Alte Meister Café & Restaurant in Dresden

Relatively small but exquisite menu for dinner. However, the wallet should be appropriate for the illustrious ambience.

We were in the restaurant as part of the cooking star lessons. Waiters and atmosphere really excellent. The menu was very Asian. Lots of really good combinations, but with slight weaknesses here and there. The pork belly was clearly too salty, but the duck breast was excellent. The lime jelly isn't great, but the cheesecake is. Stable 4/5

Wir waren mit fünf Personen am frühen Sonntagabend zum Essen vor der Oper. Zu der ohnehin sehr kleinen Speisekarte erklärte uns dann der Kellner, dass es einige Gerichte gar nicht mehr gibt, da nächste Woche die Speisekarte gewechselt werden würde. Spargel gab trotz Saison keinen. Das Essen war eher durchschnittlich. Die Hähnchenspieße zu der Bärlauchsuppe waren angebrannt und der Skrei auf Tomatenrisotto überzeugte weder im Aussehen noch im Geschmack. Der Service liess ebenfalls zu wünschen übrig. Dem Anschein nach ungelernte Kräfte, denen der Servicegedanke fehlte. Keine Weiterempfehlung. Nichts passte zu dem gehobenen Preisniveau - nur das Ambiente.

The service is zero, they immediately spoke to us condescendingly as soon as they heard that we were not German. The coffee (espresso and latte) was unacceptable, the espresso tasted like an uncleaned machine and there was coffee grounds all over the glass, and the latte was strongly watery and tasteless. Although the place is very nice, I do not recommend it to anyone. By far the worst German cafe experience we have ever had…

After an impressive tour of the kennel, we wanted to have lunch or have a coffee in the Alte Meister restaurant, unfortunately without success. We went in and looked for a free table (there was no one at the entrance) when suddenly an arrogant waitress started shouting at me behind my back. When I turned around she glared at me and asked what we wanted. We should have waited at the entrance. I didn't understand what we had done and if I had seen a sign or someone at the entrance I would definitely have waited. Such an arrogant reaction is completely uncalled for and no matter how good the food and environment are, bad people can ruin the entire atmosphere. If the lady had a bad day, she shouldn't let the guests know and if she always behaves like that, she shouldn't do the job. It's a shame we traveled hundreds of miles and experienced this.

We were about to leave Dresde and made for a walk around the Palace. We had American coffee, milk coffee and an excellent cappuccino. A piece of cake. The environment, quiet, beautiful, clean. A fresh flower on the table, some candles. Lovely staff. A real pleasure. The coffee was delicious!!!! Thank you.

We went for lunch. The place was empty (one more table with people). We ordered soup and a couple of salads. It took FOREVER to get our food, after a couple of reminders. The food was ok, but less than what we had expected, based on the reviews. Overall disappointing. The staff wasn’t friendly at all. Before we left, the waiter apologized for the delay and said that he “had other things to take care of”. Ha? What’s more important than serving your customers? SKIP THIS PLACE!!

By choosing this place to eat and have a coffee you will bring back home memory of the tastes experienced. The tastes here are very unusual but at the same time it seems familiar. It is as if you wold have ordered the same hot chocolate as in any caffeteria, but here the taste is slightly different and your first thought is - maybe on the opposite side of The chocolate girl painting is hidden some XVIII century recipe and they serve it here. The same is with the food - choose to dine here and you will not regret it, this will be nice additional experience of taste and atmosphere. Thank You!

The food was delicious, unfortunately the portions were very small and there was no bread served with the soup, we weren't aware of that. Unfortunately our waitress was very inattentive. We waited a very long time for tickets. Our order was taken, the drinks and food were brought and after that it was almost impossible to get the waitress's attention. Very unfortunate.

Very nice. Nice atmosphere. Our drink was good. We arrived in the morning thinking that it would be open as a cafe in the morning, but it opened at 12... a shame... being in the center it loses a lot of options.

Schönes Ambiente als Teil des Zwingers. Freundliches und zuvorkommendes Personal. Wir haben den Salat gegessen, einmal mit Ziegenkäse und einmal mit geräucherter Entenbrust. Es hat uns sehr gut geschmeckt.

It's a shame, we've been here 6-8 times and always satisfied. But unfortunately this time it wasn't good. The food was mediocre, the service was subpar. The two young ladies didn't have much to do with the 12 or so guests. We didn't manage to get another drink order in 10 minutes and D to ask about the crayfish in the fish soup, which could not be found. Not again

I love good food!🔥🤍 I love tasting creative, delicious cuisine and ingredients🤭 and this was a hit! Last weekend we went to the restaurant here and it was so delicious. The menu was like a little poem for me🫶🏼 Everything was very well and harmoniously coordinated, we were able to taste excellent and high-quality ingredients/spices and the service was very attentive and helpful! We ate three courses 😊

Wonderful ambience, very delicious food with regional ingredients and pleasant service. Definitely recommended when visiting Dresden.

Unfortunately there was a very loud and heavily drunk group present. The spatial structure cannot buffer this, no noise protection. But perhaps also a note in advance to booking groups about what type of restaurant this is, definitely not a pub. But I will still come back.

A wonderful introduction to our opera evening. The food (trout fillet and boiled beef) was delicious and so was the recommended wine. Service very nice and accommodating. We'll definitely be back!

Delicious little gourmet restaurant. We had the gnocchi with mushroom sauce and the chicory quiche. As said, it was excellent!! The restaurant is located to the right of the museum, and in fact it is squarely inside the historical monument, without being part of the museum. The exterior is very inviting. That’s why we entered in the first place. The interior is good, but the decor a little too modern for me. You absolutely have to go if you have the chance.

Zoals elke grootstad tegenwoordig is ook het centrum van Dresden wat eetgelegenheden betreft de ene tourist trap na de andere en een opeenhoping van kebab en friet zaken tot zelfs op tramhaltes aan toe. Dan is dit restaurant een verademing. Mooie centrale plek, heel vriendelijke en vlotte bediening en vooral heel goed eten. Prima vissoep en heel goede zalmforelfilet. Uitstekende weißburgunder erbij en prijs ook nog heel schappelijk. Aanrader dus.

We have often been guests when we have been to the Semperoper. Unfortunately, service and food have deteriorated. There is also no special offer for visitors to the opera, which is due to the immediate proximity.

We went for coffee in the afternoon with a piece of cake each. The service was very nice. The Dresdner Eierschecke was the best.

Anyone who considers themselves part of the “intellectual upper class” may feel comfortable. Everyone else shouldn't mind suspicious looks and laughter from "regulars" and staff. A very uncomfortable climate! Already at the entrance we were evaluated by two guests and found unsatisfactory. Even if a self-proclaimed "café" only has four pieces of cake on offer on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m., you should take the cake board off the counter and think about the name café again, as a middle-class Dresdener you have different expectations. Prosecco bottles were carried in abundance.

Unfortunately we weren't that enthusiastic and had to wait a long time even though there wasn't that much going on! Coffee wasn't tasty either and the cake was average. The cake came before the coffee. The staff is friendly but unprofessional! So not recommended!

It's our favorite restaurant. Food and service great as always. But yesterday it was clearly too loud in the restaurant. You couldn't have a proper conversation. Too bad. Maybe it will be better next time.

We had tickets for the Semperoper and wanted something for dinner beforehand. The restaurant is relatively small (so make a reservation in advance), but very nicely decorated. The food was very tasty and, despite the good location, the price was reasonable. The service was very good! Very quick and attentive and adjusted to the guests. All in all a good recommendation.

When the weather is nice and in this historic setting - nothing more is possible! The food was great and the drinks were delicious.

The collection is impressive, extensive. It takes enough time and energy to reserve for the old masters. Reconstruction is in full swing and the entire courtyard is unfortunately inaccessible.

We had tickets for the Semper Opera and wanted to go out to eat first. It is definitely recommended to place a table order in advance! A great atmosphere with a view of the opera... it wasn't the last time we were in this restaurant! The dishes were excellent in taste and pleasing to the eye.

I can't say much about the food, as we were sent to one table by one waitress and then sent straight away again by the next. Communication is a key skill - thank you.

I don't like burgers, but the burger I had here was really delicious. The bread is soft and the patties inside are the best. It tastes like you have to like burgers. I ate well.

The Alte Meister Restaurant is beautifully located at the Zwinger and very central. The wooden tables require care. Unfortunately, the food was not entirely to our satisfaction. Both swordfish and chicken were overcooked and therefore hard. The fish was also no longer completely fresh. The chanterelle quiche was good. The cooked vegetables and salad were also good. For the price you would expect a better quality of the main courses. The service is very nice and prompt.

The older lady who works here with very short hair and glasses was exceptionally rude and uncaring, and €7 for water that you cannot take with you is insane.

To be honest, the rhubarb spritzer tasted pretty weak. You can also save yourself the toilet decoration. I found this particularly inappropriate, especially in a place like this. After me came a lady who first went into the men's toilet, visibly confused. If the sexist background wasn't enough to make you rethink the design, then at least it's at the point where it obviously leads to confusion.

The service is not very friendly, it seems that the foreigners bother...The food is average and somewhat expensive. The space is really nice. I would stop for coffee but not for lunch.

Top! We were only in Dresden for 3 days and wanted to have a nice meal on the last evening. Goal achieved. Very hospitable, wonderful food. The service knows how to sell without being annoying and you feel right at home. On and on. The next visit to Dresden will definitely come and then we will come back to you.

Fast-paced, always crowded place, in the heart of Dresden, in a fabulous environment. The prices are steep, but that's natural in a place like this. The servers are nice and it's in a really good place.

Ich war mit meiner Familie in diesem Restaurant, um die Konfirmation eines angehörigen zu feiern, und es wurde, dank des tollen Services und Essens zu einem Fest, an welches man sich noch lange erinnern wird. Immerzu war das Personal zur Stelle und hat einem jeden Wunsch von den Lippen abgelesen. Das Essen war außerdem sehr gut und wurde in kürzester Zeit frisch zubereitet . Im Allgemeinen war das Ambiente sehr gemütlich, und es war schön, den Tollen Raum, in dem man gespeist hat, anzuschauen. Auf den Toiletten wurde man immer zum Lachen gebracht, und es war einem möglich, sich die Toiletten je nach seinem Verhalten auszusuchen.

Slightly hidden cafe at the Zwinger. We spent our last Dresden evening there and everything was perfect. Sitting outside with a view of the Semperoper - perfect. Fine dishes with selected ingredients - perfect. There is also Saxon wine - perfect.

The positive first: The restaurant is beautifully located between the Semperoper and the Zwinger, so it's great for dinner before visiting the opera. However, it seemed difficult to sit down at the not entirely clean tables in your evening clothes. Frayed napkins are not a problem, but they also show that expectations and reality do not match. The food was okay, but the price-performance ratio wasn't right at all. We're happy to pay a reasonable price for good food, but here the quality was at a restaurant level, which isn't a problem, but if the portion size and the price are more like a star restaurant, it doesn't go together at all. The service was subpar: from a waiter who was nice, but constantly tried to talk you into something (from an aperitif, to a bottle of wine, even though you only wanted a glass,..., just annoying), to forgotten starters , Main courses that came 2 minutes after the starter would be rejected and then later served very cold to lukewarm beer and cold espresso. It was also very unpleasant that unoccupied tables were cleared away and chairs were put up, even though people were still eating next to them, or that waiters clearly visibly moved into the smoking corner and were not approachable. In any case, we will look for another restaurant before our next visit to the opera. The restaurant is a tourist rip-off, they usually only come once, but there are good alternatives for locals. PS: I can't recommend any of the dishes listed below because none of them were on the menu.

Very nicely located between the Zwinger and the Semperoper, but that was all the positives. Drinks arrive with a little delay, then a break and suddenly the appetizer. Unfortunately, followed 2 minutes later by the main course. Main course returned, logical. Ordered again after 10 minutes and lo and behold, it had now gone cold. But it went great with the lukewarm beer from the bottle. The matjes we ordered was bottom drawer and you can get better quality at every chip shop. Unfortunately nothing at all, apart from a salad without dressing. So kitchen & service & demands on yourself: zero stars. Service is tried hard, but not capable enough. No more words are needed here, let yourself be surprised and be tolerant. The ambience is getting old, so please don't put your white shirt on the ratty beer table set. At the end comes the surprise: 4-star prices.

Magical. We had linguine, chocolate mousse, tart and an entertaining, friendly and funny employee. And all of this in a very nice atmosphere. It was fun and a real pleasure.

This was the worst Caesar salad we have ever eaten and you had to pay extra for the baguette bread and it was also completely dry. We cannot recommend the restaurant.

The food was good as always, but service has deteriorated significantly, you used to be greeted better and warmly, now you have to reorder what was forgotten. Not worthy at the price. The worst thing was that the changed opening times were not communicated, then suddenly there was a real eviction with reproach. We ended up feeling out of place. For now they won't come anymore, they'll have to live off walk-in customers...

Everything is right here: historical space and beautiful outdoor spaces, a small but fine menu with exquisite dishes, good coffee and, last but not least, the sophisticated and subtle background music.

Impressive ambience and a pleasant atmosphere. Directly at the Dresden Zwinger. We were only able to have one drink (unfortunately we had already eaten dinner). In the best sunny weather. We will definitely want to eat there next time we visit Dresden.

When I tried to order iced coffee here, I spoke to a female waiter in English, but she pretended not to understand me. There was no menu inside so I asked if I could see the menu and he got angry saying it was on the sign outside. This place seems to have a lot of discrimination against Asians, so be careful. I felt so offended that I wanted an apology from the female employee. If you remember something after reading this article, reflect on it. Because of you, I developed prejudice against Germans.

The selection of dishes is diverse and there is something to suit every taste. I was particularly impressed by the quality of the ingredients and the presentation of the dishes. The service also deserves high praise. The staff is extremely friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. They were always there to answer my questions and make sure we weren't missing anything. The service was quick and efficient without being intrusive. All in all, my visit was an absolute pleasure. The restaurant offers first-class cuisine, warm service and a pleasant atmosphere. I highly recommend it and will definitely come back.

Wir waren sehr erfreut von dem hilfsbereiten Service, der uns mit Freundlichkeit entgegen kam. Auf deren Empfehlung habe ich mir den gebackener Ziegenkäse bestellt und ich war einfach nur begeistert. Viele verschiedene Komponenten haben das perfekte Abendessen ergeben. Auch der Limoncello Spritz, welchen ich mir auf Empfehlung des Personals bestellt habe, war einfach nur lecker.
