Alte Schule in Eisenach

According to Google's "Vegan Food" menu, there's only one vegan appetizer platter. They don't offer vegan options, even when asked! So order ONLY fries—🤦‍♀️—and they come with yogurt dip... Conclusion: not suitable for vegans!!!

A very nice restaurant with good food and friendly, fast service. The Pina Colada is amazing, and from 10 p.m. onwards, it became a lounge-like atmosphere. We had a very pleasant evening there with our group of 14 people.

A truly wonderful ambiance, very stylishly decorated. Excellent service. The rump steak with Alfredo pasta was fantastic, and the chicken burger was good but a bit tasteless. Nothing particularly exciting, then. But everything was good quality and fresh. Highly recommended.

The restaurant is beautifully decorated, and the atmosphere is relaxed. My personal highlight is the order cube, which you can use to call for service or pay. Unfortunately, we had too much fun pressing and using the cube, so ours was turned off. So everything is perfect, but don't press the order cube too often.

Highly recommended! Everything was fully booked, and without a reservation, you have almost no chance of getting a table. It was incredibly stressful for the waiters and the kitchen, but everyone was polite and courteous. Thanks to the dice on the tables (for ordering or paying), we never had to wait long. The food was very good, and even with large groups, they made sure everyone could eat together. I also loved the smooth transition between the restaurant and bar atmosphere later on! Thank you for the unforgettable evening, and all the best in the future!

Very nice ambiance. Attentive, friendly service! The menu was varied, and my roasted beef liver was spot-on and very tasty. Review update 01.03.24; We were back at the old school for a family dinner for the first time in a while. Everyone really liked the menu (they even had Jägerschnitzel, GDR-style or old-school style ;-)) and the dishes, and they tasted good. The price-performance ratio was good. Using the service cube, the waiter was at the table almost immediately, and our requests were fulfilled very quickly and with great friendliness! There was nothing to complain about!

Great restaurant. When we travel to East Germany, we plan our trip so we can eat at the old school in Eisenach. The food is always good, and the service and staff are excellent.

One positive aspect is that the restaurant is open on Mondays. The food was delicious and the portions were adequate. The service staff varied greatly, from diligent to standing around. As a tourist who's just arrived in Eisenach and is looking for an open restaurant, it's not a good feeling to be immediately told that you should make a reservation. The price-performance ratio was okay. One more tip: We were offered a schnapps on the house when paying. Since we're not allowed to drink alcohol, it would be nice to offer alternatives, such as an espresso or something similar on the house.

A successful evening with friends; it was packed. Nevertheless, the wait times were acceptable, and minor service glitches were overlooked. We'd love to come back!

The ambiance is great. The food and service are okay, but not quite up to scratch. The rump steak (€30) was medium-well done and quite small. The schnitzel had more of a frozen-food vibe. The kitchen was flexible, though; I requested salad instead of fries.

We went here because of the good reviews. Unfortunately, we can't understand them at all. Yes, the ambiance is nice, the service too, but the food and drinks were, unfortunately, an absolute disaster. A Hugo with lemon... The pork schnitzel is almost certainly frozen and tasted accordingly. The fact that the food was ready in less than 10 minutes doesn't speak volumes about the quality. For €20.90, that's honestly outrageous, and you could almost expect a real Wiener schnitzel for that. Unfortunately, we can't recommend this place at all.

The "Alte Schule" (Old School) tries to offer high-priced, diverse regional cuisine. Service and quality are only average, but the drinks are simply too expensive. The ambiance is pleasant. Conclusion: Not recommended. That was the unanimous opinion of our entire group... Never again. There are much nicer, cheaper, and better restaurants in Eisenach.

Very good service, the food was very good and plentiful.

I had beef liver, which was garnished like a shoe sole, with far too many canned fried onions and soggy, lukewarm fried potatoes. I think it's outrageous to pay almost €25 for that.

Great ambience, very friendly service and our food was simply delicious

Unfortunately, we couldn't sit outside due to the threat of rain, but were seated nicely inside. The service was very prompt and attentive, perhaps thanks in part to a Bluetooth cube on the table. The prices were a bit "exaggerated" for us (e.g., for the salads), but they were worth it considering the size. Personally, I could imagine someone not finishing that portion. Perhaps something smaller and cheaper? Just food for thought! My grilled pork steak was a little dry, and the sauce lacked depth. But it was still tasty. My husband praised the beef liver. It was accompanied by a very good Sauvignon Blanc and a non-alcoholic beer, both well chilled. All in all, a successful evening.

The Old School is a nice, slightly more upscale restaurant. The ambiance is stylish and you feel at home. I had nothing to complain about with the food. I had a picanha. These are five small pieces of beef that were well seasoned. It came with regular fries (you can also order sweet potatoes), a small salad, and bowls of chimichurry and a herb dip. My wife had a chicken burger, but the bun was unfortunately a bit dry. For starters, we had the Bruschetta Old School in four varieties (two different cheeses, classic and with herb cream and mushrooms), which was quite good. Next time, though, I would go for the classic one. We also had feta in puff pastry, which you should definitely try. It was fantastic. I really like the concept of the dice on the table, which you can use to call the waiter or order the bill. And it worked really well. In general, the service was very attentive and prompt. The online reservation worked well. It's also a good idea to make a reservation; when we visited, all the tables were occupied.

It didn't taste that bad, but seriously: Almost €20 for a plate of pasta with canned mushrooms? That was the case with all four dishes: inferior (ready-made) ingredients (including imitation cheese) at far too high prices. Service took a long time at first, but later got faster. Atmosphere: It was fine outside in good weather. Conclusion: Food lacking in love, prices exorbitant. (Poor value for money)

At the demopark, the staff was very stressed and under pressure. Food 👍 so you're happy to wait a bit longer.

We can't comment on the food, as we only had drinks there. The staff was friendly and nice. Now for the negatives: If you order a cocktail (a Caipirinha), I expect crushed ice in the glass, not ice cubes. They really skimped on the alcohol! The taste wasn't great, and for 10.90, I would have expected something better.

The Alte Schule is a good restaurant with a pleasant atmosphere, good food at fair prices, and attentive staff. I'd be happy to return with my next seminar group.

We're here on vacation, which is a real shame. Not that we're here on vacation, but that we certainly won't be able to come back anytime soon. We were thrilled with everything and hope the chef enjoyed it too. Best wishes.

The restaurant was highly praised, so I was rather chastened afterward. Mainstream food, well decorated but lacking in refinement. Too expensive, in my opinion. What left a lasting, positive impression was the attentive and friendly service. The outdoor area is lovely, but hard to find at dinnertime.

Very good food with huge portions. Friendly waiter! Some of the tables are outside, facing the street, but that didn't bother us. Definitely recommend it! Great ambiance inside.

A very disappointing experience. We waited over an hour and a half for our drinks and almost two hours for the food. The service was completely disorganized, no one really cared – and there wasn't even an apology. When the food was finally ready, we had to take it with us because we had to move on. They also packed the wrong dishes for us. There was little response to our feedback, just a minimal discount. Overall, a very frustrating experience – not recommended. I will definitely never go to this restaurant again.

During our vacation near Eisenach, we had dinner at the Alte Schule twice and were absolutely thrilled both times :-) The ambiance is exceptional, the service outstanding, and the food hard to beat! Special mention goes to the rack of lamb, which is incredibly delicious.

We were guests at the "Alte Schule" with 17 people. 17 hungry people walked into the Alte Schule, and after a good two hours, 17 satisfied, full, and happy people left the restaurant... How did that happen? Find out for yourself. We'd definitely love to go back to the (Alte)Schule ;-)

Everything fits together here. The people who work here radiate warmth and calm. We were able to enjoy our really excellent meal completely undisturbed because we were able to decide for ourselves when we wanted to use the digital service cube on our table. After the theater we went straight back to the restaurant and enjoyed a delicious cocktail in a very atmospheric ambience and well-selected music. We will definitely come back and recommend this insider tip.

We had a wonderful evening at the old school yesterday! We were greeted very friendly, the atmosphere in the restaurant is great! The Tataki was highly recommended, really good! And the ravioli was also a culinary delight! The idea with the cubes on the table, which you can tap for “service” or the desire to pay, is great. They then change the light color and send a signal to the waiter’s tablet. We'd love to come back! If this restaurant existed in my home country, I would be a regular!

A great restaurant with a great atmosphere. The food is not run-of-the-mill food, it is very special. I would always go there to eat. Price-performance is also great.

Nice atmosphere, but overall the restaurant makes a stylish, efficient and therefore impersonal impression. We also found the food (and drinks) to be significantly too expensive for the quality offered. The antipasti platter was mainstream, but a bit unimaginative and neutral in taste, there is no daily menu, otherwise we couldn't really see a clear line in the menu. The burgers were good, they seem to specialize in that here. The order cube for ordering is a supposedly good idea; someone usually comes quickly, but of course you lose sight of the little things that aren't actively requested. It's a shame, in my opinion, you could do more with it overall, especially given the prices asked.

The food and ambience were a solid 5. The service was underground! The drinks we ordered only came after the starter and long after that. After the meal, our plates were left on the table until we paid. One waiter after another walked past without taking anything. From our point of view, unfortunately 2 points for this as there is absolutely a lot of catching up to do.

We had dinner at the Alte Schule Eisenach restaurant on Saturday. The food was really of a very high standard, both in terms of taste and appearance. The waiters were very friendly, despite the restaurant being completely full. Very big recommendation. ☺️

Nothing special. Both in terms of food and ambience. For the price you would have expected more. The service was good.

Service, ambience, everything was great! But I was very disappointed with my burger. Just under €21 for a burger with a few fries and two dips. The citizen's roll was cold, was on the grill for 2 seconds and is the cheap junk from Aldi with sesame. For the price I expect a decent roll, if not homemade then at least something better. Meat was OK for that.

The Alte Schule has been on my list as a restaurant for a long time. Reservation on a Saturday evening is definitely recommended. The ambience is very tasteful and the beautiful, large counter is particularly impressive. The service was consistently friendly and we were really impressed by the option of “little cubes” on the tables. There were five of us and everyone chose a different dish - in addition to sea bream, burgers and schnitzel, picanha was also absolutely convincing in terms of taste. You also have to mention the very tasty fries. A successful evening and an absolute recommendation.

We decided to go to this restaurant in the morning to have dinner and immediately made a reservation online, which worked brilliantly. The interior design is stylish and rustic at the same time. The choice of food is varied and there is something for everyone. The food tasted very good and was also beautifully presented. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The restaurant is in a good location if you want to go to the State Theater later.

We had reserved, but our table was still occupied, but we got another table. The food with the different components each had a different taste, I couldn't really say whether I found it delicious or just strange.

We have been going there for several years and are always very satisfied. The prices have become more expensive but the portions have remained the same and the quality is great. The cocktails are also incredibly tasty and always have an appropriate amount of ice cubes. After a certain time it gets busier and therefore louder, but that's not a problem for us. The staff is very attentive and quick, the cube to order is also a good idea.

We spontaneously walked past it and thought "that looks nice" and actually: nice ambience, nice service and delicious food. This service cube was interesting and worked great - I've never seen it anywhere before.

Yesterday we celebrated a birthday with dinner at the Alte Schule restaurant in my former home town of Eisenach. The ambience is tasteful, although the tables are a bit close together. You stroke the back of the person sitting behind you on the hair when you have to go to the office. The service is courteous, even if you notice that not every employee is an expert. But this is more than compensated for by a high level of attention. The menu is a pleasing mix of modern interpretations of classic dishes. Whether fish, meat or vegetarian, there is something for everyone. I chose the Saganaki (hopefully I remember this correctly) prawns as a starter, the beef liver with onions and fried potatoes and the panna cotta with caramel sauce. All courses were excellent, very tasty and well portioned, the chef knows his craft. The Negroni as an aperitif was good but quite small, the red wine was tasty considering the price, the espresso was good and hot. So recommended across the board, a good place to spend a successful evening in good company! Fun fact; I actually went to school in this building from 1979 to 1981...

Wir hatten eigentlich einen Tisch in einem anderen Restaurant reserviert. Wir bekamen dann einen Anruf, dass eben jenes Restaurant kurzfristig schließen musste und wir nun ein Tisch in der alten Schule für uns reserviert wurde. Wir kamen etwa eine Stunde vor unserer reservierten Zeit im Restaurant an, was überhaupt kein Problem darstellte. Der Service war super, sehr freundlich und unaufdringlich, aber sofort zur Stelle, wenn wir etwas brauchten. Zum Ende hat sogar der Chef selbst den Service übernommen, sehr nett und aufmerksam, was uns sehr beeindruckt hat. Das Beste aber war schlicht das Essen. Wir hatten beide den Eindruck, noch nie sooo gut gegessen zu haben! Wir schwärmen heute noch von dem Essen und dem Besuch und haben bereits für unseren nächsten Besuch in Eisenach einen Tisch reserviert. Absolute Empfehlung aus vollem Herzen! Und großes Lob an das gesamte Personal. Wir freuen uns sehr, bald wieder eure Gäste zu sein!

Highest recommendation from the bottom of my heart!!! We had actually reserved a table at another restaurant. We then got a call that that restaurant had to close at short notice and that a table in the old school had been reserved for us. We arrived at the restaurant about an hour before our reserved time, which was no problem at all. The service was great, very friendly and unobtrusive, but immediately there when we needed something. In the end, the boss himself even took over the service, very nice and attentive, which really impressed us. But the best thing was simply the food. We both had the impression that we had never eaten so well! We are still raving about the food and the visit and have already reserved a table for our next visit to Eisenach. Absolute recommendation from the bottom of my heart! And big compliments to the entire staff. We look forward to being your guests again soon!

Tolle eigentümliche besondere Einrichtung mit viel Holz, Leder und besonderen Lampen. Sehr schönes Restaurant! Kein Witz, das war eines der besten Rumpsteak, dass ich je gegessen habe. Perfekt gewürzt, frisches Gemüse und gebratene Kartoffeln mit herrlicher Sour cream. Da musste ich dann noch den "Schoko Lava cake Soufflé" ausprobieren und wurde nicht enttäuscht - ein Gedicht von einem Dessert! Hier gehe ich auf jeden Fall wieder hin, wenn ich in Eisenach bin. Der Service war auch spitze!
