A traditional, home-style restaurant with friendly service.

We had a very good meal. There were interesting dishes, such as a wheelbarrow of manure. Good grilled dishes.

Last night, four of us ate at the "Gasthaus Alt Ems." It was a bit cramped, and the parking situation is rather limited. While there are parking spaces, it becomes a problem when the restaurant is busy. The staff is friendly and attentive, and the place is clean from the entrance to the restrooms. Most importantly, the food was delicious. There was plenty of it, and it was absolutely scrumptious. If I hadn't been so full after the first course, I would have ordered another. The "cart full of manure" was truly exceptional, incredibly tasty, and everything was perfect, including the dessert with hot raspberries. Making a reservation is recommended.

What a shame about the delicious pizza, we won't be going there again. Here, the customer isn't king, the server is! This arrogant woman might even be the owner, but whatever—she really does seem annoyed and was noticeably grumpy several times. Absolutely no enthusiasm and VERY idiosyncratic, just unacceptable! The 3 stars are only for the truly excellent pizza!!! It's regrettable that one person ruins everything, ...other restaurants are happy...

A house with good food and flair.

We were there for lunch. Everything was very good. The food was freshly prepared and tasted delicious. The price was reasonable for the quality of the food. They clearly put a lot of care into their work. From the ambiance to the service, we felt very comfortable.

I'm from Bad Hönningen. Superb food, homemade, of course, and everything fresh. Affordable and I'd love to go back. It's rare to find something like this.

We were in Bad Ems for a short visit and stumbled upon this lovely inn. The food was delicious, top quality, and great value for money. We would gladly return here anytime.

The food was average, home-style, but absolutely nothing special. The "house recommendation" soup was more of a small sip – it could just as easily have passed for a welcome drink from the kitchen. It tasted okay, but it wasn't even clear what it was supposed to be. This restaurant is completely unsuitable for vegetarians. The only meatless option was a spaetzle pan drenched in cheese. Substitutions are possible, but come with an extra charge – rude and unfriendly to customers. The decor is an incongruous 90s style mix that seems nostalgic at best, and simply outdated at worst. Positive: The young temporary staff were friendly and helpful. Negative: The tattooed lady behind the counter, with her grim expression and lack of critical thinking, was the low point of the visit – rude, unwelcoming, and definitely a reason never to return here. Conclusion: Food okay, service sometimes catastrophic – once is enough

Well, what can I say... You come to Bad Ems and go to the thermal baths. Then you want something to eat and discover the "Alt Ems" restaurant. By the way, there isn't much choice other than tons of kebab shops, and that on a Wednesday. The restaurant was busy, which might be a reason given what I said before. Well, you walk in and there was a free table where we could sit. The table was quickly cleaned and then we were seated. A young, very inexperienced waitress then asked for drinks. We'd like a Coke Zero and a Russ. Well, not everyone has to know Russ, but you can still expect a certain amount of leeway if the guest asks for it. After all, it's a wheat shandy. Then, since a Russ wasn't available, a shandy was ordered. Up until this point, we didn't have the menu. The drinks (a Coke Zero and a wheat beer... no words) arrived?!? and we had to ask for the menu. Why???? After we had chosen two set meals and the young waitress took them down, we requested a change to a dish called "Filettopfchen mit Spätzle" (fillet pot with spaetzle), requesting fries instead of spaetzle. The young waitress told us that this change would incur an additional charge of €1 because the chef had to adjust the dish. ???? Excuse me? Honestly, I've NEVER encountered such nonsense since I started reviewing here. The salad arrived, and shortly after, another, more experienced waitress came along, and she told me that the chef had the spaetzle under the meat; he'd forgotten that fries had been ordered with it. Are you serious??? Wanting to charge €1 to change my order and then not follow through!!! What's wrong? We left it at that and took it as is. Well, what can I say? So, the food was good. You can tell it's freshly prepared, but the taste didn't blow me away. The fries were a touch too hard and there was old grease. My wife was quite satisfied. The service still has room for improvement. If the responsible operators read this, do yourselves a favor and train the young staff on the basics. And if I were a server, I wouldn't do the job if it was written all over my face: "I'm not in the mood right now." A €0.90 tip isn't much, but it's almost too much if you're not smart and on the ball. Then I'll give up to €10, and that's not uncommon. I would take the young staff by the hand and show them how to get tips, using simple means. That alone would be a friendly smile... even if the customer seems stupid. The ambiance was okay. Okay, enough of the criticism. You can eat there without any problems.

We arrived for dinner at 12:45 p.m. There were only three dishes to choose from at lunchtime. The only one we liked was already sold out, and that was before 1 p.m.! Unfortunately, the very friendly service was also gone, but that didn't help us much, so we went to a competitor, where we had a good meal.

Totally surprised: affordable, delicious, friendly, competent service. We'll be regular customers there now, even for parties!

We ate here twice for Easter on a short vacation in Bad Ems. Despite the full house, the service was very attentive, friendly and quick. The food was plentiful and tasted excellent. The atmosphere is modern and appealing. The only thing that struck me as unpleasant was the strong smell of cigarettes on the way to the toilets. Parking was also a bit difficult, but that seems to be a general problem in Bad Ems. But those were just small things, otherwise highly recommended.

Simply fantastic! We ate at Alt Ems today and were absolutely thrilled – my cordon bleu was outstanding: crispy, juicy, and perfectly seasoned. The fried potatoes that accompanied it were simply a dream – golden brown, crispy, and superbly seasoned. My wife had a fresh, lovingly prepared salad and was also very pleased. The waitress was also perfect – friendly, attentive, and warm. You can tell that the work here is done with real passion – both in the kitchen and in the service. A huge compliment to the entire team – we'll definitely be back!

Einfach fantastisch! Wir haben heute im Alt Ems gegessen und sind total begeistert – mein Cordon Bleu war hervorragend: knusprig, saftig und perfekt abgeschmeckt. Die Bratkartoffeln dazu waren einfach ein Traum – goldbraun, knusprig und super gewürzt. Meine Frau hatte einen frischen, liebevoll angerichteten Salat und war ebenfalls sehr zufrieden. Die Dame vom Service war ebenfalls perfekt – freundlich, aufmerksam und herzlich. Man merkt, dass hier mit echter Leidenschaft gearbeitet wird – sowohl in der Küche als auch im Service. Ein großes Kompliment an das gesamte Team – wir kommen definitiv wieder!

We were guests at a celebration. The atmosphere is nice, rustic in style and definitely has the charm of an old inn. As a starter there was beef broth with marrow dumplings. The marrow dumplings tasted good. The soup was too strong for my taste. The main course was a Jägerschnitzel. The schnitzel was okay, the sauce too. The fries were ok. Overall OK, but nothing special. The salad was ok too. The dessert with a variation was good and overall the best meal. The service was friendly and tried hard, but overall it seemed a bit more chaotic, some orders didn't arrive correctly (wrong side dishes) or were actually canceled. Overall it was tasty but overall it wasn't completely convincing. Therefore 3 stars are appropriate.

Picked up herring to take away today. I have to say it looks and tastes very good!

All in all it was pretty good. The portion was sufficient for normal eaters (Jägerschnitzel) but there was a little bit of sauce and there could have been a few more fries. Very nice service. There is an area on the left that looks very cozy and on the right it looks more "rustic".

Delicious food, rustic atmosphere

Went to the restaurant today without a reservation and received a friendly welcome. Since we were there with a dog, they looked for a nice place where our dog could lie in peace. We had the “Cart full of crap” and the “Spagetti Scampi” and we can only recommend both dishes. The service is top and there is nothing to complain about when it comes to the prices. We will definitely come back!

Very cool welcome. Pork loin steak mostly bloody, almost raw. Rubbery bacon beans from the freezer. We had to ask for compensation. Luckily the dish was taken out of the bill.

Had dinner in Alt Ems with a small group in the evening. We had reserved in advance, which was good as it was quite busy. Because every last Friday of the month there is a schnitzel party there. There are over ten different dishes with schnitzel. We were warmly welcomed and shown to our table. We were asked quite quickly about our drink requests. It took a good hour for the food to arrive. However, the food ordered from the next table came to ours. This was then corrected immediately, but it can happen. Everyone at our table was thrilled with the taste of the food. No matter whether it's a schnitzel variation or a salad. The ambience is completely fine, not too crowded. The volume was extremely high because it was really well attended. Prices are completely okay. Will definitely come back.

I am often in this restaurant. Today we ordered and picked up as part of the schnitzel drive. I don't know how the team and the chef do it, but everything we ate at home was simply great. A tradesman from Ems would say: world class! Fries are super crispy and the schnitzel is simply fabulous! For the format “My Local, Your Local” I would give it a 15 out of 10! Gladly again!

Good German restaurant. We were there early, so the food was quick. We only had to wait a little longer to pay because the very nice waitress was too busy. Table reservation recommended. The food was good and the portions were normal. Everything was within reasonable price. Only the food quickly got cold on the plate.

A very cozy restaurant, unfortunately all of our food was too salty. Unfortunately the steaks were not medium but rather rare. We ate it because we were very hungry and would have said something if it had been fried again.

We rented a hall for a private celebration and Alt Ems organized our celebration with a very good buffet and very good service. We were very satisfied and recommend this restaurant. 👍

We ate here twice with friends on the recommendation of our landlady. Everything was very tasty and delicious. Rarely have meat fried so perfectly. But all the dishes our group received were very 😋 The service was also great. Friendly, competent and on the ball, something you don't find everywhere anymore. Can't say much about it - we were at the door with 8 guests at 5 p.m. and unfortunately it wasn't open - it's a shame, no information on the notice board - nothing ;-(

Unfortunately we parked our bikes incorrectly (backyard). The request to park correctly came promptly and extremely unfriendly. We decided not to eat in this restaurant because no one wants to be served in such an unfriendly way.

I celebrated my 80th birthday at the Alt Ems inn with about 40 people. All invited guests were very impressed by the ambience and the absolutely excellent food. I believe that many of the invited guests will visit the inn again.

Hello everyone, Food itself is great, as long as you're a meat eater. For veggies or vaganies there is almost nothing except salad. It's a shame in 2024 I expect more than in 1999. Nice ambience, good service!

We celebrated our baptism and wedding in Alt Ems and were thrilled every time. The small banquet room is ideal for smaller family celebrations and the large banquet hall served as the location for our wedding celebration. The food was very tasty and beautifully prepared, the service was super friendly and on point. Thank you very much for the two unforgettable celebrations we were able to enjoy with you. We also highly recommend a la carte dishes in the evening shop, especially the schnitzel. Update 8.3.24: Yesterday we had delicious food again and it was still just as delicious as described before. The dining room has been modernized, there are new dishes and all the employees are still very friendly. As always, we had a lovely evening.

The restaurant was recommended to me by word of mouth and I can only recommend it. From the service to the food, everything was like that as you wish. In short, the price/performance ratio is very good. We will be back.

We wanted to have a delicious meal 45 minutes before lunch. Not a nice atmosphere. To our surprise there was only one meal. Chicken fricasa...and that was it. According to the website and menu, we had a varied meal available. I have never experienced anything like this. The intermezzo ended immediately. So I can't recommend this restaurant at all.
