Nachfrage bezüglich der Wochenkarte wurde uns diese dann an den Tisch gebracht - allerdings war es nicht die aktuelle Karte sondern die der Vorwoche! Wir haben die Kellnerin darauf hingewiesen und sind gegangen. So eine „Arbeitsweise“ hat nichts zu tun mit „Personalmangel“, zumal genügend Servicekräfte für die wenigen Gäste da waren….

Very friendly staff. Upscale atmosphere. Close to the Dahlem subway station. Very expensive. The quality is 100%. The meat and side dishes are all perfectly seasoned. Definitely recommended despite the high price.

The price is high, which would be fine if the food was correspondingly good, but the veal schnitzel was, if anything, average; unfortunately, it was very tough, and I tried several different ones. The scrambled eggs with the asparagus were burnt; the chef must have noticed that. The service was good, but the price/performance ratio isn't right here. It's a shame.

The liver à la stroganoff from the lunch menu was good, but the quantity was also very manageable. The cabbage roulade was also ok, but 4 sticks of asparagus with scrambled eggs and a few loveless boiled potatoes for around €26 are very reasonable in terms of price. The service was attentive and friendly. Unfortunately the air in the room was very bad late at lunchtime. It's lovely to sit in the large beer garden. But due to the price-performance ratio, we will refrain from visiting again.

Unfortunately, I only go there occasionally, 2-3 times a year. Very nice beer garden, friendly, unobtrusive, attentive service. My companion and I had asparagus with veal schnitzel and potatoes. The schnitzel was excellent! Unfortunately, the rest was very poor. The potatoes were mushy and old. Four asparagus spears were straying onto my plate, and my companion's had five micro-stalks. It's meager for a classic pub meal, especially since they probably used every possible reason (personnel and energy costs, inflation, drought, climate, war, etc.) to come up with a hefty €39 for the meal. I'm happy to pay a lot for good food, but here it just didn't add up.

Service in the self-service area is extremely slow. We left again. 4.50€ for a 0.3 lemonade from the bottle in the self-service, absolute extortion.

We were there on May 1st this year. It was very disappointing except for the food. Very poorly organized: far too few staff for this holiday! Tables were very dirty and almost an hour passed before the waitress came... the food came quickly, but my additional side dishes were briskly rejected, even though they were on the menu... we ordered 2 rump steaks, asparagus and one Königsberger meatball. Everything was very tasty as usual, but care should be taken with the size and weight of the rump steaks, as one of the two was only half the size of the other. Conclusion: no more visits there for now, I'd rather go to Luise for the time being.

Exzellente Deutsche Küche im "Alten Krug" mitten in Dahlem. Uriges Ambiente im alten Haus Nähe des U-Bahnhof Dahlem Dorf. Immer einen Besuch wert! Köstlich!

I ordered the Wiener Schnitzel but apparently the cook lost his hammer because what i got had not been pounded thin but was a thick piece of meat. I was too engaged in conversation to say anything but really you'd think the waitress would have said something.

We enjoyed going to this restaurant. Just because of the garden. I have known this restaurant for over 45 years. It's never been as bad as it is now. The corn plaice was not appetizing... the ham was burnt and the plaice had no taste at all. The potatoes are overcooked. The prices are exorbitantly EXPENSIVE. If you can't cope with the rush of guests... you should rethink your concept and not just think about making money. I won't be coming back even though I've known this atmosphere for a good 45 years

The most beautiful thing here was the location, beautiful beer garden. The food was really not good, the “fried chicken@” was two small slices of breaded chicken fillets, estimated at 120g, with potato salad for a whopping €23!!!. We actually wanted to eat asparagus, but asparagus with schnitzel for €40 cannot be justified. Even with organic quality, which is not the case here, it would be an outrage!

The portions are really very economical for the steep prices. 2.5 small potatoes with the 2 Königsberger Klopsen for 20 euros is a bit embarrassing. The Wednesday steak for 14.90 looks good on the menu, but was cut extremely thin, with the number of fries appearing counted. Nobody was really full, not even the kids. The taste was ok. Staff was friendly and quick, ambience was good when the weather was nice. I'd happily go back for a beer, but I'd eat somewhere else.

The restaurant is very nice and has a good atmosphere, the food is very delicious and the staff are very Mertes, we will come back again.

We had dinner there at Easter with 6 people. It was full, hectic. Food came to the table differently than what one person had ordered, one meal was totally over salted, but was replaced after a complaint. Maybe on normal days, when the staff isn't overloaded, things work better there. It was our first time there, and of course you're thinking about going there again.

Cake for more than €5 was still frozen and was returned. Had to wait a long time for service. There were also leftover lipstick on the glasses for our Aperol Spritz (from the bottle). Not recommended

The tables are placed very close together and you feel very restricted. Very loud.

The service was nice and polite, but made promises that were not implemented. In addition, water bottles are "forced" on you right away. You're just sitting down, the menu is handed to you and water is immediately suggested to you. Price-performance isn't really there. Asparagus was still firm, one schnitzel was oversalted and the rest is a matter of taste. Toilets looked bad for such an atmosphere *of course it's the guests who can't behave* but the empty toilet paper cores flew around and there was a strange shelf there that didn't fit. So as I said about the price of the dishes.

It can happen sometimes, but all in all it seemed chaotic. The salad with the fish was forgotten. When asked, no one cares. As I'm clearing away, I mention the missing salad again, then I'm offered to pack it up to take away. Great idea! I get a cappuccino on the house and a lecture on why things can no longer be regulated differently in terms of cash registers. So instead of a side dish (€6.90), which I would have liked to eat with the fish, I get a cappuccino and not even an apology from the waitress, who was annoyed from the start. That's it for us with the jug.

Unfortunately, the asparagus (my first this season) with fried egg and hollandaise sauce and parmesan was missing. Unfortunately, my request for the sauce was also forgotten (even though it wasn't particularly busy) and only the second request was processed. I had to let the last asparagus stick get cold until the hollandaise sauce was served without apology. And it certainly wasn't made by hand. At a price of €27.50, it's a shame. The liver ordered by my partner was very good.

Expensive prices for fine dining

There's a lot to be said for the restaurant, apart from the good, but not outstanding, food at fairly reasonable prices.

The wonderful location of the restaurant away from the hustle and bustle of the big city means that, in addition to very good food, you can also enjoy... both inside and out feel the taste of nature in a nice garden. A Bavarian-style pub, almost iconic. The food and atmosphere are amazing.

I had to be careful eating and waiting for the drinks for about an hour. The ambience is good, but my food wasn't really tasty either, considering the prices.☹️☹️☹️

Food is average,, 3 stars is already too much for it. Basically boiled potatoes, boiled Spargel, Rührei , and hollandaise sauce for 26€ . No creativity whatsoever. Service is good and fast. Problem with card payment because their system was too slow. Wi-Fi didn't work either, therefore 4 stars. The atmosphere looks good. 4 stars for that. Overall 4 stars

The three of us had dinner here in the evening and only made a personal and uncomplicated reservation in the afternoon. The tiled stove in particular contributed to a cozy atmosphere in the room, which was characterized by lots of wood. The food was excellent (the best schnitzel I've ever had) and plentiful. The service was very friendly and quick, never intrusive and gave us friendly advice. Thank you!

Today we were surprised at the Alten Krug, I always had good memories from my last visits. The service was very pleasant and friendly and the prices were all reasonable. The food was okay, it came very quickly, but you can tell that it was convenience food. The mashed potatoes tasted like they came out of a bag, the sauce was also somehow ready and the cabbage rolls had some kind of taste. So the chef wasn't particularly imaginative. The risk of recurrence is currently zero
