Alter Bierhof in Bautzen

There were 10 of us. The restaurant was full, yet there were no wait times for orders. Excellent staff. The food is four out of five stars. This is a subjective assessment. In conclusion: The staff is excellent; the waiters and waitresses are truly skilled. Thank you for a wonderful evening.

If you want to grab a beer and move on, this is a great place. It's cozy, the beer is fresh, and there are plenty of varieties. You can't eat here. We ordered a beef roulade and liver with onions. The roulade was completely dry, impossible to chew, much less swallow. The liver was charred. Everything was burnt to a crispy black crumb. Overall, the food doesn't even deserve 1 star. The beer is 5, the atmosphere is 4 (the lights are broken and not working). Overall, a 3.

The price-performance ratio is okay. The portions could have been larger. They also offer basic German cuisine for those with a smaller appetite.

A pleasant and rustic atmosphere meets very friendly staff. We were absolutely delighted, as always; the price-performance ratio is completely justified. On average, you pay 18 to 20 euros for a good meal. The food was delicious again, and despite the large number of guests, we didn't have to wait long. Highly recommended.

We were served drinks quite quickly, and the food arrived in about 30 minutes. We ate several different dishes, and all were good to very good. The "Prince's Meal" is highly recommended.

So for a hapthang that is smaller than a döner 20€ I don't see the point in paying whatever you get on the plate for 20€ it's not worth it, it's artificially cooked and well-seasoned without using too much salt

Last night passed in a pleasant atmosphere. We enjoyed spiced meat and baked potato wedges with quark. The homemade spiced meat surpassed all our previous experiences in terms of taste. Our expectations for the evening were met. Thanks to the friendly service.

We visited the Alter Bierhof for the first time today and were pleasantly impressed. You won't get anything without a reservation, so always book in advance. The service is very friendly and attentive. The ambiance is rustic and truly wonderful. The food was plentiful and tasty. The restrooms were clean. Full stars.

I really enjoy going there. In the summer, you can spend a few pleasant hours outside with a beautiful view. The food is delicious, and there's a good selection. Requests for substitutions are no problem. The service is always friendly and prompt. Keep it up. Pre-ordering is advisable.

We actually wanted to have dinner at the old beer hall today, but that never happened. Right from the start, the waitress at the counter greeted us with a rude "What do you want?" After we said we were looking for a table for three, we were informed that almost everything was reserved, which we couldn't see because there were no reserved signs. We then sat down on the terrace and were given tickets, but after that, we were simply ignored. However, the table next to us, which arrived later, was served. Since it started to rain, we went inside and asked again for a table. A waiter, at least a friendlier, told us where a table was available, but that was it. Again, we waited in vain and left after waiting for over half an hour. When we handed over the table, the lady, who had been so "friendly" at the beginning, said she was finishing work early and went to smoke in the aisle in front of the entrance with other people. Conclusion: never again and absolutely not recommended.

We were there on Saturday for the second time in three months. Unfortunately, it was very disappointing. The food was rather bland; we didn't like it at all. The wait was very long, and there was no cutlery on the table, so we had to wait several minutes after serving until a waiter came and brought us cutlery. Nevertheless, the two young waiters were super nice and very attentive. We had a celebration on the terrace in 2022, and the food was gigantic and absolutely delicious. Today we were very disappointed; the menu didn't blow us away either; it was very confusingly written. Unfortunately, it's no longer 5 stars for us.

Unfortunately, we were squashed into a small table right next to the restroom and the exit to the outside. One of us was allowed to look at the wall. Even after requesting a better seat, nothing was done for us, even though the better neighboring seat wasn't occupied by the time we left. The menu was confusing, with overly creative and ridiculous names for standard dishes. The portions were very large. But the mushroom sauce with the schnitzel was definitely not homemade and tasted like it came from a can. The consistency of the sauce was also a sign of "canned food." The experience didn't live up to the hefty price tag. And it will remain a one-time visit.

Very nice outdoor seating with a view of the Old Town Bridge and the mountains. Delicious food and a good selection of drinks and beers. Unfortunately, the service wasn't that good. We were left sitting for a long time, and the dishes weren't cleared away for ages. If the server had been at the table more often, I would have had at least two more drinks. Not like this. Update from August 24, 2025: Yesterday, after a visit to the Dinosaur Park, we wanted to stop at the Alter Bierhof before starting our almost two-hour journey home. I called around 4:15 p.m. and asked if there was still space for four on the terrace. After checking the booking system, this was confirmed, so we arrived about 20 minutes later. The waitress then said that food orders wouldn't be taken until 5:30 p.m. With two small children and considering our journey home, we didn't want to wait that long, so we left. It would be desirable if the information that hot meals aren't available all day was communicated transparently. There was no mention of this either on the website or when contacting us by phone. The trip and search for a parking space were therefore in vain. Annoying.

We visited the restaurant today. We were able to choose a table outside. A waitress immediately came over and asked what we wanted. We first ordered a small beer tasting. The beers were explained to us. The beer was served at a comfortable temperature and slightly sparkling... simply excellent. Afterward, we ordered a spicy meat dish and a sausage salad... both dishes were very, very tasty, both in terms of temperature, seasoning, and quantity. There are so many different seating areas inside and outside, hence the 5 stars for that and to the entire staff for their very friendly service and perfect preparation and service. KEEP IT UP!!!

A beautiful, quaint restaurant with a medieval feel, winding, and somewhat dark, but appropriately decorated. Attentive staff. The food is appealing, well-portioned, and tasty. Anyone vacationing in and around Bautzen should plan a visit here. Public parking is available approximately 100 meters away.

If you visit Bautzen, the old town is a must! Then enjoy a break at the Alter Bierhof, with excellent cuisine! A fabulous menu and ancient, rustic rooms with a view of the deep Spree Valley!

I'm not sure what happened today. I told the guy we wanted a table for 8. He said he didn't have any. Then I asked about two tables for 4. The guy told us it was full even though there was literally no one in the pub. Maybe he was bothered by the fact that we were Czechs even though quite frankly we have a higher GDP per capita than East Germany. Bizarre

We ate here yesterday. The food was okay, even if we weren't entirely impressed with the taste. The service was friendly but seemed a bit uncoordinated – we had to wait a while for our drinks, and one or two orders unfortunately went missing. The ambiance is pleasant, and the view from the terrace remains a real highlight.

The food was okay, but it arrived before we even got to our table. Help! We had to wait 60 minutes because the four tables that arrived 20 minutes after us had supposedly pre-ordered. Personally, I think it's a disgrace.

Unfortunately, our visit to you today was disappointing. We had to wait almost an hour for our food. A salad we ordered was forgotten, and it wasn't brought even after we asked for it. There was a rather large bone in the seasoned meat. After asking twice, we finally paid at the counter. We didn't receive a bill.

Hands off! The seating is quite comfortable, but that's about it... ...Our family head had reserved a table for eight people for lunch at 1 p.m. on a "normal" Sunday. No problem, we took our seats, and the first impression was OK. The cards were brought to the table immediately. After that, the downward spiral began. 1. The drinks weren't brought for 10 minutes, and after an impatient 30 minutes, we dared to ask what the problem was. We were told at the bar that the beer wasn't running today. That can happen, but they neither offered us a replacement drink nor recommended a bottled beer as an alternative if the tap was just "drip." After another 10 minutes, the server nervously arrived at the table and promised that there was a kink in the hose and that business would resume as normal from now on...unfortunately, not. 2. The dishes were brought after a positive announcement about the beer, and the drinks were brought to the table by waiter No. 2. The quality of the drinks was OK, but nothing special; the fruit spritzers were bland. 3. 45 minutes later, three steak o'fours were unexpectedly delivered. Unfortunately, that was the wrong table. Upon inquiry by service staff No. 1 in the kitchen, the mistake was cleared up, and after a good hour, we were still sitting in the room without food. 4. The food was actually served about 2 hours after entering the restaurant. Contents: cold plates; over-salted fries/potato wedges/sweet potatoes, cold vegetables, and unfortunately, the side dishes were definitely unappealing frozen goods. The meat dishes were tasteless. The highlight was my "burger with pollock fillet," a tasteless rectangular piece of breaded frozen fish. The dishes remained on the plate at 40%. 5. I ordered more drinks from service staff No. 2: simple, 2 beers + 2 sodas. After asking three times by waitress No. 1 whether the drinks had been delivered yet, we gave up and left the restaurant with a sick feeling in our stomachs. 6. Of course, the four drinks were included on the bill, even though a minute earlier, the question had been answered three times by waitress No. 1, who also printed out the receipt. The end of it. We had to check the receipt and report the number of drinks ourselves, and what was left. The corrected receipt followed promptly. Well, thanks for the messed-up lunch. It was almost 4 p.m. by then.

We had reserved a table for 8 people today. After ordering our drinks, we waited an extremely long time, and then the waitress made a negative comment that the dispensing system was being switched on and the carbonation wasn't working. So, most guests waited for their beer. The next thing in the seasoned meat was small to very large bones, which ruined our appetites. When we ordered more drinks, it took an extremely long time again. The sad thing at the end was that one of our meals was forgotten, after almost 2 hours in the restaurant. What can we say about that? There are no staff members, and so many guests left, which is a real shame. The service was attentive, but it's in the owner's best interest to change things. We are very disappointed with the day.

We went with our family today and were deeply disappointed. The waitress was completely overwhelmed (it was just the two of us), meaning we waited forever for our food, and when it arrived, it was cold.

We didn't like it. The beer wasn't tasty, it seemed like it was watered down. We waited 27 minutes for them to count us.

We spontaneously visited Bautzen today and got a nice seat on the wonderful panoramic terrace at the Alter Bierhof without a reservation. The service was very attentive and friendly. The drinks arrived quite quickly, and the lovingly prepared food arrived less than 20 minutes later. The beef strips with dumplings were incredibly delicious. The meat was juicy and tender, the vegetables were crunchy, and the sauce was superbly seasoned. The portion was huge for the price. However, the plate could have been a bit larger, so we had to eat very carefully to avoid dropping anything. But that didn't bother us too much. We'd definitely love to come back! A little tip: Be sure to choose the beer tasting board and try the many different beers. What a fun idea! 😜

A beautifully decorated restaurant with a lovingly crafted, very diverse menu. The prices are unbeatable for what you get. Some dishes had many customization options, and the food was beautifully presented. We especially liked the fact that each plate featured a radish animal, making it easy to identify the meat. The staff was enthusiastic, friendly, and knowledgeable. We will definitely eat here again!

Service was mostly friendly, the ambiance was very nice, and the food was good. However, in my opinion, the value for money isn't there. When a schnitzel with cream of mushroom sauce and croquettes costs almost €20, it should be a complete meal. Homemade croquettes instead of frozen ones would have been nice. I could have done a better job with the schnitzel myself, too. That's not what you go out for. All in all, okay, but not a culinary highlight.

We were at the Alter Bierhof two years ago and wanted to see if it was still as good – and yes, it's still delicious! The spinach tagliatelle in lemon sauce with tilapia was delicious: fresh, aromatic, and perfectly prepared. The quark potatoes were also very tasty. The service was friendly, attentive, and pleasantly relaxed. The beautiful view – directly overlooking the bridge and the towers of Bautzen – is particularly noteworthy. This gives the meal a very special atmosphere. It's nice to see that the quality, service, and ambiance have remained consistent. A definite recommendation!

In terms of location and view, it's hard to beat. The staff were very efficient and very friendly. The food was a real treat. Highly recommended for vegetarians, too. There are also dishes that deviate from the norm and are excellently prepared in terms of taste and presentation. I would definitely recommend it again.

Sunday 2:30 p.m. in a restaurant, 3 locals having a beer, but you can't eat anything because they're getting ready for the evening... Restaurant?

We were there yesterday. We had already made a reservation by phone in May and asked when we should arrive so we could attend the summer theater on time and still have a relaxed meal. At 5:30 p.m. sharp, we were greeted warmly and shown to a nice table on the terrace. The tickets arrived fairly quickly. By the time we could order drinks (unfortunately, non-alcoholic cocktails are only available from 8 p.m.), 20 minutes had already passed. We ordered our food at the same time (for fear that the food would take just as long to arrive). We were distracted by pleasant conversation and realized 10 minutes before 7 p.m. that we still hadn't had our food. When we asked, we were told that the food was currently being prepared. 2 minutes. Our food arrived 10 minutes after 7 p.m. We had to leave for the summer theater at 7:20 p.m. (The Burghof (unfortunately) was aware of this). Despite being quite gulping, the food was very tasty (except for the cheese wedges (unfortunately very dry, with very little cheese)). Unfortunately, it wasn't a particularly pleasant start to the evening, but at least it was mostly delicious. It would be great if comments like "We have to leave at 7:20 p.m." were given more attention to prevent such stressful evenings. The Burghof is certainly aware that many guests attend summer theater afterward from Wednesday to Sunday.

We reserved a table for 6 people at relatively short notice. Due to the bad weather, we arrived early and asked if it would be possible to get a table now. This was indeed possible, and the restaurant was almost empty. Unfortunately, we had to wait a long time for service; after half an hour, we finally dared to ask if we could order. The bad mood was immediately noticeable, and we briefly considered leaving. The drinks arrived relatively quickly. After ordering the food, we had to wait again, but the wait was perfectly acceptable. The portions were decent. Since there's no accounting for taste, everyone should make their own judgments. We had the "Hänkersmahlzeit" (a traditional German dish). I personally found the skewer too dry, and the potato wedges didn't blow me away. The vegetables, on the other hand, were very tasty. The liver lacked salt. On the other hand, our child was super happy with the grützwurst and sauerkraut. But that's our personal taste. Conclusion: The food is okay, but the service was, in our opinion, only mediocre.

Beautiful view & very tasty food.

Despite a reservation, we didn't have a nice table. No view. Four menus were left on the table for two. The plates were overloaded. The food was quite salty. Service was quite good. We don't want to go here again.

We had the roulade and a schnitzel with asparagus. The schnitzel was fantastic, the asparagus crisp, really good! Unfortunately, the roulade was dry, and the red cabbage tasted musty. The plate went back to the kitchen half full. The service was very polite, but we still paid full price. 🤗

We came here spontaneously yesterday. Luckily, we managed to get two comfortable seats at the bar. We received a friendly welcome. The drinks arrived promptly, and our food also arrived within a reasonable timeframe. It was delicious and beautifully presented. The portions were reasonable for the price. Overall, a great stay, which, in the summer and when the weather is good, also offers a wonderful view from the terrace.

The ambiance and the food were excellent; we would come back here again. I find the medieval theme throughout very appealing. The portions are also decent for the price. I'm losing a star for the service. The waitresses were friendly and attentive to our needs. But we waited a whopping two hours for our food, a bit long for a moderately busy restaurant. It felt like our waitress had to cover the entire restaurant. Perhaps this was a short-term staffing shortage, but unfortunately, I have to deduct a star for that, even though I would have liked to give it a full five stars.

The food took a little longer, but it was absolutely delicious. It was a bit chilly in the front area, just like the people around. The people of Bautzen would look better with a smile, and the food would surely taste even better. 😁

I went there for dinner with colleagues in the evening. Outside on the terrace, you have a great view of the bridge. The food is typical home-style cooking, some of it spectacularly presented. The house beer is highly recommended!

The food and the location are truly highly recommended. Unfortunately, the situation seemed a bit overwhelming. A drink was ordered but not delivered, but paid for. The requested cutlery only arrived after asking twice. Perhaps we just caught a bad day.

There was nothing wrong with the food, it was great, free choice of seating, I also thought it was great. Well, the ambience is done in a medieval way, as far as the decoration is concerned, you can do that, but then you have to do without modern things. In fact, two things caught my eye that just didn't fit there. There is a huge view of the bridge. It may be that we just haven't seen everything. That's why my review is exclusively for the part in which we sat. Yes, the service, I still know it from good restaurants that you get a greeting from the kitchen, when did that die out? We were served in a friendly and nice manner. All in all, you can go there quietly.

A cozy location with a wonderful sun terrace. With a glass of wine and beer, the sun has disappeared behind the roofs... simply beautiful! The service was very friendly & attentive. A very good restaurant, very delicious and great menue. In the center of an amazing City, in Bautzen, is this restaurant, very trendy interieur and an amazing view to the valley of the river. A bar at the entrance to have just a drink and in the back on 2 levels is the restaurant. Cold dishes as hot dishes are served. Draft beer and a variety of drinks are satisfying the thirst. Its very enjoyful and has a great view.

A very nice ambience with nice and polite service, although they sometimes counter with a good saying if you get too overzealous. The food tasted very good, was plentiful and visually a feast for the eyes. That wasn't my last visit there.

Food was delicious. I got the wrong starter but that wasn't a big deal for me. We had to eat in about 30 minutes. Wait, which is totally ok for Sunday lunchtime. Gladly again.

Very tasty food, we had the duck leg and the slightly different Gordon Bleu, both top class, really. Of the two service ladies, the younger one actually seemed to have a lot of fun at work, her colleague was also nice but more reserved. The ambience with the great view and the nice decoration was great. The only thing we found annoying was the staff smoking at the entrance.

Everything just fits, good, quick, very attentive service. Very good and tasty food! Beef roulade is very tender with lots of mustard but not too spicy, beef strips in mustard sauce are also very tasty. Starter ragout fin handmade super. Lemon was not put there. The ambience is also great, a rustic “beer cellar” in historical garb. Still not tight or too warm or too cool (December) Plenty of beer selection with 3 and 5-fold tasting glasses. Highly recommended!

This way you can scare guests away. We had reserved days ago. Then we got a table in the passage to the terrace. On a day when there was still an event on the terrace, it wasn't fun. Nice atmosphere for eating, none. When we asked whether we could change the table, we were told that everything was fully booked and that it had already been assumed that the guests would not like the place that day. Unbelievable, but you still do it? Here you can only get the impression that profit is what counts. Too bad... We then gave up eating.
